Rian Camty, 14, an 8th grade student at Millard North Middle School in Omaha advanced to the Wednesday quarterfinals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, according to the bee web site. He did not advance to the semi finals.
Sixty spellers were eliminated in preliminary spelling and vocabulary rounds. That left 183 who took the written spelling and vocabulary test. That test eliminated 84 more. The quarterfinals on Wednesday began with 99 spellers and 60 advanced to the semifinals.
