NORTH PLATTE - Great Plains Health in North Platte is offering a free Osteoporosis screening this Saturday, Oct. 21st from 8am - 12pm. The event is taking place at the Great Plains Health Conference Center in North Platte. The event is for anyone over the age of 50 and no registration is required.

NORTH PLATTE - &nbsp;The North Platte city council held their regular meeting on October 17th and their were different discussion points on the agenda that was discussed amongst the council. This meeting type items featured a $4.5&nbsp; application to the federal government for housing, public safety building process, ordering ambulance, and more.

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Marcus Taylor about the upcoming Trevin Jeffs &amp; Travis Roberts Benefit event this upcoming Saturday.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Trevin Jeffs and Travis Roberts Benefit will be taking place this Saturday from 12pm - 2pm at Budke Powersports in North Platte. The event is a chili feed and silent auction with a variety of auction items being donated from business around the community. The event is $10 per person. All proceeds will go to the families of Jeffs and Roberts.&nbsp;

Jeffs and Roberts were both injured in a motorcycle accident on Oct. 8th. Both riders sustained broken bones and other injuries. Jeffs and Roberts are a part of a group of riders here in North Platte and the idea of the benefit came during a discussion in the riders group chat. This will be one of several benefits for these gentlemen.&nbsp;

The two riders sustained severe injuries from the wreck and all proceeds collected at the benefit will go to the riders' families. "All the proceeds are going to be split evenly between the families to help cover these medical expenses and some of the expenses to get back and forth between here and Omaha where both of these gentlemen are currently recovering at," said Marcus Taylor.&nbsp;

Smith recaps the FNBO Chili Cook-Off and gives us a more in-depth looking into Mid-Plains United Way. Hipp talks about the mentoring program at the Community Connections&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Mid-Plains United Way kicked off their 2023-2024 campaign with the 28th Annual FNBO Chili Cook-Off. For this year's event, over 240 people attended and almost $4,000 was raised. The event this year raised $500 more than last year.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mid-Plains United Way supports 11 non-profits and serves in a 16-county region. "The non-profits provide services and programs that improve education and health and finical stability for people in need," said Mid-Plains United Way Executive Director Haven Smith.&nbsp;

One of these organizations that is supported by the Mid-Plains United Way is Community Connections of Lincoln County. Community Connections is a non-profit that matches youths with mentors. Many of the youths will be matched up with mentors that have very similar skill sets.&nbsp;

Teammates is another program that matches youth with mentors. However, Community Connections has a slightly different approach than Teammates. "Well just that, you know (Teammates) school based, there meeting at the school at a set time each week. There are kids who need maybe some mentoring outside of the school," said Mentoring Coordinator Angela Hipp. "We think the relationship can really flourish when they are able to go do that."&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE – The 21st annual G.R.E.E.N. fundraising event for the North Platte Catholic Schools is planned for Saturday, October 21st at St. Patrick High School. Generating Resources for Educational Excellence Now is the largest single event of the year for the North Platte Catholic Schools Endowment Trust, which works year-round to generate around $600,000 for McDaid and St. Patrick’s schools.&nbsp; 

Endowment Director Wendy Dodson says that this year’s event will feature all of the things that supporters have loved about G.R.E.E.N. over the years… A delicious meal, an online silent auction, Heads or Tails game, Lucky Lotto drawing, live auction, and Spirit Wagon raffle. Plus, guests may also try their hand at the Wall of Wine and the Wall of Whiskey and enjoy some fun entertainment with the Polka Police.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dodson says that since the G.R.E.E.N. event began in 2003, it has generated over $2.1 million dollars in&nbsp; support of the North Platte Catholic Schools. These funds have been used to establish a teacher&nbsp; retirement fund, support general operations of McDaid and St. Patrick’s, fund school improvement&nbsp; projects and technology, and to provide tuition assistance for families.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Rock Church in North Platte is hosting their annual RocktoberFest this Saturday beginning at 5:30 at the Rock Church. The event will have family friendly activities, chili and cinnamon rolls, live music, pumpkin painting, and so much more. The event is free for anyone to attend.&nbsp;&nbsp;

This event initially started off as a chili cookoff before being switched to something fun and new. "It started out as a chili cookoff in our church, and we wanted to show North Platte how much we love our community," said Rock Church Senior Pastor Vaughn Fahrenbruck. "Were very for North Platte, very for our community and decide let's open it up to the entire city." The Rock Church wanted to find ways to expand their chili cookoff and get the community involved and that's how RocktoberFest was created. "We wanted to make it as a popup pumpkin patch and let's make it fun and let's make it free," said Vaughn.&nbsp;

The shelter wants to invite local businesses, emergency personnel services, or just anyone who wants to form a team and take part in the challenge. The Connection Shelter would like to have business show off their boxes from November 13th-16th which is Hunger/Homeless Awareness Month. The final day of the event is November 16th at Brigham's Taproom where the teams can show off their box and have members vote for who has the best box. There is a registration fee of $200 per team.&nbsp;

Post news director Canon Rath chatted with NPCC softball coach Janelle Higgins and Jada Florom about the Haunted Corn Maze that begins this weekend and runs through October.

