Sheryl Ann Ohrt, 56 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at her mother’s home in Orleans, Nebraska, following a courageous battle with cancer. Sheryl was born on August 27, 1963, in Omaha, Nebraska, the second of four children, to Kenneth Eggert and LoAnne (Richards) Ohrt.

She was baptized at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington, Nebraska and was later confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege. &nbsp;She attended Orleans Public Schools, graduating from Orleans High School with the class of 1981.&nbsp; Sheryl then pursed higher education from UNMC in Omaha, where she received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing and then became a Certified Pediatric Nurse.

Sheryl’s nursing career started at McCook, Nebraska.&nbsp; She then began a career in pediatrics at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney for over 30 years, and most recently worked at Children’s Physicians in Kearney for the last couple years.&nbsp; She was a warm, caring individual, with a heart of gold, which allowed her to excel in her role as a pediatric nurse.&nbsp; &nbsp;was also a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician/Instructor with Safe Kids Car Seat and was very conscientious in serving her patients with dignity, respect and true compassion.&nbsp; Sheryl also treasured the many lasting friendships she made throughout her years as a nurse.

Sheryl loved spending time with her family, and attending all of her nieces and nephews activities.&nbsp; She was a dedicated member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, the church choir and the Bethel Quilters.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Ohrt.

Sheryl leaves to celebrate her life: her mother, LoAnne Ohrt of rural Orleans; sister, Janet Exstrom and her husband, Kent of Holdrege; two brothers: Richard Ohrt and his wife, Hilary of Holdrege; and Dr. James Ohrt and his wife, Nora of Henderson, Nebraska; her nieces and nephews: Kyle Exstrom; Andrea Exstrom; Taylor Dunaway and her husband, Blake; Brody Ohrt; Odessa Ohrt; Dawson Ohrt; Weston Ohrt; and Shepleigh Ohrt; one great-niece, Abigail Dunaway; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege; per CDC guidelines of 10 people or less in the facility at one time.

A memorial has been established in Sheryl’s honor, and kindly suggested to the Bethel Lutheran Church or Safe Kids Car Seat of Kearney.

Sheryl Ann Ohrt (1963-2020

Carolyn Maxine Reddish, 94 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.&nbsp; Carolyn was born on July 26, 1925, in Alma, Nebraska, the only child to Sam and Emma (Sohus) Garrison.&nbsp; She received her education from the Alma Public Schools, entering first grade at the age of five and graduating from Alma High School with the class of 1942.&nbsp; She then pursued her teaching credentials at Nebraska State Teachers College in Kearney, Nebraska, and taught one year in Oxford, Nebraska prior to her marriage.&nbsp;

On January 5, 1945, she was united in marriage to Jack Donald Payne and was loving accepted by the Payne and Skiles families.&nbsp; To this union two daughters were born:&nbsp; Virginia and Naomi.&nbsp; The family farmed near Huntley, Nebraska.&nbsp; They took their chances cash renting acres near Republican City, Nebraska while the Harlan County Dam was being built in hopes their crops would not be flooded.&nbsp; In 1949, they moved to a farm near Axtell, Nebraska and tried their hand at irrigating.&nbsp; While at Axtell, they joined the Lutheran faith and became members of the Trinity Lutheran Church.&nbsp; In 1954, they settled on a farm southwest of Holdrege.&nbsp; At this time, Carolyn began to take night classes to renew her teaching certificate.&nbsp; She taught Kindergarten, then First grade in Loomis, Nebraska for five years.&nbsp; Due to her husband, Jack’s, diabetes, and difficulty with farming due to his health they moved into Holdrege.&nbsp; Carolyn applied to teach in the Holdrege Public School system.&nbsp; At that time it was a trend in schools to have totally self-contained classrooms.&nbsp; Superintendent Howard Schroeder offered her a position if she would teach all 13 subjects and continue her pursuit of her four year degree.&nbsp; This meant that Carolyn agreed to teach all subjects, including music, which was not her strong suit!&nbsp; She gritted her teeth, and with a trusty pitch pipe, taught music by note to 35 first graders for her first few years in Holdrege.&nbsp;

In 1965, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack.&nbsp; In 1967, she was united in marriage to LaWarren W. Nelson, and with this marriage his three children, Janet, 17; Jim, 12; and Joyce, 10, were loving accepted.&nbsp; Carolyn also appreciated being warmly welcomed into the large Nelson and Johnson families.

