NORTH PLATTE - The Prairie Arts Center always has many new and exciting exhibits/gallery's, classes and so much more going on. The Sheldon Exhibit, which is a traveling exhibit will be at the PAC tell the end of the month, also a Halloween exhibit, a special gallery will be set up for North Platte native Eric Sterns that will be open in early November and concerts.&nbsp;

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Jayson and Alan Scott about the upcoming Midwest Championship Fights event going on November 11th at the D&amp;N Event Center in North Platte.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Midwest Championship Fighting is returning to North Platte for their MCF 25: Salute To Veterans III fights November 11th at the D&amp;N Event Center. The fight card features 16 fights with 14 local fighters. Tickets are $30 and you can purchase tickets <a href="https://events.humanitix.com/mcf-25-salute-to-veterans-iii">here.</a> Doors open at 4:30pm with the flights scheduled for 6:00pm.&nbsp;

Scott is a North Platte native and graduated from NPHS in 2018. While in high school, Scott wrestled for the Bulldogs and finished as the state runner up in the 126-weight class in 2018. Post News Director chatted with Brenda Hansen and Mardel Manary who are with the North Platte Opportunity Center. The trio chatted about the sensory that the NPOC has and also the Sara Rickertsen Special Needs Grant that the NPOC received.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte Opportunity Center serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and is dedicated to making an impact on these individual lives. The NPOC also helps individuals with their community living, and with jobs and so much more.&nbsp;

The NPOC also has a sensory side to help with individuals who struggle with sensory overload. "Sensory overload can be volume, it could be too many people, it can be a lot of different ways but it's a place for them to come decompress and unwind," said Brenda Hansen. "It's a very calming environment." Hansen has been working with the sensory side at the NPOC for almost 10 years.&nbsp;

The NPOC was recently granted the Sara Rickertsen Special Needs Grant from the Lexington Community Foundation. "We are very excited that the Lexington Community Foundation granted us the Sara Rickertsen Special Needs Grant and we are going to use that as part of our program over at the sensory side and we are getting some speech generated devices," said Mardel Manary. "We have&nbsp; 7 individuals who are nonverbal so it will help them communicate."&nbsp;

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Muriel Clark about the upcoming Sutherland Economic Development Open House &amp; Town Hall Meeting taking place on Oct. 24th.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Village of Sutherland is hosting an Economic Development Open House &amp; Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 24th from 7:00pm-8:00pm at the Village of Sutherland Office. The event is open to the public and is a great time to learn about the economic program but also voice their concerns and ideas for growth for the community. It's also an opportunity to learn about the 3 Sutherland Economic Development Programs: Business Development Loan and Grant, Property Improvement Program Loan and Grant (Commercial and Residential) and Digital Marketing Grant.&nbsp;

The residents of Sutherland voted for LB840 in May of 2022 which is a collection of 1.5% sales tax. "It's an opportunity for businesses and citizens of Sutherland to learn about our economic development program and its brand new," said Muriel Clark. "We began collecting those funds in January of 2023, so we got about 6, 7 months of those collections coming into our coffers, and we are just wanting to let people know the funds we have and what is available to do with those funds."&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Kwik Stop Youth Basketball League for 3rd-6th graders registration is officially open. The deadline to register is November 12th. It's $50 to register for the league. You can register at the Rec Center or Sports Shoppe and you can also register individually or by team. Games begin in December and ran tell January. Post News Director Canon Rath caught up with 4-H'er McKenna Lundvall and 4-H Development Extension Educator Caitlyn Jacobson about the 4-H Fashion Revue and Clothing Project.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - 4-H is America's largest youth development program across the United States that helps learn skills that will last a lifetime. The age requirement for 4-H is the ages of 8-18. There are many different categories that 4-H'ers can participate in during their time in the program. Some kids may not like showing animals as 4-H offers many other categories to participate in. One is the fashion revue.&nbsp;

The 4-H Fashion Revue is how a person can present himself/herself through clothing, grooming, facial expression and body movement is a form of communication. The goal is to help develop an understanding of personal presentation in public situations with regard to clothing, accessories and grooming. Sewing is an area that can be tough for many at first. "I did tie-dye in the beginning because I really didn't know how to sew and progressively you get more skills in sewing," said 4-H'er McKenna Lundvall.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Trevin Jeffs and Travis Roberts Benefit will be taking place this Saturday from 12pm - 2pm at Budke Powersports in North Platte. The event is a chili feed and silent auction with a variety of auction items being donated from business around the community. The event is $10 per person. All proceeds will go to the families of Jeffs and Roberts.&nbsp;

Jeffs and Roberts were both injured in a motorcycle accident on Oct. 8th. Both riders sustained broken bones and other injuries. Jeffs and Roberts are a part of a group of riders here in North Platte and the idea of the benefit came during a discussion in the riders group chat. This will be one of several benefits for these gentlemen.&nbsp;

