Coroner: Death of 2-year-old Kan. girl was homicide

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl and have made an arrest.

On January 5, police were dispatched to 3501 SW 10th Avenue in Topeka on a report of an unresponsive girl, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Spiker.

Medical personnel arrived on scene a short time later and the girl later identified as Aurora M. Exon, 2 of Topeka was pronounced deceased.

In late March, the Shawnee County Coroner’s Office determined the manner of death to be homicide.

As a result of an extensive investigation, police on Tuesday arrested  45-year-old Jeffrey J. Exon of Topeka and booked him into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections for the requested charges of Murder in the 1st degree, Aggravated Endangering A Child and Failure to report the death of a child, according to Spiker.
