focuses on utilizing clues obtained through in-depth image analysis
to identify the child victims depicted in child exploitation
material, while ECAP seeks national and international media exposure
of unknown adults (referred to as John/Jane Does) who visibly display
their faces and/or other distinguishing characteristics in
association with child pornography images.

UPDATED FBI seeking individual who may have information on child sexual assault victim

The ServSafe Food Handler program is designed for kitchen employees including but not limited to cooks, dish machine operators, shipment receivers and employees who handle and prepare food in restaurants and other food service establishments. ServSafe Food Handler is the second level of the Nebraska Restaurant Association’s Food Safety First Program. The first level is the ServSafe Manager training program for restaurant owners and foodservice managers.

ServSafe Food Handler Food Safety Training Course will be offered virtually and in three locations in west central Nebraska.

Register by March 9 for the in-person classes that will be held in McCook, North Platte, or Lexington. All current Direct Health Measures in effect for the location will be followed.

Food safety training being offered in North Platte, McCook, Lexington

There’s now hope for those working with overstimulated children. The Mid-Plains Community College Imperial Campus will offer a class on the subject from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 13 at its location, 1324 Broadway St., in Imperial.

“Behavior issues in children can sometimes be caused by overstimulation and not being able to process the steps it takes to calm down,” said Katie Gebert, instructor for the course.

Gebert has a degree in Early Childhood Education and has worked specifically with students who have certain needs related to overstimulation.

“Most children do not already know how to self-regulate,” Gebert said. “It is something that needs to be taught. For example, when a child is working on an activity and there is something that goes wrong, some children will react in a much different way as compared to one that is not overstimulated. Overstimulated children have more on their minds than just that activity and that one problem. To them, their world has just been turned upside down.”

In her class, she will demonstrate how to make sensory bottles, discuss the significance of having designated areas for children to calm down and explain ways children can be taught to self-regulate.

The $30 registration fee will cover the cost of materials for the sensory items created in class as well as an accompanying book, “The Way I Feel.”

MPCC offers help for overstimulated children

North Platte Community College’s Business and Community Education department is expanding its motorcycle safety training program following the success of initial classes last summer.

Kendrick Marshall, Business and Community Education coordinator, said the plan is to more than double the classes offered this year – bringing the total to 20.

“We had an amazing response last year – people were beating down the door,” Marshall said. “We ran nine classes and trained 51 students. I hope that popularity continues. I expect it to.”

The Basic Rider Course is geared toward beginners and returning riders. It was developed by the&nbsp;Motorcycle Safety Foundation and is approved by the State of Nebraska. It is taught by MSF-certified instructors.

The course consists of 15 hours of hands-on motorcycle training as well as a three-hour online class that must be completed ahead of time.

Students will learn the fundamentals of becoming safe and responsible motorcycle riders as well as the physical and mental skills required for operating a motorcycle in everyday road situations. Advice on basic motorcycle safety checks and the types and benefits of motorcycle-specific riding apparel will also be presented.

<a>“No previous experience is necessary to participate,” said Marshall. “The same balance skills needed to ride a bicycle are used in these classes, so for those who are comfortable with and enjoy riding bicycles – this could be a fun step up.”</a>

Successful completion will allow students to obtain a motorcycle license without any additional riding or testing. It could also lead to insurance discounts depending on the carrier.

Motorcycles will be furnished. Helmets are available as well, but attendees are also welcome to take their own.

Sessions are scheduled for April 17-18, every weekend in May and throughout the summer. Classes are limited to six students each and are expected to fill up fast – partly because NPCC is the only motorcycle safety training provider of its kind between Kearney and Cheyenne.

“We have been without on this end of the state for quite some time, and have definitely filled a need,” Marshall said. “One of the first students to sign up for classes this year is from Scottsbluff, and last year, we even drew from out of state.”

Last week, the United States carried out a distinctive national tradition: Our country underwent a peaceful transition of power.&nbsp; Looking back on the history of nations, this is not typical.&nbsp; Transfers of power between leaders have often been tumultuous.&nbsp;

While the federal government is responsible for our country’s defense and certain policy areas, the U.S. Constitution is structured to let state governments take the lead in many areas that impact the day-to-day lives of Americans. &nbsp;Our Republic’s federal system acknowledges that we’re a very diverse country with 50 different states.&nbsp; As President Joe Biden begins his term, my hope is that governors will continue to lead as they have throughout our country’s history.

