North Platte, Neb. - The 2024 Miss Nebraska and Miss Nebraska's Teen were announced on Saturday as Raechel Warren of Omaha was crowned Miss Nebraska 2024 and Janae Harris of Omaha was crowned Miss Nebraska's Teen. 30 women competed the event which took place at North Platte High School.&nbsp;

For Warren, this is her 10th year in the Miss America program and says this is a dream come true after winning the title on Saturday night. She also wants to use this opportunity to represent Nebraska and promote her platform, "Encouraging youth to discover their passion and purpose by championing mentorship, encouraging community and creating opportunity for self-discovery."&nbsp;

Harris is preparing to start her senior year at Millard North where she is a member of the lacrosse team and is a participant in Millard North's STEM program, which allows students to take college courses. This was Harris' 3rd time ever competing in a pageant and it is a real honor to be crowned the 2024 Miss Nebraska's Teen.&nbsp;

(Audio) Meet the 2024 Miss Nebraska and Miss Nebraska's Teen!

The North Platte Police Department participated in the “And Then It Clicked”, high visibility, traffic enforcement campaign from May 20th 2024 to June 2nd, 2024.  Department wide, North Platte Police Officers had 263 traffic contacts. 

 Eighty-three drivers were issued citations.  Seventeen citations were issued for seatbelt violations.  Twenty-seven citations were issued for speeding violations, Eleven citations were issued for traffic control violations.  Two people were issued citations for reckless driving.  Eleven drivers were ticketed for operator’s license violations.  Six drivers were arrested for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol.  Four people were cited for possession of marijuana and approximately 55 grams of marijuana were seized.

North Platte, Ne - The Miss Rodeo Nebraska and Miss Teen Rodeo Nebraska competition begins Sunday at the Wild West Arena in North Platte. Nebraska is one of the only States that host their competition and pageant during a big rodeo event like the Buffalo Bill Rodeo at Nebraskaland Days according to 2010 Miss Rodeo Nebraska, Michelle Boeshart-Whitson. Whitson, who is the current MRN President says "we definetley set the bar, I think thats testimony to the amount of State Rodeo Queens that want to come to our pageant because they don't get a big stage from their own state."

She went on to say the the Miss Rodeo Nebraska Pageant "tries to replicate the Miss Rodeo America Pageant that all these girls will compete at if they win during the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas."

North Platte, Neb. - The Mid-Plains United Way will be making changes as the tractor pull will be pulled and will instead be a tractor show on June 18th during NebraskaLand Days. Akrs will be showing off tractors, Kona Ice will be on site and more.&nbsp;

&nbsp; North Platte, Neb. - The Miss Rodeo Nebraska Association is gearing up to kick off the 2024 Miss Rodeo Nebraska pageant which begins Sunday, June 9th and runs through Tuesday, June 12th. This year Miss Rodeo Nebraska is&nbsp;<a href="http://missrodeonebraska.org/" target="_blank">JoSee Saults</a>&nbsp;of Big Springs, Nebraska and Miss Teen Rodeo is&nbsp;<a href="http://missrodeonebraska.org/" target="_blank">Maci Cox</a>&nbsp;of North Platte.&nbsp; &nbsp;

This year, competing in the Miss Teen section includes Jaelyn Himmelberg of Blue Hill, NE, Maysen Merritt of NE and&nbsp;Sophia Schemper of Loomis. The Miss Nebraska contestants are Danielle Forster of Smithfield, NE, Ashlyn Mohling of Glenvil, NE and Brylee Thompson of Hershey.&nbsp;Too learn more about this year's contestants, check out their bios below.

Jaelyn Himmelberg is the 18-year-old daughter of Cassandra Himmelberg and John Himmelberg of Blue Hill, NE. She will be a freshman at Doane University in the fall majoring in biology with an emphasis on a Pre-Physician Assistant route. Jaelyn will continue her passion for dance at the collegiate level as a member of the Doane University Dance team. 

It is Jaelyn’s goal to return to rural Nebraska to practice as a Physician Assistant and serve the small Nebraska communities that have supported her.  Jaelyn also aspires to open a hippotherapy clinic to assist children and young adults with special needs, connecting her love of horses and her desire to help and serve others.