The two riders sustained severe injuries from the wreck and all proceeds collected at the benefit will go to the riders' families. "All the proceeds are going to be split evenly between the families to help cover these medical expenses and some of the expenses to get back and forth between here and Omaha where both of these gentlemen are currently recovering at," said Marcus Taylor.&nbsp;

Smith recaps the FNBO Chili Cook-Off and gives us a more in-depth looking into Mid-Plains United Way. Hipp talks about the mentoring program at the Community Connections&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Mid-Plains United Way kicked off their 2023-2024 campaign with the 28th Annual FNBO Chili Cook-Off. For this year's event, over 240 people attended and almost $4,000 was raised. The event this year raised $500 more than last year.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mid-Plains United Way supports 11 non-profits and serves in a 16-county region. "The non-profits provide services and programs that improve education and health and finical stability for people in need," said Mid-Plains United Way Executive Director Haven Smith.&nbsp;

One of these organizations that is supported by the Mid-Plains United Way is Community Connections of Lincoln County. Community Connections is a non-profit that matches youths with mentors. Many of the youths will be matched up with mentors that have very similar skill sets.&nbsp;

Teammates is another program that matches youth with mentors. However, Community Connections has a slightly different approach than Teammates. "Well just that, you know (Teammates) school based, there meeting at the school at a set time each week. There are kids who need maybe some mentoring outside of the school," said Mentoring Coordinator Angela Hipp. "We think the relationship can really flourish when they are able to go do that."&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE – The 21st annual G.R.E.E.N. fundraising event for the North Platte Catholic Schools is planned for Saturday, October 21st at St. Patrick High School. Generating Resources for Educational Excellence Now is the largest single event of the year for the North Platte Catholic Schools Endowment Trust, which works year-round to generate around $600,000 for McDaid and St. Patrick’s schools.&nbsp; 

Endowment Director Wendy Dodson says that this year’s event will feature all of the things that supporters have loved about G.R.E.E.N. over the years… A delicious meal, an online silent auction, Heads or Tails game, Lucky Lotto drawing, live auction, and Spirit Wagon raffle. Plus, guests may also try their hand at the Wall of Wine and the Wall of Whiskey and enjoy some fun entertainment with the Polka Police.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dodson says that since the G.R.E.E.N. event began in 2003, it has generated over $2.1 million dollars in&nbsp; support of the North Platte Catholic Schools. These funds have been used to establish a teacher&nbsp; retirement fund, support general operations of McDaid and St. Patrick’s, fund school improvement&nbsp; projects and technology, and to provide tuition assistance for families.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Rock Church in North Platte is hosting their annual RocktoberFest this Saturday beginning at 5:30 at the Rock Church. The event will have family friendly activities, chili and cinnamon rolls, live music, pumpkin painting, and so much more. The event is free for anyone to attend.&nbsp;&nbsp;

This event initially started off as a chili cookoff before being switched to something fun and new. "It started out as a chili cookoff in our church, and we wanted to show North Platte how much we love our community," said Rock Church Senior Pastor Vaughn Fahrenbruck. "Were very for North Platte, very for our community and decide let's open it up to the entire city." The Rock Church wanted to find ways to expand their chili cookoff and get the community involved and that's how RocktoberFest was created. "We wanted to make it as a popup pumpkin patch and let's make it fun and let's make it free," said Vaughn.&nbsp;

Post News Director Canon Rath caught up with Ashley Lewis from the Connection Homeless Shelter for their monthly conversation. This time, the two talked about the Out of the Box Challenge the Connection Homeless Shelter is hosting.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Connection Homeless Shelter is hosting a fundraiser event called the Out of the Box Challenge. The shelter wants to invite local businesses, emergency personnel services, or just anyone who wants to form a team and take part in the challenge. The Connection Shelter would like to have business show off their boxes from November 13th-16th which is Hunger/Homeless Awareness Month. The final day of the event is November 16th at Brigham's Taproom where the teams can show off their box and have members vote for who has the best box. There is a registration fee of $200 per team.&nbsp;

The idea of the challenge is to grab a box and build a house out of it. The fundraiser event is to help raise money for the homeless shelter. There are dimension rules on the box which have to be 4x4x4. If you would like to learn more about the event, check out the podcast above. &nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The NPCC Softball team is excited to host the Haunted Corn Maze for the second straight year. Last year brought many screams as participants went through the maze. This is the 14th year of doing a fundraiser in October but 2nd year of the Haunted Maze.

The maze runs from 8:00pm -11:00pm on October 7th, 14th, 20th, 21st, 27th, 28th and of course on Halloween. The event cost $10 to get in the event. All proceeds go back to the softball program. If you would like to learn more about the event, check out the podcast above.

