NORTH PLATTE, NEB - It's that time again to talk about what is going on around the Prairie Arts Center in North Platte. With September rolling around, there are plenty of different activities, classes, and a new gallery in place. With time around the corner, the Prairie Arts Center is a busy time.&nbsp;

One thing that is new to the Prairie Arts Center is the new Sun and Shades gallery. The pieces of art in this gallery were created by the artist who received the invitation. "This was an invitational exhibit in our Erickson gallery, and we invited artists from across the state to participate in this gallery," said Prairie Arts Center Executive Director Holly Carlini. "We assigned them a task to either paint or draw or sculpt something either sun or shade related."&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The Kearney Evening of Wishes event is happening next Thursday from the Younes Conference Center in Kearney. Make A Wish Nebraska is celebrating 40 years of wishes. The 16th annual Gala is back to help fundraise money.&nbsp;

The event is to help fundraise money for kids wishes in the Make A Wish Greater Nebraska region. "All of the proceeds go to Greater Nebraska Wish Kids," said Courtney Hughbanks. "That includes all kids west of York County." So far this year, the Make A Wish Greater Nebraska has about 35 kids in the pipeline looking for wishes.&nbsp;

Canon Rath talked with Amy Parker and Tad Haneborg about the D&amp;N Event Center Shoe Drive.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The D&amp;N Event Center in North Platte is continuing their shoe drive they began back in July. Tomorrow from 2 pm - 4 pm central time. the shoe drive will host a drop off event where you can head over to the event center and drop off new or gently used shoes. You can drop off shoes at the southwest corner of the D&amp;N Event Center.&nbsp;

The purpose of the event is to fundraise for youth leagues but also send the shoes off to other countries. "The shoes are going to go to underdeveloped countries and help build micro businesses so these folks can establish financial stability in their communities by reselling these shoes," said Amy Parker.&nbsp;

The drop off event tomorrow is from 2pm - 4 pm in the southwest corner of the D&amp;N Event Center over by the orange tent and trailer. You can donate shoes till September 1st. NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The Sutherland Chamber of Commerce Makers Market Craft and Vendor Fair will be held August 27th in downtown Sutherland. This is the third year of the event with my returning vendors. The event is from 10am - 3pm central time.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The event will welcome many different vendors to the show and also still accepting registrations. "Right now we have right around 50 vendors, a few keep trickling in and we are accepting more but it will be just a great time," said Muriel Clark. "We have everything from home decor, to clothing, to leather goods, and everything in between."&nbsp;

The Make A Wish Kearney Evening of Wishes event is a fundraiser to raise more money for Make A Wish Greater Nebraska. "The funds from this particular event that's held in Kearney is for all kiddos from west of York County," said Courtney Hughbanks, Make A Wish Greater Nebraska Director of Development.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The 2023 North Platte Rail Days is just about upon us. The event, which is August 4th - August 6th, has plenty of events for all ages to enjoy. Some events you can possibly enjoy is the tour yard (however folks with VIP passes will have first access to the buses, after that what's left is what's available for tour rides), model train show, Tractors, Trucks, Trains and Planes will be going on Saturday from 11am-2pm, Taste of Nebraska, and so much more.&nbsp;

Rail Days will bring guests from all around the county and the world to North Platte for the three-day event. "We do a lot of preservations for this event, we know of at least 500-600 people coming from outside Nebraska," said Golden Spike Tower Executive Director Kirsten Parker. "We have 30 people coming from different countries that we know of." Throughout the entire event, it's estimated around that 1500 - 5000 guest will be in attendance.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Canon Rath talked with North Plate Mayor Brandon Kelliher about the August 1st city council meeting. The two recap some of the highlighted agenda.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The August 1st North Platte City Council meeting has officially come and gone and there were different discussion points from the meeting. Some of the main discussion points were appointments and reappointments to the CRA and Library board, inter local emergency management and agreements between North Platte Public Schools and the North Platte Rec Center, micro TIF applications, selection for a constructor manager for the industrial sewer plant and so much more.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The council discussed a inter local for emergency management services during their meeting. The city and Lincoln County have inter local agreements which means they share cost for services in common. "This one is for the emergency management services and that's the EMS system and the folks that do the emergency management, so the county and the city sharing that cost," said North Platte Mayor Brandon Kelliher.&nbsp;

