3 children dead after car, semi crash on Kansas highway

FORD COUNTY, Kan.—Three children from Iowa died in an accident just after 3:30p.m. Saturday in Ford County, Kansas.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by David C. Clements, 43, West Des Moines, IA, was westbound on U.S. Highway 54 eight miles west of the Kansas Highway 34 Junction.

The sedan traveled left of center and struck an eastbound 2018 Freightliner semi driven by Ali Hassani, 30, Portland, Oregon.

Three passengers identified as 12-year-old Juno Clements, 10-year-old Arabella Clements and 7-year-old Harper Clements all of  Johnson, Iowa, were pronounced dead at the scene.

EMS transported David Clements to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. Hassani was not injured.

The 10-year-old and 7-year-old were not properly restrained, according to the the KHP.
