NORTH PLATTE, Neb - Michael Ray will headline the concert at the Lincoln County Fair in North Platte on July 26, 2024. The announcement came Thursday morning. Drew Phillips Band will open for Ray. Tickets go on sale Friday, October 27 at www.lincofair.com for only $30/ticket.

Michael Ray was born in Eustis, Florida. He was inspired by his grandfather Amos "Wilson" Roach, who played music for him and taught him how to play guitar, in addition to having him perform at assisted living centers. Ray chose to form a band in southern Florida after graduating high school, and a disc jockey at WPCV began playing his music. He independently released an album in 2010, which was discovered by manager Tony Conway.

Ray was mentored by John Rich of Big &amp; Rich on the singing competition The Next: Fame Is at Your Doorstep, which he won. He and Rich co-wrote Big &amp; Rich's 2015 single, "Run Away with You".[2] After winning the competition, Ray was signed to Warner Bros. Records Nashville. His first EP, Tour Bootleg, was released in 2014. Two of the EP's tracks, "Kiss You in the Morning" (which went to number one on the Country Airplay charts in 2015) and "Think a Little Less," would later appear on his self-titled second album, released in 2015, becoming Ray's first and third singles, respectively. The track "Real Men Love Jesus" was named as Ray's second single. Ray supported the album with a tour.

On June 16, 2017, Ray released the single "Get to You" ahead of his third studio album, Amos.[3] Upon the album's release in 2018, it would produce two more singles: "One That Got Away" and "Her World or Mine." Both of his albums were produced by Scott Hendricks.

In September 2020, Ray released the single "Whiskey and Rain" ahead of his fourth studio album, originally set to be released in 2021.

Post News Director Canon Rath talked with Amy Sabatka and Jackie Curtis about the upcoming play Steel Magnolias in early November. Sabatka and Curtis are actresses in the play.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte Community Playhouse in conjunction with the North Platte Community College Theatre Department will present "Steel Magnolias" on Nov. 10th-12th and Nov. 17th-19th at the Fox Theatre in North Platte. Showtimes are 7:30pm on Friday's and Saturday's while Sunday's will be 2pm.&nbsp;

The show "Steel Magnolias" is a comedy-drama about a group of Southern women who bond over life's triumphs and tragedies. The play premiered off Broadway in 1987 and was subsequently adapted into a movie starring Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, and Darly Hannah in 1989. The North Platte rendition will focus on the Broadway adaptation, not the movie.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The unique twist the North Platte rendition is that the play has a double cast which means there are two actors for every role. Cast members will only perform in 3 out of the 6 shows, bringing a different perspective to every show.&nbsp;&nbsp;

For ticket prices, adults are $18 in advance or $20 at the door. High school students with a school ID can get tickets for $10 in advance, or $12 at the door. Lastly MPCC students, staff, and faculty just need to show their ID to get into the show for free.&nbsp;

Tickets will go on sale a week before the performance. LINCOLN, NEB. – Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation awarded six agricultural professionals scholarships to participate in the Nebraska LEAD program, keeping with the mission of cultivating the future of agriculture.

“These individuals continue to push to make agriculture better across The Good Life,” said Megahn Schafer, executive director of the Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation. “We are proud to support these individuals as they make an investment in their future, becoming equipped to better serve their communities and agriculture through the Nebraska LEAD program.”

The LEAD Scholarship awards agricultural stakeholders that participate in the Nebraska LEAD program. The LEAD program improves leadership skills and abilities of Nebraska’s future agricultural leaders through exposure to diverse topics, issues, concerns, points of view, and innovative ideas. The winners of the LEAD Scholarship are current Farm Bureau members that commit to serving in a leadership role with Farm Bureau upon completion of the program.

The six winners are Adam Oldemeyer (Ayr); April Delsing (Hemingford); Dalton Kenning (Wood River); Jake Werner (Lincoln); Jonathan Lechtenberg (Imperial); and Michelle Bose (Arcadia).

The Sheldon Exhibit, which is a traveling exhibit will be at the PAC tell the end of the month, also a Halloween exhibit, a special gallery will be set up for North Platte native Eric Sterns that will be open in early November and concerts.&nbsp;

All are key aspects of childhood all Nebraska youth deserve.

