Dee Lichtenberger age 74 of Callaway, passed away on May 17, 2020 at the Wel-Life Assisted Living in Kearney.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Charldene "Dee" Weinman Lichtenberger was born January 9, 1946 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Keith and Bethel Weinman.

She attended school in Crete, Nebraska graduating in 1964.&nbsp; She graduated from cosmetology school in Lincoln, Nebraska.&nbsp;

She married Don Dakan and had three sons. She owned Laser Art Design in Kearney, Nebraska and in Callaway where she worked as president from 1988 until 2017.

&nbsp; She married Roy William "Bill" Lichtenberger in 2001, they made their home together in Callaway until he passed away in 2016. She is preceded in death by her son Matthew and her parents. 

Charldene loved her friends and family and enjoyed volunteering her time.&nbsp; She was very involved in her church and her hometown of Callaway.&nbsp; She was a member of many local, state, and national organizations that are all dedicated to serving others.

Charldene leaves behind her sons Monte (Pam) Dakan and Michael Dakan, of Kearney, her brother Jerry (Sharon) Weinman of Newaygo Michigan, her nieces Candice (Luther) Matthies of Texas, Amy Weinman of Michigan, and Mary (Brian) Spicer of Michigan, along with 3 great nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, Betty Sergun, Gladys Spangler, Shirley Pierce of Callaway, stepchildren Debbie Schaaf, of Kearney, and Troy (Lee) Lichtenberger of Alabama. She also leaves behind several grandchildren including Cinjin Faber of Cozad, Cedric, Christian, and Chloe Dakan, James and Grace Dakan, all of Kearney, Savannah Schaaf and great-grandchildren Sophia and Scott, of Cairo, Nebraska.&nbsp;

Charldene "Dee" Weinman Lichtenberger (1946-2020)

Emma Theresa Safranek Lyon, born near Merna, NE, to Caroline (Vollmer) Safranek and Paul Herman Safranek.&nbsp; She was baptized on July 3, 1921 and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Merna in 1935.&nbsp; Emma grew up in the Merna area, graduated from Merna High School in 1938 and taught 4 years in area rural schools.&nbsp; During one summer she attended Kearney State Teachers College.&nbsp;

On April 2, 1944 Emma married Dwight William Lyon at the Merna Immanuel Lutheran Church.&nbsp; They lived in California and North Carolina while Dwight was in the U. S. Army, preparing to leave for Europe in WW II. Until Dwight’s return, Emma resided and worked in Lincoln, NE.&nbsp; After his return, the couple settled near Merna on the Lyon Ranch and were members of the Merna Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Born to the union were three children:&nbsp; Carolyn Sue (1947, William Dean (1955-1956) and Dennis Lee (1958).&nbsp; From 1998 to 2010, Emma and Dwight lived in Scottsdale, AZ as winter residents where they were associate members of Desert Foothills Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Dwight passed away in 2010 and Emma moved to Off Broadway Assisted Living in Broken Bow, NE in 2016.&nbsp; She was a resident of Brookstone View Care Center when she passed away.

Throughout her life she was involved as the church organist at Merna Immanuel Lutheran Church, Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher. &nbsp;She held all offices in the L.W.M.L. (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, was a delegate from the Kearney Zone to the International Convention in Kansas City, MO., and attended 5 other International Conventions.

Emma’s involvement in the community included: Extension Clubs, 4-H Clubs, Merna American Legion Auxiliary for 60 years and the American Cancer Society Annual Drive.

Survivors include: one daughter, Carolyn Teten (Arnold) of Peoria, AZ; one son Dennis Lyon of San Diego, CA; one brother, Herman Safranek (Detta) of Merna, NE.&nbsp; Grandchildren include Darci Fortune (Charles) of Gunter, TX, Dr. Ryan Teten (Tonya) of Kearney, NE, Dr. Andra Tharp (Jim) of League City, TX, 1 step-grandchild Matthew (Ashley) Forture of Anna, TX, and 6 great-grandchildren: Aidan and Seth Teten, Grace and Braden Fortune, Odessa and Grey Tharp and 2 great-great step-grandchildren; Harper and Mattis Fortune.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dwight Lyon, a son William, sisters Gertrude Tillman and Josephine Cool, a brother Karl Safranek, two sisters-in-law Lenore Lyon and Mildred Safranek and two brothers–in-law Dale Cool and Art Tillman.

All memorials will go to the Merna Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday May 19th&nbsp;at 10:30 a.m. in the Merna cemetery with Pastor Jason Krause officiating. Burial will follow in the Merna Cemetery.

Emma Theresa Safranek Lyon (1921-2020

Luis Angel Garcia-Torres, 21, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020 at Lexington Regional Health Center.

