Nebraska ranchers take great pride in producing delicious, high-quality beef to feed our state, nation, and world! Beef is part of a nutritious, healthy diet. When consumers eat beef, they support the industry and encourage economic growth in Nebraska. Here are some facts from Governor Jim Pillen's "May is Beef Month" proclamation:

  1. Agriculture is Nebraska's number one industry, and beef is the state's largest segment of production.
  2. Nebraska ranks as the number one state for beef and veal exports, and commercial cattle slaughter.
  3. Nebraska ranks number two for all cattle and calves; all cattle on feed; and commercial red meat production.
  4. The Nebraska beef community uses a significant portion of the state’s corn crop adding value and creating demand for corn while supporting jobs statewide.
  5. Advancements in practices and technology pioneered by farmers, ranchers, the University, and commercial partners have enabled the state’s beef production sector to continuously improve, promote sustainability, and adapt to changing demands.
  6. Nebraska beef producers reach new consumers around the world through global trade missions and by opening new markets and increasing opportunities that can benefit our communities and strengthen our economy.

At the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, we'd like to extend a big thank you to everyone involved in producing and providing delicious, high-quality beef from Nebraska.