Canon Rath talked with Don Kurre about the 8th Music on the Bricks coming up on August 11-12th in downtown North Platte. The two discussed the event, vendors, and highlighted performers.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The 8th Music on the Bricks is coming to North Platte August 11-12th in downtown North Platte. The two-day event features live music and vendors offering food and drinks. The family friendly event is only $5 a person to get in. "We go and close the streets downtown the bricks and this started back during the eclipse," said Co-Chair Don Kurre. "We will gather 1100-1200 people downtown with live music, food, and games."&nbsp;

The two-day event starts on Friday the 11th with the Baxter Band. The event runs from 7-10pm. Saturdays lineup will feature 3 bands with Drew Phillips band leading the day off. Top Shelf Country will perform from 7-8:30 and rounding off Saturday's lineup is The Platinum Pearls as they will take the stage from 8:30-midnight.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The two-day event features live music and vendors offering food and drinks. The family friendly event is only $5 a person to get in. "We go and close the streets downtown the bricks and this started back during the eclipse," said Co-Chair Don Kurre. "We will gather 1100-1200 people downtown with live music, food, and games."&nbsp;</p><p>The two-day event starts on Friday the 11th with the Baxter Band. The event runs from 7-10pm. Saturdays lineup will feature 3 bands with Drew Phillips band leading the day off. Top Shelf Country will perform from 7-8:30 and rounding off Saturday's lineup is The Platinum Pearls as they will take the stage from 8:30-midnight.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>$5 cash to get in and there will be food vendors and ways to get drinks at the event. The fair offers plenty of events for everyone in the family to enjoy. 4-H started on Monday with most festival events starting on Wednesday. Fan favorites that are back is the rodeo on Thursday, the Keith County Survivor Games on Friday and the Combine Derby on Saturday.&nbsp;

Canon Rath talked with Tiffany Hernandez about the Banisters Leadership Academy upcoming car wash fundraiser on August 5th but also takes a more in-depth dive of what Banister Leadership Academy is.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The Banister Leadership Academy is a nonprofit that helps strengthen youth and families through leadership skills, life skills, social skills, and job readiness. The program is offered for kids k-12. "We have various different programs geared towards the community and the kids' ages," said Tiffany Hernandez. "They come in, we feed them a hot meal and we teach them those leadership skills."&nbsp;

The fundraising event going on August 5th is a free will donation car wash from 11am - 2pm at Wash Time North on the corner of 12th and Jeffers. "We are a nonprofit, so we are always doing local fundraisers, so we have a free will donation car wash this Saturday," said Hernandez. "If you come during your lunch break, Rowdy Rott BBQ is also going to have their truck there and they are donating 10% of their proceeds to our (Banisters Leadership Academy) nonprofit."&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The Lincoln County Fair has slowly come to in end in North Platte but the 4-H participants geared up for the Lincoln County Livestock sale going on July 31st. This livestock sale is not like your typically livestock sale you may encounter. "It's a premium only auction so no livestock will actually be offered for sale," said Tayton Lucas. "The kids can bring there animals into the ring but whatever the amount is goes straight to the kids."&nbsp;

The complimentary buyers lunch was held from 11:30 am - 1pm with the sale beginning at 1pm. If you would like to learn more about the event but also these individuals involvements with 4-H, check out the podcast above.&nbsp;

Canon Rath talked with Lorena Beckius about the Ogallala Community School Supply Drive that is going on till August 7th.&nbsp;

