SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) - The Scottsbluff airport director has been taken off paid administrative leave and put back to work.

The Scotts Bluff County Airport Authority Board voted Wednesday to reinstate Raul Aguallo. He'd been put on leave in January after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/5912446abe123964db750c39c02a64ed" target="_blank">allegations</a>&nbsp;were made to the board. They were turned over to the Nebraska State Patrol for an investigation.

"I've been working in airports for the past 18 years, so I'm happy to be back to work," Aguallo said after the meeting adjourned. "I'm glad the board had faith in me, because the investigation found no wrongdoing on my part."

His reinstatement includes a 60-day probation to address some policy changes.

"I've learned you have to have paperwork for everything," Aguallo said. "You have to track everything because there will also be people who misinterpret things."

Over the weekend we adjusted our operating hours to help make it easier for associates to stock and perform enhanced cleaning and sanitizing. We’re pleased with the results we are seeing and will take additional steps beginning Thursday, March 19.

I think every one of us has had to adjust our daily routines in some way, and it’s likely that could continue. We are paying very close attention to our stores and communities and will continue making the necessary changes to help make sure our associates are taken care of and that our customers can get what they need.  <li>Walmart U.S. stores will adjust operating hours to 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Stores that open later than 7 a.m. will continue their regular starting hours. This will further help associates restock the shelves for customers while continuing to clean and sanitize the store. While the store hours change for customers, our associates will continue to have access to their regular scheduled shifts and full hours.</li>

 <li>We know our older customers could be more vulnerable to the coronavirus and to better support them, Walmart is offering special shopping hours. From March 24 through April 28, Walmart stores will host an hour-long senior shopping event every Tuesday for customers aged 60 and older. This will start one hour before the store opens. Our Pharmacies and Vision Centers will also be open during this time.</li>

 <li>We know communities are counting on us more than ever and we are determined to serve the broadest number of customers and ensure they have access to the key items they are looking for. Our stores will have limits for customers in certain categories including paper products, milk, eggs, cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, water, diapers, wipes, formula and baby food.</li>

Walmart announces new reduced hours, item limitations and more

LINCOLN, Neb. – In a proactive effort to prevent the potential for the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has temporarily closed public access to its Lincoln headquarters until further notice.

Game and Parks’ district offices in North Platte, Norfolk and Alliance, and service centers in Kearney and Bassett will temporarily close Friday, March 20 until further notice. The agency’s Omaha service center has been closed to the public since March 16.

All Game and Parks visitor centers and park offices will temporarily close to the public on Monday, March 23. This closure will include the Peter Kiewit Lodge at Mahoney State Park and the Fort Robinson State Park Lodge. Guests with reservations for lodge rooms at those facilities will be contacted by park personnel to discuss rescheduling or refund options. The closure of the Kiewit Lodge also will include the restaurant and dining room.

Park grounds remain open for day use, and park cabins and campgrounds remain open. Guests with reservations are encouraged to contact the park offices for payment and check-in instructions. Game and Parks temporarily closing public access to more facilities in response to virus

March 18, 2020 – The&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nsea.org/" target="_blank">Nebraska State Education Association</a>&nbsp;(NSEA) today announced it will offer educational programming for elementary and secondary students that will be available free to all Nebraska children beginning Monday, March 23.&nbsp; NSEA is partnering with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.newschannelnebraska.com/" target="_blank">News Channel Nebraska</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lps.org/" target="_blank">Lincoln Public Schools</a>&nbsp;on the project, with financial support from the National Education Association.

NSEA President Jenni Benson said four hours of daily live programming will be available through nearly every video and cable TV service, as well as online or via mobile app from Flood Communications News Channel Nebraska.

“Our 28,000 members care deeply about their students and want them to continue their learning during these school closures,” said Benson. “We are pleased to partner with News Channel Nebraska and Lincoln Public Schools to make this educational programming available statewide.”

Many Nebraska schools are closed due to the Novel Coronavirus pandemic. More school districts are expected to close in the coming weeks.

“During this time of unprecedented challenge to maintain educational continuity for the students of our city and state, I am most appreciative of the leadership of NSEA to organize a delivery system that will reach many of our students,” said Dr. Steve Joel, Lincoln Public Schools superintendent.

