2 North Platte men accused of theft, possessing stolen firearm

Two North Platte men are in jail, accused of breaking into vehicles as well as weapons charges

According to North Platte police, on December 2 at 12:32 a.m., officers were called to the 500 Block of North Pacific Street on the report of subjects breaking into vehicles.

Police say upon arrival, Officers observed a vehicle leaving the area. Additionally, Officers observed that the occupants in the vehicle matched the description of the suspects given by witnesses.

Police say officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and, while the traffic stop was being initiated, officers observed a passenger discarding items out of the window.

According to police, officers made contact with multiple subjects, including 20-year-old Emilio Vera and 18-year-old Lukas Hartmann.

Police say officers observed a large amount of property in the vehicle, as well as evidence of broken glass inside the vehicle and on the occupants.

During the investigation, police say officers were able to establish probable cause and Vera and Hartmann were placed under arrest.

Officers located a stolen firearm in the vehicle among the stolen property that was recovered.

Hartmann was incarcerated at the Lincoln County Detention Center on suspicion of theft, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, and possession of a stolen firearm.

Vera was incarcerated on suspicion of possession of a stolen firearm, theft, and tampering with physical evidence.