He was born in Mexico to Luis Enrique Garcia-Sanchez and Maria Carmen Torres-Salazar. His family moved to Lexington, Nebraska when Luis was 4. Luis was raised by and lived with his grandparents, Jose Luis Garcia Rodriguez and Maria C. Sanchez Lopez. He received his education from Lexington Public Schools and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 2018. Something that Luis was very proud of.

Luis was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington.

Those who knew Luis can attest to his sense of humor; he loved to make people laugh. He loved playing video games and enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially at the lake with his family. Luis was very friendly and kind hearted.

Luis leaves to celebrate is life; his grandparents, Jose Luis Garcia Rodriguez and Maria C. Sanchez Lopez of Lexington; his father, Luis Enrique Garcia-Sanchez of Dodge City, Kansas; his mother, Maria Carmen Torres-Salazar of Lexington; two sisters, Claudia (Efren) Cabrera of Des Moines, Iowa and Yuritzia Garcia of Wichita, Kansas; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.

Luis Angel Garcia-Torres (1999-2020

Richard Paul Ridder, age 82, passed away on May 16th, 2020 at his home in Callaway, Nebraska surrounded by his family.

Richard was born September 8th, 1937 to Alvis &amp; Lucille (Snyder) Ridder in Callaway, NE. He grew up on a ranch west of Callaway. He graduated with the class of 1954 from Callaway High School.&nbsp; In 1956, he joined the Army and spent 1 year in Germany.&nbsp; After being honorably discharged in 1958, Rich went into farming and ranching with his father.&nbsp; 

In 1962, he married Nancy Thompson in North Platte, NE.&nbsp; He loved the land, the baby calves, hunting, fishing, and in his retirement playing pool at the Senior Center.&nbsp; He spent long hours farming but always made time for his family.&nbsp; His hobbies included wood working &amp; building things. 

Richard was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church his entire life, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and served on the St. Boniface Church Board for many years.&nbsp; He served on the Farmer’s Co-op Elevator Board for 14 years, the Delight Township Board for 12 years, and served on the Callaway School Board for 12 years.

His survivors include his wife, Nancy of 58 years; his 3 children, Ann (Pat) Cockerill of Gretna, NE, Jeff (Kim) Ridder of Lincoln, NE, &amp; Laura Duff of Gretna, NE; 6 grandchildren, Josh (Katie) Vogel, Trevor (Madeline) Vogel, Cole Ridder, Maddie Ridder, Morgan (Jake) Swoboda, &amp; Spencer Duff; 4 great grandchildren, Violet, River, June, &amp; Finn; brother, Ron (Deb) Ridder; as well as many nieces, nephews, &amp; cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvis &amp; Lucille Ridder; parents-in-law, Carl &amp; Peg Thompson; son-in-law, Dave Duff; 4 sisters, Marcella, Helen, Elaine, &amp; Carolyn; 2 brothers, Harold &amp; Charles.

Richard Paul Ridder (1937-2020

Morgan Wells, 85 years of age, of Axtell, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at his home.&nbsp; 

He was born on July 27, 1934, to Dale and Ethel (Elm) Wells in Minden, Nebraska.&nbsp; He grew up on the family farm near Axtell and attended Axtell Community School.&nbsp; He graduated with the class of 1952, and during his high school years he was active in all sports, receiving many awards, including being State Football Champions.

Morgan attended college at UNL to play football and was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity.&nbsp; His sophomore year, he transferred to Kearney State Teacher’s College to play football for the Loper’s.

In 1955, Morgan was united in marriage to Shirley Thurston and to this union 3 children were born: Sheree, Scott and Stacy.

In 1957, Morgan was inducted into the United States Army and was stationed in Olympia, Washington for two years.&nbsp; After his honorable discharge, he returned to Axtell where he spent his life farming, first with his dad, then with his son, and grandson.

Morgan loved sports, whether he was playing, coaching, or watching his children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He was an avid golfer, bridge player, coin collector and Nebraska football fan.

Throughout his life, Morgan was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, ushering and serving on the board. He was also a Board Member of the Axtell CO-OP.&nbsp; In 1975, he was elected to the Board of Directors for the&nbsp; First National Bank in Minden, (First Bank and Trust Co.) where he served for 43 ½ years.

Morgan married Connie (Cole) Luke of Kearney in 1987. The couple lived in Axtell and were married for nine years until Connie’s death.

Morgan will be remembered for his fun, generous personality. He enjoyed teasing, joking, betting on everything, as well as “flipping a quarter” with anyone that would play.&nbsp; He loved his family and friends, and treasured their time together.&nbsp; He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest!