NORTH PLATTE - The NPCC Softball team is excited to host the Haunted Corn Maze for the second straight year. Last year brought many screams as participants went through the maze. This is the 14th year of doing a fundraiser in October but 2nd year of the Haunted Maze.

The maze runs from 8:00pm -11:00pm on October 7th, 14th, 20th, 21st, 27th, 28th and of course on Halloween. The event cost $10 to get in the event. All proceeds go back to the softball program. If you would like to learn more about the event, check out the podcast above.

NORTH PLATTE - The 28th Annual Chili Cook-Off hosted by First National Bank of Omaha fundraiser event is set for October 6th from 11:30am - 1:30pm in the downtown parking lot of FNBO in North Platte. The event is the official kick off for the 2023-2024 Mid-Plains United Way campaign season.&nbsp;&nbsp;

FNBO is hosting the event while all the proceeds made from this event will go to Mid-Plain United Way. "This is the 28th annual and it's presented by First National Bank of Omaha and Mid-Plains United Way is super grateful for them (FNBO) to be hosting this for us," said Executive Director Haven Smith. "They provide the event and all the proceeds come back to Mid-Plains United Way." The money raised will be used to help support non-profit organizations in the region.&nbsp;

15 teams have signed up for this year's cook-off and it only cost $10 to get into the event. You can try all the chilis and see which team may have the best. The event is October 6th at the downtown FNBO parking lot from 11:30am - 1:30pm. The weather is looking more on the chilly side for Friday. NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte city council held their regular meeting on October 3rd and their were different discussion points on the agenda that was discussed amongst the council. A few discussion points including awarding the transportation staff for their help in the Sutherland Care Facility fire and Renee White for rookie of the year, water wells at the airport, action on ordinance 4137 (skill games), resolution for TIF at the new Murphy Tractor Site, and ordinance for sale of city industrial park lots.&nbsp;

A new water well is being built on property at the North Platte-Lee Bird Regional Airport to help improve water pressure and reliability on the east end of North Plate. "The water well will hook into the cities water system along Newberry Access on the east end of town," said North Platte Mayor Brandon Kelliher. "The water well will provide a little bit better water feed to the east end of town." With the new addition of the water well being built along Newberry Access, this will help serves the new industrial developments along Newberry Access.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The last week of September is dedicated as National Employee Older Workers Week and the week encourages employers to hire older workers to join their team. The Nebraska Department of Labor is always offering programs for workers 55 and older who want to get back into the work field. The Nebraska Department of Labor offers what's called the Senior Community Service Employment Program. The program is targeted at workers who are 55 and older, are unemployed and maybe looking to start a new career path. The program runs year-round but is limited spots.&nbsp;

If you are interested in joining the Senior Community Service Employment Program, you can contact the Nebraska Department of Labor office at (308)-535-8320 or you can go to their office building in North Platte. NORTH PLATTE - The Lincoln County Raceway is hosting their first ever Valve Cover Races on October 28th. The event geared towards a driver teaming up with 4-5 kids and competing in the races. The drivers will be the kid's mentors throughout the whole event from getting together to working on getting ready for the valve cover races and being a role model for their team.&nbsp;

Kids will receive a T-Shirt with their name and team name on it that they can wear to the day of the races. It is free for kids to participate in the event. Registration ends on October 1st. The approval of fireworks for the North Platte Public Schools was granted, Ty Lucas also talks about user fees, another discussion was the housing problem in North Platte, and finally Lucas gave his perspective from the Union Pacific rail car that caught on fire last Thursday.&nbsp;

OGALLALA, NEB. - The Ogallala Regional Arts Council is getting ready to kick off their season of performances beginning with a concert coming up this Thursday, September 21st at 7:00 pm with Branden and James with Effie Passero. Branden and James are a cello and vocal due that travel around the United States and perform at concerts and events. Effie Passero is a singer who joins Branden and James at times when performing at events and concerts.&nbsp;

The event is taking place at the Ogallala Performing Arts Center. Tickets for the event cost $15 for adults and $7 for students. If you already purchased a membership, that would get you into the show. Memberships for the Ogallala Regional Arts Council will be sold at the show. Post News Director Canon Rath talked with Prairie Arts Center Executive Holly Carlini about the upcoming tailgate taking place this Saturday during the Nebraska V.S. Louisiana Tech game.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Prairie Arts Center will be holding its last ever football tailgate this Saturday when Nebraska takes on Louisiana Tech. The annual tailgate takes place in the parking lot on the big screen. The event which started during the 2017 spring game has been a big hit for the PAC. As time moves forwards, so does yearly events but the PAC wants this tailgate to go out with a bang.&nbsp;