And every day, in both urban and rural communities across our state, after-school programs provide thousands of Nebraska youths just such opportunities for learning and growth.&nbsp; School-based and community-powered, after-school (and summer) programs provide hands-on learning opportunities complementing school day instruction in ways that excite, engage and inspire the next generation.

These experiences provide critical support to working parents, who need to know that their children are safe and engaged as they close out their workdays.&nbsp; After-school programs also create the nurturing places all Nebraska communities require to remain welcoming places for the families and businesses we need to attract and retain so we can continue to grow our economy and quality of life for all Nebraskans.

&nbsp; Thursday Oct. 26 is Lights on Afterschool Day, a national celebration of the important role after-school programs play in communities across our nation.&nbsp; On Oct. 6 Gov. Jim Pillen recognized Lights On Afterschool with a&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://beyondschoolbells.org/resources/loa.html">proclamation</a>&nbsp;highlighting the benefits Nebraska receives via these programs.&nbsp;&nbsp;

True to form, Nebraskans didn’t wait for the national start to kick off our Lights on Afterschool events.&nbsp; Celebrations started last week with a combination early Lights On/Halloween celebration at Jefferson Elementary in North Platte on Oct. 13 before moving east to Omaha on Oct. 14 with a citywide celebration at the brand-new Luminarium in RiverFront Park.&nbsp; Many more celebrations are planned statewide over the next two weeks.

Importantly, this year’s celebration marks the 20th&nbsp;anniversary of the Nebraska Department of Education’s administration of the 21st&nbsp;Century Community Learning Centers, a federal grant program supporting high quality after-school (and summer) programs that has grown to serve 143 Nebraska sites.&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.education.ne.gov/21stcclc/">NDE 21st CCLC</a>&nbsp;programs have provided tens of thousands of hours of engaging, enriching programming to tens of thousands of youths in underserved communities across our state, through safe, structured opportunities for hands-on STEM learning, field trips, cooking classes and many, many more activities, facilitated by professional staff and community volunteers.

We know through our professional work that high-quality after-school and summer programs play a crucial role in helping provide youths with additional opportunities for learning and the healthy growth and development all Nebraska students need. These programs complement but don’t duplicate the school day learning and provide youth with hands-on, small group, experiential-rich learning opportunities that are too often not available during the school day. Dr. Brain Maher, Nebraska’s current commissioner of education, noted the value of after-school programs when welcoming attendees to September’s GetConnected 2023, stating that the learning taking place in after-school and summer programs is just as important as the learning that takes place during the school day. For children’s growing brains and bodies, where and when learning takes place is irrelevant. What’s important is that youths are supported by caring adults and provided with experiences that support their healthy growth.&nbsp;After-school and summer programs can be the hands-on, experiential learning that excites, engages and inspires Nebraska youths to try new things, make friends and engage in new activities that may help chart a life course.