 </figure>Morgan Wells, 85 years of age, of Axtell, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at his home.&nbsp; He was born on July 27, 1934, to Dale and Ethel (Elm) Wells in Minden, Nebraska.&nbsp; He grew up on the family farm near Axtell and attended Axtell Community School.&nbsp; He graduated with the class of 1952, and during his high school years he was active in all sports, receiving many awards, including being State Football Champions.Morgan attended college at UNL to play football and was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity.&nbsp; His sophomore year, he transferred to Kearney State Teacher’s College to play football for the Loper’s.In 1955, Morgan was united in marriage to Shirley Thurston and to this union 3 children were born: Sheree, Scott and Stacy.In 1957, Morgan was inducted into the United States Army and was stationed in Olympia, Washington for two years.&nbsp; After his honorable discharge, he returned to Axtell where he spent his life farming, first with his dad, then with his son, and grandson.Morgan loved sports, whether he was playing, coaching, or watching his children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He was an avid golfer, bridge player, coin collector and Nebraska football fan.Throughout his life, Morgan was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, ushering and serving on the board. He was also a Board Member of the Axtell CO-OP.&nbsp; In 1975, he was elected to the Board of Directors for the&nbsp; First National Bank in Minden, (First Bank and Trust Co.) where he served for 43 ½ years.Morgan married Connie (Cole) Luke of Kearney in 1987. The couple lived in Axtell and were married for nine years until Connie’s death.Morgan will be remembered for his fun, generous personality. Matthew Lawrence Kemper, 38, of North Platte, died May 14, 2020 at home.&nbsp; He was born January 30, 1982 in Dayton, Ohio, to Lawrence Kemper and Michelle Barnes.

Matthew graduated from North Scott Senior High School in 2000 and then attended college.&nbsp; He started work as a contractor for the military in Illinois. In November 2017, he moved back to North Platte to be closer to his family.

Matthew will be remembered as being very funny and for having a big heart for those around him.&nbsp; He loved animals and always wanted to open a shelter to help dogs.&nbsp; He was a fan of watching WWE wrestling.

Jimmie B.&nbsp;Mingus, 86 of Dannebrog, died on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 not of Covid-19, but of advanced age.&nbsp;

He was born Oct 29th, 1933 to Wally and Anna (Nielsen) Mingus in the Dannebrog area and was a 4th generation&nbsp;Nielsen from this area.&nbsp;

He married Ursila Roark, the love of his life on Jan. 31, 1956 and had three children with her.&nbsp;

He was a member of Faith Lutheran church and in his later years attending church and coffee at Tom’s were his main enjoyments in life besides his family.

He had an Associate’s Degree in Mechanics and was a mechanic in the Scotia and St. Paul areas in the 60’s and 70’s. He started his own business, Mingus Repair and M&amp;R Auto Sales in the mid 70’s.&nbsp; He loved working on anything mechanical.&nbsp; Later he worked for Redman Homes, Delicious Foods, and finally MFS York. He retired after 2003 to take care of his wife.&nbsp;

Those left to carry on his legacy include his brother, Ralph and wife Judy Mingus;&nbsp; his daughters, Rene Mingus and partner, Gary May,&nbsp;and Sue Mingus; grandchildren, Tyler Martian and wife, Megan Wichman, April Martian, James and wife, Erika Edmondson, David and wife, Gabriela Edmondson, James Mingus, and Alexander Hood;&nbsp;great-grandchildren, Dillon Edmondson,&nbsp;Emilia Grace Edmondson, and&nbsp;Keira Edmondson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Diane Marie Biss, 66, of North Platte, died May 12, 2020 at Great Plains Health. She was born January 23, 1954 in North Platte to Charles and Maxine (Hunter) Kelley.

Diane graduated from North Platte High School in 1972 and worked at Sno White for several years. She then worked at Watson Insurance as a secretary, Mentzer Oil, and Kwik Stop before having to retire.

She married Larry Biss on October 5, 1974 in North Platte. She opened, owned and operated her own daycare. In doing this she developed lifelong friendships with “her kids”.

Diane was a girl and boy scout leader and Past Madam President of the Eagles. She loved to camp and was a member of the Lake Maloney Club. She loved playing pool and the holidays, especially Halloween. She always had a smile on her face and will be remembered for her distinctive laugh.

Survivors include husband Larry of North Platte; two children, Wade Biss of Denver, Co and Dr. Wendy Biss of Kona, HI; cats, Frac and Bruce; siblings Sandra Dagson of West Jordan, Utah, and Doug (Theresa) Kelley of North Platte; sister-in-law, Shannon Kelley of North Platte; numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Diane Marie Biss (1954-2020

Lois Jean High, 95 years of age, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Kearney, Nebraska, and Bertrand, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at the Tabitha Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln.&nbsp; Jean was born on May 7, 1925, on the family farm, a few miles southwest of Loomis, Nebraska, the daughter of John A. and Margaret Agnes (Piska) Pierce.&nbsp; She was baptized as an infant on December 6, 1925. Her father called her Jean or Jeanie, the reason she was known by her middle name most of her life.

