NORTH PLATTE, NEB – The Keith County Big Give event is underway, and the Ogallala Rotaract is fundraising money to help buy Christmas gifts for families in need. The organization adopted the caring and sharing program and the program is a don’t ask, don’t tell service that helps provide Christmas gifts for families in need. “If you were experiencing a financial hardship and don’t feel like you can provide gifts for your children that Christmas, we have set up an online form. Go fill that out, give us a couple of different gift ideas,” said Stephanie Reed. “We make sure no child goes without a gift Christmas time.” The event runs until June 15th and you can donate by going to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.keithcountybiggive.org/" target="_blank">https://www.keithcountybiggive.org</a> and click on Ogallala Rotaract. NORTH PLATTE, Neb - The first day of North Platte's Cody Park amusement rides is coming up this Friday, and for the 7th year in a row, Chad and Rhonda Fosdick and their company's Premier Rental, Glass Doctors and Mr. Appliance will offer the community Free Rides from 5-9pm Friday evening to kick off the summer at North Platte's largest park. Chad Fosdick says "we're all a tight knit family (Premier Rental, Glass Doctors, Mr. Appliance employees), but we vary rarely can all get together because we're all out working and helping customers." He says that "selfishly it's a way for us to all get together and do an event together, then you couple that with it's Cody Park free rides; it's even better."

In addition to the free rides, the Cody Park Concessions stand will be open with it's famous ice cream and Dusty Trails will be there with their petting zoo.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb - The North Platte Saint Patrick's Boys Skills USA team has qualified for the National Skills USA competition June 18 in Atlanta, Georgia in Video Broadcasting. North Platte Saint Pat's did well at their state competition in April taking Gold in Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Gold in Chapter Business, and Bronze in Audio/Radio in addition to the Gold medal in Video Broadcasting award.

The Skills USA Championships are career competition events showcasing the best career and technical education students in the nation. Contests begin locally and continue through the state and national levels.

Through an investment from business and industry partners of approximately $36 million, the event occupies a space equivalent to 31 football fields or 41 acres. In 2022, there were nearly 5,200 contestants in 108 separate events. Nearly 2,000 judges and contest organizers from labor and management make the national event possible.

The philosophy of the Championships is to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance and to keep training relevant to employers’ needs.

The NPSP boys team qualified in "Video News Production", in which Teams of four have two hours to write and produce their rundown before the assigned competition time. Two students serve as the news anchor team, one student serves as the team’s director/technical director, and one student is the floor director. Teams will produce and complete a three-minute newscast as if it were live. Teams are evaluated on their broadcast writing ability, voice quality, diction, timing and pacing and performance techniques.

The boys are holding fundraising events to pay for their trip. The first fundraiser is May 20th with a pickleball tournament.&nbsp; They will host a pork feed June 4.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb - With the rains this week, wildfires are probably the furthest thing from our minds right now, but it was only a week ago that we were talking about how dry it is, and how strung out many of our rural fire departments must feel. We also know how quickly the weather can change.

 The dry weather earlier this year led two North Platte businessmen to challenge either other to raise the most donations of bottled water that would ultimately be donated to rural fire departments around the area. Agri-Affiliates' Chase Dodson and State Farm Insurance agent Jordan Boston are on a crusade to collect the most bottles of water for a good cause. (CLICK on Podcast To Hear Full Interview)

The Post will be anchoring a Live Broadcast from 4-6 this Wednesday at North Platte Fire Department Station One to see who collects the most water. OGALLALA, Neb - The Ogallala Regional Arts Council has had a busy concert season, and this Sunday, May 7 they'll hold the final show of the season with Jim Witter and Ian Tanner. The show starts at 7pm at the Ogallala Performing Arts Center at the High School. Admission is $15 for adults or $7 for students. ORAC members get in free with your membership card. Derek Beck spoke with Barb Jeffries from the Eagle Media studios in Ogallala about the concert, and other things on the horizon for the Ogallala Regional Arts Council.

Ogallala Regional Arts Council to hold final show of season Sunday

NORTH PLATTE, Neb - The North Platte City Council held their regular May meeting on Tuesday night. Among the topics was annexation. Chief Industries which purchased property north of the North Platte Community College north campus recently would like the city to annex that land including a portion of land along the canal that currently belongs to the county. Kelliher also spoke about public hearing that was held in second reading for the tax refinance process for the second phase of the Lakeview apartments on west A street. The owners of the apartments are looking at adding 120 more units.&nbsp;

The council did approve two stop signs that will be placed at 17th Stree and Cody near the Buffalo School. Finally the Mayor spoke about the city creating a U-shaped paving, sewer and water district in the Industrial Park near where the Cabela's Call Center was located. The reason for the new U-shaped road that will come back to State Farm road is to have shovel-ready streets in place for future development in the area.

🎙️ Record day expected Wednesday for North Platte Giving Day

NORTH PLATTE, NE - 308 BMX came to be in 2016 and had some mementom in North Platte to build a BMX facility that would host local, state and national events, then came 2020 and those plans came to a hault.

Now jump to 2022. The City of North Platte approached 308 BMX with an alternative location that would better suit the needs of the organization as well as utilize some under used city property. The 5 acre plot that currently is home to the Happy Hound dog retreat will be the new home of 308 BMX and the community pump track. The City will work on relocating the dog park to a portion of Cody Park across the road.

Derek Beck with the POST sat down with 308 BMX organizer Brandon McCook and talked about the planned BMX track and community pump track that is planned in North Platte. North Platte Giving Day is May 3 and with community giving support McCook thinks the organization will be close to their financial goal and able to break ground on the pump track soon if funding comes through.
