The best of the 70s 80s and 90s fm 98 One and 14 10 am at Scotty C in the morning joined this morning by Jeff Smeltzer from Northland Community College, our weekly conversation with the Business and Community Education Department. Jeff, thanks for coming in. Oh, you bet. Good morning. So we were talking, first of all, dang, we got above zero. So we're both happy for that. And where to ball me one balmy why me? Why are you right now. And it is 909 in the city, Jeff here to talk about obviously some cool offerings at North Platte Community College. Let's start with that trucking class. We were talking about that the last week we didn't have a date nailed down. But yeah, we do.
What's finally we kept saying coming in. In 2022 CDL truck driving class. Well, we have a date. Now it is right around the corner. March 28, is when we're going to start this class. It's a five-week class. Couple requirements, you do need to have your commercial Learner's Permit before you can take the class got to make sure you're legal to drive our vehicle. The cost of the class is its five week class, you're gonna get about 200 hours of training. Half of it being in the classroom, half of it being behind the wheel. We're going to provide the truck and trailer and the instruction obviously, cost of the class is 3950. Just a hair under $4,000 for five weeks. Good thing is there is financial assistance available for those who qualify. Okay. So don't let cost of the class scary, there's a good chance you might qualify for some financial assistance. That's exciting. That's a big program that the department has worked on for a long time and it's finally coming to fruition. Yeah, I mean, I think before he had to go to Hastings to get this kind of training, so you had to drive now you can get out of the area. That's awesome. Good stuff. What else we got going on? Well, we want to talk about it's gonna get warm next week eventually. Yeah, yes. Some fun in person things. Of course, these are still inside. We've got some weightlifting classes coming up in March. Five week classes. We've got coed weightlifting starting on Monday, March 7, it's in the evening. 630 To 730 cost of that is $69. If you wait two days on Wednesdays, ladies, we've got women's only weightlifting. 630 to 730, Wednesday nights for five weeks $69 for that as well. I shouldn't say women only we do have an opportunity for youth. If you're 13 years or older. There there will be an opportunity for you to lift on those Wednesday nights as well. Yeah, Camden grasp, make our trainer Certified Trainer out of the college he works with all the athletes out there, he instructs that class he's fantastic, fun guy and you're gonna learn a lot. Yeah, it's gonna make you work but you're gonna get your money's important. Obviously, not only the health benefits but important to know how to live properly because you really hurt yourself and Camden like you said an expert. So yes, he's gonna teach you the proper ways to lift we think we know how to lift weights, but he go to the gym, you can see well, correct? Yes. So make sure you're doing it. Right. Right. weightlifting and what else Jeff, I know you got more, we got more Mark work Meister is going to put on a financial survival for retirement class. That is a two two evening class is going to be done to march 8, march 15. Okay, but I had that in front of me. I don't know what day of the week that is. March 8, and March 15, from six to 940 $9. You can do that as a couple the $49 will cover both of you if you come as a couple, three hours each evening Mark might have some new challenges looks like the markets taking a turn with the world events. Oh, for sure. Definitely will he'll have some great advice for you. So we encourage everybody come out and take that class. It's it's a great one we did doing it for years. And I've always said you're never too young to think about retirement. I mean that money spins a lot faster than it earns and builds up. So a great opportunity mark, obviously very knowledgeable in the financial realm. And as you said, a different scenario for things just changed in a hurry. Yes, they did. literally overnight. Okay, let's look at outside things. Let's get outside. I think next week people are going to be itching to get their bikes out and they want to ride their motorcycles if you've never had one or you would like to take a motorcycle safety class. Our first one is the weekend of April 9 and 10th at the college motorcycle safety $229 for the two days it's a great class you'll get a voucher when it's done to go ahead and take it to the DMV and get your endorsement put on your license you'll be ready to ride Yeah, for sure. Hey, no big deal to you got to pass that test. And yes, and I for one would have no clue what I was doing. So I need a class like this. If I want to ride a motorcycle, motorcycle season though right around the corner.
Finally, if you want to want to take some zoom classes if you want to get back inside, see in the warmth of your house. We've got two really cool ones coming up in March. We talked about this one before the great detective some film and literature. That's going to be a four-week class starting on March 22. It's zoom you can take it anywhere even outside of our college area. You could take it out of state if you want to do $69 for the four weeks, meets for two hours each evening starting on March 22. In Central Time is from seven to nine. Great class. Another one. I don't know if we mentioned this one before propaganda in the Third Reich. Oh, that might be time to get a little historical. Yes. That's going to be on Mondays starting March 25. Again, that's four weeks. Zoom. And take it anywhere comfort of your recliner at home. $69 for that class as well, seven to nine on those Monday nights, for sure, man, great opportunities to learn. You're never we said you're never too young to start planning for retirement. You're never too old to learn. That's right as well. And it good. They say keeps you young and it does in pcc.edu.
