NORTH PLATTE - The 20th Annual Fundraiser for the Gift of Hope Cancer Foundation is set for September 19th at the Lincoln County Fairground. The event is to help raise money for folks in the western part of the state with their battle with cancer. The event will feature a prime rib dinner and two complimentary drink tickets that can be used for beer or wine.&nbsp;

There will also be auctions of items throughout the evening. The schedule is looking like this: 5:00pm is Social Hour, 6:00pm is dinner, with the auction to follow. Kim Baxter will be performing live music throughout the event. Tickets are $25 (you can call Jan Cox to purchase those. North Platte/Sandhills Post News Director Canon Rath caught up with 4-H'er Ezri Bay and 4-H Youth Development Extension Educator Caitlyn Jacobson about the 4-H Dog Skillathon category.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - 4-H is America's largest youth development program across the United States that helps learn skills that will last a lifetime. The age requirement for 4-H is the ages of 8-18. There are many different categories that 4-H'ers can participate in during their time in the program. A unique category is Dog Skillathon.&nbsp;

The Dog Skillathon contest is an opportunity that 4-H'rs can patriciate and test their knowledge of dogs. "It's a giant mess test and it's kind of interesting and so you walk in this big room and there's a whole bunch of tables with different activities," said 4-H'er Ezri Bay. "They hand you a test and you go to one of the tables and at each table there's like questions and photos that go with you questions and you have to answer those."&nbsp;

North Platte Post News Director Canon Rath caught up with Father Jonathon Sorenson and Jory Torress about the upcoming St. Patrick's Church Block Party Weekend as the event is this Saturday and Sunday.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The St. Patricks Church in North Platte is hosting a Block Party this Saturday and Sunday at the church which is located at&nbsp;415 N Chestnut St in North Platte. The event, which is a rebranding of the BBQ, will have an adult setting for Saturday while Sunday is the family friendly day.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Saturday's event, which is set up for adults, will be a relaxed evening while folks can enjoy adult beverages and a nacho bar to enjoy. "We are going to have a beer garden, that will be a cash beer garden and a free will donation nacho bar," said Jory Torress. "We really just want to get everybody together and show the community that you can go to church and enjoy a drink responsibly with your parishioners and community."&nbsp;

Sunday will be geared towards the family friendly atmosphere and have plenty for everyone of all ages to enjoy Sunday's event. "On Sunday, we felt strongly having different events for all ages," said Torress. "It's hard to do creating events for all ages because high schoolers have different interest than toddlers." High schoolers will also be playing the role of helping run some of the events during Sunday's family day.&nbsp;

The shirts do cost $30, however $20 will be donated to the school of your choice. The deadline to get shirts is this Sunday. Also, what's going on starting September 13th – September 30th is change wars battle for education. Students can bring change to school to participate in the event but also if you would like to donate you can head over to First Interstate Bank and specify what school you would like to donate to. You can also donate online. Teachers will be competing against one another during this competition.&nbsp;

These fun events lead up to the backyard BBQ on September 22nd before North Platte takes on Kearney High. The backyard BBQ is a friendly competition between community members. GOTHENBURG, NEB.- The 2023 Friend's Festival in Gothenburg is quickly approaching. The festival offers many different Friend's themed events that fans of the show, and anyone can enjoy. On September 13th, there will be Trivia Night and Open Mic at the Sun Theatre in Gothenburg. The trivia will be based around the TV show. Teams of 4-6 cost $20 and teams 7-9 cost $30, however there is very limited space. The limit will cap off at 20 teams. Due to last-minute changes, there will be a Friend's Comedy Night on September 14th at the Sun Theatre in Gothenburg. Performing for the event is Billie J and Talon Saucerman. North Platte Post News Director Canon Rath talked with Paul Oettinger about the upcoming 5th Annual Western Nebraska Craft Beer Festival this Saturday at Pals Brewing Company in North Platte.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - Pals Brewing Company in North Platte will be the host site of the 5th Annual Western Nebraska Craft Beer Festival going on this Saturday from 4pm - 8pm (if you have a VIP ticket, the event runs from 3pm - 8 pm). The event features many vendors from across the state of Nebraska, the Pals food menu and different types of BBQ will be offered. Live music will be playing during the event.&nbsp;