Carolyn continued to teach for 26 years in Franklin Elementary in Holdrege.&nbsp; A highlight for her was always teaching her first graders to read.&nbsp; Carolyn was also blessed by the learning experience and challenge of teaching English to a brand new student, Euna Kay Nolte, who came to Holdrege straight from Korea.&nbsp; Throughout her years of teaching, Carolyn also enjoyed conducting a Mother’s Day Program with her students each year.&nbsp; She loving created a silhouette of each child as a gift to their parents.&nbsp;

In 1974, Carolyn took night classes on antiques taught by Mrs. Hazel Loar.&nbsp; Carolyn fell in love with the hobby and she and her husband, LaWarren, soon had so many antiques that they started a small shop in their basement on Water Ave.&nbsp; This turned into a life-long business and hobby.&nbsp; In 1995, LaWarren became ill with brain cancer and passed away in 1997.&nbsp;

In 1998, she was blessed with her third marriage to Arthur O. Reddish, Jr.&nbsp; He became the love of her life.&nbsp; They shared 18 years together, growing their collection of cars, antiques, and good friends.&nbsp; They participated in car shows and rallies, garage sales and auctions, family events, and community service projects.&nbsp; Carolyn supported Art as a Korean veteran and helped plan an annual reunion for veterans and support of patriotism.&nbsp;

Besides her parents, and husbands; Carolyn was preceded in death by her grandson, Justin Warner in infancy; and step-son, Jim Nelson.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She leaves to celebrate her life; her two daughters:&nbsp; Virginia (Payne) Moon and her friend, Gregory A. Johnson; and Naomi (Payne) Warner and her husband, Jerry all of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren:&nbsp; Scott Moon and his wife, Jennifer; Jeremy Warner and his wife, Karlin; Stacy Morse and her husband, Reece; Jennifer Renken and her husband, Trent; and Tony Blauvelt and his friend, Jill Wilson; eight great-grandchildren:&nbsp; Richard, Eleanor, Viviane, and Garrett Moon; Henley and Harper Morse; and Grant and Gunner Renken.&nbsp; In addition, she is survived by LaWarren’s children:&nbsp; Janet Blauvelt and her special friend, Duane Devitt of Hastings, Nebraska; and Joyce Nelson of Lincoln; Art’s son, Arthur Reddish III of Lincoln; and a host of other relatives, and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege; per CDC guidelines to the recommendation of 10 people or less in the facility at one time.

Carolyn Maxine Reddish (1925-2020)

Larry Wayne Broadfoot, 64 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at the Mt. Carmel Home Keens Memorial in Kearney.&nbsp; He was born on March 12, 1956, in Kearney, the youngest of four children, to Robert “Keith” and Dorothy (Bailey) Broadfoot.&nbsp; He grew up and received his primary education from Lakeside, Nebraska and Gering, Nebraska.&nbsp; The family then relocated to Oxford, where Larry graduated high school with the class of 1974.

On December 11, 1976, he was united in marriage to Debra Coffey at the First Baptist Church in Oxford and they were blessed with two sons: Jason and Kyle.&nbsp; The family made their home in McCook, Nebraska and later Oxford, where Larry was employed with the Burlington Northern Railroad for 22 years, on the track department.

Larry was an avid outdoorsmen.&nbsp; He loved hunting, fishing, trapshooting, and arrowhead hunting. He also enjoyed playing pool with his friends; but most of all, Larry was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.&nbsp; He always prided himself on never missing his sons’ activities.&nbsp; &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother: Jerry Broadfoot; parents-in-law:&nbsp; Dean and Dorothy Coffey; and Ross Coffey; two brothers-in-law: Phil Coffey and Dick Coffey; and sister-in-law, Karen Jo Coffey.

