North Platte, Neb. - Mid-Plains Community College will celebrate the completion of its new Electrical Technology Building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Feb. 18.

The event is scheduled for 4 p.m. on the North Platte Community College North Campus at 1101 Halligan Drive. Community members, industry partners, and the public are invited to attend and tour the new facility.

The new building marks a major milestone for Mid-Plains Community College, as it is the first new building constructed on the North Campus since the early 1990s.

The Electrical Technology program has operated out of its previous facility since 1979 and has expanded over the years to include an Electrical Automation degree. The program continues to see strong demand, regularly operating full classes with a waitlist.

As demand for residential and commercial electricians has grown, college officials say the new facility will allow MPCC to better train students entering the workforce.

“This building represents our commitment to the community, our investment in the trades and our dedication to preparing a skilled workforce,” said Dr. Jody Tomanek, vice president for academic affairs and North Platte Community College. “It opens the door to expanded opportunities not only for students, but for professionals and partners across the state.”

Electrical Technology instructors Jake Elmshaeuser and Scott Mustion said the new space significantly improves safety, visibility, and efficiency for hands-on training.

“The new facility gives us individual workstations, better sight lines and more room for hands-on training,” Elmshaeuser said. “It allows us to train more students without sacrificing the quality or safety of instruction.”

In addition to student instruction, the building will support continuing education, license renewal training, and professional development opportunities for electricians already working in the field. College officials expect the expanded offerings to attract professionals from across the region.

A unique feature of the program is that students are taught by licensed electricians who continue to work in the field.

“We’re electricians teaching future electricians,” Elmshaeuser said. “Our students learn real-world skills and experience, so they’re prepared for what they’ll encounter on the job.”

The MPCC Electrical Technology program can be completed in one year through five eight-week courses, allowing students to enter the workforce more quickly while reducing education costs. Faculty emphasize hands-on training and individualized support to prepare graduates for success in the electrical industry.

“The trades are alive and thriving,” Mustion said. “This is a great opportunity to showcase our program and benefit our community, our workforce and the future.”

Parkville, Mo.—Feb. 2, 2026 —&nbsp;Park University has announced the recipients of competitive academic scholarships for the start of the 2026-27 academic year. These scholarships, which totals more than $1.88 million, have been awarded to current high school seniors who are expected to enroll at Park starting with the Fall 2026 semester.

The most prestigious Park University academic scholarship given is the Presidential Honors Scholarship. This award, traditionally given to two incoming freshmen, covers full tuition, fees, and room and board for four years, as well as a $5,000 stipend for a study abroad experience. The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners will meet Monday morning, Feb. 2, at the Lincoln County Courthouse, with multiple agenda items ranging from routine business to a liquor license public hearing.

The commissioners’ meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners Room. After opening with prayer, the board is expected to approve minutes from its Jan. 26 meeting and hear public comment.

Commissioners will then consider several administrative items, including claims and treasurer’s receipts, a right-of-way permit for Allo Communications, and a special designated liquor permit request from DEAM LLC (Axes &amp; Aces) for a Feb. 13 reception at The Farmhouse. The board will also discuss setting a date and location for a public hearing on the Lincoln County Comprehensive Plan and authorize the chair to sign a cremation authorization under state statute.

At 9:15 a.m., the board will recess and reconvene as the Lincoln County Board of Equalization. Items on that agenda include approval of prior meeting minutes, public comment, and certificates of correction and refund submitted by the county assessor.

The commissioners are scheduled to reconvene at 9:30 a.m. for a public hearing on an application for a Class D liquor license submitted by Ranchland Mini Mart LLC, doing business as Ranchland Mini Mart in Maxwell. Following the hearing, the board will consider whether to recommend approval to the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission.

The agenda also allows for a possible closed session to discuss legal strategy, real estate matters, security issues, or job performance evaluations, if necessary. The meeting will conclude with concerns from elected officials or department heads and committee reports from the commissioners.

Central Nebraska community partners are coming together to host a free Ag Health and Safety Event, Cultivating Health, on Tuesday, Feb. 3, in Gothenburg.

The event will be held at the Dayspring Bank Event Center and is designed to take a broad look at the health, safety, and day-to-day challenges involved in agriculture and rural life.

Joe Richeson, one of the organizers, said the event goes beyond traditional safety training.

“This isn’t hard-hat safety or excavation safety,” Richeson said. “It’s more of a top-down approach to what it takes to run an ag operation, whether you’re a producer, farmer, rancher, or involved in ag in some other way.”