The 5th Annual Western Nebraska Craft Beer Festival highlights brewers on the western side of the state but the event is welcome to all brewers in the state of Nebraska. "It's really a celebration of Western Nebraska craft beer," said Paul Oettinger. "Really it's for the whole state of Nebraska, we have couple Omaha breweries and a Norfolk brewery coming this year and we have about 10 or 12 of the Western Nebraska breweries that are going to be there”.&nbsp;

The event will feature a fruit beer where folks will try the fruit beers and vote on their favorite. At the end of the event, the winner will be announced. It will be a blind vote. Tickets to the event are still available. VIP tickets are sold out, but GA tickets are still available. Advanced tickets are $35, and at the door are $40. Live music will be playing during the event.&nbsp;</p><p>The 5th Annual Western Nebraska Craft Beer Festival highlights brewers on the western side of the state but the event is welcome to all brewers in the state of Nebraska. "It's really a celebration of Western Nebraska craft beer," said Paul Oettinger. "Really it's for the whole state of Nebraska, we have couple Omaha breweries and a Norfolk brewery coming this year and we have about 10 or 12 of the Western Nebraska breweries that are going to be there”.&nbsp;</p><p>The event will feature a fruit beer where folks will try the fruit beers and vote on their favorite. NORTH PLATTE - The September 5th North Platte City Council meeting has officially come and gone and there were different discussion points from the meeting. From the latest city council meeting, there were different agenda the council talked about celebrations at creativity arts council, public hearing on potentially converting a former church into a venue, and budget public hearing are just a few to list off.&nbsp;

A big chunk of the last city council meeting was a public hearing about converting a church into a venue. The venue would offer different events and parties but there was a good amount of concern heading into the hearing. “The purpose was to convert the church into a venue space and people can host parties and that sort of thing in this space,” said North Platte Mayor Brandon Kelliher. “The area residents were concerned about the possibility of having increase traffic and things like that and they came to express their concerns.”&nbsp;

The cornhole&nbsp;tournament is 21+ to participate due to the beer garden. There will also be a burger meal fundraiser run&nbsp;by the Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department. All the events are related to the Friends TV show that aired from 1994 to 2004 lasting 10 seasons. Throughout the five-day festival, there are plenty of events for everyone to enjoy.&nbsp;&nbsp;

This year's festival is something new coming to the Gothenburg community. "Gothenburg has hosted the harvest festival in town for over 100 years and it's our annual fall festival like other small towns have," said Deb Egenberger. "This year we landed on the Friends theme, so it's a Friends fest and most of our activities are connected to the Friends television show."&nbsp;

North Platte Post News Director Canon Rath sat down with Deb Skates and Sonja Voycheske to talk about the North Platte Area Habitat for Humanity 25th Anniversary Garden Party.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB. - North Platte Area Habitat for Humanity is celebrating 25 years. For their 25th anniversary, they will be hosting a Garden Party on September 8th from 6pm – 9pm at the home of Al and Cheri Erickson who have been supporters for a long time. During the 25 years Habitat for Humanity has been in the North Platte community, Habitat has built 64 houses.&nbsp;

This event is a special way to celebrate the 25 years that Habitat for Humanity has been in North Platte. “It is a celebration of gratitude,” said Sonja Voycheske. “Habitat for Humanity has been in North Platte for 25 years and this is how we decided this is how we are going to celebrate it and it’s going to be a lovely event in the backyard of Cheri and Al Erickson.” The event will feature live music, adult beverages, and auction items.&nbsp;

Tickets are available for the event, but they are limited to 70. Tickets cost $50 a piece. There are a variety of places where you can get tickets. “They are (tickets) at the Habitat office and they are at Great Plains Reality,” said Dalene Skates.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB. - The Support Our Schools campaign have been out gathering signatures the past 90 days&nbsp;to try to get the bill LB 753 on the 2024 ballot so Nebraska votes can vote on the bill. LB753 is the opportunity scholarship act and commits $50 million in tax credits for scholarships to kids across Nebraska with priority for scholarships going to kids who live in poverty, foster care, experience bullying, harassment, or other victimizing behaviors, or have a parent or guardian who is serving in the military.&nbsp;

