Vulnerable Road User (VRU) Assessment Meeting to be held August 8, 2023 in Lincoln

Posted Jul 31, 2023 2:00 PM

July 31, 2023 (Lincoln, Neb.) — The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT), law enforcement, and health agencies are hosting a stakeholder meeting regarding the statewide Vulnerable Road User (VRU) Assessment.

In January 2022, an updated version of Nebraska’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan was finalized. This data-driven, strategic plan makes progress towards the state’s goal of eliminating fatal and serious injury crashes.

To continue these efforts and support the plan, we are creating a new Vulnerable Road User  Assessment. Anyone who walks, bikes, or rolls on or across Nebraska roads is a vulnerable road user. This assessment is intended to protect and improve the conditions for vulnerable road users across the state.

We value your input and hope you can join us on August 8, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the NDOT Auditorium (1500 Nebraska Pkwy, Lincoln, NE 68502). The meeting will include a presentation by the project team at 5:15 p.m. followed by an open house featuring display boards.

We would also like to invite you to participate in a short online survey to help us develop the VRU Assessment. Please complete the survey at ndot.info/VRUsurvey. The survey will be open for responses from July 31 through August 14, 2023.

We encourage you to share this meeting invite with your colleagues, friends and family. If you have any questions, please contact us.