Sessions throughout the day will cover a wide range of topics, including mental health, distracted driving, water quality and quantity, nitrates in drinking water, occupational safety, and nutrition for long workdays in the field.

Presenters include the Nebraska Trucking Association, members of the governor’s groundwater task force, Nebraska Medicine, and an occupational therapist focusing on safe movement and body mechanics. A session on food preparation will also address how to safely prepare energy-rich meals for long days during planting, harvesting, or livestock work.

Richeson said the event is open to anyone, not just those directly involved in agriculture.

“You don’t have to be ag-related to attend,” he said. “Ag touches everyone’s life every day, whether you realize it or not.”

Spouses and family members are encouraged to attend, particularly for the mental health session, which focuses on coping with the stresses unique to the agricultural industry, including markets, employees, and daily uncertainty.

The event begins at 10:30 a.m. Exhibit booths will be set up by noon and remain open until 4 p.m., with sessions concluding at 4 p.m. A business-after-hours event will follow from 4 to 7 p.m.

Attendees may come and go throughout the day and are not required to stay for all sessions. A free lunch will be provided, and local FFA members will assist during the event.

Health screenings will also be available through Gothenburg Health, with options for multiple screenings, including full blood work for those who choose to fast.

NORTH PLATTE – The success of a fundraising campaign launched last spring is making an immediate and historic impact at the North Platte Catholic Schools. The NPCS Endowment-Trust, Inc. kicked off the Founded on Excellence campaign in April 2025 with a goal to increase teacher salaries at St. Patrick’s Jr/Sr High, McDaid Elementary, and Little Leprechaun Preschool. The aim is to address both teacher retention and recruitment. Additional goals of the campaign are to complete a handful of much-needed capital improvements at St. Pat’s and McDaid. 

Because of the early success of the campaign, the Endowment was able to designate $100,000 to the current, 2025/2026 school year operating budget for faculty salary increases. Endowment Director Wendy Dodson presented a check to NPCS Superintendent Kevin Dodson on January 29th

. “We have been thrilled with the initial positive response to the campaign. It is clear that our school patrons and our local community are in full support of our efforts to better compensate teachers,” says Mrs. Dodson. She notes that gifts and pledges to the campaign currently total $3,439,495, just shy of the Endowment’s Challenge goal of $3.5 Million. 

Dodson says she is hopeful the campaign momentum will continue through the current school year. “We will not stop until we pass the $3.5 Million mark. Our Pinnacle goal is $4 Million.” A portion of the campaign funds are earmarked for renovations to activities restrooms and boys’ locker rooms at St. Pat’s, and flooring and lighting at McDaid. The bulk of 

the campaign will be designated to a restricted fund for faculty salary increases. Fundraising Campaign Makes Impact at North Platte Catholic Schools

Lincoln County deputies recovered a stolen feed truck and arrested one suspect following an investigation that began south of North Platte earlier this week.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched on Jan. 27 to a feedlot southeast of North Platte after a feed truck was reported stolen. Upon arrival, deputies confirmed that a 2012 Kenworth feed truck and attached feeder, valued at approximately $165,000, were missing from the property.

With no immediate suspects, deputies collected evidence from the scene and searched the surrounding area. During the investigation, deputies located a disabled vehicle parked along Interstate 80 near the feedlot. After comparing evidence from the theft scene with items visible inside the disabled vehicle, investigators determined the suspects likely arrived in that vehicle.

Investigators later made contact with the owner of the disabled vehicle, who agreed to meet with deputies in Lexington. The Dawson County Sheriff's Office assisted in contacting the individual. The stolen feed truck was subsequently located and recovered in Dawson County.

The owner of the disabled vehicle was identified as Stanley Russell, 54, of Longmont, Colorado. Russell was transported to North Platte and arrested on local theft charges. He was also found to have an active parole warrant out of Colorado and was booked into custody.

Investigators later determined a second suspect was involved in the theft. That individual was identified as Jeremy Best, 46, also of Colorado. Best was located in Kearney by the Kearney Police Department and will be returned to Lincoln County at the earliest opportunity to face theft charges.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office credited the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office and Kearney Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.

NORTH PLATTE — The Miss Nebraska Organization will return to North Platte in early February for its annual Crowns and Gowns weekend, bringing pageant events, leadership workshops and a former Miss America to the community.

