PSC Awards 20 Million in Nebraska Broadband Bridge Program Grants

Lincoln, January 14, 2025- The Nebraska Public Service Commission approved an Order(C-5561 ) awarding 22 grants totaling more than $20 million from the Nebraska Broadband Bridge Program (NBBP), the 4th grant cycle administered by the Commission through the program.

“The Nebraska Broadband Bridge Program has proven to be an effective tool to help bring broadband to unserved and underserved Nebraskans,” said Commission Chair Tim Schram.

Created by the Nebraska Broadband Bridge Act (Neb. Rev. Stat § 86 -301 to 86-1310), the NBBP provides approximately $20 million dollars annually for the development of broadband networks capable of at least 100/100 Mbps (down/up) in unserved and underserved areas of the state.

During the 2024 grant cycle, the Commission received, 27 applications for funding through the NBBP. Upon review of the applications and the challenges received the Commission determined22 submissions would be funded. The grants awarded, submitted by five providers, total$20,270,725. The deadline for projects funded through today’s awards is July 14, 2026.

Through four years of the program, the Commission has awarded over 140 grants, bringing broadband to more than 18,000 households.

Commissioner Schram said, “We are pleased to be able to support broadband expansion across the state through the NBBP and we look forward to the completion of these projects.”