Left to treasure his memory are: his loving wife of 43 years, Deb Broadfoot of Kearney; his two sons: Jason Broadfoot of Oberlin, Kansas; and Kyle Broadfoot and his wife, Deidra of Cambridge, Nebraska; three grandchildren: Natalie, Harper, and Brooks Broadfoot, all of Cambridge; one brother, Butch Broadfoot and his wife, Jan of Gering; one sister, Nina Bratcher and her husband, Darroll Crabb of Johnstown, Colorado;&nbsp; two sisters-in-law: Sharon Herren and her husband, Don of Kearney; and Karen Coffey of Seward, Nebraska; a brother-in-law, Ben Coffey and his wife, Sue of Seward; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, other relatives and friends.

There will be no visitation as the family is honoring Larry’s wish for cremation.

Larry Wayne Broadfoot (1956-2020

Keven R. Posvar, age 55, of Orleans, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2020, in Beaver City, Nebraska. He was&nbsp;born October 6, 1964 in Norton, Kansas to Gene and Sharon (Alexander) Posvar.

He grew up in Beaver city where he attended school and graduated with the class of 1983.&nbsp; After graduation, he attended&nbsp;the Pine Ridge Job Core in Chadron, Nebraska from 1983 – 1985, where he obtained certificates in many trades. Keven&nbsp;mainly worked in various maintenance jobs while mowing many yards through the years with his nephew Justin. He&nbsp;enjoyed gardening, flowers, and the beauty of nature.&nbsp; Keven was always there to help a neighbor whenever they needed&nbsp;him.

Keven is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Stan and Helen Posvar, maternal grandparents Clair and Leona&nbsp;Alexander, and sister Gena.

He is survived by his parents Gene and Sharon Posvar, nephew Justin and Nikki Putnam and their children Shelby and&nbsp;Addison of Hastings, Nebraska, nieces Brittney Putnam and her children Carson and Averi of Holdrege, Nebraska,&nbsp;Cheyenne and Ryan and their children Hunter and Jackson of Lincoln, Nebraska, Hailey Wessel of Colorado Springs,&nbsp;Colorado, and Cassie Wessel of Omaha, Nebraska, and many other relatives and friends.

There will be no public viewing or visitation with a private family graveside at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Beaver City, Nebraska.

He was&nbsp;born October 6, 1964 in Norton, Kansas to Gene and Sharon (Alexander) Posvar.He grew up in Beaver city where he attended school and graduated with the class of 1983.&nbsp; After graduation, he attended&nbsp;the Pine Ridge Job Core in Chadron, Nebraska from 1983 – 1985, where he obtained certificates in many trades. Keven&nbsp;mainly worked in various maintenance jobs while mowing many yards through the years with his nephew Justin. He&nbsp;enjoyed gardening, flowers, and the beauty of nature.&nbsp; Keven was always there to help a neighbor whenever they needed&nbsp;him.Keven is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Stan and Helen Posvar, maternal grandparents Clair and Leona&nbsp;Alexander, and sister Gena.He is survived by his parents Gene and Sharon Posvar, nephew Justin and Nikki Putnam and their children Shelby and&nbsp;Addison of Hastings, Nebraska, nieces Brittney Putnam and her children Carson and Averi of Holdrege, Nebraska,&nbsp;Cheyenne and Ryan and their children Hunter and Jackson of Lincoln, Nebraska, Hailey Wessel of Colorado Springs,&nbsp;Colorado, and Cassie Wessel of Omaha, Nebraska, and many other relatives and friends.There will be no public viewing or visitation with a private family graveside at Mt. Bob Eckhoff, 86 of Norfolk, formerly of Kearney passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2020 of natural causes at Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk, NE. 

