Kearney, Neb. – Redshirt senior point guard Jillian Aschoff recorded the second triple double in school history as Nebraska Kearney blasted Chadron State, 90-46, Tuesday night at the Health &amp; Sports Center.

The Lopers (6-6) now have a healthy 63-13 series lead over the Eagles (0-8).

Aschoff (Lincoln Pius X) began the year on pace to break UNK's career assist record (390, Alex Hogberg, '17) in early 2026. That timeline has moved a bit after a 15-point, 13-assist, 12-rebound effort tonight. Aschoff moves past Tami Tully (373; '95) into second place (383) and will need just eight more dimes on Sunday afternoon vs. South Dakota Mines.

Last year, senior wing Samantha Moore had UNK's first-ever triple double (16 points/10 rebounds/10 assists) in a home win over York. Tonight, Aschoff had a double double (11 points/10 rebounds/seven assists) at the break. Finally, Darcy Stracke holds the single game assist record with 14 in a Feb. 1998 win over Fort Hays State.

The two teams combined for just nine points over the first five minutes, but eventually the Lopers warmed up. They tallied at least 19 points in each quarter and ended up shooting 61% (36 of 59) from the field, the 10th best effort in school history. UNK also tallied 40 points off 29 Eagle miscues and was 10 of 12 at the line.

Diller freshman guard Myleigh Weers (22), Polish senior wing Malgorzata Byczkowska (11) and Kansas senior reserve point guard Saniya Simmons (10) all joined Aschoff as Lopers in double figures. Weers and Byczkowska each hit three triples with Simmons having seven of UNK's 19 steals. Finally, Blair true freshman Addie Sullivan tallied her first collegiate bucket as all 11 healthy Lopers played and scored.

Terence “Bud” Crawford, the undefeated boxing champion from Omaha, Nebraska, has announced his retirement from professional boxing at age 38, bringing an end to one of the most remarkable careers in the sport’s modern era.

Crawford’s decision comes amid recent controversy involving a world title and a dispute over sanctioning fees, but his retirement announcement focused less on belts and business and more on legacy, family, and walking away on his own terms.

Earlier this month, the World Boxing Council (WBC) stripped Omaha native Terence “Bud” Crawford of its super-middleweight world title, citing unpaid sanctioning fees tied to his recent fights. The organization said it made multiple attempts to contact Crawford and his representatives before taking action.

Crawford responded forcefully in a video posted to Instagram, using strong language to criticize the WBC and its leadership. In the video, Crawford rejected the fee demand outright, saying, “I ain’t paying your ass s**t.”

He questioned why the WBC’s fees differed from those of other sanctioning bodies, saying, “What makes you so [better] than any of the other sanctioning bodies? … everybody accepted what I was giving them — but you.”

Reilly set the Huskers to a school-record .351 hitting percentage, as the Big Red concluded their season with a 33-1 overall record and 20-0 mark in Big Ten play en route to a third straight conference title.&nbsp;

Reilly averaged 10.47 assists per set and 2.70 digs per set. She also totaled 73 kills, 67 blocks and 19 aces.&nbsp;

Reilly was named Big Ten Player of the Year, as well as Big Ten Setter of the Year and All-Big Ten First Team for the third time. NU's .351 hitting percentage ranks first nationally and is the best hitting percentage by a Big Ten team since 2009 Penn State.

Lincoln&nbsp;- Petra Bozan scored 14 points to lead four Huskers in double figures, as No. 24 Nebraska remained unbeaten with a dominant 85-44 women’s basketball win over Illinois State on Sunday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Bozan, who added six rebounds and a career-high-tying three blocks, was joined in double figures by Britt Prince (13), Amiah Hargrove (11) and Eliza Maupin (11) to help the Huskers improve to 11-0 by scoring 80 or more points for the school-record 11th consecutive game.

While Nebraska's offense continued to operate with efficiency against a stingy Redbird defense that had not allowed an opponent to score 80 points on the season, the Big Red defense was tremendous.&nbsp;

The Huskers held Illinois State (5-6) to just two points in the first period - the fewest ever allowed by the Big Red in an opening quarter - as the Huskers ran to a 21-2 lead.

Hargrove led the Huskers with seven off the bench in the quarter, while Prince added four points, and Logan Nissley and Kennadi Williams pitched in three-pointers for the Big Red in the period.