Crowns and Gowns is scheduled for Feb. 6–8 and serves as the final local competition opportunity for contestants before the Miss Nebraska state pageant in June. Events are centered around professional development for young women ages 14 to 27, as well as public activities open to the community.

This year’s weekend will feature Heather French Henry, Miss America 2000, who will serve as a keynote guest throughout the weekend. French Henry will emcee the local Miss Nebraska competition on Friday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. at Mid-Plains Community College. Doors are expected to open at 6:30 p.m., with tickets available at the door.

She will also headline a Women’s Empowerment Luncheon on Saturday, Feb. 7, from 1 to 3 p.m. at North 40 Chophouse. Tickets for the luncheon are available online at MissNebraska.org.

Megan Doughty, executive director of the Miss Nebraska Organization, said Crowns and Gowns is designed to help young women grow far beyond the stage.

“The word ‘pageant’ is really a misnomer anymore,” Doughty said. “It’s about developing personal passions, advocacy and life skills that carry through long after competition.”

Throughout the weekend, delegates will participate in workshops focused on interview skills, public speaking, branding, advocacy development and community engagement. Professional hair and makeup services, headshot photography and private gown appointments will also be offered.

The local competition includes personal interviews with judges, on-stage questions, fitness wear, evening gown and talent segments. Scholarships are awarded based on placement and special awards.

According to Doughty, the Miss Nebraska Organization awards more than $40,000 annually in cash scholarships, along with access to more than $1 million in tuition scholarships through partnerships with Nebraska colleges and universities.

The current titleholders include Miss Nebraska’s Teen Gabriella Swift of North Platte and Miss Nebraska 2025 Mackenzie Gregory of Scottsbluff.

Doughty said community support has helped make North Platte a key location for pageant events statewide.

“We’re bringing young women from across Nebraska to experience our community,” she said. “It’s about showcasing North Platte while helping these delegates realize their potential.”

North Platte, Neb. — The Mid-Plains Community College Board of Governors met Wednesday evening at North Platte Community College’s North Campus to start the 2026 year with officer elections, financial approvals, and updates on campus projects.

Cindy Duncan of Broken Bow was elected board chair, Kim Korgan of McCook as vice chair, Kurt Crowley of Broken Bow as secretary treasurer, and Matt Rose of McCook as assistant secretary treasurer. Kent Miller of North Platte and Tyler Pribbeno of Imperial will continue representing the college at the Nebraska Community College Association. “They all do a great job in their roles,” said MCC President Ryan Purdy. “Kent and Tyler have a little more work outside of the regular board meetings as they represent Mid-Plains on a state level.”

The board approved consent items, including minutes from December board meetings and the December financial report. Bills for the month totaled $2.54 million, slightly higher than usual due to pay app requests. “Outside of that, it would have been pretty similar to what we would expect for a normal month,” Purdy said.

Two campus projects were also approved. The Barrel Vault Roof at the Walsh-Brady Building in McCook, damaged by last summer’s hailstorm, will be replaced by Weathercraft. Purdy described the temporary repairs as “lots of duct tape looking patches all over the thing,” and added, “It is a translucent panel, so it’s right over the stairwell when you walk in the building. Got to get that fixed.”

The board also approved new security camera software to connect and manage cameras across all campuses, including North Platte, McCook, Valentine, Ogallala, Imperial, and Broken Bow. “The last year has been a struggle sometimes being able to get the footage that we needed,” Purdy said. “This system will work with all the existing cameras, which is a huge benefit when you look at the cost of other systems.”

The meeting also highlighted faculty and student achievements. Dr. Courtney Johnston recently earned her PhD in psychology, and early entry programs continue to grow, increasing more than 20% over previous years. “It’s about the people,” Purdy said. “We’re here to educate students—they’re not buying widgets, they’re buying knowledge.”

Looking ahead, the next board meeting is scheduled for February 18, beginning with a ribbon cutting for the new Electrical Technology Building at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Additionally, the MCC Theater Department, in collaboration with the North Platte Community Playhouse, will present Arkansas Bear February 2 at 10 a.m. and February 3 at 7 p.m. at the McDonald-Belton Theater on the South Campus. Admission is free. Students are also encouraged to apply for institutional scholarships by March 1.

Public Relations and Marketing Director Daniel Stinman added, “That’s a great way for students to get a head start on their education, save some money, and pursue their passions right here at Mid-Plains.”

