NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The 2023 Hershey Fall Festival is coming up on August 26, 2023. The festival, which lasts all day, starts with a parade in the morning and will cap off with a concert at night. There are plenty of events throughout the day for families and folks to enjoy.&nbsp;

The festival is held by the Lions club every year and is a way the Lion's club gives back to the community. "The Hershey Fall Festival is our annual celebration out in Hershey, put on by the Hershey's Lions club and it's just our way to give back to the community and fundraiser for our club for the year," said Justin Petska. "We do a lot of different community improvement projects and help other non-profits with their projects."&nbsp;

This year, the parade which starts at 10:30 central time will kick off the event that starts on main street and ends at the park and there will be a free will donation prime rib feed that will begin at the park at the conclusion of the parade. Highlighting the concert will be Muscadine Bloodline and the concert will take place on main street where the stage will be set up by the railroad walkway. NORTH PLATTE, NEB – The 4th annual Big Idea North Platte is coming back to North Platte with the live event taking place October 18th, 2023, at Venue 304 in North Platte. The Big Idea North Platte 2023 event is an opportunity where community members can share their ideas, product, or event new business. It’s also a great way to earn prize money or scholarship money.&nbsp;

The North Platte Young Professionals are hosting the event. The North Platte Young Professionals strives to retain young leaders ages 21-40 in North Platte. “We are a subcommittee of the North Platte Area Chamber and Development corporation and North Platte Young Professionals, it's our mission to create and retain young leaders,” said North Platte Young Professional Committee Member Cassie Condon.&nbsp;

The Big Idea North Platte 2023 is a great opportunity for community members who want to pitch an idea, a product, or their own business. The competition lets folks compete against one another, but also shows the creativity that an individual can come up. “This event was created to give you an opportunity to network with professionals and provide educational value that is readily available outside your normal circles that you are talking too,” said Condon. “It’s a great way to get your idea out there and reviewed by local experts.”&nbsp;

Last year, the Big Idea event only hosted one category. At the time, youths ages 10-18, if they won, they would receive scholarship money for their idea. This year, the youth category is back sponsored by Mid Plains Community College. Winners in the youth category can earn themselves a scholarship. “We decided to put in some scholarships, so for that youth category we are giving away some great scholarships for students,” said North Platte Young Professional Committee Member Jacob Rissler. “We love being part of the economic development, retaining young professionals and also keeping great ideas in the community.” The youth category has three places you can win. Third place earns you $500, second place is $1,000, and first place is $2,500. The scholarship money can be used at Mid Plains North Platte campus, McCook’s campus, or any of Mid Plans community campuses. &nbsp;

The community category this year is being sponsored by Eagle Communication through the Schmidt Foundation. Just like last year, in honor of the Schmidt Foundation, Eagle Communications is donating a generous amount to this year's top three winners and to invest in the idea of members of the North Platte Community. “The Schmidt foundation has generously donated big prizes this year,” said North Platte Young Professional Committee Member Pat Jacobson. “Third place is $3,000, second place is $7,000, and the first-place winner is $10,000 plus marketing packages that Eagle will provide.”&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The Livin Out Loud Festival is rolling upon us fast. Livin Out Loud, which is heading into its 12th year, is the largest outdoor Christian festival that welcomes Christians from all around to Gothenburg for the two-day event. "We have the largest outdoor Christian festival ever year in Gothenburg about 15 - 20,000 people show up," said Koby Rickertsen. "It's a great deal for the area."&nbsp;

The event is free to the public. There will be plenty of artists that are performing during the event. Also, tons of food truck vendors will be there. Canon Rath talked with council president Jim Nisley as they recapped different topics from the July 18th, North Platte City Council meeting.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB – The July 18th North Platte City Council meeting has officially come and gone and there were different discussion points from the meeting. Some of the highlighted topic points featured consent appointments, property changes, annexation near the 2300 block of 18th street, changes to telecommunications, creating an occupation tax on the ownership of skills games, and lastly&nbsp;special presentations from students from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.&nbsp;

The council talked about some land on the northwest part of North Platte, that’s a block just adjacent to the North Platte community. During the meeting, there has been talk about possibly selling the land. “There is some interest in possibly selling that lot and maybe have that developed and its generally a practice if the property&nbsp;is adjacent to the community and if they want to be made improvements or developed,” said Council President Jim Nisley. “We have nixed that property and it’s a proper processor to do and it’s a good thing we will get some housing.”&nbsp;

Canon Rath talks with Lori Hansen about the Miracle League of Lincoln County event going on July 23rd as the Miracle League will be taking on the North Platte Plainsmen in a 2-inning exhibition game before the Plainsmen game against the Denver Cougars.

