Washington D.C. -- A planned summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which was expected to take place in Budapest, has been postponed indefinitely, the White House confirmed. Officials cited a lack of progress in diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine as a key factor in the delay.

The meeting had been intended to discuss a potential freeze of the Russia-Ukraine conflict along its current front lines. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the idea as “a good compromise,” but questioned whether Russia would follow through, emphasizing the need for sustained pressure to achieve peace.

Tensions remain high as both nations continue military operations. Overnight exchanges of missile and drone strikes were reported, and Russia conducted nuclear training exercises, signaling readiness to escalate the conflict. In response, Ukraine has sought additional military assistance to strengthen its defense capabilities.

President Trump expressed reluctance to move forward with the summit, saying he wanted to see concrete steps toward peace before committing to another meeting. European leaders and U.S. lawmakers also voiced concerns, noting that Russia’s recent actions undermine diplomatic efforts.

The postponement highlights the challenges of achieving a peaceful resolution, leaving international observers closely monitoring developments as the situation continues to evolve.