The North Platte City Council convened Tuesday night for a meeting that focused on improving city infrastructure, expanding housing opportunities, and updating security systems. Mayor Brandon Kelliher joined Allison Peck in the studio Wednesday morning to provide a recap of the session.

The meeting began with recognition for the city’s wastewater treatment plant staff. “We were able to present them with some annual awards last night,” Kelliher said. “One of those awards they’ve received every year for the last 15 years or more. The other one, I think, 12 of the last 15 years. It’s pretty impressive. We have an extremely well-run plant.” He praised the team for keeping the city’s sewer system operating smoothly, noting that “it’s one of those things we don’t give much thought to unless it doesn’t work.”

On the consent agenda, the council approved routine items, including liquor licenses for upcoming community events. Kelliher pointed out that this time of year there are several events, from the Buffalo Bill Bash to annual MMA fights in March. “It’s nice to have stuff to do in North Platte,” he said.

During the regular agenda, council members authorized Mayor Kelliher to sign contracts with Motorola for door access and camera system upgrades across city facilities. “Some of the existing door access and cameras are quite old from a cybersecurity perspective,” Kelliher explained. “We were planning to do this a little bit at a time over the next five to seven years, but Motorola offered a deal to let us pay over five years and do them all at once. So we opted for that approach.” He noted that keeping up with software support is crucial, adding, “Many things are very expensive and you need to make sure you’re not purchasing something that’s going to go out of support in two or three years.”

Council members also approved the first reading of Ordinance 4243, which now requires ice and water shields on roofs. Kelliher explained the change was prompted by insurance challenges: “Insurance companies have lately been using that as an excuse not to pay some roofing claims. Folks have had to fork out more money for their roofs, and roofers have had trouble getting paid. We wanted to give citizens the best opportunity to ensure their homes are appropriately protected.”

Another major topic was the extension of Francis Street. Kelliher described the project as a key economic development opportunity. “By the end of August 2026, Francis Street will go from where it ends today clear to Newberry access. That’s going to be an excellent economic development area. We already have companies reaching out to the property owners saying, ‘Hey, I want to look at buying this piece,’” he said. The project, funded largely by developers and partially by grants, allows the city to expand infrastructure without using taxpayer dollars.

The council also approved the purchase of five properties through a state grant program designed to create affordable workforce housing. Several of the properties are older homes in need of demolition, while one is an empty lot that had been vacant for years. “We’re clearing properties that would otherwise be economically very difficult to deal with,” Kelliher said. “The city spends a lot of money upfront, and we’re not going to get anywhere close to the money back immediately. But clearing these lots opens opportunities for homes or apartments, which helps with the housing shortage and improves surrounding property values.”

Kelliher also highlighted upcoming community events, including the AG Expo on February 10 and 11. “It’s always a great event. You get to see all the equipment, the vendors, and connect with farmers in our area. It’s a tradition in our community,” he said.

The Prairie Arts Center is rolling out new opportunities for the community this winter, from ceramics and watercolor classes to a special Valentine’s event featuring musician Rascal Martinez. Holly Carlini, of the Prairie Arts Center, joined the North Platte Post studio to share the latest updates.

“We have some really great individuals that are regulars there,” Carlini said about the ceramics program. “Cecilia Lawrence will be volunteering to open a Thursday morning. Normally, our ceramics program runs on Fridays from 2 to 5:30 and Saturdays from 11 to 2. Cecilia wanted this to be available for maybe adults or moms who have dropped their kids off to school, kind of looking for something to do. It’s a nice, calm, relaxing environment.”

Carlini noted that a one-time evening ceramics session will also be held on February 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Arts Center. She added that pieces range in price from $5 to $100, all-inclusive of glaze and firing fees. 

“We have molds where we pour our own pieces too that are from the ’60s and ’70s,” she said. “You can find ashtrays and all sorts of crazy stuff.”

The Arts Center also continues to host a cancer survivor watercolor class led by Sandy Meyer and sponsored by Great Plains Health. 

“This class has been there since the beginning of the Prairie Arts Center. It’s free to the public, anyone that has been touched by cancer in their lives,” Carlini said. “Sandy runs this class. It’s really relaxing and beautiful, and she offers a space for them to create. It’s beginner-friendly, and people come for as long or as little as they want.”

Looking ahead, the Arts Center will host Rascal Martinez for a Valentine’s-themed show on Friday, February 13. 