The Cornhusker State is a great example of why federalism matters.&nbsp; For instance, Nebraska is the least indebted state in the country. &nbsp;That’s because our state constitution does not allow us to take on a lot of debt. &nbsp;This has helped us avoid some of the financial problems other states have run into.&nbsp; Thanks to our federal system, Nebraska has positioned our state as a great place to grow for farm and ranch families.&nbsp; We protect our Second Amendment.&nbsp; We’re a pro-life state.&nbsp; And we are working to become the most veteran-friendly state in the nation.

The pandemic response is another good example of why our federal system works for Nebraskans. &nbsp;The 50 states have had 50 different responses to coronavirus according to what state leaders think is best.&nbsp; In turn, state leaders will be accountable to voters for their handling of the pandemic.&nbsp;

If we had to deal with a one-size-fits-all answer, I have no doubt that Nebraska would have been less successful in slowing the spread of the virus.&nbsp; Because states were managing the pandemic response, we were able to go out on our own, as Nebraska, and secure the resources we needed.&nbsp; Launching Test Nebraska in April allowed us to more than double our testing capacity in the state.&nbsp; At the time we started Test Nebraska, the federal government did not have the resources we needed to expand testing. &nbsp;The reagents needed for the tests were all passing through the CDC, which was limiting their availability.&nbsp; As a state, we successfully secured our own contracts and resources to do tests.

We also used federal assistance to buy PPE. &nbsp;A small state like Nebraska would have been at a disadvantage if we had been at the mercy of the federal government to provide PPE to us.&nbsp; Working with great companies like Werner Enterprises in Nebraska, we were able to secure PPE on our own. &nbsp;We actually have had more success purchasing what we needed than states like California.&nbsp; Throughout our response, we’ve leveraged our nimbleness to compete and succeed.&nbsp;

Previously, the Trump Administration honored our country’s tried-and-true tradition of state-managed, federally supported emergency response efforts.&nbsp; This continues to make good sense given the difference between states like Nebraska and New York.&nbsp; In keeping with federalism, the Trump Administration entrusted states to direct a significant portion of federal coronavirus assistance.&nbsp; In Nebraska, our reliance on farming and ranching means we have unique, ag-related needs that other states are not experiencing.&nbsp; Instead of counting on a bureaucrat in Washington to figure this out and plan accordingly, it’s best to give states a role in assessing needs and directing federal assistance.&nbsp; We’re closer to what’s happening “on the ground.” &nbsp;We have relationships at the local level—connections to city mayors, county commissioners, and local economic development groups. &nbsp;We also regularly interact with statewide associations that can articulate the needs of their members.&nbsp; Because we understand these relationships, state governments are better suited to identify local needs and respond to them appropriately.

What comes next remains to be seen.&nbsp; During his first few days in office, President Biden has issued a number of executive orders.&nbsp; Nebraskans should be aware of how these policies will affect our state.&nbsp;

On January 20th, President Biden cancelled the presidential permit for the Keystone XL Pipeline.&nbsp; This is a regrettable decision.&nbsp; Keystone XL is a critical part of a comprehensive strategy to ensure U.S. energy independence.&nbsp; Failure to construct the pipeline would mean greater reliance on foreign oil sources, such as Russia and Saudi Arabia.&nbsp; It would also result in fewer jobs and less property tax relief for Nebraskans.&nbsp; The Keystone XL project would greatly benefit not just Nebraska, but the entire country.&nbsp; Our hope is that TC Energy presses forward despite this temporary roadblock.

We are also likely to see a shift in how the federal government approaches pro-life issues, such as abortion.&nbsp; Last week, Dr. Anthony Fauci told the World Health Organization that the federal government would discontinue the Mexico City policy.&nbsp; The Mexico City policy, which has been in effect under pro-life administrations beginning with President Ronald Reagan, bans U.S. foreign aid for non-governmental family planning agencies that perform or promote abortions.&nbsp; By discontinuing the policy, the Biden Administration would authorize taxpayer dollars to fund abortions around the world.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (NSP)-One person was killed in a crash this morning on Interstate 80 near North Platte. The crash was one of the dozens of weather-related incidents that occurred Tuesday following Monday’s winter storm.

At approximately 6:10 a.m. CT, NSP was notified that an eastbound semi had tipped onto its side and was partially blocking the westbound lanes of I-80 near mile marker 172. Moments later, a westbound semi struck the first semi. Both occupants of the eastbound semi were ejected during the crash. Both had been wearing seatbelts, but removed them after their semi had tipped over and came to a stop. The driver, Richard Zow, 42, of Aurora, Colorado, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The passenger of the eastbound semi and the driver of the westbound semi were both transported to Great Plains Health in North Platte with non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger of the westbound semi was not injured. Weather is believed to be a factor in the crash.