Maysen Merritt is a born and raised Nebraska cowgirl who loves to serve the Lord and everyone around her. She is the youngest daughter of Zach and Wendy Merritt. Maysen is the youngest generation living on her family’s ranch. 

 She is active in FFA and Quiz Bowl and loves to read in her spare time.  One of her favorite things is her horse Rosie, and they have competed in queen competitions, moved cows, went to many brandings, and cleared the arena at ranch rodeos.

Sophia Schemper is the 15-year-old of Jared and Dawn Schemper. She will be a sophomore at Loomis High School this fall, where she is active in volleyball, basketball, track, band, cheer, and FFA.  Sophia is an honor roll student and in the High Ability Learners program. 

 Outside of school, she is active in church youth group, 4-H, and Nebraska High School Rodeo, where she was a two-time National Finals qualifier in Junior High. When not busy with activities, she loves spending time on the lake with family.&nbsp;

Danielle Forster is the 24-year-old daughter of Kevin and Kim Forster of Smithfield, NE.  She is currently a second-year master’s student pursuing a degree in animal science with a specialization in extension and education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

 Alongside her studies, Danielle serves as the UNL Horse Judging Coach and actively participates in the Animal Science Graduate Student Association.  She is also involved in her hometown rodeo club, where she coordinates the Elwood Rodeo Queen Pageant. In her free time, Danielle enjoys reading, collecting records, and cherishing moments with family and friends.

Ashlyn Mohling is the 22-year-old daughter of Brett and Heather Mohling from Glenvil, NE. She was raised on her family’s farming and commercial cow-calf operation.  She also grew up riding and showing her horses through 4-H and other organizations in various disciplines. Her experiences within the equine industry are what inspired her to further her education in animal care.

  In 2022, she graduated from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture with an associate’s degree in veterinary technology. Since graduating, she has been practicing as a licensed veterinary technician at a mixed animal practice in south-central Nebraska.  When not working with animals, Ashlyn can be found baking, crafting, and spending time with her two cats, her friends, and her family.&nbsp;

Brylee Thompson is a 20-year-old from Hershey, Nebraska. She is a recent graduate from Mid Plains Community College in North Platte, where she achieved her business degree with an emphasis in entrepreneurship.  While at Mid Plains Community College, she was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and named November Business Student of the month. 

 Brylee’s goals are to work in the agricultural industry and own her own business that would allow her to travel and support the sport of rodeo.  Brylee’s life goal is to always spread kindness and lift others up.  She wants to be a person who focuses on the positive in every aspect of her life.&nbsp;

Dundy County Sheriff's Office Monthly Report - May 2024

For the calendar quarter beginning on&nbsp;October 1, 2024,&nbsp;the local sales and use tax rate changes will be:&nbsp;

There are no changes in county&nbsp;lodging tax&nbsp;rates for October 1, 2024.

As a reminder for the upcoming calendar quarter of July 1, 2024, there are no local sales and use tax rate changes or county lodging tax rate changes.

Per recent legislation (LB 1317, Section 81) changes were made to the&nbsp;state&nbsp;sales and use tax rate for&nbsp;Good Life District&nbsp;(GLD) transactions.&nbsp; Effective on&nbsp;July 1, 2024&nbsp;the&nbsp;state&nbsp;sales and use tax rate is 2.75% only on those transactions sourced to a GLD area that are also within the city boundaries. 

Transactions made within a GLD but that are OUTSIDE the boundaries of a city have a&nbsp;state&nbsp;rate of 5.5%. This currently only affects the GLD Nebraska Crossing Village District (GLD 802-802) which is located both outside and inside of Gretna’s city boundaries.&nbsp; The GLD Avenue One (GLD 801-801) is located entirely within Omaha, so this GLD has a&nbsp;state&nbsp;rate of 2.75%.&nbsp; 

Changes are being made to our sales and use tax returns for this change. &nbsp;The Sales Tax Rate Finder on our website will show these different rates on and after July 1, 2024.&nbsp;