Discovering passions, dreaming about their future.All are key aspects of childhood all Nebraska youth deserve.And every day, in both urban and rural communities across our state, after-school programs provide thousands of Nebraska youths just such opportunities for learning and growth.&nbsp; School-based and community-powered, after-school (and summer) programs provide hands-on learning opportunities complementing school day instruction in ways that excite, engage and inspire the next generation.These experiences provide critical support to working parents, who need to know that their children are safe and engaged as they close out their workdays.&nbsp; After-school programs also create the nurturing places all Nebraska communities require to remain welcoming places for the families and businesses we need to attract and retain so we can continue to grow our economy and quality of life for all Nebraskans.&nbsp; Thursday Oct. 26 is Lights on Afterschool Day, a national celebration of the important role after-school programs play in communities across our nation.&nbsp; On Oct. 6 Gov. Jim Pillen recognized Lights On Afterschool with a&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://beyondschoolbells.org/resources/loa.html">proclamation</a>&nbsp;highlighting the benefits Nebraska receives via these programs.&nbsp;&nbsp;True to form, Nebraskans didn’t wait for the national start to kick off our Lights on Afterschool events.&nbsp; Celebrations started last week with a combination early Lights On/Halloween celebration at Jefferson Elementary in North Platte on Oct. 13 before moving east to Omaha on Oct. 14 with a citywide celebration at the brand-new Luminarium in RiverFront Park.&nbsp; Many more celebrations are planned statewide over the next two weeks.Importantly, this year’s celebration marks the 20th&nbsp;anniversary of the Nebraska Department of Education’s administration of the 21st&nbsp;Century Community Learning Centers, a federal grant program supporting high quality after-school (and summer) programs that has grown to serve 143 Nebraska sites.&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.education.ne.gov/21stcclc/">NDE 21st CCLC</a>&nbsp;programs have provided tens of thousands of hours of engaging, enriching programming to tens of thousands of youths in underserved communities across our state, through safe, structured opportunities for hands-on STEM learning, field trips, cooking classes and many, many more activities, facilitated by professional staff and community volunteers.We know through our professional work that high-quality after-school and summer programs play a crucial role in helping provide youths with additional opportunities for learning and the healthy growth and development all Nebraska students need. These programs complement but don’t duplicate the school day learning and provide youth with hands-on, small group, experiential-rich learning opportunities that are too often not available during the school day. Snyder is the subject of the Netflix movie, “Walk. Ride. Rodeo,” released in 2019. The biopic focuses on her journey leading up to and following a vehicle accident that left her paralyzed from the waist down.

Since then, Snyder has become one of the most sought-after social influencers and motivational speakers in western sports.

Approximately 275 attended her presentation at NPCC where she shared her story of triumph over tragedy.

“Don’t ever compare your challenge to somebody else,” Snyder told the audience. “Each one of us is going to have our own challenges and our own way of handling them. There is always someone praying for what you have.”

Street work going on in Hershey today

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners has determined the need to close the N. Sutherland River Bridge on North Prairie Trace Road over the North Platte River for a scheduled bridge replacement project.  We are currently planning to close the bridge as soon as Wednesday, October 25th, 2023 as construction will start immediately after.  The closure is expected to last until Summer 2025. 

 Please use West Suburban Road, North Hershey Road, and North River Road to detour the closure.  The detour route can also be completed using State Highway 30, North Hershey Road, and North River Road.  Exhaustive efforts to keep the existing bridge open during the construction of the new structure, or a temporary bridge structure being put in place, have been pursued and, unfortunately, are not possible due to several factors.

 They include environmental concerns and regulations, hydrological flows of the North Platte River, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' lengthy review process, and the risk of losing state funding that is vital to building the new structure.  Conversations and planning have been done with area first responder organizations to ensure that a seamless and thorough plan for responding to emergencies north of the river is in place.  Road crews have prioritized the detour routes for maintenance and snow removal, including adding aggregate materials to the road in order to mitigate wear and tear due to increased traffic. 

Conversations have also been had with the selected contractor, who has been a good partner in this process, and who is committed to working on the new structure year-round and completing the bridge on time.  Their construction workers are part of our local community.  We extend our gratitude to them and look forward to working with them throughout this construction process.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Hot Sheets: October 24th, 2023

Mid-Plains Community College adjunct instructor Aida Ullrich, of North Platte, has been honored with a Cultivating Education Award from the nonprofit organization, Las Mañanitas Community Advocates.

Ullrich has served as an ESL instructor for Mid-Plains for since 2015. Las Mañanitas Community Advocates, selected her for the award based on her efforts to teach English as a Second Language to the community’s growing non-English speaking population.

Ullrich was presented with a certificate during the Hispanic Heritage Gala Oct. 13 at La Quinta Inn and Suites by Wyndham in North Platte.

“It took me by surprise,” Ullrich said of receiving the award. “It felt very nice. I was told my name was mentioned more than 19 times when they were looking for nominations.”

Although humbled by the recognition, the true award for Ullrich comes from the changes and growth she sees in her students.

“I enjoy getting the knowledge to the people who need it so they can perform better here and understand,” Ullrich said. “Most of them are family of people working here. When they tell me that they can now understand in the store when they are talked to - that really makes me feel good because they are learning.”

