NORTH PLATTE – The 21st annual G.R.E.E.N. fundraising event for the North Platte Catholic Schools is planned for Saturday, October 21st at St. Patrick High School. Generating Resources for Educational Excellence Now is the largest single event of the year for the North Platte Catholic Schools Endowment Trust, which works year-round to generate around $600,000 for McDaid and St. Patrick’s schools.&nbsp; 

Endowment Director Wendy Dodson says that this year’s event will feature all of the things that supporters have loved about G.R.E.E.N. over the years… A delicious meal, an online silent auction, Heads or Tails game, Lucky Lotto drawing, live auction, and Spirit Wagon raffle. Plus, guests may also try their hand at the Wall of Wine and the Wall of Whiskey and enjoy some fun entertainment with the Polka Police.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dodson says that since the G.R.E.E.N. event began in 2003, it has generated over $2.1 million dollars in&nbsp; support of the North Platte Catholic Schools. These funds have been used to establish a teacher&nbsp; retirement fund, support general operations of McDaid and St. Patrick’s, fund school improvement&nbsp; projects and technology, and to provide tuition assistance for families.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Tickets to G.R.E.E.N. are $75 per person, which includes drinks, dinner &amp; entertainment. Call or visit the Endowment office to register: 308-534-5939, 601 S. NORTH PLATTE - The Rock Church in North Platte is hosting their annual RocktoberFest this Saturday beginning at 5:30 at the Rock Church. The event will have family friendly activities, chili and cinnamon rolls, live music, pumpkin painting, and so much more. The event is free for anyone to attend.&nbsp;&nbsp;

This event initially started off as a chili cookoff before being switched to something fun and new. "It started out as a chili cookoff in our church, and we wanted to show North Platte how much we love our community," said Rock Church Senior Pastor Vaughn Fahrenbruck. "Were very for North Platte, very for our community and decide let's open it up to the entire city." The Rock Church wanted to find ways to expand their chili cookoff and get the community involved and that's how RocktoberFest was created. "We wanted to make it as a popup pumpkin patch and let's make it fun and let's make it free," said Vaughn.&nbsp;

Post News Director Canon Rath caught up with Ashley Lewis from the Connection Homeless Shelter for their monthly conversation. This time, the two talked about the Out of the Box Challenge the Connection Homeless Shelter is hosting.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Connection Homeless Shelter is hosting a fundraiser event called the Out of the Box Challenge. The shelter wants to invite local businesses, emergency personnel services, or just anyone who wants to form a team and take part in the challenge. The Connection Shelter would like to have business show off their boxes from November 13th-16th which is Hunger/Homeless Awareness Month. The final day of the event is November 16th at Brigham's Taproom where the teams can show off their box and have members vote for who has the best box. There is a registration fee of $200 per team.&nbsp;

The idea of the challenge is to grab a box and build a house out of it. The fundraiser event is to help raise money for the homeless shelter. There are dimension rules on the box which have to be 4x4x4. If you would like to learn more about the event, check out the podcast above. &nbsp;

Post news director Canon Rath chatted with NPCC softball coach Janelle Higgins and Jada Florom about the Haunted Corn Maze that begins this weekend and runs through October.

NORTH PLATTE - The NPCC Softball team is excited to host the Haunted Corn Maze for the second straight year. Last year brought many screams as participants went through the maze. This is the 14th year of doing a fundraiser in October but 2nd year of the Haunted Maze.

The maze runs from 8:00pm -11:00pm on October 7th, 14th, 20th, 21st, 27th, 28th and of course on Halloween. The event cost $10 to get in the event. All proceeds go back to the softball program. If you would like to learn more about the event, check out the podcast above.

