15 detained after 2 US servicemen assaulted in Turkey

Two U.S. Service members in Turkey were attacked by a group of Turkis Youth Nationalists on Monday, according to a statement from the U.S. Navy’s Sixth Fleet

The Marines were on Liberty during a Regularly Scheduled and Routine Port Visit by the USS Wasp (LHD-1) in the City of Izmir in Western Turkey.

The Two Marines were aided by several other Marines who were in the Area at the time of the Attack, and were then taken to a nearby Hospital for Evaluation where it was determined they had suffered No Injuries, with them then returning to the USS Wasp.

The Incident is being Investigated by Izmir Police, alongside the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS).

 Members of an anti-American youth organization have been detained in connection with the assault, according to authorities in Turkey.