Bob was born August 19, 1933 in Franklin, Nebraska to Ed and Georgia (Trollope) Eckhoff.&nbsp; He grew up on a farm near Hildreth with younger brother Harold and his aunt Ella and uncle Al Kaiser.&nbsp; Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1952.&nbsp; He served in Korea as a Tank Mechanic and was honorably discharged in Jan. of 1955.&nbsp; In June of 1954, Bob was united in marriage to Phyllis Orth.&nbsp; To this union six sons were blessed. Upon returning from the war, Bob completed his education at Southeast Community College in Milford, NE.&nbsp; He was a mechanic at Foree, Speak Motors, Lammers Repair and worked nearly twenty years at Rockwell until the plant closed.&nbsp; In 1988, Bob moved to Garner, North Carolina where he continued working for Rockwell until retiring.

In August of 2013, Bob suffered a series of strokes.&nbsp; He moved back to Hooper, Nebraska, then in October of 2016, he moved to the Veterans Home in Norfolk, NE.

Bob was an avid Cornhusker football fan. He enjoyed racecars, hunting and fishing.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Ken (Sandy) Eckhoff of Hooper, NE, Steve (Kandi) Eckhoff of Kearney, Jeff Eckhoff of Garner, NC, Dan (Vicki) Eckhoff of Papillion, NE and Tim of Fremont, NE; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don and Harold; and young son, Robbie Eckhoff; grandson, Matthew Eckhoff and nephew, Jerry Eckhoff.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2020 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney with Military Honors provided by Kearney American Legion Post #52 and VFW Post #759 in conjunction with the Nebraska National Guard Honors Team. Bob Eckhoff (1933-2020

Neal J. Boyd, 75, of Johnson Lake, Nebraska passed away on Monday, May 25, 2020 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

He was born on April 8, 1945 to Earl and Agatha (Fyder) Boyd in Lewellen, Nebraska. &nbsp;He grew up in Hastings, Nebraska, where he attended Hastings St. Cecilia and Hastings High School where he graduated with the class of 1963.&nbsp;

Following high school, Neal found his calling as an Engineer with the Union Pacific Railroad where he would work for the next 38 years.&nbsp;

Neal was united in marriage to Joyce on January 29, 1983 in Colorado. &nbsp;They made their home at Johnson Lake in 1986 where they’ve made lifelong friends.

Neal enjoyed playing golf, was an avid tennis player in his younger years and a Nebraska football fan. &nbsp;He loved sitting on the deck at the lake and relaxing with family and friends. &nbsp;Neal and Joyce enjoyed travelling and entertaining friends at their home.

Neal was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Joyce of Johnson Lake; children, Shawna (Patrick) Boyd of Point Arena, California, Jason (Alecia) Boyd of Kearney, Tina (Kevin) Harvey of North Platte and Susan (John) Blach of Omaha; eight grandchildren, Chelsie, Tanner, Hope, Willa, Jake, Anna, Jenna &amp; Maddox; one great-grandchild, Harper; sisters, Sharon Hecht of Lincoln and Kathy (Dean) Clark of Lincoln; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Neal J. Boyd (1945-2020

Harvey D. Lovenburg, 92 of Grant, former longtime Madrid resident, passed away May 26, 2020, at Perkins County Health Services in Grant.

Harvey was born June 29, 1927, at Madrid, Nebraska, to Ed and Isabelle (Kelso) Lovenburg. He attended school in Madrid.

In 1945, Harvey married Rosalie Bates. The couple farmed in Perkins County their entire married lives, primarily south of Madrid. Rosalie passed away in 1990. In 1997, Harvey moved into town.&nbsp; He enjoyed a wonderful companionship with Katy Miyamoto, which spanned over twenty-five years.

Harvey was quite reserved and tended to keep to himself.&nbsp; He was honest and hard-working, enjoying the simple things of life.&nbsp; Harvey always enjoyed spending time around kids and animals.&nbsp; He also liked to take an occasional trip to the casinos until his health would no longer allow such adventurous outings.

Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie; his son, David; granddaughter, Sasha Gartner; five brothers and one sister.

Harvey is survived by his son, Don of Enders; daughter, Sharon Gartner of Chadron; special friend, Katy Miyamoto of Grant; six grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Ellen Carroll, age 74, of McCook passed away on Tuesday May 19, 2020, at the Hillcrest Nursing Home.&nbsp; She was born in McCook NE on July 1, 1945 to Earl and E. Lorene Carroll.