Nebraska kept the lead at 40-21 at halftime thanks to seven second-quarter points from Maupin and six from Callin Hake.

No. 24 Huskers storm past Illinois State

LINCOLN, Neb. - A memorable comeback attempt fell just short for the Nebraska volleyball team Sunday afternoon in a five-set loss to No. 6 Texas A&amp;M in front of 8,650 fans at John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Texas A&amp;M won the first two sets to become just the third team this season to win two sets against the Huskers. Facing a 2-0 deficit, Nebraska fought back to win the third set then fought off three match points en route to winning the fourth set, 37-35. But the Huskers were unable to complete the comeback as the Aggies were victorious in the fifth set by a 15-13 margin.

Nebraska ended its season with a 33-1 record while Texas A&amp;M (27-4) advanced to the NCAA Semifinals. Kyndal Stowers (25) and Logan Lednicky (24) each finished with more than 20 kills for Texas A&amp;M, while Morgan Perkins had nine blocks.

Harper Murray paced the Husker offense with a career-high 25 kills, but Texas A&amp;M had more kills (75 to 73) and a higher attack percentage (.275 to .270) than Nebraska. The No. 23/22 Nebraska men's basketball team gets ready for its toughest test of the season Saturday, as the Huskers travel to No. 13 Illinois. The Huskers head to Champaign with a 10-0 record following a 90-60 victory over Wisconsin Wednesday evening in NU's Big Ten opener. Rienk Mast's 17 points and 10 rebounds led a balanced attack which featured five players in double figures. Nebraska shot 54 percent from the field against a Wisconsin defense which had held its last 15 opponents to under 50 percent shooting dating back to last year. The Huskers held Wisconsin to 60 points after the Badgers entered the game averaging nearly 88 points per contest.

The Huskers have relied on a strong defense, ranking second in the Big Ten and in the top 20 nationally in field goal defense (.375) entering Saturday's game. NU has held five of its last six opponents to under 40 percent shooting.&nbsp;The Huskers have a chance to set two longstanding program records on Saturday. Two former North Platte High alumni collect All-American honors

North Platte, Neb. – Breonna Shelby notched her first career double-double, posting 12 points and 11 rebounds to power North Platte to an 84-50 win over Hastings College JV on Tuesday night.

Reece Yahn recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the field to accompany her 10 rebounds. Alexa Stevens led all scorers with 21 points, while Dezirae Gonzales rounded out the North Platte players in double figures with 12 points.

"It was nice to see the ball go in tonight," said head coach Jeff Thurman. "I thought we played well defensively in the second half."

The opening quarter was tightly contested, but the Knights broke things open in the second with a 16–2 run sparked by an old-fashioned three-point play from Aliyah Herron. Hastings briefly halted the run with back-to-back threes, but North Platte maintained control and carried a 45–29 lead into halftime.

North Platte kept the pressure on to open the third quarter, stringing together an 8-0 run capped by a deep three from Shelby. Hastings eventually settled in and found some rhythm from long range but still faced a 64-41 deficit headed into the fourth quarter.

In the final quarter, North Platte’s defense clamped down, holding the Broncos to just nine points while stretching their lead to 34 by the final buzzer.

"We need to carry this momentum into this weekend as we travel to Riverton and play two tough Region 9 North teams," Thurman said.

Knights (3-8) return to action on Friday in the Holiday Classic Presented by Hampton Inn in Riverton, Wyo. North Platte opens the tournament with Central Wyoming College at 8 p.m. inside the Rustler Gym.

North Platte, Neb. – The North Platte Community College men’s basketball team used a dominant start to cruise to a 90-55 win over Hastings College JV on Monday night.

Justus Michael and Winston Allen led the Knights with 16 points each, while Daniel Nwauzu tallied six rebounds to accompany his 13 points.

“Our tempo was really good from start to finish," said head coach Jacob Brandl. "I saw some flashes of really good defense like we had at the beginning of the year.”

North Platte wasted no time establishing control. A three pointer from Brady Kennison fueled a 9-0 opening run, as the Knights defense continued to stifle the Broncos. A transition dunk by Justus Michael stretched the lead to 30-15 with 4:40 remaining in the first half. The Knights continued to dominate down the stretch and took a commanding 41–16 lead into halftime.