NORTH PLATTE - The 28th Annual Chili Cook-Off hosted by First National Bank of Omaha fundraiser event is set for October 6th from 11:30am - 1:30pm in the downtown parking lot of FNBO in North Platte. The event is the official kick off for the 2023-2024 Mid-Plains United Way campaign season.&nbsp;&nbsp;

FNBO is hosting the event while all the proceeds made from this event will go to Mid-Plain United Way. "This is the 28th annual and it's presented by First National Bank of Omaha and Mid-Plains United Way is super grateful for them (FNBO) to be hosting this for us," said Executive Director Haven Smith. "They provide the event and all the proceeds come back to Mid-Plains United Way." The money raised will be used to help support non-profit organizations in the region.&nbsp;

15 teams have signed up for this year's cook-off and it only cost $10 to get into the event. You can try all the chilis and see which team may have the best. The event is October 6th at the downtown FNBO parking lot from 11:30am - 1:30pm. The weather is looking more on the chilly side for Friday. NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte city council held their regular meeting on October 3rd and their were different discussion points on the agenda that was discussed amongst the council. A few discussion points including awarding the transportation staff for their help in the Sutherland Care Facility fire and Renee White for rookie of the year, water wells at the airport, action on ordinance 4137 (skill games), resolution for TIF at the new Murphy Tractor Site, and ordinance for sale of city industrial park lots.&nbsp;

A new water well is being built on property at the North Platte-Lee Bird Regional Airport to help improve water pressure and reliability on the east end of North Plate. "The water well will hook into the cities water system along Newberry Access on the east end of town," said North Platte Mayor Brandon Kelliher. "The water well will provide a little bit better water feed to the east end of town." With the new addition of the water well being built along Newberry Access, this will help serves the new industrial developments along Newberry Access.&nbsp;

Post's Derek Beck chatted with Autumn Schleicher from the Nebraska Department of Labor about how the last month of September is National Employee Older Workers Week and the Nebraska Department of Labor has programs for older workers to join their team.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The last week of September is dedicated as National Employee Older Workers Week and the week encourages employers to hire older workers to join their team. The Nebraska Department of Labor is always offering programs for workers 55 and older who want to get back into the work field. The Nebraska Department of Labor offers what's called the Senior Community Service Employment Program. The program is targeted at workers who are 55 and older, are unemployed and maybe looking to start a new career path. The program runs year-round but is limited spots.&nbsp;

The Nebraska Department of Labor is always offering programs for workers 55 and older who want to get back into the work field. The Nebraska Department of Labor offers what's called the Senior Community Service Employment Program. The program is targeted at workers who are 55 and older, are unemployed and maybe looking to start a new career path. The program runs year-round but is limited spots.&nbsp;</p><p>If you are interested in joining the Senior Community Service Employment Program, you can contact the Nebraska Department of Labor office at (308)-535-8320 or you can go to their office building in North Platte. Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Penny Craft about the Valve Cover Races coming up on October 28th.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Lincoln County Raceway is hosting their first ever Valve Cover Races on October 28th. The event geared towards a driver teaming up with 4-5 kids and competing in the races. The drivers will be the kid's mentors throughout the whole event from getting together to working on getting ready for the valve cover races and being a role model for their team.&nbsp;

Kids will receive a T-Shirt with their name and team name on it that they can wear to the day of the races. It is free for kids to participate in the event. Registration ends on October 1st. Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with councilman Ty Lucas about the September 19th North Platte City Council.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The September 19th North Platte City Council meeting has officially passed by. This week's city council meeting was a rather quick one as there was not a whole lot of agenda to discuss. The approval of fireworks for the North Platte Public Schools was granted, Ty Lucas also talks about user fees, another discussion was the housing problem in North Platte, and finally Lucas gave his perspective from the Union Pacific rail car that caught on fire last Thursday.&nbsp;

OGALLALA, NEB. - The Ogallala Regional Arts Council is getting ready to kick off their season of performances beginning with a concert coming up this Thursday, September 21st at 7:00 pm with Branden and James with Effie Passero. Branden and James are a cello and vocal due that travel around the United States and perform at concerts and events. Effie Passero is a singer who joins Branden and James at times when performing at events and concerts.&nbsp;

