Police arrest suspect in April killing of 16-year-old Kan. boy

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating the fatal shooting in April of a Kansas teen have arrested Clint William Smith, 23, of Topeka, according to Police Lt. Shane Hilton.

Just before 7:30p.m. April 15, police were dispatched to the area of 6th Avenue and SE Chandler Street in Topeka in reference to a shooting.

Police found 16-year-old Emmanuel I. Torres suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased by medical care personnel, according to Lt. Edward Stanley.

Smith is being held on requested charges of Murder in the 1st degree and Aggravated Assault; Use of a deadly weapon, according to Hilton.

Just before 7:30p.m. Thursday, police were dispatched to the area of 6th Avenue and SE Chandler Street in Topeka. in reference to a shooting, according to Lt. Edward Stanley.

Police found the Torres suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased by medical care personnel. 

Police have not reported an arrest or released additional details as the Homicide Unit reviews all investigative leads and evidence.
