OMAHA, NE — The Platte Institute is proud to announce a new in-depth blog post aimed at setting the record straight on Nebraska's Opportunity Scholarships Act, enacted in LB 753, dispelling misinformation, and underscoring the benefits of school choice for Nebraska families.

"In the face of myths circulating about the school choice program in Nebraska, we have chosen to illuminate the facts," says Jim Vokal, Chief Executive Officer of Platte Institute. "We believe that every family in Nebraska should have access to the education that best suits their children's needs. School choice does not defund public schools, but rather offers an innovative and necessary competitive aspect that incentivizes all schools to improve."

In this blog post, the Platte Institute dissects five common myths surrounding school choice, including accusations of defunding public schools, suggestions that public schools become stronger without competition, claims that school choice harms students who remain in public schools, assertions that school choice only benefits the rich, and the notion that Nebraska is an outlier in enacting school choice. Each of these myths is rigorously examined and debunked, providing a clearer picture of the reality facing Nebraska.

"The Platte Institute stands firm in its belief that competition in education, just like in business, leads to improvement and innovation," adds Vokal. "Nebraska families, regardless of their income, should have the power to decide what's best for their children's education."