“He does have another musician playing with him and it’s always a super great time,” Carlini said. “Tickets are $20 apiece, or you can buy a VIP package with two tickets, a bottle of wine, and dessert.”

In addition to these offerings, the Arts Center is introducing new classes ranging from finger crocheting for Valentine’s pillows to fused glass and monthly pottery wheel classes. Hand-building clay classes will also return, allowing participants to create items like house numbers and travel mugs.

Carlini emphasized that the Prairie Arts Center is welcoming to all skill levels. 

“A lot of people think, ‘Oh, I have to know art to go in there,’ but that’s what the place is for. You don’t have to know what you’re doing to go in there,” she said.

Memberships are also available at $35 annually for singles, providing discounts on classes and in the gift shop.

“The Prairie Arts Center is a non-intimidating space where anyone can explore their creativity,” Carlini said. “Stop in and check it out—you never know what you might enjoy.”

North Platte, Neb. - One of North Platte’s most anticipated annual fundraisers is returning just ahead of Valentine’s Day. The North Platte Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW) will host its Wine &amp; Brews event on Friday, February 13, raising funds for scholarships and programs that support women in the community.

Courtney Long, president of the North Platte BPW, described the organization as a place where women can both network and find support. “We support women in business, we support women who are starting businesses, who are looking for encouragement and maybe even some financial support,” Long said. “We also supply scholarships to young women in the community who are searching for opportunities and growing in the business world as well.”

The club meets monthly on the third Thursday at noon at the Prairie Arts Center and welcomes women from a wide range of professional backgrounds. Long said BPW provides opportunities for women to connect, share ideas, and build both personal and professional relationships. “It’s such a great opportunity for professional women to get together and get to know each other but also support each other in their professional lives,” she added.

Wine &amp; Brews serves as BPW’s largest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds support Mid-Plains Community College scholarships, a new high school scholarship launching this year, and the organization’s Women Supporting Women Fund, which assists newer entrepreneurs and women starting businesses.

The event features tastings from local wineries and breweries, non-alcoholic mocktails from Uninebriated of Kearney, and a large charcuterie spread from Boardology of Hastings. Brandi Jamerman, BPW media coordinator, said the fundraiser is also a way to highlight local businesses. “Wine and Brew is one of the biggest silent auction items in the region,” she said. “We typically have about 75 to almost 100 different donors in the community that have given us items to showcase their business. My main goal is to give them some recognition and say thank you.”

Jamerman said the evening is designed to be social and relaxed. “They’ll walk in, get signed in, get your bidder number, and then you are free to roam,” she said. “Grab yourself your first drink, go check out the silent auction items, and just go from there.”

This year, the event moves to a new venue, The Farmhouse, at 3102 East 8 Farm Road. Long said she is excited for the change of scenery. “It’s gorgeous. We are so excited to be at that new location,” she said. VIP tables will also be available for attendees who want a more private experience, complete with a personal charcuterie board.

Long said attending Wine &amp; Brews is a highlight for many BPW members. “It’s probably one of the biggest events that I mark on my calendar and look forward to every year,” she said. “It’s so much fun to be with all the vendors, get to know them, and see what they have to offer. But it also helps grow those friendships.”

United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods announced that Jamaal McNeil, 48, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was sentenced on January 29, 2026, in federal court in Lincoln for one count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams of methamphetamine actual with 1 prior conviction for a serious drug felony. United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis sentenced McNeil to a total of 360 months’ imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system. After McNeil’s release from prison, he will begin a 10-year term of supervised release.

McNeil was responsible for selling methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana in Lincoln for at least six months in 2023.&nbsp; On November 29, 2023, he was contacted by the Lincoln Police Department in his vehicle.&nbsp; A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted due to the odor of marijuana.&nbsp; Investigators found multiple plastic baggies.&nbsp; Six of the baggies field-tested positive for cocaine, six baggies field-tested positive for methamphetamine, and three baggies contained marijuana.&nbsp; Investigators also found four hydrocodone pills.&nbsp; McNeil was arrested and $853 was found on his person.

A search warrant was executed at McNeil’s residence in Lincoln.&nbsp; Investigators found additional quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana, as well as digital scales, and $2,495 in U.S. currency.&nbsp; The methamphetamine and cocaine were sent to the State Crime Lab.&nbsp; The lab confirmed there were at least 180 grams of methamphetamine actual and more than 212 grams of a mixture or substance containing methamphetamine.&nbsp; Additionally, the lab confirmed McNeil possessed more than 50 grams of cocaine and at least 6 grams of cocaine base.