Education was always important to Jean. She attended the Urbana School District, southeast of Bertrand, through eighth grade and then Bertrand High School, graduating in 1942. As an eighth grader, she received the second highest score in the Phelps County exams, which at the time, were required from those attending country school before entering high school.&nbsp; During high school, she and her sister Mary Lou, lived in town during the week where they rented a room and would go home on weekends.&nbsp; She participated in musical activities; playing a horn in the band, singing in several vocal ensembles, and in particular, as an alto, in very talented girl’s sextet, who sang at a national contest in Omaha, Nebraska.&nbsp; Later in her retired life, while living in Kearney, she enrolled in several classes at Kearney State College.

Following her high school graduation, Jean worked several jobs, including:&nbsp; as a switchboard operator at St Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lincoln; an assistant cashier for the Bank of Bertrand; a bookkeeper for Kingsley Lumber Yard; and perhaps of greatest historical interest to her family, popping corn at the local movie theater on Friday and Saturday evenings (which directly led to meeting her future husband, Lloyd).&nbsp; Her primary jobs after marriage, were full-time duties as a homemaker, raising four children on the family farm.&nbsp; She also had excellent clerical skills, working at the Bertrand Herald as a linotype operator, as well as typing and proofreading documents.

On March 19, 1950, Jean was united in marriage to Lloyd Reynold High at the First United Methodist Church in Bertrand.&nbsp; The couple made their home on the family farm southwest of Bertrand.&nbsp; God blessed this union with four children:&nbsp; Mary Louise, Robin, Kathleen, and Marcia. Jean focused on raising their children and worked alongside Lloyd on the farm. They encouraged their children to study music; both within the public school and with piano lessons, and to grow in the Christian faith.

Church membership and activities were very important her entire life. Jean’s Welsh grandfather, Robert S. Pierce, founded the Urbana Congregational Church, about ten miles southeast of Bertrand, where they attended, when she was young. Later, they attended the Methodist Church in Loomis, and then attended the Bertrand Methodist Church when she was in high school, where she retained her membership until her marriage to Lloyd.&nbsp; With this direct connection to a full Swede, she knew immediately that her new church home would be Lutheran.They were faithful members at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand for 35 years.&nbsp;&nbsp; After Lloyd retired from farming, they moved to Kearney, where they began their membership at First Lutheran Church in 1985. In 2012, Jean began to make her home in Lincoln.

Jean will be remembered for many reasons, in particular, how she cared for the family farm; including the presence of many colorful flowers beds and a full garden. She and Lloyd frequently made trips to Camp Carol Joy Holling near Ashland, Nebraska, in its early years, to help with landscaping and other improvement projects. She was a gracious hostess, always eager to prepare and serve a full meal or an afternoon snack to friends and for small and large family gatherings.&nbsp; She enjoyed having family reunion activities take place at the farm for both the Pierce and High families.&nbsp; She loved music, especially attending concerts while living in Kearney and also on the many trips she and Lloyd took from coast to coast, to attend National Barbershop Conventions.

She was preceded in death by; her husband, Lloyd; her parents; four siblings and their spouses:&nbsp; sisters:&nbsp; Mildred and Court Stineman; Lorene and Everette Waters; and Mary Lou and Gayle Hewitt; brother, Byron and Anne Pierce; niece, Sarah Jane Pierce; nephew, John Stineman; great-niece, Elizabeth Waters; and great-nephew, Tony Kirkpatrick.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: son, Robin High of Omaha; and three daughters and their spouses:&nbsp; Mary Bergstrom and her husband, Jerry of Johnson Lake, Nebraska; Kathy Holland and her husband, Rick of Lincoln; and Marcia Graham and her husband, Rich of Cheney, Washington; eight grandchildren:&nbsp; Bjorn Bergstrom and his wife, Jeanene; Haley Bergstrom; Sara (Holland) Fjell and her husband, Adam; Alissa (Holland) Hinz and her husband, Nick; Allyson (Dunning) Keightley and her husband, Beau; Laura (Dunning) Somerville and her husband, Brandon; Samuel Dunning and his wife, Stephanie; and Keenan Dunning; eight great-grandchildren:&nbsp; Braylon and Avery Fjell; Addilynn Hinz; Bristol, Aspen, and Camden Keightley; and Brody and Asher Dunning; three nieces:&nbsp; Glenda Pierce and her husband, Jeff Kirkpatrick of Lincoln; Gaytha (Waters) Patterson and her husband, Robert of Centennial, Colorado; and Janet (Stineman) Kres and her husband, Mark of Austin, Texas; and two nephews:&nbsp; Bob Pierce of Omaha; and Harry Waters and his wife, Linda of Kansas City, Kansas.