Teams will be competing against one another to take home the top prize. The event begins at 2:00 pm central and tickets are $10. Bring a lawn chair to the event. There will be items auctioned off during the event. For more information about the tailgate, check out the podcast above. The Prairie Arts Center is open Tuesday - Saturday from 11am - 4pm. The event is to help raise money for folks in the western part of the state with their battle with cancer. The event will feature a prime rib dinner and two complimentary drink tickets that can be used for beer or wine.&nbsp;

There will also be auctions of items throughout the evening. The schedule is looking like this: 5:00pm is Social Hour, 6:00pm is dinner, with the auction to follow. North Platte/Sandhills Post News Director Canon Rath caught up with 4-H'er Ezri Bay and 4-H Youth Development Extension Educator Caitlyn Jacobson about the 4-H Dog Skillathon category.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - 4-H is America's largest youth development program across the United States that helps learn skills that will last a lifetime. The age requirement for 4-H is the ages of 8-18. There are many different categories that 4-H'ers can participate in during their time in the program. A unique category is Dog Skillathon.&nbsp;

The Dog Skillathon contest is an opportunity that 4-H'rs can patriciate and test their knowledge of dogs. "It's a giant mess test and it's kind of interesting and so you walk in this big room and there's a whole bunch of tables with different activities," said 4-H'er Ezri Bay. "They hand you a test and you go to one of the tables and at each table there's like questions and photos that go with you questions and you have to answer those."&nbsp;

Podcast - Ogallala Indian Summer Rendezvoux next week

North Platte Post News Director Canon Rath caught up with Father Jonathon Sorenson and Jory Torress about the upcoming St. Patrick's Church Block Party Weekend as the event is this Saturday and Sunday.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The St. Patricks Church in North Platte is hosting a Block Party this Saturday and Sunday at the church which is located at&nbsp;415 N Chestnut St in North Platte. The event, which is a rebranding of the BBQ, will have an adult setting for Saturday while Sunday is the family friendly day.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Saturday's event, which is set up for adults, will be a relaxed evening while folks can enjoy adult beverages and a nacho bar to enjoy. "We are going to have a beer garden, that will be a cash beer garden and a free will donation nacho bar," said Jory Torress. "We really just want to get everybody together and show the community that you can go to church and enjoy a drink responsibly with your parishioners and community."&nbsp;

Sunday will be geared towards the family friendly atmosphere and have plenty for everyone of all ages to enjoy Sunday's event. "On Sunday, we felt strongly having different events for all ages," said Torress. "It's hard to do creating events for all ages because high schoolers have different interest than toddlers." High schoolers will also be playing the role of helping run some of the events during Sunday's family day.&nbsp;

The event, which is a rebranding of the BBQ, will have an adult setting for Saturday while Sunday is the family friendly day.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>Saturday's event, which is set up for adults, will be a relaxed evening while folks can enjoy adult beverages and a nacho bar to enjoy. "We are going to have a beer garden, that will be a cash beer garden and a free will donation nacho bar," said Jory Torress. "We really just want to get everybody together and show the community that you can go to church and enjoy a drink responsibly with your parishioners and community."&nbsp;</p><figure>

                    </figure><p>Sunday will be geared towards the family friendly atmosphere and have plenty for everyone of all ages to enjoy Sunday's event. "On Sunday, we felt strongly having different events for all ages," said Torress. "It's hard to do creating events for all ages because high schoolers have different interest than toddlers." North Platte Post News Director Canon Rath sat down with North Platte Public Schools Foundation Executive Director Terri Burchell and discussed Dress Down for North Platte Public Schools, Change Wars Battle for Education, and the Backyard BBQ.&nbsp; &nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE – The North Platte Public Schools Foundation has a lot of fun events coming up with Dress Down for North Platte Public Schools which has officially kicked off. The shirts do cost $30, however $20 will be donated to the school of your choice. The deadline to get shirts is this Sunday. If you would like to purchase a shirt,<a href="https://www.nppsf.org/"> click here.&nbsp;</a>

Also, what's going on starting September 13th – September 30th is change wars battle for education. Students can bring change to school to participate in the event but also if you would like to donate you can head over to First Interstate Bank and specify what school you would like to donate to. You can also donate online. Teachers will be competing against one another during this competition.&nbsp;

These fun events lead up to the backyard BBQ on September 22nd before North Platte takes on Kearney High. The backyard BBQ is a friendly competition between community members. The event will feature different types of BBQ meat. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for students but it does include a drink with the meal. Proceeds will go to the Prepared to Learn Fund and Reach Grants which goes back to teachers,&nbsp;