The event is the official kick off for the 2023-2024 Mid-Plains United Way campaign season.&nbsp;&nbsp;

FNBO is hosting the event while all the proceeds made from this event will go to Mid-Plain United Way. "This is the 28th annual and it's presented by First National Bank of Omaha and Mid-Plains United Way is super grateful for them (FNBO) to be hosting this for us," said Executive Director Haven Smith. "They provide the event and all the proceeds come back to Mid-Plains United Way." The money raised will be used to help support non-profit organizations in the region.&nbsp;

15 teams have signed up for this year's cook-off and it only cost $10 to get into the event. You can try all the chilis and see which team may have the best. The event is October 6th at the downtown FNBO parking lot from 11:30am - 1:30pm. The weather is looking more on the chilly side for Friday. NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte city council held their regular meeting on October 3rd and their were different discussion points on the agenda that was discussed amongst the council. A few discussion points including awarding the transportation staff for their help in the Sutherland Care Facility fire and Renee White for rookie of the year, water wells at the airport, action on ordinance 4137 (skill games), resolution for TIF at the new Murphy Tractor Site, and ordinance for sale of city industrial park lots.&nbsp;

A new water well is being built on property at the North Platte-Lee Bird Regional Airport to help improve water pressure and reliability on the east end of North Plate. "The water well will hook into the cities water system along Newberry Access on the east end of town," said North Platte Mayor Brandon Kelliher. "The water well will provide a little bit better water feed to the east end of town." With the new addition of the water well being built along Newberry Access, this will help serves the new industrial developments along Newberry Access.&nbsp;

Post's Derek Beck chatted with Autumn Schleicher from the Nebraska Department of Labor about how the last month of September is National Employee Older Workers Week and the Nebraska Department of Labor has programs for older workers to join their team.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The last week of September is dedicated as National Employee Older Workers Week and the week encourages employers to hire older workers to join their team. The Nebraska Department of Labor is always offering programs for workers 55 and older who want to get back into the work field. The Nebraska Department of Labor offers what's called the Senior Community Service Employment Program. The program is targeted at workers who are 55 and older, are unemployed and maybe looking to start a new career path. The program runs year-round but is limited spots.&nbsp;

If you are interested in joining the Senior Community Service Employment Program, you can contact the Nebraska Department of Labor office at (308)-535-8320 or you can go to their office building in North Platte. NORTH PLATTE - The Lincoln County Raceway is hosting their first ever Valve Cover Races on October 28th. The event geared towards a driver teaming up with 4-5 kids and competing in the races. The drivers will be the kid's mentors throughout the whole event from getting together to working on getting ready for the valve cover races and being a role model for their team.&nbsp;

Kids will receive a T-Shirt with their name and team name on it that they can wear to the day of the races. It is free for kids to participate in the event. Registration ends on October 1st. This week's city council meeting was a rather quick one as there was not a whole lot of agenda to discuss. The approval of fireworks for the North Platte Public Schools was granted, Ty Lucas also talks about user fees, another discussion was the housing problem in North Platte, and finally Lucas gave his perspective from the Union Pacific rail car that caught on fire last Thursday.&nbsp;

OGALLALA, NEB. - The Ogallala Regional Arts Council is getting ready to kick off their season of performances beginning with a concert coming up this Thursday, September 21st at 7:00 pm with Branden and James with Effie Passero. Branden and James are a cello and vocal due that travel around the United States and perform at concerts and events. Effie Passero is a singer who joins Branden and James at times when performing at events and concerts.&nbsp;

The event is taking place at the Ogallala Performing Arts Center. Tickets for the event cost $15 for adults and $7 for students. If you already purchased a membership, that would get you into the show. Memberships for the Ogallala Regional Arts Council will be sold at the show. NORTH PLATTE - The Prairie Arts Center will be holding its last ever football tailgate this Saturday when Nebraska takes on Louisiana Tech. The annual tailgate takes place in the parking lot on the big screen. The event which started during the 2017 spring game has been a big hit for the PAC. As time moves forwards, so does yearly events but the PAC wants this tailgate to go out with a bang.&nbsp;

Teams will be competing against one another to take home the top prize. The event begins at 2:00 pm central and tickets are $10. Bring a lawn chair to the event. NORTH PLATTE - The September Central Nebraska Real Estate Meetup is September 14th at Another's Round located at the Rivers Edge Golf Course in North Platte. The event is set to begin at 7:00pm with guest speaker Mike McCann. After the conclusion of the guest speaker is when it's time to socialize and network with other attendees at the event.&nbsp;

The event is designed to link with folks and help create networks. "The Central Nebraska Real Estate Meetup is a networking event," said Wayne Connell. "It's a meet and great and we take a little bit of time, we have a speaker that discusses something real estate related, invest related that's related to real estate and we do that for about 20-30 minutes than the rest of the time its networking."&nbsp;

The event is free for everyone to attend. This event is a great opportunity for folks who want to learn more about real estate or for folks who have a general knowledge, but it's a great opportunity to network with other folks.