The event is taking place at the Ogallala Performing Arts Center. Tickets for the event cost $15 for adults and $7 for students. If you already purchased a membership, that would get you into the show. Memberships for the Ogallala Regional Arts Council will be sold at the show. Post News Director Canon Rath talked with Prairie Arts Center Executive Holly Carlini about the upcoming tailgate taking place this Saturday during the Nebraska V.S. Louisiana Tech game.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Prairie Arts Center will be holding its last ever football tailgate this Saturday when Nebraska takes on Louisiana Tech. The annual tailgate takes place in the parking lot on the big screen. The event which started during the 2017 spring game has been a big hit for the PAC. As time moves forwards, so does yearly events but the PAC wants this tailgate to go out with a bang.&nbsp;

Teams will be competing against one another to take home the top prize. The event begins at 2:00 pm central and tickets are $10. Bring a lawn chair to the event. There will be items auctioned off during the event. For more information about the tailgate, check out the podcast above. The Prairie Arts Center is open Tuesday - Saturday from 11am - 4pm. "It's a meet and great and we take a little bit of time, we have a speaker that discusses something real estate related, invest related that's related to real estate and we do that for about 20-30 minutes than the rest of the time its networking."&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The 20th Annual Fundraiser for the Gift of Hope Cancer Foundation is set for September 19th at the Lincoln County Fairground. The event is to help raise money for folks in the western part of the state with their battle with cancer. The event will feature a prime rib dinner and two complimentary drink tickets that can be used for beer or wine.&nbsp;

There will also be auctions of items throughout the evening. The schedule is looking like this: 5:00pm is Social Hour, 6:00pm is dinner, with the auction to follow. Kim Baxter will be performing live music throughout the event. Tickets are $25 (you can call Jan Cox to purchase those. North Platte/Sandhills Post News Director Canon Rath caught up with 4-H'er Ezri Bay and 4-H Youth Development Extension Educator Caitlyn Jacobson about the 4-H Dog Skillathon category.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - 4-H is America's largest youth development program across the United States that helps learn skills that will last a lifetime. The age requirement for 4-H is the ages of 8-18. There are many different categories that 4-H'ers can participate in during their time in the program. A unique category is Dog Skillathon.&nbsp;

The Dog Skillathon contest is an opportunity that 4-H'rs can patriciate and test their knowledge of dogs. "It's a giant mess test and it's kind of interesting and so you walk in this big room and there's a whole bunch of tables with different activities," said 4-H'er Ezri Bay. "They hand you a test and you go to one of the tables and at each table there's like questions and photos that go with you questions and you have to answer those."&nbsp;

North Platte Post News Director Canon Rath caught up with Father Jonathon Sorenson and Jory Torress about the upcoming St. Patrick's Church Block Party Weekend as the event is this Saturday and Sunday.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The St. Patricks Church in North Platte is hosting a Block Party this Saturday and Sunday at the church which is located at&nbsp;415 N Chestnut St in North Platte. The event, which is a rebranding of the BBQ, will have an adult setting for Saturday while Sunday is the family friendly day.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Saturday's event, which is set up for adults, will be a relaxed evening while folks can enjoy adult beverages and a nacho bar to enjoy. "We are going to have a beer garden, that will be a cash beer garden and a free will donation nacho bar," said Jory Torress. "We really just want to get everybody together and show the community that you can go to church and enjoy a drink responsibly with your parishioners and community."&nbsp;

Sunday will be geared towards the family friendly atmosphere and have plenty for everyone of all ages to enjoy Sunday's event. "On Sunday, we felt strongly having different events for all ages," said Torress. "It's hard to do creating events for all ages because high schoolers have different interest than toddlers." High schoolers will also be playing the role of helping run some of the events during Sunday's family day.&nbsp;