OGALLALA, NEB - The community of Ogallala is doing a community wide school supply drive. These donations can help local students be prepared for the upcoming school year. The supplies can be pretty much school related like notebooks, folders, backpacks are just a few examples. It has been asked not to bring pencils or crayons since there is a good amount donated, however they won't turn them away if you wish to donate some. You can take your supplies to the yellow bus at Wolf Auto in Ogallala.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - Nebraska's Biggest Little Rodeo Logan County Fair and Rodeo is approaching fast. The fair begins Saturday with different events for everyone in the family to enjoy. Also, the 4-H events will begin July 30th and will run through Saturday August 5th.&nbsp;&nbsp;

While there are plenty of events to do throughout the week, a new event is coming to this year's fair. On Friday, August 4th, Mini Barrel Race and Mini Bucking Bulls will be introduced for the first time. To participate in the Mini Barrel Race, you have to be 10 and under and to participate in Mini Bucking Bulls it's for ages 8-13. Check the flyer below for more information on the new event. The rodeo will kick off Saturday.&nbsp;

OGALLALA, NEB - The city of Ogallala is holding a special presentation tonight at Memorial Park right by the tennis courts about human trafficking. The event is set to start at 6pm mountain time and will last tell 7:30pm mountain time. The guest speaker will be Nebraska State Trooper Tim Flick.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - Summer time is always that time of year to get out and enjoy the outdoors. It's also a good time to get a golf tournament rolling. The 9th annual Maxwell Wildcats Booster Club 4-person scramble is scheduled for August 5th at Lake Maloney golf course in North Platte.&nbsp;

The booster club has made it known that the money raised will not only be used for sports but used for all activities and to help purchase a new mascot costume. Some of the money is also set aside for a scholarship. "Maxwell Booster club is in charge of raising money all year long to help the school with certain items," said Maxwell Booster Club President Marshall Robinson.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The 4-person golf scramble fundraiser event to help raise money for different activities at Maxwell Public Schools is scheduled to take place on August 5th at Lake Maloney Golf Course. The event is open to anyone who wants to sign up and play in it. It cost $280 per team includes lunch and hole prizes. NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The Lincoln County Fair is officially here. The festival events began today while the 4-H events began on Monday. The livestock sale is Monday at 1pm. It is also a premium sale which means no livestock will be sold at the event. There is a complimentary buyer lunch from 11:30am - 1pm.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Coy has been doing 4-H for 4 years now. He also shows multiple animals for 4-H as he shows off horses, goats, and cows. 4-H is also another good experience for Corfield since he has made many friends. He has also taken some good life lessons from 4-H. "I've learned that you want to work hard and if you want to win grand champion, you have to work hard with your steers," said Coy Corfield.&nbsp;

McCook, Nebr - #2 Ogallala defeated #6 Broken Bow in walk off fashion in game one 4-3, then dominated Broken Bow in game two 17-8 to advance to the 2023 Class B State Tournament this weekend in Pierce, Nebraska. The tournament begins July 29th and runs through August 2nd.&nbsp;

It was a pitchers/defensive dual between both teams. Ogallala's Caden Rezac who got the start game 1 started the game with a strike out but ended up walking the next four batters which gave Broken Bow an early 1-0 but after a mound visit from Ogallala Head Coach Ty Benson, Rezac went on to strike out the top half of the side.&nbsp;

Starting on the mound for Broken Bow was Central Methodist commit Gavin Goodner. First pitch he threw, Rezac sent flying down the right field line for a solo shot homerun to tie the game at 1. Both pitchers only allowed 1 run through three innings.

In the bottom half of the 4th, Ogallala's Jayden Curtis started the inning off with a single. Next batter Max Mueller would walk to first. Goodner would battle back to strike out the next two batters. With two outs and Curtis at third, Mueller at second, Michael Redden was at the plate. Goodner, who thought he struck out Redden, was called for a balk by the third base umpire which scored Curtis to give a 2-1.

Ogallala would add one more run in the bottom of the 6th to expand their lead 3-1. In the top of the 7th, Broken Bow third baseman Hagan Campbell started the inning off with a double. Next batter, Eli Coble would reach first on a walk. Brice Chaplin would hit a double to centerfield which brought in two runs tying the game at 3. A hard-hit ground ball to Curtis was fielded and the throw was in time for out #3.