 <li>Adams&nbsp;will impose a new 1% rate;</li><li>Grafton&nbsp;and&nbsp;Kenesaw&nbsp;will each impose a new 1.5% rate;</li><li>Lyons&nbsp;will increase its rate from 1.5% to 2%; and &nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Mullen&nbsp;and&nbsp;Nelson&nbsp;will each increase their rate from 1% to 1.5%.&nbsp;</li>
 </ul>There are no changes in county&nbsp;lodging tax&nbsp;rates for October 1, 2024.As a reminder for the upcoming calendar quarter of July 1, 2024, there are no local sales and use tax rate changes or county lodging tax rate changes.Per recent legislation (LB 1317, Section 81) changes were made to the&nbsp;state&nbsp;sales and use tax rate for&nbsp;Good Life District&nbsp;(GLD) transactions.&nbsp; Effective on&nbsp;July 1, 2024&nbsp;the&nbsp;state&nbsp;sales and use tax rate is 2.75% only on those transactions sourced to a GLD area that are also within the city boundaries. Transactions made within a GLD but that are OUTSIDE the boundaries of a city have a&nbsp;state&nbsp;rate of 5.5%. This currently only affects the GLD Nebraska Crossing Village District (GLD 802-802) which is located both outside and inside of Gretna’s city boundaries.&nbsp; The GLD Avenue One (GLD 801-801) is located entirely within Omaha, so this GLD has a&nbsp;state&nbsp;rate of 2.75%.&nbsp; Changes are being made to our sales and use tax returns for this change. &nbsp;The Sales Tax Rate Finder on our website will show these different rates on and after July 1, 2024.&nbsp;

(Audio) Agriculture on the Bricks event set for Saturday in North Platte 

&nbsp;North Platte, Neb. - The Miss Rodeo Nebraska Association is gearing up to kick off the 2024 Miss Rodeo Nebraska pageant which begins Sunday, June 9th and runs through Tuesday, June 12th. This year's competition will feature three teens, three misses and three judges. This year Miss Rodeo Nebraska is&nbsp;<a href="http://missrodeonebraska.org/" target="_blank">JoSee Saults</a>&nbsp;of Big Springs, Nebraska and Miss Teen Rodeo is&nbsp;<a href="http://missrodeonebraska.org/" target="_blank">Maci Cox</a>&nbsp;of North Platte.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Follow along with the POST throughout the next couple of days to learn more about the competitors and judges. This year judges welcomes Kristina Sigaty of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Codi Miller from southwestern North Dakota and&nbsp;Joni Heinisch of Nebraska. Kristina Sigaty is from Aberdeen, SD. She has been involved in the rodeo queen world since entering her first contest in 2003. Since then, she has been honored to represent South Dakota as the 2006 and 2007 SDHSRA Queen, Jr. Miss Rodeo South Dakota 2008, 2009 South Dakota 4-H Rodeo Ambassador, and Miss Rodeo South Dakota 2013, finishing in the Top 10 at Miss Rodeo America and earning the Wrangler Jacket Award and High Ticket Sales. 

Serving as Miss Rodeo South Dakota had a massive impact on her life and career trajectory, and she has remained involved as a board member for Miss Rodeo South Dakota, Inc. to continue to offer those opportunities to today’s cowgirls. Growing up on a family farm, Kristina has also remained heavily involved with agriculture as the merchandising/ origination manager at Frederick Farmers Elevator and market analyst with Fiebiger Consulting. 

She also serves as a board member for the Bear Creek Roughriders Saddle Club, producing their barrel racing series and coordinating a variety of clinics and programs for club members. In her spare time, she enjoys trail riding, knitting, embroidering, crocheting, reading, and spending time on the lake with her husband Brandon and daughter Kimber.

Codi Miller was born and raised on a small grain and cattle ranch in southwestern North Dakota. As a child, she attended a one-room schoolhouse and participated in 4-H for 10 years. Her pageant and modeling career started when she was 15 when she&nbsp;competed in the Bahamas at Miss Teen USA as the youngest contestant. She also competed in San Antonio, TX at Miss Collegiate America, plus 6 years in the Miss USA System.