Support our schools is against the bill as they favor public tax dollars should stay with public schools, not private schools. North Platte Post News Director Canon Rath talked with Justin Petska about the upcoming Hershey Fall Festival this weekend in Hershey. &nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB. - The Hershey Fall Festival is set to begin this Friday and the event will run through Saturday. Even though Saturday is the main day for activities, there are all activities all weekend long. The activities are geared for everyone of all ages to enjoy.&nbsp; &nbsp;

The town and residents are ready to welcome guests into its community to celebrate its yearly fest. "We are ready to go, It's a big deal that we kind of built up all year and now the week is here, and we can't wait to get started and share a little bit of Hershey with everyone," said Justin Petska. &nbsp;

The parade will kick things off Saturday in downtown Hershey. With events all day, wrapping up the evening is the Muscadine Bloodline concert with guest Drew Philips. "The concert will wrap up the event that night," said Petska. "It's right on main street and feel free to bring your own chair." &nbsp;

North Platte News Director Canon Rath talked with Dee Nichelson about the Battle of Non-Profits event taking place August 26th at Pals Brewing Company.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The 3rd Annual Battle of the Non-Profits event is taking place August 26th at Pals Brewing Company in North Platte. The event features 8 teams all of non-profits to battle it out in games to win the first-place prize of $1,250.&nbsp;

The Battle of the Non-Profits was put together so non-profits can get recognition. "The purpose of the event is to promote and support local non-profit organizations and we do that battling between the different organizations with a fun event," said Executive Director Dee Nichelson. "We can earn funds from and also get some exposure out there to the community."&nbsp;

The event is still looking for volunteers to help with the Battle of the Non-Profits. They are still looking for two non-profit teams who would like to participate. If you want to learn more about the Battle of the Non-Profits, check out the podcast above.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The 2023 Woofstock event is taking place this Saturday at Memorial Park in North Platte from 10 am - 2 pm. This is the 15 year of the event and is the first time it's taken place since 2019. It missed the last few years due to Covid. It is a friendly reminder that all dogs do need to be on a leash and no cats to be brought to the park for the safety of the dogs and cats.

There are plenty of different activities for dogs and humans to enjoy. The splash pad will be open for dogs and humans to play. It's supposed to be a hot day, so the splash pad offers a way to cool down. Also there will be ice cream for the humans and ice cream for the dogs to enjoy. Raffle tickets are being sold. NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The August 15th North Platte City Council meeting has officially come and gone and there were different discussion points from the meeting. From the latest city council meeting, there were different agenda the council talked about. A few of the different agenda topics were 4 grant applications, a quality growth fund for 2 new business, interlocal agreements for 911 services and resource officers in schools were just a few from the agenda list.&nbsp;

A big part of the meeting was requesting permission from the council to apply for 4 different grants. "The initial 4 were applications to the federal government, 4 grants in millions I think total amount was $70 million or so we are requesting," said North Platte Mayor Brandon Kelliher. "It's highly unlikely we would get all that money granted to the city of North Platte but its primary for infrastructure projects so streets, water/sewer, repaving areas or expanding."&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The Kearney Evening of Wishes event is going on this Thursday at the Younes Conference Center in Kearney. Make A Wish Nebraska is celebrating 40 years of wishes. The 16th annual Gala is back to help fundraise money.&nbsp;&nbsp;

This year at the event, there will be guest speakers, wish families, auctions, and so much more to make the evening one you will never forget. For the money raised during the event, the proceeds will go towards Make A Wish Greater Nebraska. "All the proceeds will be going towards Greater Nebraska Wish Kids which is all the wish kids that are west of York County," said Courtney Hughbanks. "That includes the North Platte surrounding areas and everywhere to the Wyoming border."&nbsp;

Derek Beck talked with Jodi Hinds about the upcoming Livin' Out Loud event in Gothenburg August 19th-20th.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - Livin' Out Loud, which is the largest Christian Festival is going to be in Gothenburg next Saturday and Sunday at Lake Helen. The event is free to the public and expected to bring anywhere from 12 to 16 thousand to Gothenburg over the two days.&nbsp;

Livin' Out Loud features Christian bands that are well known. "The bands that we have this year are all in the top 10, top 15 and I mean they are incredible," said Jodi Hinds. "We are so excited to have them (the bands) and they are great people too, last year a lot of them came and signed autographs." Bands featured this year are Cain who has #1 hits coming out all the time, Cory Asbury, Katy Nichole, Ben Fuller, and All The Noise.&nbsp;