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The Miracle League of Lincoln County who have been playing all summer long get ready to match up with their next opponent, the North Platte Plainsmen this Sunday, July 29th at 3 pm. The Miracle League is a nonprofit, nationwide organization that helps special needs athletes play the sport of baseball. The Miracle League removes the barriers that keep children with mental and physical disabilities off the baseball field and lets them experience the joy of America’s favorite pastime. "The Miracle League of Lincoln County is our special needs baseball program, we started out as Buddy Ball several years ago and we have since revamped and became the Miracle League of Lincoln County," said Lori Hansen.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Before the Plainsmen game, there will be a two-inning exhibition game between the Miracle League and the Plainsmen. The Miracle League played against the FNBO Nationals senior team back on May 25th, and the Plainsmen were in attendance for the game. The Plainsmen invited the Miracle League for a 2-inning exhibition contest before Sunday's game.&nbsp;

Following the exhibition contest, the Miracle League athletes will be participating in different activities throughout the Plainsmen game. This includes joining the team for starting lineups, participating in the in between contest, and so much more.&nbsp;

The Plainsmen are donating a portion of ticket sales back to the Miracle League of Lincoln County. This is one of many fundraiser events the Miracle league is hosting to raise money for an adaptive field for their athletes to play their games on. “An adaptive field is completely different than a regular turf college size field so were super excited to have that in North Platte and use it for other sports besides baseball,” said Hansen.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The Lincoln County Fair is not far from us as the fair is scheduled July 26th-July 31st. The fair features many different events that can be enjoyable for everyone in the family. Amanda Carr is back on the podcast to discuss the concert, goat roping, and pig wrestling.

One of the most anticipated events this year is the pig wrestling contest. The event will be held in the evening but also will features teams of 4. Lake McConaughy Area Outdoor Report for week of July 10

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The Community Health Fair is going on this Friday and Saturday at North Platte Highschool. The health fair is heading into its second year after last year it was held for Hispanic focus healthcare fair. "As we look at this year our community continues to diversify, we thought it would be important to that up to the entire community especially focusing on minorities and underserved," said TinaMaria Fernandez. "We reached out to many other entities in the community, got everyone at the table and were throwing a large community health fair."&nbsp;

There are many services offered to families but a big goal that the health fair is committed to is helping families get their kids ready for school whether its a physicals, check up, or shots. "Our goal is to try and help them have a one stop shop to get enrolled for school," said Elizabeth Thayer. "We are looking for families who need vaccines, who need physicals for their kids, who need those pre offerings before they can enroll and then we are going to be able to get them enrolled right then at the high school."&nbsp;

The event is free to the public and offers a wide variety of activities to do as well. There will be educational presentations throughout the event, activities for the kids to do while they are waiting and they can earn free items. There will also be language access provided to non-English speakers. The event is at North Platte High School from Friday 4pm-7pm central time and Saturday 1pm - 3pm central time. NORTH PLATTE, NEB - La Feria de Salud Comunitaria se llevará a cabo este viernes y sábado en la North Platte Highschool.&nbsp; Este será el segundo año de la feria de saludo después de que el año pasado la feria fue enfocada en la atención médica de los Hispanos. "Mientras miramos este año, nuestra comunidad continúa diversificándose, pensamos que sería importante para toda la comunidad, especialmente centrándonos en las minorías y los desatendidos", dijo TinaMaria Fernandez. "Nos pusimos en contacto con muchas otras entidades de la comunidad, reunimos a todos en la mesa y organizamos una gran feria de salud comunitaria". NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The Lincoln County Fair is scheduled for the last week of July and time is ticking as we get closer to the events. Amanda Carr joins the podcast to talk about when animal showings begin, highlights a few events, and also talks about the Easton Corbin concert.

The Lincoln County Fair is a smaller fair in terms of not having a carnival however that's where the events and animal showing comes into play "We do have a smaller fair that's family orientated." said Amanda Carr. "We have a lot of things for the kids to do and everything is free for the kids."

Canon Rath talks with Josh and Alex Roberts about the upcoming 2nd Annual Royal Rumble that is going on tomorrow. July 8th at the D&amp;N Event Center in North Platte.

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - Amateur boxing is coming to North Platte tomorrow, July 8th as the 2nd Annual Royal Rumble event is happening at the D&amp;N Event Center. The event features boxers from the ages of 8 and up to participate in the Royal Rumble Event. "In amateur boxing, the youngest your allowed to compete at is 8 years old, so we are going to have 8 years old to up to some 20 year old's," said coach Josh Roberts. "There really is no oldest age to compete in amateurs, I've seen 40 year old's jump in the ring and do there thing."