Mary Ellen worked several years in McCook as a beautician.&nbsp; She enjoyed taking her nieces and nephews to the park, feeding the ducks, and going to movies, especially the drive-in movies.

She enjoyed crocheting hats, scarfs, and afghans for all the babies she knew.&nbsp; &nbsp;For years she and her nephew Keaton (when in town) would deliver the paper to the residents and the nursing home.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Lorene Carroll; sisters, Donna Jean,&nbsp;and Juanita Weber; two brothers, Richard Carroll and Leonard Carroll; and brother-in-law, Darrel Malleck.

She is survived by two sisters, Lois Malleck of Amarillo, TX and Nancy and husband, Bud Boyer, of Overland Park, KS; sister-in-law, Claudia Carroll of Youngstown, FL;&nbsp; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside services are pending and will be announced later.

Mary Ellen Cacrroll (1945-2020

Brett Allen Torres was called home on May 22, 2020. He was born in North Platte, Nebraska, to Ray and Vicki (Vigil) Torres on April 15, 1995. He grew up in North Platte where he was baptized at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Brett’s pride and joy was his dog, Rawlk. They enjoyed the outdoors and loved goose hunting, bow hunting and skateboarding. Rawlk never left his side and comforted him at his time of death. He enjoyed spending time with his many friends and family around the firepit. He loved to cook and share what he had with anybody.

Brett lived life on his terms. He believed in respect and kindness for all. He stood strong for what he believed was right. He would hold you over the troubled waters while he stood under it.

Brett had a piercing smile, amazing sense of humor and an infectious laugh that will continue to shine in the skies of Heaven. He is now proud to be God’s warrior.

Brett leaves behind his family which includes his mother and stepfather, Vicki and Dan Czech; father, Ray Torres, and fiancé, Dana Scott; brothers, Tylor (Kendra) Torres and Zachry Torres; step siblings, Dana Johnson, Corey, Summer, and Cortney Scott.

Survivors also include his grandparents, Dave (Pat) Vigil, Janet (Doyle) McIntosh, Pete and Deloris Torres; nephews, TJ and Rudy Torres, Dax Johnson, Grayden and Xander Matthews; along with a multitude of loving aunts, uncles, cousins,&nbsp;Benny Morales, Dillon and Vaughn Miller  and friends.

Brett Allen Torres (1995-2020

Phyllis Christensen, age 92, of Gothenburg, passed away at Hilltop Estates on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

Phyllis was born at Brady on March, 1, 1928, to Abe and Minnie Towers.&nbsp; Phyllis graduated from Maxwell High School then got married.

She married C.H. 'John' Zimbelman in 1946.&nbsp; The couple lived in North Platte and later divorced.&nbsp; In the early '70's, Phyllis married Leroy Christensen and they lived in Arnold.&nbsp; Following Leroy's death, Phyllis moved back to North Platte.

Over the years, Phyllis worked as a secretary for Hickman Lumber Company, was an operator at Northwestern Bell Telephone, then night auditor for Holiday Inn.&nbsp; She enjoyed being a volunteer for different organizations including the Thrift Store, MOPS, the NebraskaLand Days Pork Breakfast and with activities at First Christian Church, where she was a member.

Along with her husband, Leroy, Phyllis was preceded in death by her children, Deb and John Zimbelman; sisters, Rogene Adams and Betty Nielsen; and her parents, Abe and Minnie Towers.

Survivors include her sons, Mike (Sara) Zimbelman, of Lincoln and Charles Towers, of Thermopolis, WY; grandchildren, Zac (Shalyn) Zimbelman, Zane (Kathryn) Zimbelman, Melissa Smith and Jordan Coleman; great-grandchildren, Racheal and Dane Daigger, Jill Smith and Johnathan Zimbelman; niece and nephews, Kim Clawson, Waldo and Wade Pierson; and other family.

Cremation was chosen and services are pending with Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore.