 </figure>Lois Jean High, 95 years of age, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Kearney, Nebraska, and Bertrand, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at the Tabitha Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln.&nbsp; Jean was born on May 7, 1925, on the family farm, a few miles southwest of Loomis, Nebraska, the daughter of John A. and Margaret Agnes (Piska) Pierce.&nbsp; She was baptized as an infant on December 6, 1925. Her father called her Jean or Jeanie, the reason she was known by her middle name most of her life.Education was always important to Jean. She attended the Urbana School District, southeast of Bertrand, through eighth grade and then Bertrand High School, graduating in 1942. As an eighth grader, she received the second highest score in the Phelps County exams, which at the time, were required from those attending country school before entering high school.&nbsp; During high school, she and her sister Mary Lou, lived in town during the week where they rented a room and would go home on weekends.&nbsp; She participated in musical activities; playing a horn in the band, singing in several vocal ensembles, and in particular, as an alto, in very talented girl’s sextet, who sang at a national contest in Omaha, Nebraska.&nbsp; Later in her retired life, while living in Kearney, she enrolled in several classes at Kearney State College.Following her high school graduation, Jean worked several jobs, including:&nbsp; as a switchboard operator at St Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lincoln; an assistant cashier for the Bank of Bertrand; a bookkeeper for Kingsley Lumber Yard; and perhaps of greatest historical interest to her family, popping corn at the local movie theater on Friday and Saturday evenings (which directly led to meeting her future husband, Lloyd).&nbsp; Her primary jobs after marriage, were full-time duties as a homemaker, raising four children on the family farm.&nbsp; She also had excellent clerical skills, working at the Bertrand Herald as a linotype operator, as well as typing and proofreading documents.On March 19, 1950, Jean was united in marriage to Lloyd Reynold High at the First United Methodist Church in Bertrand.&nbsp; The couple made their home on the family farm southwest of Bertrand.&nbsp; God blessed this union with four children:&nbsp; Mary Louise, Robin, Kathleen, and Marcia. Jean focused on raising their children and worked alongside Lloyd on the farm. They encouraged their children to study music; both within the public school and with piano lessons, and to grow in the Christian faith.Church membership and activities were very important her entire life. Jean’s Welsh grandfather, Robert S. Pierce, founded the Urbana Congregational Church, about ten miles southeast of Bertrand, where they attended, when she was young. Later, they attended the Methodist Church in Loomis, and then attended the Bertrand Methodist Church when she was in high school, where she retained her membership until her marriage to Lloyd.&nbsp; With this direct connection to a full Swede, she knew immediately that her new church home would be Lutheran.They were faithful members at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand for 35 years.&nbsp;&nbsp; After Lloyd retired from farming, they moved to Kearney, where they began their membership at First Lutheran Church in 1985. In 2012, Jean began to make her home in Lincoln.Jean will be remembered for many reasons, in particular, how she cared for the family farm; including the presence of many colorful flowers beds and a full garden. She and Lloyd frequently made trips to Camp Carol Joy Holling near Ashland, Nebraska, in its early years, to help with landscaping and other improvement projects. Renae Evangeline McCrory, 72 years of age, of Bel Aire, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on March 13, 1948, in Winfield, Kansas to Edd and Evangeline Ruth “Van” (Johnson) Carlson.

She received her education at Winfield Public School, graduating from Winfield High School with the class of 1966. She then pursued higher education at St. John’s College in Winfield, where she received her Associates Degree.

Renae was employed as the receptionist for the Kansas Highway Patrol for over 22 years, where she enjoyed her position and made many friendship bonds throughout the years. In her spare time, Renae enjoyed baking, and was especially fond of making cookies.

She was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp; 

Renae is survived by her sons: Ryan and Thad McCrory; grandsons: Jason and Jeffrey McCrory; brother, Bruce Carlson and his wife, Kirsten; nephew, Scott Carlson; niece, Kara Carlson and her husband, Michael Hauber; great-nephew, Felix Hauber; and a host of other family and friends.

A private family graveside service and interment for Renae E. McCrory will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Agapita Ibarra Deescalante, 85, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Agapita was born January 23, 1935, at Suchil, Durango, Mexico to Martin and Julia (Rodriguez) Ibarra.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to J. Refugio and to this union three children were born: Gabriel, Maria and J. Refugio, jr. They made their home in Mexico, where she devoted her time caring for her family and homemaking.&nbsp; After the passing of her husband she moved to Lexington, Nebraska in 2001 to be closer to family.

