January 25, 2025 (Omaha, Neb.) — One person is in custody, and nobody is injured, after an incident that included an officer-involved shooting early this morning in Omaha.
Preliminary information shows that at approximately 12:40 a.m. Saturday, a trooper attempted a traffic stop on a Jeep Commander for speeding while traveling westbound on Interstate 80 near 96th Street. The driver refused to stop, and the trooper initiated a pursuit.
The pursuit came to an end at an apartment complex near 108th and Harrison Streets, where troopers attempted a felony traffic stop. As troopers were giving commands to exit the vehicle, the driver rammed three NSP patrol units, a garage, and a retaining wall at the apartment complex. Officers from several other agencies began responding as well.
The driver then drove toward troopers who were outside their patrol units, at which point two troopers fired shots toward the driver. The driver was not struck and was able to drive a short distance before crashing into multiple parked vehicles in the parking lot, disabling the suspect’s vehicle.
At that point another trooper deployed a taser and troopers took the driver into custody. Neither the suspect nor any troopers were injured during this incident. Alcohol is believed to be a factor and will be part of the investigation. The suspect will be lodged in jail on several charges.
Further information will be released when possible.
