
Verlon Ray VanNatta, age 77, of Maywood, Nebraska passed away on June 7, 2021 at his home in Maywood. He was born on April 26, 1944 in Curtis, Nebraska and was the third son of Gerald Lane and Bertha (Effenbeck) Vannatta.
Verlon was named after a fallen soldier that his mom read about in the newspaper during WWII. He attended country school and graduated from Maywood High School with the Class of 1963. Verlon farmed for several years, raised hogs and worked for several neighbors, including Bernie Zwickle and Dr. Connell, throughout the years. After his father passed, he stayed home to care for his mother. He was a member and former deacon at St. John's Lutheran Church in Curtis. Verlon loved to fish, hunt, trap and his dog, Bear.
Survivors include his brother, Gerald (Elizabeth) VanNatta of North Platte, Nebraska; nephew, Lane (Lindsay) VanNatta of Gothenburg, Nebraska; niece, Jennifer (Jason) Hawkins of Cripple Creek, Arizona; aunt, Lila Effenbeck of North Platte, Nebraska; six great nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Bertha; and his brother, Robert.
Memorials in Verlon's name are suggested to Nebraska Game & Parks for Kids Fishing Day.

Services will be on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Curtis, Nebraska with Pastor David Keating officiating. Lunch will follow the service at the church. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at the North Platte Cemetery in North Platte, Nebraska.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte, Nebraska, who is in charge of arrangements.
