GRANT, NEB - Over the weekend, The Perkins County Chamber of Commerce hosted a Drive-In Movie which featured the movie Top Gun: Maverick, which was released in May of 2022.&nbsp;

The free will donation event was held at the Perkins County Fairgrounds in Grant, Nebraska. The sound system was set up that it came in on FM transmitter, so folks could tune in 107.9 if they wanted to listen along in their car. There was also a PA System for folks who wanted to sit outside in a lawn chair.

The Perkins County Chamber of Commerce plans on showing a new movie every month with weather permitting. Concessions were available during the moving screening. The Perkins County Chamber of Commerce will announce next month's movie at a later date.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - Livin' Out Loud, which is the largest Christian Festival is going to be in Gothenburg next Saturday and Sunday at Lake Helen. The event is free to the public and expected to bring anywhere from 12 to 16 thousand to Gothenburg over the two days.&nbsp;

Livin' Out Loud features Christian bands that are well known. "The bands that we have this year are all in the top 10, top 15 and I mean they are incredible," said Jodi Hinds. "We are so excited to have them (the bands) and they are great people too, last year a lot of them came and signed autographs." Bands featured this year are Cain who has #1 hits coming out all the time, Cory Asbury, Katy Nichole, Ben Fuller, and All The Noise.&nbsp;

(August 14, 2023) Lexington, Neb. – Dawson Public Power District customers have rated their electric utility as “excellent.” That comes from the publicly-owned utility’s 2023 Consumer Satisfaction Study conducted in June.

On a ten-point scale, Dawson PPD’s overall customer satisfaction rating averaged 9.07, ranking higher than the national electric cooperative average of 8.90.

Customers gave Dawson PPD high marks for keeping longer power outages to a minimum and having highly trained and professional employees. In addition, those surveyed say that Dawson PPD is “very good” at communicating with customers, keeping them informed, and having consumers’ best interests at heart.

“These positive survey results are a testament to the hard work and dedication of Dawson PPD’s Board of Directors and employees,” said Dawson PPD Manager of Customer Service Marsha Banzhaf. “We’re proud to be public power and to serve our customers well.”

Electric costs were rated as “good.” Customers say that Dawson PPD delivers good value for the money and that the utility is helping them be more efficient in their use of electricity.

Approximately 442 residential customers evaluated Dawson PPD in 18 service attributes on a five-point scale. Twelve attributes received mean ratings of 4.5 or higher, reaching the “excellent” threshold. Compared to past consumer satisfaction studies, all attributes rated higher than in 2015 and five attributes received higher rankings than in 2019.

One thing that is new to the Prairie Arts Center is the new Sun and Shades gallery. The pieces of art in this gallery were created by the artist who received the invitation. "This was an invitational exhibit in our Erickson gallery, and we invited artists from across the state to participate in this gallery," said Prairie Arts Center Executive Director Holly Carlini. "We assigned them a task to either paint or draw or sculpt something either sun or shade related."&nbsp;

North Platte, Nebraska - On October 9th and 10th, the best of Nebraska High School Class C girls’ golfers will unite in North Platte for the state championship tournament. The event is expected to draw 95-115 golfers from across the state to the Lake Maloney Golf Course. Along with the participants, we are expecting many friends and family to travel alongside their girls to support them.&nbsp;

There is a need for volunteers to assist with the NSAA Class C Girls State Golf Championship. Volunteer positions include scoring monitors, spotters, score card checkers, and alternates. Volunteering is a great way to get involved with the community, and you’ll be able to help showcase what a spectacular area North Platte is! This link will also allow you to sign up!&nbsp;

While it is helpful for our volunteers to have a basic knowledge of golf, it is by no means necessary. Each day, we will need over 50 volunteers.&nbsp;

Volunteers sought for NSAA Class C Girls State Golf Championship 

LINCOLN (AP) —A Nebraska judge on Friday rejected an effort to block a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/transgender-health-care-abortion-ban-nebraska-1a88067bf403559116df7c09e004e472">ban on abortions</a>&nbsp;after 12 weeks of pregnancy and restrictions on gender-affirming surgery.