Cole Stokey would lead off the bottom of the 7th with a single. Coming to the plate later in the inning was cleanup hitter Curtis who would send a deep ball to centerfield which scored the game winning run where Ogallala won game one 4-3.

Rezac would throw 5 2/3 innings striking out 14. He didn't allow a hit. Colton Knispel would come in relief to finish the game. Knispel struck out 1 in his appearance. Ogallala would combine for 6 hits in the game.

Broken Bow's Caden Holm who is heading into his sophomore year of college and a member of the Hastings College Bronco baseball team would get his 2nd appearance against Ogallala. Aydan Halligan would get a single off Holm and later score in the top half of the inning where Holm walked him in. Ogallala would take a 1-0 heading to the bottom half of the 1st.

Colton Knispel would start the 2nd game for Ogallala after he had thrown 29 pitches to stay under the pitch count previously. Broken Bow catcher Max Dension which reach base after sending a double to left center field. Next batter Brice Chaplin would hit a 2-run homerun to left field to give Broken Bow a 2-1.

Ogallala would remain scoreless after the top half of the 2nd while Broken Bow would add 3 runs in the bottom half. This postseason, Ogallala has had games where they would explode in an inning. In the top half of the 3rd, Ogallala would score 8 runs. Only 3 hits in the inning, however Holm who would walk 6 batters and was pulled from the game. Chaplin would come in relief but could not get things rolling and would give up a single to Stokey and walk 2 batters as well. Ogallala regained the lead 9-4.&nbsp;

Broken Bow would slowly chip away at Ogallala's lead as they would add 2 more runs in the bottom of the 4th to make it 9-6. However, Ogallala would add 4 more runs in the top of the 5th. Then, they would add 4 more runs in the top of the 6th to make the score 17-6. Despite a late run from Broken Bow, who would add 2 more in the bottom of the 6th, the game was called due to mercy rule and Ogallala wins game two 17-8.

Ogallala is the 2023 B6 American Legion Senior District Tournament champion and earned a bid to the 2023 Class B State Tournament. Ogallala will take on Springfield Post 143 in the first found at 9:30 mountain time. Pregame coverage will begin at 9:20 mountain time.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - A friendly but competitive fundraiser softball game is coming up between the North Platte Softball team vs the FNBO First National Legion Baseball team in a battle of the bats. Teammates Mentoring is a nonprofit organization that's mission is to positively impact the world by inspiring students to reach their full potential through mentoring. The proceeds of this event go to Teammates Mentoring. It's the 5th Annual Rumble by the River to battle between the boys legion baseball team and girls' softball team. "About 6 years ago my daughter was a softball player and there was a lot of banter back and forth between the boys and girl’s teams and I thought what a better way to raise money for Teammates is to have a game," said Molly Morales.&nbsp;

Ricky Holm, who is the FNBO Nationals Legion baseball coach, was apart of this event two years ago during his first year as head coach. "I know we did this two years ago in my first-year coach and it was a lot of fun," said FNBO Nationals Coach Ricky Holm. "Were getting out there for a good cause and competing against fellow classmates."&nbsp;

The event is July 30th at 6pm at the Dowhower softball Complex. Admission is $5 at the gates. FNBO Bank will be at the ballpark grilling food. NORTH PLATTE, NEB - Boxing is heading to North Platte this weekend when the Buffalo Bill Brawl returns to the D&amp;N Event Center. This weekend's event will be streamed on the NorthPlattePost.com Saturday and Sunday and the championship matches will be aired live on FM98-1 and AM 14-10 on Sunday. Boxers from 13 states will be in North Platte this weekend.&nbsp;

This boxing tournament is a well-known tournament in Nebraska. "It is a regional tournament that is the largest in Nebraska and we actually broke our record this year as we have 136 boxers coming from over 13 different states," said Brad Garrick. "Kids from all over the place will be here and it's a fun event." Some of the states where boxers come from are Nebraska, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, North Dakota, Montana.&nbsp;&nbsp;

