Prosecutors: Omaha couple sentenced in child care fraud case

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - An Omaha couple has been sentenced for filing fraudulent claims for government payments associated with their child care business, federal prosecutors for Nebraska said.

Prosecutors said Friday in a news release that Abdikadir Miji, 32, was sentenced to eight months in federal prison and ordered to pay more than $100,000 in restitution, while Naimi Haji, 29, was sentenced to five years' probation and ordered to pay nearly $43,000 in restitution.

Investigators said the couple owned Comfort Home Care and M&N Day Care Center child care centers in Omaha, which had contracts with the state to receive government reimbursement payments. Investigators said the couple submitted claims inflating the number of children attending their centers to get more in payments.
