For Immediate Release

Scottsbluff and North Platte will host upcoming workshops aimed at helping agricultural producers better prepare for and respond to drought conditions.
Nebraska Extension is offering a program titled “Tools & Tactics for Managing Drought” on April 21 in Scottsbluff and April 22 in North Platte.
The sessions are designed to give producers practical insight into using drought monitoring and forecasting tools, evaluating risk, and making informed management decisions. Attendees will also learn about available resources and strategies to reduce the impact of dry conditions.
Mitch Stephenson, Nebraska Extension rangeland management specialist in Scottsbluff, said the workshop also provides an opportunity for producers to share what they are seeing firsthand.
“This is an opportunity to interact with the Nebraska State Climate Office and National Drought Mitigation Center to share what people are seeing on the land and learn about new tools and drought management strategies,” Stephenson said.
Topics will include understanding drought data and forecasts, evaluating impacts and risk, exploring management options, and improving information sharing among producers and agencies.
The Scottsbluff workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 21 at the Panhandle Research, Extension and Education Center. The North Platte session is scheduled for the same time April 22 at the West Central Research, Extension and Education Center.
There is no cost to attend, but space is limited. Lunch will be provided. The deadline to register is April 17 at nsco.unl.edu.
The workshops are a joint effort of the Nebraska State Climate Office, Nebraska Extension, the National Drought Mitigation Center, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Natural Resources.