McNeil was convicted in 2007 in the Nebraska federal court in Omaha for possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine as was sentenced to 120 months’ imprisonment.

This case was investigated by the Lincoln Police Department and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

On the proposed federal detention center for the region, Mayor Lucas said, "Converting a gigantic distribution facility into a warehouse for 10,000 people for which it was never designed is not right, and it is fundamentally something that is inhumane."

ICE was given $45 billion for detention centers in the tax and spending bill that President Trump signed last year.

LINCOLN —&nbsp;State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg is making a push to connect Nebraskans with their “lost cash.”

The effort marks National Unclaimed Property Day on Feb. 1, also recognized in Nebraska via a Gov. Jim Pillen proclamation Spellerberg requested.

The proclamation says Nebraska currently holds more than $250 million in unclaimed property that includes uncashed checks, insurance proceeds and other financial assets considered lost or abandoned when an owner can not be found. Spellerberg urged Nebraskans to search&nbsp;<a href="http://nebraskalostcash.gov/" target="_blank">NebraskaLostCash.gov</a>.

“You might just find a surprise waiting for you,” said Meaghan Aguirre, Nebraska’s unclaimed property director. Aguirre was recently elected president of the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators.

Nebraskans who have lived in multiple states can check the national database,&nbsp;<a href="http://missingmoney.com/" target="_blank">MissingMoney.com</a>. Searches on both sites are free of charge.

Nebraska for more than five decades has received millions of dollars annually turned over by entities that can not find the owners, according to the proclamation. The state has returned more than $300 million to rightful owners since implementation of its Unclaimed Property Program.

In 2025, the state returned nearly $20 million through 19,952 claims.

“Nebraska has streamlined the claims process, because we want these unclaimed dollars back in our local economies,” Spellerberg said.&nbsp;

He said unclaimed property exists in all of the state’s 93 counties, including $96 million in assets in the Omaha metro area, $28.6 million in Lincoln, $7 million in Bellevue, $5.1 million in Grand Island and $3.7 million in Kearney.

History will remember President Trump as the leader who brought financial market opportunity to all American families. It will remember him as the President who oversaw the largest merger in history between Main Street and Wall Street. And it will remember him for redefining the social contract through the creation of a shareholder society.&nbsp;

And how did he achieve all this? Through Trump Accounts.&nbsp;

Trump Accounts are among the most significant policy innovations of modern times. They mark a&nbsp;singular moment&nbsp;in economic history by expanding the benefits of private ownership and compound growth to all Americans. Today, I will explain where Trump Accounts came from, how they work, and why they will render socialist notions moot by making every citizen a shareholder. &nbsp;

The idea of opening investment accounts for young Americans first arose in the form of “Baby Bonds” decades ago. But the idea was flawed because the accounts could be invested only in US government bonds.&nbsp;

President Trump recognized the shortcomings of this idea while also grasping its promise. So he set out to perfect it.&nbsp;

Working with some of the most talented businessmen in the country, including Brad Gerstner and Michael Dell, he pioneered Trump Accounts—investment accounts that newborn Americans can receive on Day 1. Trump Accounts allow for private ownership, multiple funding pathways, and direct investment across a broad swath of the American economy. &nbsp;

Where President Trump’s predecessors created debt and dependency, President Trump creates assets and expands ownership. This is a signature characteristic of his presidency.&nbsp;

With Trump Accounts,&nbsp;every&nbsp;American child born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, is eligible to receive a $1,000 contribution from the Treasury Department that will be immediately invested in an index fund. To claim this investment, most families need merely check a box on Form 4547, the most aptly named tax document of all time. We are just three days into the 2026 tax filing season—and already, approximately 500,000 Americans have elected to open a Trump Account for their children.&nbsp;

The compound growth from Treasury’s initial seed funding alone stands to make young Americans wealthy. Assuming historical growth rates continue, a single $1,000 deposit into a Trump Account at birth should grow to an&nbsp;estimated&nbsp;amount of at least half a million dollars by the age of retirement.

