CURTIS, Neb. — Two individuals were taken into custody Tuesday following a law enforcement incident in Curtis that prompted a temporary hold at Medicine Valley Schools.

According to a press release from the Frontier County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop Bryan Werkmeister on March 31 on a Lincoln County warrant. Authorities say Werkmeister fled from a deputy and entered a residence at 411 Howard Avenue.

Before deputies could fully establish a perimeter, a second male exited the home through the back door and fled the area. Law enforcement secured the scene and began issuing announcements over a loudspeaker for Werkmeister to exit the residence.

Officials said Werkmeister did not comply, and a search warrant was obtained. Deputies then entered the home. As officers made entry, Werkmeister exited through another door and was taken into custody at the perimeter. He was transported to the Lincoln County Detention Center.

The second individual was later identified as Michael B. Cox. According to authorities, Cox had an active Frontier County warrant for flight to avoid arrest. He was located and taken into custody at another location in Curtis shortly after Werkmeister’s arrest.

Medicine Valley Schools were placed on hold during the incident as a precaution.

The Frontier County Sheriff’s Office said it was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol and Nebraska Game and Parks. No injuries were reported.