'John' Zimbelman in 1946.&nbsp; The couple lived in North Platte and later divorced.&nbsp; In the early '70's, Phyllis married Leroy Christensen and they lived in Arnold.&nbsp; Following Leroy's death, Phyllis moved back to North Platte.Over the years, Phyllis worked as a secretary for Hickman Lumber Company, was an operator at Northwestern Bell Telephone, then night auditor for Holiday Inn.&nbsp; She enjoyed being a volunteer for different organizations including the Thrift Store, MOPS, the NebraskaLand Days Pork Breakfast and with activities at First Christian Church, where she was a member.Along with her husband, Leroy, Phyllis was preceded in death by her children, Deb and John Zimbelman; sisters, Rogene Adams and Betty Nielsen; and her parents, Abe and Minnie Towers.Survivors include her sons, Mike (Sara) Zimbelman, of Lincoln and Charles Towers, of Thermopolis, WY; grandchildren, Zac (Shalyn) Zimbelman, Zane (Kathryn) Zimbelman, Melissa Smith and Jordan Coleman; great-grandchildren, Racheal and Dane Daigger, Jill Smith and Johnathan Zimbelman; niece and nephews, Kim Clawson, Waldo and Wade Pierson; and other family.Cremation was chosen and services are pending with Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore.

Wanetta Halbert, 82, of Kearney passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at her home in Kearney.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Wanetta Keenan was born January 8, 1938 in Alliance, Nebraska to Theodore and Fern (Sherfey) Keenan.&nbsp; She attended Minden Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1955.&nbsp; Wanetta was united in marriage to Brian Halbert on March 10, 1957 at the United Methodist Church in Minden.&nbsp; In 1976, they bought Bico’s Cafe, which they owned and operated for 25 years, retiring in 2001.&nbsp; They couple later moved to Lake McConaughy at Lemoyne.

She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, reading and traveling.&nbsp; Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Robbin Halbert-Martin; granddaughter, Kylie Epp of Kearney; grandson, Shane Martin all of Kearney; great grandchildren, Marley, Mila and Maxwell Epp, Dean Martin all of Kearney, and Addelyn and Ava Hooks of Wynona, MN; sister, Barbara Harms of Kearney; brother Bob (Chris) Keenan of Renton, WA; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

She was united in marriage to Cecil Guerra on August 26, 1996 and the couple lived in North Platte.&nbsp; To this union, three daughters were born, Monica, Nikki and Erica.&nbsp; Connie enjoyed her grandchildren and nieces and nephews and they were her life.&nbsp; She also enjoyed her plants, flowers and her pets.

Connie was a little stubborn and very hard headed but a very giving person.&nbsp; She also attended Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church where she was baptized in 2005.

Oscar Palmer Jr. of Cozad passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Emerald Care Center at the age of 87. 

Oscar was born April 18, 1933 at Seminole, Oklahoma to Oscar Sr. and Deloris (James) Palmer.&nbsp; Oscar served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957.&nbsp; In November of 1959, Oscar married Deloris Alspaw in Bakersfield, California.&nbsp; Their union was blessed with two children, John and Jennifer. Oscar was a delivery driver for Montgomery Ward and a custodian for a school in Bakersfield.&nbsp; He and Deloris moved to Cozad in 1994 and he worked as a custodian at Cozad City Schools. 

Oscar took great pride in his lawn and washing his car. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, watching sports and John Wayne westerns, his favorite movie was "Shane".&nbsp; Oscar loved spending time with his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. 

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents; sister, May Francis Palmer and brother, Jerry Palmer.

Oscar Palmer Jr. (1933-2020

Marilyn Kelly, loving wife and mother of three children, passed away at the age of 70 on Thursday, May 21, 2020. Marilyn and her husband, Gerald Kelly, have resided in Cozad, NE, for 16 years.

On July 22, 1949, in Lexington, NE, Roger and Ella (Wilcox) Fleming welcomed Marilyn into the world a few minutes before her identical twin sister, Carolyn Sheets of Gothenburg, NE.

