LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A woman who refused to put on a mask when being treated for COVID-19 at a Nebraska hospital spit on the walls and floor and punched a nurse, police said.

Nyadak Tut, 48, of Lincoln was charged on Friday with felony assault on a health care professional, the Lincoln Journal Star reported.

A nurse at CHI St. Elizabeth told police she was on duty on May 11 when she heard Tut begin to yell and went to check on her, according to an arrest affidavit. Tut left her room without wearing a mask.

The nurse told police she followed Tut, who has COVID-19, asking her to put on a mask, but she refused and started spitting. When the nurse went to call security for help, Tut allegedly punched her in the face with both fists, according to the affidavit from Lincoln police officer Joseph Fisher.

Police arrested Tut after she was medically cleared from the hospital.