In addition to this crash, troopers have responded to 21 crashes and performed more than 170 motorist assists today. Troopers responded to approximately 400 weather-related incidents on Monday.

I-80 crash near North Platte claims 1 life, injures 2 others

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska's unemployment held steady last month at 3% and the state is tied with South Dakota for the nation's lowest rate, according to data released Tuesday.

The state Department of Labor said Nebraska's rate hasn't changed since October and is the same as the rate from September to December 2019.

"Nebraska employment has recovered significantly since April, which was the peak for employment losses due to the pandemic," said Nebraska Commissioner of Labor John Albin.

Albin said the state has added more than 71,000 nonfarm jobs since April, for a total of roughly 1 million in December.

The low unemployment rate is likely due to a combination of factors, including major industries in Nebraska that weren't hit as hard by the pandemic and unemployed people who aren't counted because they've stopped looking for jobs and no longer qualify for unemployment.

Nonfarm employment was up 5,394 over the month, the largest December increase ever, but down 21,403 over the year. Private industries with the most growth year over year were education and health, financial activities and mining and construction.

The national seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for December is 6.7%, the same as the November rate and up from the December 2019 rate of 3.6%.

The Omaha area matched Nebraska's 3% unemployment rate, while the Lincoln area's rate was 2.9% and the Grand Island arean's was 4.4% for the month.

WCDHD offering Drive-Thru Flu Vaccine Clinic

KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska at Kearney will be closed Tuesday due to hazardous winter weather conditions and to give the university additional time to meet the transportation and mobility needs of the campus community.

Kearney received 8 inches of snow Monday by 5 p.m., and a winter storm warning remained in effect until 3 a.m. Tuesday. Additional snowfall accumulations from 2 to 4 inches are expected Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

“While priorities have been set to make snow removal efforts as effective and efficient as possible, the large amount of snow accumulation requires an additional day to fully complete snow removal to maximize safety and ensure daily university operations can continue,” said Jon Watts, UNK vice chancellor of business and finance.

Tuesday’s closure impacts all on-site and remote classes. Calvin T. Ryan Library and the Plambeck Early Childhood Education Center will also be closed.

Dining services will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. at The Market @ 27th and Louie’s Diner. Starbucks will open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and The Grid from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Antelope Bookstore will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tuesday’s UNK women’s basketball game against Fort Hays State has been moved to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Health and Sports Center.

Essential personnel should report to their supervisor to determine their work status.

UNK closed for second straight day due to winter storm

Interstate 80 was opened up at around 10:20 a.m., according to NDOT.

The Nebraska Department reports at 6:55 am on Tuesday the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 are closed at North Platte (mile marker 179) to Hershey (mile marker 164).

Highway 30 is open to westbound traffic. The closure is expected to last a couple of hours.

UPDATED Interstate 80 westbound closed at North Platte due to crash

Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson has called on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ban menthol cigarettes. In a letter dated January 22, Peterson and 22 other AGs said that, in the interest of public health, the ban should be implemented “urgently.”

Many people have the mistaken idea that menthol cigarettes are safer than non-menthol flavored brands, states the letter. That, and the fact that the menthol flavor masks the harshness of cigarette smoke, makes it more likely for adolescents to experiment and become addicted.

“Youth are a great concern” of Peterson’s, said Suzanne Gage, his director of communications.. Peterson also&nbsp;serves on the governing board of Truth Initiative, a non-profit organization that works to reduce youth tobacco initiation and use.

The AG letter also states that menthol cigarettes disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, “in particular African-American smokers.”

The Tobacco Control Act passed by Congress in 2009 prohibited all flavors in cigarettes except menthol, but gave the FDA authority to ban menthol cigarettes. If they had done so, beginning in 2010, around 17,000 lives could have been saved, and 2.3 million people prevented from smoking by 2020, according to the attorney generals’ letter.

Nebraska Attorney General proposes ban of menthol cigarettes

LINCOLN, Neb.-This morning, Governor Pete Ricketts officially proclaimed January 24-30, 2021 as “School Choice Week” during a ceremony at the State Capitol.&nbsp;

This year, the Governor has proposed a budget that includes $2 million annually, in each of the next two fiscal years, to fund opportunity scholarships for low-income, K-12 students to be able to attend a private school.&nbsp; Gov. Ricketts’ budget also proposes a $3 million investment to triple the size of the State’s textbook loan program.&nbsp; This program provides private school students with access to learning resources.