Agapita was a faithful member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington. Praying the rosary was very important to her; she loved planting her roses in her flower garden and watching birds.&nbsp; Her family, church, and faith were always an important part of her life. Agapita has left a tremendous legacy of love, and faith to her family.

She leaves to celebrate her life; her children, Gabriel Escalante (Lourdes Tirado) of Lexington, J. Refugio (Maria) Escalante of Elgin, Illinois and Maria E. Escalante (Rafael Frayre) of Fort Worth, Texas; ten grandchildren, Roberto, Sandra, Daniel, Alan, Denisse, Adrian, Ivan, Monica, Adhali and Helen; two great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Eri; also survived by brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Agapita Ibarra Deescalante (1935-2020

Janeen Kay Hedke passed away Tuesday evening, May 12, 2020 at the Great Plains Health Hospital in North Platte, NE at the age of 69. She was born August 31, 1950 in Locust, IA to Dale and Norma (Hovey) Barth. Janeen went on to live her early adult life in Decorah, IA where she raised her children, John and Jackie.

Janeen married Charles F. Hedke on December 27, 1981 in Decorah, IA. They would later move to Atwood, KS where they owned a business for many years while eventually settling in Trenton, NE.

Janeen obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing on May 5, 1995 from the University of Nebraska. As a Registered Nurse, Janeen worked at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ, the Community Hospital of McCook, NE, and the Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman, NE.

Janeen loved attending Huskers football games with her husband, baking with her grandchildren, shopping, pampering her dogs, riding her horse. She cherished her time spent with her family friends and looked forward to their phone calls when apart.

Janeen is preceded in death by her father, Dale Barth; stepfather, William Schrandt; infant grandson, Drew.

Janeen is survived by her loving husband, Chuck Hedke; mother, Norma Schrandt; stepmother, Audrey Barth; two brothers, David (Cathey) Barth, Daniel (Tammy) Barth; two children John (Lori) McKernan, Jacquelyn (Robert) Sanford; two stepchildren, Michael (Nancy) Hedke, Brenda (Forrest) Sieger; seven grandchildren Jazmin, David, Alarie, Jaylen, Amanda, Alivia and MacKenzie; and two great grandchildren, Amari and Isaac.

Loree Mae Thomsen, 89, of Gothenburg died May 14th, 2020 at Gothenburg Health in Gothenburg.&nbsp;

Loree was born in Lexington Nebraska January 31, 1931 to Frank and Ruth (Melosh) Kolb. The family lived in Parks, NE where Frank was superintendent of Parks Schools. Loree loved playing marbles in the dirt and climbing trees, she was a true tomboy. The family moved to Gothenburg her sixth grade year where she attended school and graduated at age 17. She then attended Saint Lukes in Denver CO in the field of Nursing; she graduated with an RN and special training in visiting Nurse and Pediatrics.&nbsp;

Loree met and married Master Sergeant (MSG) Henry Earl Agent in January 1950. They moved to Camp Chaffy, Arkansas where 2 of their children were born. Earl Junior Agent and Carol Ann (Agent) Cross. They later moved to Japan where Sherie (Agent) Bierma was born. Loree enjoyed the culture and collected beautiful Japanese dolls and art work. After Japan, the family lived in San Antonio Texas and Fort Knox Kentucky. Tragically Loree’s Husband Henry passed away in 1963. Loree moved to Gothenburg where her parents and friends lived.&nbsp;

Loree married Harry Wayne Thomsen of Farnam NE, in January of 1973. Loree enjoyed farm life. Loree and Wayne moved to Gothenburg after the both retired. Loree worked as director of Head Start program, secretary for the principal of the school and as an RN for the Hospital. Loree also served on the Hospital Board for 12 years. Loree was a member of the Gothenburg United Methodist church. She was involved in many women's groups including PEO chapter AW, she could often be found playing bridge, also helped with Meals on Wheels delivery, Loree enjoyed crocheting.&nbsp; Wayne and Loree loved Nebraska Football and attended the majority of the home games for over 20 years.&nbsp; &nbsp;Loree loved to travel as well. Her husband Wayne passed away in 1999.&nbsp;

Survivors include Earl and Jonell Agent of Topeka, Kansas; Carol and Deloit Cross of Moorefield, Nebraska; Sherie and Mark Bierma of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sister Marilyn Erlandson of Lincoln Nebraska; along with extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Tuesday, May 19, 2020, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Services will be held at Gothenburg Cemetery, May 19, 2020 at 2:00 pm open to the public (please be aware of Social Distancing at the Cemetery, keeping 6ft from those that do not live in the same house as you)

Burial will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Loree Mae Thomsen (1931-2020

Sharon Rose Dimmitt, 78, of Gandy, NE passed on May 14, 2020 at Great Plains Health.

