Upon the arrival of emergency crews, it was determined that a school bus and pickup truck hauling livestock in a gooseneck trailer were involved.

The investigation concluded that the driver of the school bus entered the roadway after stopping at a stop sign and was struck by the northbound pickup truck.

No children were on the school bus at the time of the accident, only the bus driver who was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the pickup truck was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to Genoa Community Hospital, in Genoa, with non-life-threatening injuries.

The livestock on the trailer was placed in the care of a local rancher until being returned to the owner. The driver of the school bus was issued a citation for failure to yield to the right away of a vehicle.

Deputies were assisted by the Silver Creek Fire and Rescue and Genoa Rescue Squad.

Officials would like to remind motorists that while traveling, if you see or hear an emergency vehicle approaching, Nebraska state law requires you to slow down and move over.

Responding vehicles are often delayed because motorists fail to yield to an emergency vehicle.