Also, what's going on starting September 13th – September 30th is change wars battle for education. These fun events lead up to the backyard BBQ on September 22nd before North Platte takes on Kearney High. The backyard BBQ is a friendly competition between community members. Proceeds will go to the Prepared to Learn Fund and Reach Grants which goes back to teachers,&nbsp;

Teams of 4-6 cost $20 and teams 7-9 cost $30, however there is very limited space. The limit will cap off at 20 teams. North Platte Post News Director Canon Rath talked with Paul Oettinger about the upcoming 5th Annual Western Nebraska Craft Beer Festival this Saturday at Pals Brewing Company in North Platte.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - Pals Brewing Company in North Platte will be the host site of the 5th Annual Western Nebraska Craft Beer Festival going on this Saturday from 4pm - 8pm (if you have a VIP ticket, the event runs from 3pm - 8 pm). The event features many vendors from across the state of Nebraska, the Pals food menu and different types of BBQ will be offered. Live music will be playing during the event.&nbsp;

The 5th Annual Western Nebraska Craft Beer Festival highlights brewers on the western side of the state but the event is welcome to all brewers in the state of Nebraska. "It's really a celebration of Western Nebraska craft beer," said Paul Oettinger. "Really it's for the whole state of Nebraska, we have couple Omaha breweries and a Norfolk brewery coming this year and we have about 10 or 12 of the Western Nebraska breweries that are going to be there”.&nbsp;

The event will feature a fruit beer where folks will try the fruit beers and vote on their favorite. At the end of the event, the winner will be announced. It will be a blind vote. Tickets to the event are still available. VIP tickets are sold out, but GA tickets are still available. Advanced tickets are $35, and at the door are $40. The event features many vendors from across the state of Nebraska, the Pals food menu and different types of BBQ will be offered. Live music will be playing during the event.&nbsp;</p><p>The 5th Annual Western Nebraska Craft Beer Festival highlights brewers on the western side of the state but the event is welcome to all brewers in the state of Nebraska. "It's really a celebration of Western Nebraska craft beer," said Paul Oettinger. "Really it's for the whole state of Nebraska, we have couple Omaha breweries and a Norfolk brewery coming this year and we have about 10 or 12 of the Western Nebraska breweries that are going to be there”.&nbsp;</p><p>The event will feature a fruit beer where folks will try the fruit beers and vote on their favorite. At the end of the event, the winner will be announced. It will be a blind vote. Tickets to the event are still available. VIP tickets are sold out, but GA tickets are still available. North Platte Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with North Platte Mayor Brandon Kelliher as they recapped the September 5th, North Platte City Council meeting.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The September 5th North Platte City Council meeting has officially come and gone and there were different discussion points from the meeting. From the latest city council meeting, there were different agenda the council talked about celebrations at creativity arts council, public hearing on potentially converting a former church into a venue, and budget public hearing are just a few to list off.&nbsp;

A big chunk of the last city council meeting was a public hearing about converting a church into a venue. The venue would offer different events and parties but there was a good amount of concern heading into the hearing. “The purpose was to convert the church into a venue space and people can host parties and that sort of thing in this space,” said North Platte Mayor Brandon Kelliher. “The area residents were concerned about the possibility of having increase traffic and things like that and they came to express their concerns.”&nbsp;

GOTHENBURG, NEB. - The 2023 Friend's Festival is quickly approaching for the community of Gothenburg as they get ready to host folks from around the state. The event, which quicks off September 13th and runs through September 17th has something for everyone to enjoy. On Saturday, September 16th, there will be a cornhole tournament, beer garden, and live music.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The cornhole&nbsp;tournament is 21+ to participate due to the beer garden. There will also be a burger meal fundraiser run&nbsp;by the Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department. Performing during the tournament will be the Kyle Sayler Band which won the 2023 Nebraska State Fair Battle of the Bands and opened for county artist Lee Brice.