Walter Blanks, Jr. of the American Federation for Children joined the Governor to celebrate school choice.&nbsp; He shared his personal experience as a student who benefited from school choice in Ohio. &nbsp;Blanks urged Nebraskans to take action to give more families the opportunity to select the best learning environment for their children.

Rachel Terry, who leads School Choice Nebraska, also urged Nebraska’s Legislature to expand educational opportunities.&nbsp; While living in another state, school choice helped her child to overcome a learning challenge.&nbsp; This experience motivated Terry to form a grassroots organization to promote school choice after moving to Nebraska.

Additionally, Nebraska State Patrol Colonel John Bolduc attended this morning’s briefing to give an update on how snowstorms across the state are impacting travel. &nbsp;He encouraged Nebraskans to visit&nbsp;<a href="http://511.nebraska.gov/" target="_blank">511.nebraska.gov</a>&nbsp;to view road conditions in their communities. &nbsp;He cautioned Nebraskans in affected areas to avoid travel today.&nbsp; Colonel Bolduc also reminded motorists to call *55 for assistance if they become stranded.

Gov. Ricketts proclaims 'School Choice Week' in Nebraska

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A major winter storm blanketed parts of the middle of the country with snow that was forecast into late Tuesday in some areas, disrupting traffic and closing some coronavirus testing sites.

The National Weather Service said at least 4 inches of snow was expected across most of an area stretching from central Kansas northeast to Chicago and southern Michigan. Parts of southeast Nebraska and western Iowa got more than three times that much by Tuesday morning.

"This is historic snow," said National Weather Service meteorologist Taylor Nicolaisen, who is based near Omaha, Nebraska.

There were early closures of several coronavirus testing sites on Monday in Nebraska and Iowa, and both states saw more than a foot of snow in places by Tuesday morning. Nicolaisen said up to 15 inches was likely between York, Nebraska, and Des Moines, Iowa, and that it has been at least 15 years since that area received more than a foot of snow in a single storm.

In northern Illinois, snowfall began around sunset Monday and by early Tuesday more than 3 inches was reported in places. Meteorologist Bett Borchardt forecast snowfall up to 8 inches (20.3 centimeters) or more before it ends Tuesday evening.

The last comparable snowfall hit the area in November 2018, when 8.4 inches fell.

Chicago on Monday warned residents that hazardous conditions were likely during Tuesday morning commutes and some power outages are possible. City officials have dispatched about 280 salt spreaders to clear main streets and have created warming centers in libraries and park facilities. And a winter weather advisory was issued for northwest Indiana.

Many schools and businesses closed Monday as the storm moved across the Midwest and officials urged drivers to stay off the roads. In western Iowa, Missouri Valley Superintendent Brent Hoesing reworked the lyrics of the 1970s hit "I Will Survive" to tell students in his district,&nbsp;<a href="https://youtu.be/X7wTdApPpzQ" target="_blank">"So Stay Inside."</a>

Roughly 250 semi-trucks waited out the storm at the Petro truck stop alongside Interstate 80 in York, Nebraska. Manager Rachael Adamson said she could see knee-high drifts and that sidewalks needed to be shoveled every half hour.

"We haven't had this much snow in quite a few years," Adamson said.

In the South,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/alabama-weather-birmingham-9111aa9ec1c629c58e5e86f8f7c36e1d" target="_blank">a tornado touched down</a>&nbsp;in an Alabama city north of Birmingham, leaving one person dead after a tree fell on a home. The tornado hit the Fultondale area of Jefferson County late Monday night, and other homes were damaged along with businesses.

Over the weekend, more than&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/winter-weather-droughts-storms-san-bernardino-weather-52fe9f29bd46bf0969a71504f19ba564" target="_blank">a foot of snow fell</a>&nbsp;in Southern California's mountains. Interstate 5 was shut down Monday in the Tejon Pass between Los Angeles and the San Joaquin Valley. Wind, snow and ice also forced the closure of State Route 58 through the Tehachapi Pass.

Until recently, California had been experiencing significantly dry weather accompanied by relentless wildfires. A band of clouds suggested more rain could fall Tuesday in areas north and south of San Francisco Bay, bringing the threat of possible flash floods and landslides in areas scarred by the fires.

Sacramento-area National Weather Service forecasters predict an abundance of snow in the Sierra Nevada this week that will make travel difficult.

A storm buried northern Arizona in snow on Monday while sending flurries to the outskirts of Las Vegas and Phoenix. And most of Nevada was bracing for another series of powerful winter storms that could bring several feet for snow to the mountains above Lake Tahoe by Thursday.

