OMAHA – A national civil rights group on Tuesday condemned the recent distribution of antisemitic literature in a west Omaha neighborhood near a Jewish synagogue.

A spokesman with the Council on American-Islamic Relations said that it’s a favorite tactic of white supremacist groups to fill bags or envelopes with rice or gravel so that they can be thrown, containing hateful statements, onto a home’s driveway or porch.

“Almost on a daily basis we’re issuing one of these statements,” said Ibrahim Hooper, of the Washington, D.C.-based CAIR group, condemning such distributions.

Omaha television station Fox 42 first reported the distribution of antisemitic literature in the neighborhood near the Beth Israel Synagogue, which is at 126th and Pacific Streets.

Lt. Neal Bonacci of the Omaha Police Department said police are aware of the incident and are investigating.

There was no immediate information about who was responsible for the distribution of the antisemitic literature.

A message seeking comment from the Anti-Defamation League was not immediately returned Tuesday evening.

Hooper said CAIR and the American Muslim community oppose all forms of bigotry, including antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia and white supremacy.
