Kan. man dead, 3 hospitalized after 3-vehicle crash

FORD COUNTY—A Kansas man died in an accident just before 5:3oa.m. Saturday in Ford County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2015 Chevy Camaro driven by Mike Hernandez, 24, Dodge City, was west bound on U.S. 400 approximately one mile east of U.S. 56.

The Camaro crossed the center line and collided with a westbound 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by Elias Castro Castro, 22, Dodge City.

After impact, a westbound 2015 Volvo semi driven by Long, Lester Monroe Long, 41, Kansas City, struck the Camaro and the Grand Caravan.

The Camaro rotated into the west bound lanes where it came to rest. The van overturned on the roadway before coming to a stop in the west  ditch along with the semi. 

Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.

EMS transported Casto, Long and a passenger in the Camaro identified as Jasmine Mariah Mata, 24, Dodge City, to Western Plains Medical Center. Mata was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
