One Arrested Following Pursuit in Lincoln County

North Platte, Neb.  —  Troopers, with assistance from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and North Platte Police Department, arrested one subject following pursuit in Lincoln County.

Tuesday afternoon, the Nebraska State Patrol was notified of a reckless driver traveling westbound on Interstate 80. At approximately 4 p.m., a trooper observed a silver 2006 Corvette matching this description traveling 117 miles per hour near mile marker 188. The trooper attempted to perform a traffic stop, but the driver refused to yield and fled. The trooper initiated a pursuit.

During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle reached speeds of 140 miles per hour and passed vehicles on the shoulder. Due to traffic, the trooper lost visual on the vehicle and requested assistance from nearby troopers. Troopers successfully deployed stop sticks near mile markers 181 and 180 to slow the vehicle. The vehicle exited I-80 at the 177 westbound exit. The driver attempted to flee into the city of North Platte but was blocked from doing so.

Troopers, with assistance from Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the North Platte Police Department, apprehended the driver and placed him under arrest. During the interaction troopers detected an odor of alcohol.

The driver, Mason Honeyman, 29-years-old, was lodged in Lincoln County Jail for driving under the influence 0.15+ second offense, willful reckless driving, operating a vehicle to avoid arrest, driving during revocation second offense and other traffic violations.
