
SHAWNEE COUNTY—Four members of a family escaped injury during a fire at a home on Saturday.
Just after 5:30p.m. Saturday, firefighters responded to a fire at a residence at 411 SE Pinecrest Drive in Topeka, according to Fire Marshal Todd Harrison just before
Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke and flames coming from the single story home. Four occupants were able to self-evacuate prior to the fire departments arrival. A search confirmed there were no other occupants.
A preliminary investigation indicates the fire cause to be incendiary, associated with a juvenile playing with fire, according to Harrison. The estimated dollar loss – $5,500.00; of which $5,000.00 is associated with structural loss and $500.00 associated with contents loss. Working smoke detectors were not located within the home, according to Harrison.