North Platte carried its momentum into the second half, outscoring the Broncos 26-15 by the 12-minute timeout. The Knights never relinquished control, extending the margin to 35 points by the final buzzer.

"We need to continue this momentum into next week as we go into a really tough environment and have two really tough road games," Brandl said.

Knights (7-6) return to action on Dec. 16 against New Mexico Junior College. Tip is set for 7 p.m. in the Caster Activity Center at Hobbs, N.M.

The North Platte High School IronDawgs made the&nbsp;four-hour trek to Creighton Prep on Saturday for the annual Early Bird meet. Twenty North Platte lifters participated in the squat, bench press, and deadlift against more than 150 other lifters. The IronDawgs came home with thirteen medalists, including two champions.&nbsp;

Coach Arttie Parker praised his team's efforts, from top to bottom of the roster. 

"We knew coming into this meet that we would be without two of our returning Nationals lifters, as Myah Porter and Aadyn Smith are both recovering from injuries. This is always a fun, competitive meet, as it gives the new athletes a taste of what a full gym of strong athletes feels like, and it gives the seasoned kids a chance to square off against kids they will be facing at the state tournament&nbsp;and USAPL events. I'm very proud of how these kids came in, challenged themselves, pushed their limits, and competed," he said.

On the girls' side, medalists were led by Grace Wilke, who left Creighton as the champion in her weight division. Other medalists were Abbie Hankla and Katie Titus, who both finished second, Gabby Gartner, Karly Knapp, Jayden McBeain, and Adyson Stroud, who each took home third-place medals, and Carlie Berliner, who placed fifth.&nbsp;For the boys, Charlie Fonseca took home the gold at 198 pounds, while teammates Bode Kroon (2nd), Cole Tomlinson (3rd), Mason Stine (4th), and Zane Gilbert (5th) also medaled.&nbsp;A handful of lifters will be lifting in two weeks in Lexington at a USAPL meet, as they attempt to punch their ticket to the Nationals tournament, which will be held in Killeen, Texas, in March. 

The team will be off for the holidays before returning to competition at the State USAPL tournament in Lincoln in January.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dennis Rocha finished the game with a team-high 23 points and nine rebounds. Justus Michael (18), Brady Kennison (18) and Sedrick Nari (14) rounded out the North Platte scorers in double figures.

"We made way too many mental mistakes that gave them easy shots around the rim in the first half” said head coach Jacob Brandl. “We made some adjustments at the break and played a great second half.”

The opening twenty minutes featured a back-and-forth battle, with neither team able to gain much separation. Eastern Wyoming used a late surge, closing the half on a 12-2 run, but a deep three from Daniel Benjamin in the final seconds helped North Platte cut the deficit to 43-37 at the break.

Kennison ignited a 10-0 run by connecting from long range to knot the game up at 49-49 with 16:50 remaining. The teams continued trading blows, resulting in 10 ties in the second half. North Platte made the most of their opportunities down the stretch using a 16–2 run to secure the road win.

"Felt like this was a must win, and we had a lot of guys step up and make big plays," Brandl said.

Knights (6-6) return to action at home on Monday against Hastings College JV. Tip is set for 7 p.m. in the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

Knights rebound in second half to defeat Lancers

Torrington, Wyo. – The North Platte women’s basketball team fell to Eastern Wyoming on Saturday afternoon, 72-53.

Reece Yahn led the Knights with 11 points, knocking down all three of her attempts from beyond the arc, while Joie Rodriguez anchored the effort on the glass with five rebounds.

"If we do not defend and fight, these will be the outcomes of our games moving forward," said head coach Jeff Thurman. “We played with no passion and heart today on the defensive end.”

Eastern Wyoming set the tone early, holding the Knights to just three points while scoring 14 of their own to open the game. A jumper from Alexa Stevens helped North Platte find some rhythm as the Knights went on to score eight of the next 18 points but trailed 24-13 headed into the second.

The Lancers put together a 7-0 run heading into the first media timeout of the second quarter. North Platte responded with a quick basket, but Eastern Wyoming countered with another 8-0 surge. The Knights closed the half on a positive note, outscoring the Lancers over the final minutes, but still entered the break facing a 17-point deficit.

North Platte chipped away in the third, trimming the margin to 11 with 1:30 remaining in the third quarter. The Lancers responded with four quick points to close the frame with a double-digit lead.