“We are working with our members to coordinate this educational programming,” said Maddie Fennell, NSEA executive director. “From readalouds to learning games to instructional lessons with teachers, we will work to support our students and their families as we navigate this pandemic together.”

Benson said that educational programming for elementary students will air from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and for secondary students from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“As our state goes through this unprecedented public health challenge, I want Nebraskans to know that we will have plenty of food available,” said Governor Ricketts.&nbsp; “The U.S. has the most efficient supply chain of food in the world, and it’s operating effectively.&nbsp; Grocery stores are open, and restaurants will continue to serve Nebraskans throughout the pandemic with takeout and drive-thru options.”

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners called an emergency meeting to address the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak and its impact on public access to county facilities.

After lengthy discussions between the commissioners and elected county officials, the board voted unanimously to close all county facilities to the public until further notice. Employees will still report to work and perform their regular duties at this time. Some discretion was given to elected officials as far as handling their employees.

The board also discussed the regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, March 23, and will explore digital options to allow the public to view the meeting.

Staying mentally strong during cornavirus outbreak

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-The first confirmed travel-related case of COVID-19 coronavirus in Lincoln County is an employee of the Union Pacific Railroad.

Late Tuesday night, we learned that Lincoln County had its first confirmed case of the disease. At a news conference Wednesday morning, health officials gave few details of the case, which was still in the investigative stage. Health officials did say the man was in his 50's and had been on a cruise and had traveled in California.

We now know that the man is an employee of Bailey Yard in North Platte.

Raquel Espinoza, director of corporate communications and media relations for the railroad said in an email, "Despite implementing numerous measures to prevent COVID-19 infections, one employee at Bailey Yard tested positive for the virus."

Health officials have not issued any advisories for other Union Pacific employees at the time this story was published.

The man has been in self-isolation since self-reporting to the West Central District Health Department on March 14.

Sources tell us several other Union Pacific employees and their family members have been tested. The results of those tests have not been reported to the media by West Central District Health Department.&nbsp;

LINCOLN, Neb.-In response to the ongoing outbreak of COVID-19 in Nebraska, the State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is taking a number of steps to help flatten the curve. Effective immediately, the DMV will no longer be conducting drive tests statewide until further notice. Steps to introduce social distancing will be implemented at State DMV offices, limiting the number of individuals able to congregate in the lobby. While the measures introduced will vary by office, they may include such actions as limiting the number of customers allowed inside the office, or asking customers to wait outside or in their vehicle.

“We understand that these measures may seem inconvenient, or lead to longer wait times, but any steps we can take to flatten the curve are essential to keeping our residents safe,” said Rhonda Lahm, Director of the Department of Motor Vehicles. “Most of our customers are able to complete their transactions online. I would urge our customers to visit our website and take advantage of the online services available.”

Following the closure of County Treasurer offices in Lancaster County, no in-person DMV services will be available at these locations. Legislative changes, which came into effect in September 2019, mean the majority of customers are able to renew their license online twice before visiting a DMV office.

“We are working to balance the delivery of services with keeping our examiners and customers safe,” said Sara O’Rourke, Administrator of the Driver Licensing Services Division. “I ask for our customers’ patience and understanding as we implement these measures. We will continue to communicate with our customers through all media channels as the situation continues to unfold.”

Nebraska DMV helps 'flatten the curve'

LINCOLN –&nbsp;Additional cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been reported to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

One case is a man in his 30s who is a Sarpy County resident. He had contact with another case who was a business traveler from Virginia who was in the metro area. The Sarpy County resident is self-isolating at home. All local health departments involved have initiated close contact investigations to identify people who came into close contact to help prevent further spread. All identified close contacts will self-quarantine and be actively monitored twice daily by public health officials for fever and respiratory symptoms.

The COVID-19 pandemic will be a challenge to the USA unlike any we have experienced in our lifetime.&nbsp;For the last several weeks, I have been involved in multiple meetings each day where I get to hear the thoughts of experts in the field of pandemics, specifically about this pandemic, and what we need to do.

