Lincoln woman accused of lighting house on fire with gasoline

Lincoln, Neb.-Police in Lincoln are investigating a suspected arson and a woman has been arrested.

According to police, officers and Lincoln Fire were dispatched to a residence in the 1800 block of Belleville at around 5:00 a.m. on May 30.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the tenant, Reyna Vasquez, who indicated that she had left the home for a short time and returned to find it on fire.

However, police said officers were suspicious of some statements made by Vasquez regarding the circumstances of the fire.

Police said officers then spoke to the property owner who indicated they had experienced some issues with Vasquez.

With the help of a fire inspector, police determined the fire was not accidental, and an accelerant such as gasoline had been used to start it.

Police said it was determined that Vasquez had perpetrated the act.

Vasquez was arrested on suspicion of 2nd-degree arson.

The damage to the residence was estimated at $5,000.
