The Prairie Arts Center is welcoming August with a lineup of new art exhibits, expanded ceramics classes and continued opportunities for the public to explore local art, shop unique gifts and rent event spaces.
Executive Director Holly Carlini said the center recently installed several new galleries, including Signs of Rural Life, a juried exhibit featuring artwork from artists across the United States.
"It was an open exhibit, so whoever entered pieces just had to follow that theme," Carlini said. "It's always fun because you never know what people's perceptions are of a title."
Visitors can also explore a new railroad photography exhibit in partnership with the Golden Spike Tower during Rail Days. The public is invited to vote for their favorite photograph, with awards to be presented to participating photographers.
Additional exhibits include a blown glass collection from Keith and Holly House, ocean paintings by Jerry Ulrich and a printmaking exhibit honoring longtime North Platte High School art teacher Gary Bargell.
Beyond the galleries, Carlini said the Prairie Arts Center continues to offer locally made artwork and gifts in its shop, with Wildflower Wednesday providing shoppers a 15% discount every Wednesday.
The center also rents spaces for meetings, weddings, receptions, graduation parties and other community events, with rooms available for groups of various sizes.
Ceramics programming has expanded in response to growing demand. Adult-only glazing sessions are now offered Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., while Friday and Saturday hours have also been extended.
Carlini said the classes provide a welcoming space for both experienced artists and beginners looking for a relaxing creative outlet.
The Prairie Arts Center is open Tuesday through Saturday, and admission to the galleries is free.
