NORTH PLATTE, NEB – The 2023 Nebrasklanad Days has officially kicked off and one of the most anticipate events, the Buffalo Bill Rodeo is fast approaching. Rodeos are a fun sport to watch, but rodeo clowns have taken off as humor acts during these events. This year, the Buffalo Bill Rodeo is excited to welcome back John Harrison as he is this year's rodeo clown. This is Harrison third trip to North Platte. “I realized pretty quick that not all rodeos had specialty acts, almost every rodeo had a Barrelman,” said John Harrison, Buffalo Bill Rodeo Clown. “If I was going to stay busy and making a living in rodeo, I was going to need to adapt and start doing comedy.” The Buffalo Bill Rodeo is going on June 14th through June 17th. CASA wants to help kids find the right way in life and volunteers spend time with that to help guide them. “CASA is a tool to help the children that are experiencing this trauma, get to the next phase and hopefully move&nbsp;towards homeless,” said Elizabeth Dyches. The group is always looking for volunteers to join the group. Canon Rath talked with North Platte St. Pats Cheer Coach Lisa Trosynki and Dance Coach Julia Harrach about how Skills USA, Strutters Dance Team and the St. Pat’s Cheerleaders will be working the concession stand at NEBRASKALand Days.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB – NEBRASKAland Days is almost upon is and the two weeklong festivals always have plenty of opportunities to raise money through fundraisers. This year at all four rodeos, both concerts, and Taps and Toons, the North Platte St. Pat’s will be running those concession stands. The three groups that are involved with running the concessions stands are Skills USA, Strutters Dance Team, and the St. Pat’s Cheerleaders. 

The organizations that are involved with helping run concession stands can all be beneficial with the money they raise. A big issue that has come up is that these groups must pay for their uniforms and at times travel expenses can be costly. All three groups have similar but different uses for the funds that are raised. &nbsp;

For the dance and cheer teams, they have to purchase their uniforms. “Each program even though they are school sponsored, they still encore expenses that the school can’t cover,” said North Platte St. Pat’s Strutter Dance Coach Julia Harrach “Like uniform expenses, every cheerleader and dancer own their own uniform that they have to pay for themselves.” Uniform expenses can always be a tough challenge to pay for. These fundraiser events are important to help these three organizations raise funds for their programs.&nbsp;

Mid-Plains United Way Radiothon - Donate to Nebraska Youth Center

Canon Rath talked with North Platte Mayor Brandon Kelliher about different discussions points during the June 5th, 2023, North Platte City Council Meeting.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB – The June 5th North Platte City Council meeting has come and gone and there were many topics on the agenda. Some of the highlight agenda would feature technology changes, interlocal agreements between the city of North Platte and Lincoln County, series of public hearings on West State Farm Road and East State Farm Road, and Merrill appointments. 

All city council meetings are streamed through YouTube and outdated technology can be an issue. “Couple things we have talked about over the last year in fact if not longer is the audio and visual equipment inside the city council chamber and it’s kind of old and needs to be replaced,” said North Platte Mayor Brandon Kelliher. “We had some issues with it, it’s probably been about two months ago now and just barely found the parts to get it to work. Derek Beck talked with Stephanie Reed from the Ogallala Rotaract about the Keith County Big Give event and how money that is raised can be helped to buy Christmas presents for families in need. &nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB – The Keith County Big Give event is underway, and the Ogallala Rotaract is fundraising money to help buy Christmas gifts for families in need. The organization adopted the caring and sharing program and the program is a don’t ask, don’t tell service that helps provide Christmas gifts for families in need. “If you were experiencing a financial hardship and don’t feel like you can provide gifts for your children that Christmas, we have set up an online form. Go fill that out, give us a couple of different gift ideas,” said Stephanie Reed. “We make sure no child goes without a gift Christmas time.” The event runs until June 15th and you can donate by going to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.keithcountybiggive.org/" target="_blank">https://www.keithcountybiggive.org</a> and click on Ogallala Rotaract. NORTH PLATTE, Neb - The first day of North Platte's Cody Park amusement rides is coming up this Friday, and for the 7th year in a row, Chad and Rhonda Fosdick and their company's Premier Rental, Glass Doctors and Mr. Appliance will offer the community Free Rides from 5-9pm Friday evening to kick off the summer at North Platte's largest park. Chad Fosdick says "we're all a tight knit family (Premier Rental, Glass Doctors, Mr. Appliance employees), but we vary rarely can all get together because we're all out working and helping customers." He says that "selfishly it's a way for us to all get together and do an event together, then you couple that with it's Cody Park free rides; it's even better."

In addition to the free rides, the Cody Park Concessions stand will be open with it's famous ice cream and Dusty Trails will be there with their petting zoo.
