A new business in North Platte is helping local boat owners spend less time traveling and more time enjoying the water.
Platte River Marine, owned by Wyatt Pevler, opened in September 2025 and provides a variety of boat services including detailing, polishing, oxidation removal, and mechanical repairs.
Pevler said the idea for the business came from his own experience as a boat owner, where he often had to leave the area to find service.
“There wasn't really anywhere in North Platte to have my boat serviced,” Pevler said. “I always had to drive all the way to Big Springs, Ogallala, Kearney.”
With several lakes nearby and a strong boating community, Pevler saw an opportunity to bring those services closer to home.
“I think it would be a really good opportunity for people that are close to this area to be able to not have to drive an hour to get their boat serviced,” he said.
Platte River Marine focuses heavily on detailing and restoration work, helping boats look as close to new as possible after years of use. In addition to cosmetic work, the shop also handles mechanical repairs.
Pevler said his background in heavy equipment diesel mechanics, combined with a lifelong interest in boating, made the business a natural fit.
“I just kind of fell in love with boating at a young age and wanted to own my own business,” he said. “I figured this would be a good way to combine the two.”
The idea began taking shape in the spring of 2025. After discussing it with friends and family and getting positive feedback, Pevler moved forward with plans to open the business. By the fall, he had secured a location and opened Platte River Marine.
The shop is located at 1603 East 5th Street in North Platte, just behind The House Bar, in a building suited for larger boats with tall overhead doors.
Beyond the services offered, Pevler said one of his main priorities is creating a more personal experience for customers.
“I like to build a rapport with you. I like to have a conversation, get to know you a little bit,” he said. “Figure out what's going to be best suited for the customer on an individual basis rather than just mass-produced service.”
He also said affordability is an important part of the business model, aiming to help customers who may not have large budgets for boat maintenance.
“My labor rates are really low,” Pevler said. “I just kind of do it for the love of the game, really.”
Launching the business has required long hours, as Pevler continues working part-time as a mechanic while growing his customer base. He said the goal is to eventually build the business into something that allows for more flexibility and time with his family.
For now, he’s focused on building relationships and establishing a trusted service in the community.
“If you want your boat to look as new as it possibly can after years of use on the water, bring it down to Platte River Marine and we'll get you guys squared away,” he said.
With Platte River Marine now open, North Platte boat owners have a new local option for service, maintenance, and restoration—without having to leave the area.