FNBO Nationals end of season review

McCook, Nebr - #2 Ogallala moves on to the B6 American Legion Seniors Tournament Championship Game after defeating #5 Holdrege 12-4 Monday night in the elimination game. Ogallala will have a rematch with #6 Broken Bow who they lost to 9-4 Sunday afternoon. Ogallala will have to win twice to advance to the state tournament. They will take on Broken Bow tomorrow at 4:30 MST. Ogallala's rematch with Holdrege started off very similar to the first time these two teams played in the first round of districts on Friday. Scoreless two innings for both teams before Holdrege would strike first in the bottom of the third. Holdrege's Matt Janssen would reach on base from a hit by pitch. Beau Jensen also reached base before Keagan Steinke would hit a 2 RBI double to give Holdrege an early l2-0.

Top of the fourth, Ogallala's Ian Shaw would hit a double in the inning. Max Mueller would also hit a double to score Shaw. Next batter, Colton Knispel single would score Mueller to tie the game at 2. Both teams would score a run in the fourth which resulted the score 3-3 after four completed innings.

This post season run, Ogallala has had an explosive inning minus the Broken Bow game and this time it was the top half of the fifth inning. The team would rack in 7 runs to extend there lead 9-2. Caden Rezac's two triples in the fifth was the highlight of the inning. Shaw would also hit a triple in the fifth inning as well.&nbsp;

Things got quiet tell the top half of the 7th when Rezac would send a three run homerun down the right field line to give us the final score of 12-4. Hitting and pitching was a key component for Ogallala in tonight's elimination game.

Getting the start for Ogallala tonight was Aydan Halligan. Halligan would throw 5 innings while striking out three batters. Cole Stokey would toss the 6th inning striking out one while Josh Christensen would finish the 7th inning striking out two batters. As a whole the staff struck out 6 batters and allowed 7 hits.

Holdrege would start Keagan Stienke who would go 4 2/3 striking out 4. Trey Weaver would come in relief but got pulled after 4 batters. Cole Guthrie would finish the game for Holdrege striking out three batters.

Ogallala's hot bats would finish the game with 14 hits. Rezac was 4 for 5 with a single, two triples, and a three run homerun. He was a double shy from the cycle. Shaw went 3 for 4 with a single and two doubles. Mueller was 2 for 5 with a single and a double.&nbsp;

Ogallala and Broken Bow are the last two remaining teams in the&nbsp;B6 American Legion Seniors Tournament. Broken Bow only has to win one while Ogallala will need to win twice. The winner will advance to the 2023 Class B State Championship tournament in Pierce, Nebraska. The tournament is July 29th - August 2nd.

<p>Canon Rath - North Platte Post</p><p>McCook, Nebr - #2 Ogallala moves on to the B6 American Legion Seniors Tournament Championship Game after defeating #5 Holdrege 12-4 Monday night in the elimination game. Ogallala will have a rematch with #6 Broken Bow who they lost to 9-4 Sunday afternoon. Ogallala will have to win twice to advance to the state tournament. They will take on Broken Bow tomorrow at 4:30 MST. Scoreless two innings for both teams before Holdrege would strike first in the bottom of the third. Holdrege's Matt Janssen would reach on base from a hit by pitch. Beau Jensen also reached base before Keagan Steinke would hit a 2 RBI double to give Holdrege an early l2-0.</p><p>Top of the fourth, Ogallala's Ian Shaw would hit a double in the inning. Max Mueller would also hit a double to score Shaw. Next batter, Colton Knispel single would score Mueller to tie the game at 2. Ogallala Advances to the B6 American Legion Senior's Tournament Championship Game

Canon Rath talked with Amanda Carr about the upcoming Lincoln County July 26th-July 31st.