Mid-Plains ESL instructor recognized with Cultivating Education Award

Post News Director chatted with Brenda Hansen and Mardel Manary who are with the North Platte Opportunity Center. The trio chatted about the sensory that the NPOC has and also the Sara Rickertsen Special Needs Grant that the NPOC received.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte Opportunity Center serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and is dedicated to making an impact on these individual lives. The NPOC also helps individuals with their community living, and with jobs and so much more.&nbsp;

The NPOC also has a sensory side to help with individuals who struggle with sensory overload. "Sensory overload can be volume, it could be too many people, it can be a lot of different ways but it's a place for them to come decompress and unwind," said Brenda Hansen. "It's a very calming environment." Hansen has been working with the sensory side at the NPOC for almost 10 years.&nbsp;

The NPOC was recently granted the Sara Rickertsen Special Needs Grant from the Lexington Community Foundation. "We are very excited that the Lexington Community Foundation granted us the Sara Rickertsen Special Needs Grant and we are going to use that as part of our program over at the sensory side and we are getting some speech generated devices," said Mardel Manary. "We have&nbsp; 7 individuals who are nonverbal so it will help them communicate."&nbsp;

OGALLALA - The Ogallala Regional Arts Council announced they will be hosting piano entertainer Jason Lyle Black on November 9th at the Ogallala High School Performing Arts Center. The show is set to begin at 7:00pm mountain time.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Black has the remarkable ability to play as easily sitting backwards as he does sitting forwards, while performing music from Disney to Broadway classics, to songs from the Beatles, AC/DC, and movie theme songs.&nbsp;

For many years, the Nebraska Hospital Association has been honored to bestow awards to Nebraska health care employees who have risen to the top by providing service excellence and dedication to their profession. These award recipients commit themselves to the betterment of their hospitals and health systems, their customers, their co-workers, and their communities.&nbsp;

Michael Pracheil is the recipient of the NHA's "The Caring Kind" Award and will be honored at a luncheon at the NHA conference on October 27 in LaVista.&nbsp;

Pracheil served Gothenburg Health for seven years as Chief Financial Officer; in 2023 he transitioned to Strategic Financial Executive.  When Michael started as CFO in March of 2016, he not only brought his financial knowledge but also his leadership, mentoring and passion for community service.  Michael has a unique viewpoint with healthcare finances as he is always advocating for the patient first, addressing financial concerns second.  His personal experiences with healthcare motivate his drive to improve the system.&nbsp;

Pracheil serves his community by assisting with meals on wheels, holiday meal boxes, Harvest Festival, and providing AV technology for community events. He has been a member of the Rotary club, was a past Rotary President and also served as a mentor for the Teammates program for years. Above all else, Michael is always there to listen and provide support to anyone who may be in need.&nbsp;

2023 marks 44 years of the NHA “The Caring Kind” Awards Luncheon. The NHA has honored over 2,800 of Nebraska’s most caring and dedicated hospital and health system employees.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Village of Sutherland is hosting an Economic Development Open House &amp; Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 24th from 7:00pm-8:00pm at the Village of Sutherland Office. The event is open to the public and is a great time to learn about the economic program but also voice their concerns and ideas for growth for the community. It's also an opportunity to learn about the 3 Sutherland Economic Development Programs: Business Development Loan and Grant, Property Improvement Program Loan and Grant (Commercial and Residential) and Digital Marketing Grant.&nbsp;

The residents of Sutherland voted for LB840 in May of 2022 which is a collection of 1.5% sales tax. "It's an opportunity for businesses and citizens of Sutherland to learn about our economic development program and its brand new," said Muriel Clark. "We began collecting those funds in January of 2023, so we got about 6, 7 months of those collections coming into our coffers, and we are just wanting to let people know the funds we have and what is available to do with those funds."&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Kwik Stop Youth Basketball League for 3rd-6th graders registration is officially open. The deadline to register is November 12th. It's $50 to register for the league. You can register at the Rec Center or Sports Shoppe and you can also register individually or by team. Games begin in December and ran tell January.