Weigh ins for the event goes on from 10 am - 12 pm. The doors open at 2 pm and the fights start at 3 pm. Tickets are $10 for admission, 12 and under are $5, and finally 3 and under are free.

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The July 5th North Platte City Council meeting has officially gone by and there were a handful of different discussion points on the agenda. The meeting took place Wednesday due to the 4th of July falling on a Tuesday. Some of the highlighted discussion points include extraterrestrial line which has been discussed the past few weeks about extending the city out, deacons point development, and New Haven housing on west A.&nbsp;

The final reading of ordinance 4129 took place yesterday at the city council meeting and the extraterritorial line has been extended. "The final reading of the ordinance that extended the extraterritorial line for zoning here in North Platte and now we have extended that line out to the southwest area of North Platte," said North Platte Mayor Brandon Kelliher. "It goes a little further to the southwest to cover that potential housing development we have going on out there so the houses that are built out in that area will be required to follow city zoning."&nbsp;

Paxton Gordon sat down with North Platte Plainsmen owner Chuck Heeman to discuss upcoming events for the Plainsmen.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The North Platte Plainsmen second season is underway here in North Platte. The Plainsmen bring a family fun entertainment to North Platte with high quality baseball featuring college players from all around the United States, fun promotion nights, games for kids, and so much more. Chuck Heeman, owner of the Plainsmen, has been in the baseball business for a long time and knows how to bring family fun entertainment to the town.&nbsp;

For the second season, the Plainsmen have dealt with rain for a good chunk of the first half of the season. "I have never seen the spring rains go so long into June and it's really just thrown our schedule all over the place," said North Platte Plainsmen Owner Chuck Heeman. "It looks like we have some good summer weather coming, so 4th of July weekend is looking to be spectacular." So far this season, the Plainsmen have had a handful of postponements or games delayed/called due to the rain.&nbsp;

The North Platte Plainsmen are gearing to get the second half of their season underway. The team has many events comings that the family can enjoy. The Plainsmen also will be hosting a 4th of July game against the United States Military War Dogs. The War Dogs is a group of veterans who get together during the spring to train for the season and then travel around the United States playing Major, Minor, and Summer Colligate teams. The Plainsmen bring a family fun entertainment to North Platte with high quality baseball featuring college players from all around the United States, fun promotion nights, games for kids, and so much more. Chuck Heeman, owner of the Plainsmen, has been in the baseball business for a long time and knows how to bring family fun entertainment to the town.&nbsp;</p><p>For the second season, the Plainsmen have dealt with rain for a good chunk of the first half of the season. "I have never seen the spring rains go so long into June and it's really just thrown our schedule all over the place," said North Platte Plainsmen Owner Chuck Heeman. "It looks like we have some good summer weather coming, so 4th of July weekend is looking to be spectacular." So far this season, the Plainsmen have had a handful of postponements or games delayed/called due to the rain.&nbsp;</p><p>The North Platte Plainsmen are gearing to get the second half of their season underway. The team has many events comings that the family can enjoy. The Plainsmen also will be hosting a 4th of July game against the United States Military War Dogs. The War Dogs is a group of veterans who get together during the spring to train for the season and then travel around the United States playing Major, Minor, and Summer Colligate teams. NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The North Platte Student Council is hosting a 2 Man Golf Scramble July 7th at the Rivers Edge Golf Course with the proceeds going to the Royal Family Kids Camp. "This year, our proceeds are going to the Royal Family Kids Camp and this Royal Family Kids Camp is a program that serves elementary school aged foster children in the North Platte and surrounding area," said NPHS Student Council President Gracie Persinger.

The event cost $40 which includes a meal and golf. The meal includes a cheeseburger, chips, and a drink. The meal will be served from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. with the golf scramble to begin at 5 p.m. central time. You can register for the event by calling the Rivers Edge Golf Course 308-532-7550, or by going to the Rivers Edge Golf Course club house.&nbsp;

Canon Rath talked with North Platte Plainsmen Interns Sage Crane and Frankie Enna about their journey so far in North Platte and upcoming events the Plainsmen are hosting. &nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The North Platte Plainsmen season is underway. Coaches, players, and interns come from all round the United States to spend their summer in North Platte. While folks go to the games to watch the players in action, behind the scenes, interns are finding ways to create a great atmosphere at the Plainsmen's games. This season, the Plainsmen have 9 interns on their roster.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sage Crane, who is the stadium operations intern, is a Junior at Missouri Southern State University majoring in business management. She chose to come to North Platte this summer as the stadium operations internship to help her gain experience for her career path. "I wanted to look for an internship in the sports aspect of things because I really like the hospitality side of things as well," said Stadium Operations Intern Sage Crane. "So, stadium operations I feel like was a good fit for me so I can gain more experience and knowledge within my field of studies."&nbsp;

