LINCOLN, Neb. — Governor Jim Pillen has officially proclaimed Saturday, Sept. 27, as National Hunting and Fishing Day in Nebraska, celebrating the state's rich outdoor heritage and the significant contributions of hunters and anglers to conservation efforts.
The state proclamation coincides with the national day of recognition as well. In Nebraska, Sept. 27 is the season open for Zone 2 deer archery.
“Being outside in Nebraska is a way to create lifelong memories with your family and friends,” said Gov. Pillen. “Hunting and fishing are not just hobbies; they are a culture, a way of life, that is passed down from generation to generation.”
The proclamation underscores the vital role that outdoor enthusiasts play in preserving Nebraska's natural resources. Through the purchase of licenses and sporting equipment, hunters and anglers contribute to conservation funding, ensuring the sustainability of wildlife and habitats for future generations.
“On behalf of the sportsmen and women of Nebraska, our partners and conservation organizations, we thank Governor Pillen for his support of hunting and fishing through this proclamation,” said Dustin Allemann, board member of the Nebraska Sportsmen’s Foundation. “He continues to champion outdoor activities year after year.”
Established in 1972, National Hunting and Fishing Day serves as a reminder of the importance of outdoor recreation and its impact on conservation efforts. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission encourages residents to participate in outdoor activities and to appreciate the state's natural beauty.