Lancaster County District Court Judge Lori Maret sided with the state and allowed a law&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trans-health-abortion-laws-nebraska-3bd01980e0df33bc89afc3d5b0c11f93">approved by the Nebraska Legislature</a>&nbsp;earlier this year to remain in effect.

The law outlaws abortion after 12 weeks of pregnancy with exceptions for rape, incest and to save the life of the mother. As of Oct. 1, it also will prevent people under 19 from receiving gender-affirming surgery and restricts the use of hormone treatments and puberty blockers for minors.

Planned Parenthood of the Heartland had filed a lawsuit arguing legislators violated a constitutional requirement that bills not contain more than one subject. Lawmakers&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/abortion-transgender-ban-nebraska-filibuster-94f1e637e2d9034f608c793bf929e888">added the abortion ban</a>&nbsp;to an existing bill dealing with gender-related care.

The attorney general contended the issues didn't violate the rule because they were both health related.

“I am grateful for the court’s thorough decision," Gov. Jim Pillen said in a statement. “I was proud to sign into law a measure that protects kids and defends the unborn, and I am pleased that it has been upheld.”

Mindy Rush Chipman, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Nebraska, which helped represent Planned Parenthood, said they would appeal the decision.

“State senators combined unrelated restrictions into a single bill in their rush to take away Nebraskans’ rights,” Rush Chipman said in a statement. “That tactic violated the text of the Nebraska Constitution, which plainly says that ‘no bill shall contain more than one subject.’ As a result, Nebraskans are being seriously harmed.”

Ruth Richardson, CEO of Planned Parenthood North Central States, called the decision a “devastating blow to Nebraskans’ fundamental right to make what should be private decisions between them and their doctors.”

Richardson said the organization would continue to provide abortions before 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Legislators added the abortion restrictions to a transgender-related bill as an amendment after a separate bill to ban abortions at about six weeks failed to overcome a filibuster.

The event is to help fundraise money for kids wishes in the Make A Wish Greater Nebraska region. "All of the proceeds go to Greater Nebraska Wish Kids," said Courtney Hughbanks. "That includes all kids west of York County." So far this year, the Make A Wish Greater Nebraska has about 35 kids in the pipeline looking for wishes.&nbsp;

Canon Rath talked with Amy Parker and Tad Haneborg about the D&amp;N Event Center Shoe Drive.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The D&amp;N Event Center in North Platte is continuing their shoe drive they began back in July. Tomorrow from 2 pm - 4 pm central time. the shoe drive will host a drop off event where you can head over to the event center and drop off new or gently used shoes. You can drop off shoes at the southwest corner of the D&amp;N Event Center.&nbsp;

The purpose of the event is to fundraise for youth leagues but also send the shoes off to other countries. "The shoes are going to go to underdeveloped countries and help build micro businesses so these folks can establish financial stability in their communities by reselling these shoes," said Amy Parker.&nbsp;

The drop off event tomorrow is from 2pm - 4 pm in the southwest corner of the D&amp;N Event Center over by the orange tent and trailer. You can donate shoes till September 1st. NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska, August 9, 2023— The Alzheimer’s Association invites North Platte Area residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in its Walk to End Alzheimer’s® on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Cody Park, 1601 N. Jeffers St, North Platte, NE. Check-in is at 8:00 a.m., the opening ceremony at 8:45 a.m. with the Walk to follow. Participants are encouraged to register early and fundraise to help the Alzheimer’s Association reach its $25,000 goal. Registration is free.

On Walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. The colors of the Promise Garden flowers represent people’s connection to Alzheimer’s — their personal reasons to end the disease.

More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease — a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 40,000 family members and friends provide care to 35,000 people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the state of Nebraska.