Frankie Enna, who is the social media intern, is also from Missouri Southern State University where she is a senior majoring in public relations and a minor in graphic designs. She is currently the student photography and helps assist social media pages for Missouri Southern. "I help assist with social media while my main job is photography over there (Missouri Southern), so that's what made me come over here and broaden my experience in social media," said Social Media Intern Frankie Enna.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The North Platte Plainsmen always have fun events going on for everyone to enjoy. They have a youth camp coming up June 27th - June 29th. NORTH PLATTE, NEB – The June 20th North Platte City Council meeting has come and gone, and the council went through their agenda. Some of the highlights from the council meeting included the second reading of ordinance 4129, which is a two-mile extension zone near State Farm RD and South Buffalo, what's going on during NebraskaLand Day’s, the jobs and housing situation in North Platte, and the relationship between supply and demand. &nbsp;

The reading of ordinance 4129, which is the two-mile extension zone around State Farm RD and South Buffalo RD was having its second reading since the June 5th city council meeting. The two-mile zone is roughly a two-mile circle around North Platte. “If you live in that area and build something new, you have to comply with the city's building standards” said North Platte Mayor Brandon Kelliher. “The reason we are doing this, is that there is a housing development being proposed on the edge of the two-mile zone and the two-mile zone would have cut right into the middle of it.”&nbsp;

Lake McConaughy Area Outdoor Report for week of June 19

Canon Rath talked with Runza owner Josh Catlett about the new Runza building located at E &amp; Jeffers Street in North Platte. &nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB – North Platte is the home of two Runza locations which are both owned by Josh Catlett. The location from B &amp; Jeffers has officially moved right up the road to E &amp; Jeffers. The brand-new building brings excitement to the community as it’s the home of a new Runza location. What brought Runza to town 35 years ago was the building at B &amp; Jeffers Street and it has served its purpose.&nbsp;

The new location offers easier access to the drive-through line and more parking in the lot. “The thing that’s going to be nice for the new building is the fact that the drive through lane, your car won’t be hanging out on the street,” said Runza Owner Josh Catlett. “The parking lot is going to be so much bigger and easier to get in and out of and so the convenience of it of the whole getting in and getting out and being safer.”&nbsp;

The new location at E &amp; Jeffers is open to the public through the drive-through lane only. The drive through lane is open during business hours of 10:30 am – 10:00 pm. The lobby should be open within the next few days. &nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB – The Prairie Arts Center in North Platte is a non-profit that offers many different opportunities during open studio, variety of classes, events, and&nbsp;different community events. With Nebraskaland Days going on in North Platte, the Prairie Arts Center has been hosting a competitive art show. The event goes on till June 24th.  &nbsp;

Taking classes is a great way to shape up your art skills or learn new skills. The Prairie Arts Center offers a wide variety of different classes you can take. The open studio has been a popular event that folks like to attend. Open studio is where you paint your own pottery since it's open ceramics. “Individuals from the public can come in at any time and don’t have to make a reservation for this like they do for some of our other classes,” said Holly Carlini, Executive Director. “They can come in and go to the third floor into the ceramics studio, pick out a piece of pottery, open to all ages which is really great.”&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, Neb - Miss Rodeo Nebraska 2024 will be announced this evening during the first night of the Hall of Fame Buffalo Bill Rodeo in North Platte. Due to illness, contestant Jessica Lange had to withdraw on Tuesday and wasn't able to participate in the style show and blind draw questioning part of the competition.

 JoSee Saults from Big Springs is the other Queen contestant. The 2024 Miss Teen Rodeo Nebraska will be announced at 1:30pm Wednesday at North Platte Community College. Miss Rodeo Nebraska 2024 will be announced during the rodeo this Wednesday night.

The interview is with JoSee Saults and Jessica Lange with Eagle's Tony Lama, recorded Monday morning.

NORTH PLATTE, NEB – The People's Family Health Services are committed to helping families have better outcomes in health and are committed to helping their safeguard for their wellbeing in the future. The WIC program offers to help families by supplying healthy foods, nutrition education, and referrals to other health agencies. “WIC is provided by the USDA and they help everybody that is lower income to have healthy foods so that everyone can be the healthiest they can be,” said Jodi Sonneman. “We do provide monthly benefits for healthy foods; we can help you learn about nutrition and what good foods to feed your kiddos and what to avoid.”&nbsp;