If anyone hears from family or friends who think this is “no big deal,” or that the USA’s response has been excessive, please know that they are very wrong. I’m sure you have all read about the many reasons that this is NOT “just like flu.” The numbers of infected, worldwide and in the USA, are extreme underestimates (because many infected have not been tested). The best metric to use, right now, is talking with hospital workers in the hotbeds, and asking them what their situation is.

I have been in communication with a friend who is a critical care physician from the Lombardy region of Italy. The health care workers there are living in a nightmare, having to decide who lives and who dies from lack of oxygen because their health care system is overwhelmed.

In the USA, we have three pathways for COVID-19:

You have all probably seen the concept of “flatten the curve.” If we fail to flatten the curve, and we fail to eliminate the portion of yellow above that line, there will be dire consequences:

In the SARS-1 outbreak, critical care doctors and nurses in Asia and Canada acquired life-long PTSD from watching patients gasp for air and die because they did not have enough ventilators. SARS-1 was nothing compared to COVID-19. If we do not flatten the curve, Rachel, Bridget, and I will have to witness many of these types of deaths.

In the absence of a vaccine or an anti-viral in the immediate future, our best chance to avoid overwhelming our hospitals is non-pharmaceutical interventions. The two best ways to do that are (1) social distancing, and (2) excellent hygiene.

The best ways for you to achieve social distancing are pretty simple:

I’m not saying people should not go to work. Just don’t leave the house for anything unnecessary, and if you can work from home, do it.

Everyone on this email, besides Mom and Dad, are at low risk for severe disease if/when they contract COVID-19. While this is great, that is not the main point. When young, well people fail to do social distancing and hygiene, they pick up the virus and transmit it to older people who are at higher risk for critical illness or death. So everyone needs to stay home. Even young people.

Tell every person over 60, and every person with significant medical conditions, to avoid being around people. Please do not have your kids visit their grandparents if you can avoid it. FaceTime them.

Our nation is the strongest one in the world. We have been through other extreme challenges and succeeded many times before. We WILL return to normal life. Please take these measures now to flatten the curve, so that we can avoid catastrophe.

First travel-related case of COVID-19 confirmed in Lincoln County

LINCOLN –&nbsp;Today, Governor Pete Ricketts issued an executive order to permit the loosening of eligibility requirements for unemployment insurance benefits.&nbsp; In line with federal guidance, Governor Ricketts is allowing the Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) to waive the following requirements for claims filed between March 22 and May 2.&nbsp; This timeframe will be evaluated as the situation with COVID-19&nbsp; progresses.

·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Work Search -&nbsp;This change applies to all workers filing for unemployment.&nbsp; While many job search efforts are conducted online, waiving the requirement to search for work is in line with the social distancing practices that are needed to limit the spread of COVID-19 and potential exposure to the disease.&nbsp; The change will also accommodate those workers who are temporarily impacted by COVID-19, including those who are in an unpaid status due to a shutdown, quarantine, or because they are caring for a family member due to illness or a facility closure.&nbsp;

·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Unpaid Waiting Week&nbsp;-&nbsp;This change will make the first week of eligibility payable rather than an unpaid waiting week and will help all unemployment recipients get their payments sooner.

For the foreseeable future, we will all be working to combat coronavirus 2019, also known as COVID-19.&nbsp; As we work together to confront this pandemic, I want to reiterate simple reminders about how we stop it.

Use Good Hygiene:&nbsp;&nbsp;Everyone should be practicing disciplined hygiene.&nbsp; Here are several things you can do now:

·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Stay home if you are sick.

Seek Appropriate Help:&nbsp; If you or a member of your household display these symptoms, immediately self-isolate and call your healthcare provider for advice.&nbsp; Do not go to an emergency room or doctor’s office without calling ahead.&nbsp; Your doctor can assist with an initial screening to determine if you should be tested for COVID-19.&nbsp; Public health officials, health care providers, and private labs are working daily to increase nationwide capacity to test more people for COVID-19.&nbsp;

Practice Social Distancing:&nbsp; Given the heightened risk that exists for the elderly and most vulnerable, we’re asking people to stay at home and to use social distancing techniques to slow the spread of coronavirus and limit its extent.&nbsp; As of Tuesday, March 17th, the latest CDC guidance is to avoid social gatherings of more than 10 people.&nbsp; This includes events like funerals and weddings and people at bars and restaurants.&nbsp; Additionally, please do not visit nursing homes or long-term care facilities, and do not take your loved one out of the facility.&nbsp; We must keep them healthy and safe.&nbsp; We expect guidance to change as circumstances evolve.&nbsp; Please constantly monitor&nbsp;<a href="http://www.governor.nebraska.gov/" target="_blank">www.Governor.Nebraska.gov</a>&nbsp;for the latest information.