She was born on June 14, 1941 on the family ranch north of Mullen, NE to Enoch and Etta (Sweet) McIntosh.

Sharon was united in marriage to Richard “Bud” Dimmitt on June 14, 1963 at Mullen, NE. The family then lived north of Mullen until 1970 when they moved to Gandy, NE with their two children to start the family farm.

She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Robin and John Myers of North Platte, NE; son, Dale Dimmitt of North Platte; grandchildren, Kim Dustin (Corrine, Bo (Alli) and Devin; great grandchildren, Austin, Preslee, Dace; a brother and wife, Lloyd and Shirley McIntosh, of Thedford.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Bud”; her parents; and a brother, Wendell McIntosh.

Sharon Rose Dimmitt (1941-2020

Shirley M. Matson, age 88, passed away May 13, 2020 at North Platte Care Center.

She was born August 4, 1931 to Carl and Helen Shirley (Spencer) Ekstrum in Stratton, NE, at the home homestead by her grandfather.&nbsp; Shirley graduated from the University School of Agriculture/Curtis with the class of “48”.

Shirley was baptized in the Frenchman River with the Church of Christ in Hamlet, NE.

She married Harold L. “Hoot” Osterhoudt in 1951 and later divorced.

In 1971, Shirley was united in marriage to Frank Matson and she became a step mother to Charles, Kenneth and Harold.

She taught school for two years in Hitchcock County.&nbsp; She was the owner/ operator with her husband, Hoot, in Graceland Market, H&amp;S Milling, Feeders Service &amp; Supply and she worked at Mr. Automotive and the Chamber of Commerce.

Shirley is survived by her son, Mike (Shelly) of North Platte; Two step sons, Charles (Sandra) and Harold (Chris) both of North Platte; a grandson, Jake; step grandchildren, Frank, Jarad, Ashleigh and Trevor; and great granddaughters, Maleah, Tatiana and Aleena.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Harold and Frank; a brother, Carlos Ekstrum; and a stepson, Kenneth Matson.

Cremation was chosen. A private family graveside service will be held at Hitchcock County Cemetery, one mile from where Shirley was born.

Shirley M. Matson (1931-2020

Ted Meredith Mills passed away May 14, 2020 from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Ravenna, Nebraska. 

He was born June 12th, 1932 on a family farm near Westerville, Nebraska to Frank and Bertha Mills. His early education was completed at Cherryvale and Copsey country schools in Custer county Nebraska. He graduated in 1949 from Westerville High School. He enrolled at Kearney State College and after completing one year he taught for a term at Hanna Corner country school in Custer county. He was then drafted into the Army during the Korean War and served with the Occupational Forces in Germany from 1953 to 1955. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to Kearney State where he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1958. 

On August 10th, 1958, he was united in marriage to Elaine Mesloh and together they had three sons, Jerry, Stanley and Bradley. The family was also blessed to have their uncle Randy Mesloh join the family in 1967. In 1964 he received his Master’s Degree in Education at the University of Wyoming, Laramie. For the next 27 years he was employed as a teacher and coach in several Nebraska communities including Sutherland, Red Cloud, Blue Hill, Hebron and Holdrege. He taught social studies, driver’s education, biology and coached basketball, wrestling, track and most notably, football. In 1981 he retired from coaching and became the principal at Holdrege Jr. High School. In 1984 he moved to Worland Wyoming to join his wife and became the Worland Jr. High School principal. His final three years of being an educator ended as the Pender High School principal and athletic director in Pender, Nebraska. In 1992, he and Elaine retired to Buffalo Wyoming.

In addition to being a devoted husband and father, Ted will be most remembered for being a teacher and high school football coach. &nbsp;For 17 years, he touched the lives of many boys in schools across the state and helped them to develop mental, physical toughness and character on the football field. As head coach of the Hebron Bears, he guided them to state championship ratings in 1969 and 1970 with his nephew Randy as the quarterback. As head coach of the Holdrege Dusters, he guided several players to walk-on or receive athletic scholarships from the Nebraska Cornhuskers program. All three of his boys participated in football, wrestling and track. He also influenced many students in the classroom as a high school biology teacher. Many remember him as ‘BioTed.’ His sense of humor and storytelling were legendary. His life story would be incomplete without revisiting the phrase he frequently used in the locker room before a football game where he instructed his boys to ‘Show ‘em how the hogs ate the cabbage!!’