The $1,000 seed from Treasury is exclusive to newborns. But keep in mind that&nbsp;any&nbsp;American below the age of 18 is also eligible to receive a tax-advantaged Trump Account to begin saving for the future. Philanthropists, family, friends, employers, and states can backfill Trump Accounts for these children to help them build a strong financial foundation before graduating high school. Our objective is to provide every American child with a Trump account. And the men and women in this audience will help make that possible.&nbsp; &nbsp;

In addition to the $1,000 seed from Treasury, there are three other channels for funding Trump Accounts: first, through the donations of parents, friends, and employers; second, through the generous donations of wealthy Americans and philanthropic organizations; and third, through donations from state governments.&nbsp;

Funding through Family, Friends, and Employers

President Trump wanted to make it especially easy for family, friends, and employers to give to Trump Accounts. And he has succeeded in that goal. Donations to a Trump Account will soon be the best gift a child could ever receive.

Starting July 4—our nation’s 250th anniversary—family, friends, and employers will be able to contribute up to $5,000 to each Trump Account each year. By contributing the maximum amount annually, the Council of Economic Advisers estimates that a child’s Trump Account could be worth more than $1 million at age 28 and tens of millions by the age of retirement.&nbsp;

Donations from employers are essential to bringing the President’s vision to life.&nbsp; Already, we have seen a large number of US businesses across a wide range of industries step up to support Trump Accounts.

Companies like Charles Schwab, Uber, Charter Communications, Bank of New York Mellon, State Street, Mastercard, Visa, Block, Robinhood, SoFi, Chime, Russel Investments, and Dell Technologies have all announced that they will match employee contributions to Trump Accounts in a variety of forms that work best for their employees. And today, Steak ‘n Shake, Broadcom, Intel, IBM, JP Morgan, Chipotle, Coinbase, and Comcast all announced that they will offer matching contributions as well. The President foresees a day where matching contributions to Trump Accounts will be as integral to an employee benefits package as a matching 401(k).&nbsp;

Through Trump Accounts, our President is putting the American Dream within reach of every citizen, no matter the circumstances of birth. When young Americans turn 18, they can use their Trump Accounts to keep saving for their retirement. Or they can use them to help purchase a new home or further their education—two hallmarks of the American Dream.

Funding through Philanthropists and Charitable Organizations

The next means of funding is through generous donations from wealthy Americans and charitable organizations. Consider how Trump Accounts are revolutionizing not only investing but philanthropy as well.&nbsp;

The United States is the most generous country in the history of the world. In 2024 alone, our citizens gave over half a trillion dollars to charity. That’s more than the GDP of advanced countries like Singapore, Austria, and the UAE.&nbsp;

Many Americans want to give back to their fellow citizens through charitable donations. But our country has long lacked a platform of private ownership from birth that facilitated philanthropy at-scale direct to American children.

Trump Accounts are the most capital-efficient form of philanthropy ever devised.&nbsp;

Typically, middlemen, overhead costs, and administrative expenses dilute the money Americans donate to charity. But Trump Accounts remove those obstacles entirely to put money directly in the hands of American children.&nbsp;

That’s why America’s savviest capital allocators have devoted enormous sums of wealth to seeding Trump Accounts.&nbsp;

Michael and Susan Dell led the way by pledging to donate $6.25 billion of their own money to help fund Trump Accounts for 25 million children under the age of 10. Ray and Barbara Dalio then followed suit by pledging $75 million to help fund Trump Accounts for more than 300,000 children in Connecticut.&nbsp;

The Dalios were among the first to join “The 50 State Challenge”—a special initiative Treasury has launched to rally the nation’s philanthropists around a common cause. The final way of funding Trump Accounts is through state governments.&nbsp;

The administration has been working closely with a number of governors to determine the best way states can work with the federal government to expand access to Trump Accounts to as many children as possible. States are the laboratories of our democracy, and their experiments with Trump Accounts will surface the best methods for funding over time.&nbsp;

Why Trump Accounts Mark A Singular Moment in Economic History

At their core, Trump Accounts represent the triumph of capitalism over socialism.&nbsp;

Socialism left in its wake a trail of economic ruin, all in pursuit of the belief that abolishing private ownership would lead to greater equality and human flourishing. In fact, the opposite was true. &nbsp;

The last century of economic history showed us that the answer was never to abolish private ownership; it was to&nbsp;democratize&nbsp;it. To protect, strengthen, and&nbsp;expand&nbsp;it to as many people as possible so that everyone can benefit from the prosperity only capitalism can provide.

Trump Accounts do exactly that. They collapse the distinction between earners and owners by making everyone an owner—all while keeping ownership private. In the decades-long contest between capitalism and socialism, this is the Trump card.&nbsp;
