June 28, 2025 (Ashland, Neb.) — The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating an incident in which a person died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound near Ashland. The incident occurred in the presence of an Ashland Police Officer.
At approximately 4:30 a.m. Saturday, NSP was contacted by the Ashland Police Department regarding an incident that had just occurred. Preliminary investigation shows that an Ashland Police Officer had responded to a report of a crash near the intersection of Highway 6 and Highway 63, southwest of Ashland.
Upon arrival, the officer observed the driver involved in the crash outside the vehicle. The subject then pulled out a handgun and shot himself. There is no indication that the officer fired any shots during the incident.