During his retirement years in Buffalo Wyoming he stayed active as he enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing, exercising, playing pitch and following his beloved Huskers. He and Elaine frequently returned to Nebraska to watch his grandchildren participate in sports and theater. In 2007 he was honored by the University of Nebraska at Kearney with induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Ted and Elaine returned to Nebraska in 2010 to be closer to family.

He is survived by his loving wife Elaine, of Broken Bow, Nebraska. Three boys Jerry Mills (Caron) of Cocoa, Florida, Stanley Mills of Libby, Montana, Bradley Mills of Lincoln, Nebraska and brother-in-law Randy Mesloh (Lynn) of Hebron, Nebraska. He is also survived by two brothers Wayne Mills (Marvel) of Broken Bow, Nebraska, Paul Mills of Broken Bow, Nebraska and sister Sylvia Happold of Grand Island, Nebraska. Ted was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. His mother and father Frank and Bertha, brothers Harry and Dana preceded him in death.

Ted Meredith Mills (1932-2020

Ronald Joseph Ripp passed unexpectedly, on May 9, 2020 near Salida, Colorado, while pursuing his passion of the great outdoors.

Ron was born in Kearney, Nebraska, on July 1, 1953, the fourth of nine children of Gerald Charles and Catherine (Kriha) Ripp, coming home to the family farm (Buffalo County, TWP 26-11-15, joining sisters Judy, Janet &amp; brother Terry in the growing Ripp Family and was followed by five more brothers; Steve, Don, Scott, Mark and Tim.

Ronald nicknamed “Tub”, at a young age, was a busy boy, loving all things dirt, outdoors, inventing, farming, and mechanical fixing.&nbsp; His family was active in St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Prairie Center, where Ron served as an altar boy.

Ron attended Poole (District 60) School from Kindergarten to 8th&nbsp;grade.&nbsp; He remained close to his cousins, friends, and neighbors of that close-knit community, where he was involved with 4-H and baseball.&nbsp; Ron attended Ravenna High School, graduating RHS with the Class of 1971.&nbsp; He was very active in FFA, a wrestling standout and football athlete.&nbsp; Ron was a member of the Ravenna High School 1968-69 – Unscored Upon, Unbeaten &amp; Unranked Football Team, which was inducted into the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame in 2000.

After high school, Ron joined siblings Janet &amp; Terry in Lincoln, where he attended the University of Nebraska, earning a BS in Ag Education in 1975.&nbsp; With several kids attending UNL, Jerry &amp; Kay purchased the infamous Ripp House on North 24th&nbsp;Street.

Ron taught Ag Education in Broken Bow from 1975-1980.&nbsp; He was always proud of his students and their accomplishments, maintaining contact with many throughout his life.&nbsp; Ron coached the qualifying Broken Bow High School FFA National Range Judging team.

In 1979, Ron started his own construction business “Ron Ripp Construction”. Ron Ripp Construction built residential, commercial, and agricultural projects in and around Broken Bow and Central Nebraska for the past 40 years. Ron employed numerous people over the years including brothers, nephews, and grandsons.

On February 19, 1993, Ron &amp; K Janelle Worley Eacker, were married in Broken Bow.&nbsp; He became stepfather to her children – Robb, Charlie, Brandon, Presha &amp; Tammy.&nbsp; Ron guided them with his calm, common sense, &amp; pragmatic values, while supporting Janelle in every way.&nbsp; Ron loved being a grandpa. He was always willing to help his stepchildren with anything from car repairs, home repairs, and watching the grandkids.

Ron was a passionate outdoorsman.&nbsp; Fishing annually for many years, at Peterson’s Cornhusker Camp on Lac la Ronge Saskatchewan, Canada, dipping a line in the Yellowstone River, or lazy afternoons at Sherman Lake.&nbsp; Ron always had a fishing pole in the truck, just in case.&nbsp; Hunting too, was a priority, it could be snapping turtles for the annual Ripp Christmas turtle soup, elk, deer, geese, or game birds, he loved the hours spent with family &amp; friends fishing, hunting, and camping.&nbsp; For over 35 years, he enjoyed elk hunting in the Colorado Rockies, with his brothers and friends.&nbsp; He served as one of the “camp commanders”, cooking up his tasty Dutch oven cobbler each night, so that the men had dessert after their big day of hunting.&nbsp; He could often be found at the camp, carving wood canes from the unique huckleberry branches he gathered.

Ron was active in his community of the Broken Bow area, through Ron Ripp Construction and individually.&nbsp; He supported many projects and was always ready to give time, talent, and energy, including One Box Hunt, Broken Bow Fire Department, St Joseph Catholic Church, Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, NRA, Pheasants Forever, and Youth Hunts
