Sheriff: Kan. man thought he contacted teen for sex

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement autdhorities are investigating a 50-year-old man following the investigation of the electronic solicitation of a child.

On March 15, the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding the online solicitation of a child by an adult suspect, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

Just before 3p.m. Friday, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division apprehended William L. Brown III of Topeka who allegedly attempted to coerce an individual, whom he believed to be a 15-year-old girl, to engage in sexual acts.

Brown arrived at an undisclosed location and was taken into custody. He is being held in the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of electronic solicitation and sexual exploitation of a child, according to Christian.