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - It's fair week here for the Lincoln County fair. The fair festivals which begins July 26th - July 31st have plenty of events for everyone in the family to enjoy. However, the 4-H fair schedule began today with the dog show. Throughout the week, their are plenty of 4-H events from the bake good sales, to animal showings that are happening. For the festival events, the highlighted event this year is the Easton Corbin concert on Friday. Kearney native Jason Mayher will be the opener for Corbin. The event is located at the racetrack. Gates open at 6pm, with Mayher starting at 7pm and Easton Corbin performs at 9pm. The fan favorite pig wrestling event is Saturday at 6pm at the Wild West Arena. All ages can come out and enjoy. Registrations will be at 5pm on Saturday. Lincoln County Fair Preview - Conversation with Amanda Carr

McCook, Nebr - #2 Ogallala defeated #3 McCook 13-8 after a back-and-forth battle Saturday at the Jaycee Complex in McCook for day 2 of the B6 American Legion Seniors Tournament. Ogallala will take on Broken Bow Sunday afternoon in the winners' bracket at 12 pm MST.&nbsp;

It was a very similar start to game 2 for Ogallala as both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings. Ogallala who was the visiting team in today's contest would plate 6 runs in the top half of the third inning. Ogallala's Caden Rezac would start the top of the third with a stand up triple and would later come around to score the first points of the game. McCook pitcher Brady Graham struggled in the third, walking two batters and hitting two batters. He would later be replaced by Quentin Terry.&nbsp;

McCook would cut the lead in half after they would score three in the bottom of the fourth. Ogallala couldn't add run insurance in the top of the fifth while McCook would eventually tie the game at 7 after the fifth.

Ogallala would add insurance in the top of the sixth when they would again add another 6 runs. Ogallala's Ian Shaw started the inning getting hit by a pitch before stealing two bags. Jayden Curtis hit a hard hit down the third base line to score Shaw and helped get the momentum rolling.

Ogallala would add one more in the seventh for good measures as they would defeat McCook 13-8. In the game, Ogallala would throw 4 pitchers on the mound. Colton Knispel would get the start and throw three innings striking out 3 batters. Also getting appearances was Aydan Halligan, Cole Stokey, and Caden Rezac where Rezac would finish the game. The Ogallala pitching staff would combine to strike out 8 batters. McCook threw 4 pitchers as well on the mound.&nbsp;

Earlier in the day #1 Minden was eliminated by Holdrege 4-2. Broken Bow defeated Gothenburg 11-3 which also eliminated Gothenburg from the tournament. Ogallala will take on Broken Bow in the winner's bracket for the first game of the day with a 12 pm MST start. McCook and Holdrege will battle it out in the loser's bracket with their game set to begin at 4:00 pm central time.

McCook, Nebr - #2 Ogallala beat #5 Holdrege 8-0 in 5 innings in the opening round of the B6 American Legion Seniors Tournament Friday afternoon.&nbsp; Ogallala will play McCook Saturday at 4pm Mountain Time. Dominating pitching performance from Ogallala's Ian Shaw as he struck out all 9 batters he faced. Caden Rezac would come in relief for Shaw in the top of the 4th and would finish his day with 5 strikeouts. As a whole, the Ogallala pitching staff would strike out 14 batters and only giving up 1 hit in the entire contest.

Slow start for both teams as it was tied 0-0 heading into the bottom of the third before Jayden Curtis would get a single which got the bats rolling for Ogallala. 4 straight singles, walks, and errors committed by Holdrege would help contribute to 7 runs in the bottom half of the third inning.

Holdrege Farm Bureau hung on for the 4th inning, but Rezac would knock Curtis's home in the bottom half of the 5th to push the lead to 8 and eventually call the game to mercy rule where Ogallala was victorous 8-0.

Earlier in the day Broken Bow defeated top seeded Minden 15-0, Broken Bow will play Gothenburg who lost to McCook 12-4 in 5 innings at 2pm Central Time in McCook on Saturday afternoon. The 11 am elimination game will feature Minden taking on Holdrege.