Marilyn grew up on a farm outside Sargent, NE, and graduated from Sargent High School in 1967.&nbsp; On June 14, 1969, Marilyn married Gerald, the love of her life and, last year, they celebrated 50 years of marriage.&nbsp; They moved to Ponca City, OK, in 1970.&nbsp; Marilyn’ had all three of her children born within 16 days of Christmas.&nbsp; This made shopping for birthdays and Christmases much easier for her.&nbsp; Marilyn chose to stay at home to raise her children but found time to volunteer at her kids’ schools and enjoyed catering with a friend.&nbsp; Marilyn followed all three kids and their sports and activities.&nbsp; She was a fixture at her kids’ athletic events and could be heard, over all the other parents, cheering and coaching her kids.

Marilyn and Carolyn enjoyed the mischief of being twins, dressing alike, and creating one family out of two.&nbsp; Growing up, Marilyn’s kids couldn’t understand why their mom had a photo of her and Uncle Allen next to a photo of her and dad.&nbsp; To demonstrate how alike they were, Marilyn and Carolyn both had the only two red-haired kids in the family.

Cody, was Marilyn’s fourth and most favorite child, despite being a tiny, furry mop of a dog.&nbsp; Cody protected her fiercely and wouldn’t even allow his older “siblings” to get close to her.&nbsp; Cody went everywhere with her and was notorious for playing the role of a neck rest while she drove around for her errands.

Marilyn had a passion for crocheting, sewing, cross stitch, and plastic canvas.&nbsp; In the ‘70s she spent a few years as a polyester fashion designer.&nbsp; She was best known for sewing seasonal outfits for her concrete geese; the geese were always dressed to impress each passerby.

She gave her opinion without apology, hated having her picture taken, made multiple trips each year to visit her kids and grandkids, told people in the checkout lane all about her children and grandchildren, and tested her kids’ knowledge of computer programs.

Second to her pride in and love for her children, grandchildren, and grand pets — Marilyn loved the color purple, spun glass, angels, kid’s meal toys, freebies, romance novels, musicals, Hallmark movies, word searches, solitaire, kitty shirts, roosters, and “reusable” food containers. Marilyn created a new word—“flusterated” (flustered plus frustrated)—that perfectly describes how the family feels without her.

Marilyn’s spirit is carried on by her husband, Gerald, of Cozad; daughter Kimberly (Dan) DeVall of Jemez Springs, NM; sons Chris (Carrie) Kelly of Plano, TX and Jeremy (Sarah) Kelly of Owasso, OK; Grandchildren Aidan, Abbey, Gabrielle, and Cooper; sisters Carolyn Sheets, Gena Urban, Kay Gould, and Ada Kohler; brothers-in-law Duane Kelly, Bernard Kelly, and Bill Kelly; sister-in-law JoAnne Sadler; several cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents Roger and Ella Fleming, infant sister Twila, parents-in-law Lawrence and Juanita Kelly, and her beloved Cody.

Longtime resident of Imperial passed away Monday, May 25, 2020, at the Great Plains Health Hospital in North Platte, NE.&nbsp; Bill was 91 years of age.

William “Bill” Sharp



Gene Lowell Rowley was born the fourth child of George and Wilma Rowley on September 28,1931.&nbsp; It was the third year of the Great Depression and times were tough.&nbsp; Despite the lack of luxuries they nurtured a warm and loving home.&nbsp; Teaching each child the value of hard work, discipline, and a good attitude.&nbsp; His parents prepared Gene to carry that importance to his children and grandchildren.&nbsp; He worked the best job he could, as hard as he could.&nbsp; 

He married Mary Lea Andrews and together they worked tirelessly and provided an excellent environment to raise three good children.&nbsp; Nikki, Becky and Richie flourished as Gene worked jobs from farmer to dam builder, gas station owner/operator, on to manager of Universal Blueprint Paper company to name a few.&nbsp; He taught by example and retired a Master Plumber.&nbsp; 

He was very popular.&nbsp; Everyone loved Gene and he invested kindness and laughter in each person he met.&nbsp; He lit up the room with a natural charisma and treated everyone like an old friend.&nbsp; He also loved to aggravate and took this to a professional level along with practical jokes.&nbsp; He liked nothing more than to talk friends and relatives into doing dumb things.&nbsp; Preferably in front of others. 

