NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — North Platte High School football player Brecken Korkow is recognized as last week's North Platte Area High School Student-Athlete of the Week following a strong performance against Norfolk.
Korko helped the Bulldogs get back to 3-3 on the season, contributing to a key performance against the Panthers as the team looks to build momentum heading into the second half of the season.
Going into the game, Korkow said he hoped to help teammate Connor Stifler break out with a big run. Instead, Stifler helped set up Korkow for a big play of his own.
“It was a lot of fun,” Korkow said, describing the preparation and intensity surrounding the matchup against Norfolk.
Korkow said the running backs work together as a unit, supporting one another through blocking and creating opportunities on the field. Along with Stifler and Tyce Rathbun, he described the group as one big family.
That sense of teamwork extends throughout the Bulldogs' program. Korkow said the team emphasizes a weekly word to help players stay focused, support one another and give their best effort.
He said the message helps keep everyone on the same page, with teammates pushing one another to work hard and avoid taking plays off.
Looking ahead, Korkow said the Bulldogs are eager to take the field Friday. He believes the upcoming game will test the team's ability to maintain its intensity regardless of the opponent.
“We just have to go out there and play our football and hopefully we get a win,” Korkow said.
Away from football, Korkow shared that his ideal meal would be teriyaki stir-fry over white rice, reflecting his appreciation for vegetables and stir-fry dishes.
Korkow is the North Platte Area High School Student-Athlete of the Week, recognized for his performance, commitment to his teammates and contributions to the Bulldogs' season.