Prepare for Two-Week Quarantines:&nbsp; I have declared a statewide emergency due to coronavirus.&nbsp; It allows for the suspension of regulatory provisions of state law to aid the state’s response.&nbsp; Along with this action, I issued an executive order to wave certain hauling requirements for truckers delivering in-demand supplies, such as food products to grocery stores.&nbsp; Our supply chains are strong and secure, and Nebraskans can expect to see shelves re-stocked in relatively short order.&nbsp; America has the most efficient and effective supply chain in the world and it is working.&nbsp; Grocery stores will remain open.&nbsp; Don’t buy months and months of food. &nbsp;Have two weeks’ supply on hand, in case you need to self-quarantine, and then buy weekly to maintain that supply.

Governor's Weekly Column: Everyone can help stop coronavirus

LINCOLN&nbsp;– As Nebraskans are taking preventative measures against COVID-19, the Drinking Water division of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) would like to remind everyone that drinking water remains safe to use.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that COVID-19 has not been detected in drinking water, and that conventional water treatment methods of filtration and disinfection — which are in most municipal drinking water systems — should remove or inactivate the virus causing COVID-19.

“Common disinfection methods used in water and wastewater treatment are expected to be effective for inactivation of coronaviruses when executed properly,” said Sue Dempsey, administrator of the DHHS Drinking Water Division.

Dempsey advises water system operators to continue monitoring drinking water disinfection processes for systems with upstream wastewater impacts both during and after the outbreak for infectious coronaviruses.

Although drinking water from the tap is safe for public consumption, federal guidance also recommends that the public consider maintaining a supply of bottled water. If people are ill and have to isolate in their own homes, it is easiest to use bottled water rather than sanitizing water glasses that might be shared with the rest of the household.

LINCOLN&nbsp;– As Nebraskans are taking preventative measures against COVID-19, the Drinking Water division of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) would like to remind everyone that drinking water remains safe to use.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that COVID-19 has not been detected in drinking water, and that conventional water treatment methods of filtration and disinfection — which are in most municipal drinking water systems — should remove or inactivate the virus causing COVID-19.“Common disinfection methods used in water and wastewater treatment are expected to be effective for inactivation of coronaviruses when executed properly,” said Sue Dempsey, administrator of the DHHS Drinking Water Division.Dempsey advises water system operators to continue monitoring drinking water disinfection processes for systems with upstream wastewater impacts both during and after the outbreak for infectious coronaviruses.Although drinking water from the tap is safe for public consumption, federal guidance also recommends that the public consider maintaining a supply of bottled water. OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska residents needing to get to their dentist for teeth cleaning might be waiting a bit. The Nebraska Dental Association has recommended its dentists postpone any non-emergency dental care until after April 1 in an effort to slow the spread of a new coronavirus.

The organization said in a written statement Tuesday that dentists "have a role to play in 'flattening the curve' ... to follow sound, scientific public health advice to help limit infections and slow the spread of the virus," the Omaha World-Herald&nbsp;<a href="https://www.omaha.com/livewellnebraska/nebraska-dentists-postpone-nonemergency-care-until-april-because-of-coronavirus/article_4a039474-b1de-5f62-82fd-c9b11b1eef07.html" target="_blank">reported</a>.

David O'Doherty, executive director of the association, said the group made the decision during an emergency meeting Monday.

Those who think they need emergency dental care should call their dentist's office for more information.

The Dentists, which has four dental offices in the Omaha area, shifted to emergent care soon after the board's recommendation came, the group's private practice administrator, Jennifer Abshier, said.

"Pain, swelling, broken teeth will get seen. We're still here for patient care," Abshier said.