In between beauty pageants, Codi followed in her mother's footsteps in the rodeo and rodeo queen world. She was the ND High School Rodeo Queen, 2-time State Champion in Pole Bending, and is now the State Director of the high school queens' contest.  Codi was Miss Rodeo North Dakota 2014, and placed Top 10 at Miss Rodeo America. She is currently the National Director of Miss Rodeo North Dakota Pageant Organization, where she has founded a new scholarship program.&nbsp;

Codi enjoys spending her time helping young women in their personal and professional goals. She is a new homeowner and enjoys decorating and remodeling her little home, as well as owning and operating a western upholstery business.  Codi believes her time in pageants and rodeo has helped her achieve career goals and building relationships all over the country. She hopes each woman her can see the benefits, win or lose!&nbsp;

Joni, originally from Nebraska, and now making her home in Florida, is a former Miss Rodeo Nebraska 2015. Her early years were spent on her family's working ranch in the Sandhills of Ericson, Nebraska, where she played an active role in raising Angus cattle and American Quarter Horses. In her free time, she loved being outdoors, engaging in activities like 4H, hunting, fishing and traveling to rodeos &amp; pageants.&nbsp;

Shortly after obtaining her nursing degree and working as a full-time nurse she met her husband, Ian&nbsp;Heinisch, a UCF Middleweight, and former All-American Wrestler. Shortly after marriage, her life journey took her to the Sunshine State, Florida. Today, Joni co-owns a functional medicine practice, treating patients all across the county. Her true passion lies in promoting health and wellness among individuals.

Even though she's currently immersed in the south Florida lifestyle, Joni's heart remains rooted in the charm of small-town agriculture, and the outdoor way of living, remaining as active as she can in her family's ranch in Nebraska. Together with her husband, she cherishes the beauty of Florida's outdoors, spending quality time exploring its natural wonders.

Joni's genuine interests include agriculture, preserving the traditions of family ranches, rodeo queen pageants, and advocating for the conversation of the outdoors. Through their ministry, she and Ian share the gospel message on a global scale, a testament to the significant impact of faith in their lives.

North Platte, Neb. - The North Platte city council held a regular meeting on June 4th and different agendas were discussed amongst the council. Topics included a high intensity drug trafficking area initiative, approving an interlocal fuel agreement between the city and council, adopting resolution development plan for Canteen Commons Apartments and more.&nbsp;

The Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska (BHECN) will be traveling across Nebraska&nbsp;this summer&nbsp;to discuss with providers the impact of $25.5 million in American Rescue&nbsp;Plan&nbsp;Act (ARPA) funds on behavioral health care in the state.

At the request of the Nebraska Legislature, BHECN distributed the funds in 2023 to address the state’s behavioral health workforce shortage and behavioral health issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.&nbsp;

BHECN, housed at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), used a comprehensive application and review process to allocate the funds to more than 100 projects around the state to help address key behavioral issues on various fronts.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.unmc.edu/bhecn/arpa/awardees.html" target="_blank">See a full list of BHECN-ARPA Awardees here</a>.

This summer’s trips will unite recipients through a series of statewide gatherings, where they can share project progress, explore avenues for additional support from BHECN, exchange best practices, and foster stronger networks.

“The BHECN-ARPA project presents a uniquely powerful opportunity to address enduring behavioral health workforce challenges, especially those compounded by the pandemic,” said Marley Doyle, MD, director of BHECN. “We eagerly anticipate engaging with Nebraska’s outstanding organizations in person, witnessing their groundbreaking efforts, which are poised to improve the lives of so many Nebraskans.”

Jessie Buche, director of the ARPA Awards Program, added, "BHECN is particularly enthusiastic about showcasing the remarkable achievements of BHECN-ARPA awardees in the inaugural year of their projects."

The BHECN-ARPA awardee gatherings will be held:

Tuesday, June 11&nbsp;– 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT at the University of Nebraska&nbsp;at&nbsp;Kearney’s Ockinga Seminar Center.&nbsp;

Tuesday, June 18&nbsp;–&nbsp;9 a.m. to 1 p.m. MDT at Chadron State College&nbsp;in the student center’s Scottsbluff Room.

Tuesday, Aug. 6&nbsp;– 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT at Wayne State College.&nbsp;﻿&nbsp;

Wednesday, Aug. 7&nbsp;– 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT at UNMC.&nbsp;

Media are invited to attend the events. (Best time may be from 10:10-11:30 a.m.; a BHECN awardee will present and then awardees will meet to discuss successes and challenges.)

“Nebraska confronts numerous behavioral health workforce challenges, and our awardees are addressing those challenges head on,” Buche said. “We are excited to hear their insights and amplify their important work.”
