ELKHORN, Neb.-An Elkhorn Public Schools staff member has been arrested, accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, on June 16 law enforcement authorities received a complaint alleging relations between Elkhorn South's band director, Dr. Michelle Buford, and a former student.
Officials said the investigation revealed a relationship between Buford and the student that lasted three years.
Authorities said the relationship included predatory grooming behaviors and eventually sexual contact.
Police said the alleged victim and their family has been interviewed and the school district is fully cooperating.
Following the investigation, Buford was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse.
The investigation is ongoing.