His accomplishments include: Graduate of Chase County High school, Good Citizens award, Employee of the year, (more than once, Graduate Apprentice of Arkansas Plumbing Board, Dedication (in his name) of the building at the Shirley Ball Park.

Gene is missed by so many because he asked so little and gave so much. We Love You Daddy.

He was preceded in death by his five brothers: Darrell Austin Rowley, Bobby Neal Rowley, George Grover Rowley, Gail Dwight Rowley, Dennis Arlan Rowley.&nbsp; Also one sister: Gwendolyn Maxine Rowley.&nbsp; Parents George Edward and Wilma Rowena Waidley Rowley.&nbsp; One grand: Mitsy Ann Brown. 

Gene is survived by one sister Glenda Aurelia Loeffler. Daughter Becky Jean Baker Grand and great grand Doug and Colton Brown. Daughter John and Nikki Davis. Grands and Great Grands, Cody and Kristine Davis, Sienna and Kayden Davis. One Son Richard Lowell Rowley and Grands Paisley Rain, Kaleb, and Shelbi Rea Rowley. 

Graveside inurnment services will be held Monday afternoon, June 1, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. (MT) at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial.

Fredora F. Harrison, age 85, of McCook, NE, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Highland Park Retirement Community, in McCook.&nbsp; She was born in Hays County, near Culbertson on February 23, 1935 to Fredrick J. and Maudie L. (Spickelmier) Wilson.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was united in marriage to Donald Harrison on July 23, 1954 and he preceded her in death January 12, 2020.

She is survived by her two sons, Mike (Marla) Harrison of Goodland, KS; Don (Carey) Harrison of Stratton; two daughters, Shari (Dennis) Young McCook, NE, Teresa (Mike) Brown of Stratton; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Clark Bates officiating.&nbsp; Interment will be in the Ash Grove Cemetery of rural Stratton, NE.&nbsp; Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, from 11:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel. Fredora F. Harrison (1935-2020

Janice Lee Rickertsen, age 64, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, passed away at her home on May 26, 2020 after a battle with cancer, at her home in Gothenburg surrounded by her loving family and her loving husband.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was born on August 5, 1955 in Cozad, Nebraska, daughter of Milton and Jewel (Roe) Schulz.&nbsp; She attended school at Willow Island and graduated from Gothenburg High School.&nbsp; She attended art school in Omaha, Nebraska and never lost her love for art and all things creative.&nbsp; Jan married Archie Rickertsen on August 4, 1974 at Gothenburg and they had four children, Jarrid, Luke, Ginny, and Holly.&nbsp; Jan was a busy farm wife, mother and later her favorite role of "Nana."&nbsp; She enjoyed operating the combine while wearing her custom combine shirt with her personal motto of "Not Much Fear."

Jan was active in the First Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Presbyterian Women, Youth Group Leader, and Sunday School Teacher.&nbsp; She spent many hours of volunteering opportunities in her community - CASA, Hospice, YMCA Advisory Board, and TeamMates.&nbsp; She was a member of a sewing circle and the PEO.&nbsp; She loved to travel and play cards with friends.&nbsp; Always the perfect hostess, she found her niche as the owner of an AirB&amp;B.

Survivors include her loving husband, Archie Rickertsen of Gothenburg, Nebraska; two sons, Jarrid (Kristen) Rickertsen of Gothenburg and Luke (Julie) Rickertsen of Jeffrey Lake, Nebraska; two daughters, Ginny (Travis) Peterson of Gothenburg and Holly Meints of Gothenburg; her beloved foreign exchange student son, Jeroen (Inge) Meijer of the Netherlands; 12 grandchildren; her mother, Jewel Schulz of Gothenburg; two sisters,&nbsp; Sharon Auld of Warsaw, Missouri and Laurie Clark of Gothenburg; a brother, Ken (Heidi) Schulz of Anchorage, Alaska; along with numerous extended family and a host of friends.

Janice was preceded in death by her father, Milton Lee Schulz; her in-laws, Bill &amp; Lucille Rickertsen; and two brother-in-laws, Robert Auld and Jeffrey Clark.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date due to the current health situation.