LINCOLN, Neb. (NSP)-Nebraska State Troopers have responded to more than 300 weather-related incidents today as record-breaking snowfall greatly affected travel throughout much of Nebraska.

As of 9:00 p.m. CT, troopers have performed 313 motorist assists and responded to 28 crashes. Troopers remain active this evening, continuing to respond to incidents on Interstate 80 and other major roadways. Travel is still not advised during this winter storm.

Nebraska Department of Transportation plow crews have been out in force all day and continue their work to clear the roads tonight. Throughout the day, five NDOT plows were struck by other vehicles. None of those crashes involved injuries. Four of those plows were able to return to service and continue their work.

One crash forced the closure of eastbound Interstate 80 near Lexington for approximately three hours. The crash occurred at approximately 3:55 p.m., when a westbound Toyota pickup lost control, crossed the median, and struck an eastbound Honda Pilot. Eastbound traffic then slowed, but a chain-reaction crash occurred, involving several vehicles. Six people were transported to the hospital in Lexington, all with non-life-threatening injuries. NSP, the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, and volunteer fire departments from Cozad and Lexington all responded.

All motorists are urged to travel only when absolutely necessary during this storm. Any motorist who needs to be on the road should alert others of their travel, destination, and route. That information will assist rescue crews to locate the driver should they get stranded. Any motorist who becomes stranded should call the NSP Highway Helpline at *55 or 800-525-5555.

For Tuesday, motorists should assess travel conditions before attempting to travel. Today’s snowfall is likely to have an ongoing effect on travel in many parts of the state as NDOT and local crews continue their work to clear the roads. As road conditions continue to deteriorate, a crash has forced the partial closure of Interstate 80 in Dawson County.

The Nebraska State Patrol says the eastbound lanes between Cozad at Lexington (mile markers 222 to 237) are closed due to the crash.

Radio station KRVN reports the crash was a head-on collision with Cozad Fire and Rescue on the scene with law enforcement.

It is also being reported that other vehicles are piling up behind the crash.

We are awaiting more information from the Nebraska State Patrol.

Snow continues tonight through tomorrow evening

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Gov. Pete Ricketts on Monday defended Nebraska's approach to distributing coronavirus vaccines, saying the state won't redirect doses away from rural areas that are outpacing Omaha and Lincoln with vaccinations.

Ricketts made the comments after state officials reported Friday that&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/pete-ricketts-nebraska-coronavirus-pandemic-baedf76c534c676bf1a27f508840708a" target="_blank">15 rural public health districts in Nebraska</a>&nbsp;have already finished the first phase of the state vaccination plan, which focused on front-line health workers.

Those districts have since moved on to the next high-priority group, consisting largely of residents who are at least 65 years old and those who are vulnerable because of health conditions. Meanwhile, the public health districts encompassing Omaha and Lincoln are still working through the initial phase and won't shift to the next group until next week, primarily because they have much larger populations and more medical workers.

Ricketts said Nebraska distributed vaccines based on the populations that are most affected by the pandemic.

He said it's also important for local public health districts to get a consistent, predictable number of vaccines each week so they can plan accordingly. The federal government has delivered roughly the number of doses it promised to Nebraska, but demand still outpaces supply, he said.

"The single biggest thing they can do is get us more vaccines," Ricketts said at a news conference.

Nebraska officials said last week that young, healthy residents who don't fit into one of the state's high-priority groups may have to wait four months until they're eligible to get vaccinated. The wait time could shrink if drugmakers Pfizer and Moderna ramp up production or if federal regulators authorize additional coronavirus vaccines for emergency use.

Nebraska officials are planning to launch a vaccine registration website on Thursday that residents can use to sign up for a vaccination and be notified when they're eligible.

Nebraska has distributed 221,394 vaccine doses, and nearly 113,000 residents have received the first of two required doses, according to the state's&nbsp;<a href="https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/ece0db09da4d4ca68252c3967aa1e9dd/page/page_1/" target="_blank">online tracking portal</a>. State officials estimated than 1.64% of Nebraska's population was vaccinated as of Monday morning.

The state reported 392 people who were hospitalized with the virus, a number that has declined from record highs in mid-November but is still elevated from earlier in the pandemic.

Nebraska has confirmed 182,147 cases and 1,870 deaths since the pandemic began. Most of those who have died so far were at least 65 years old.

Nebraska won't redirect vaccinations from rural areas

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A major winter storm threatened to blanket parts of the middle of the country with more than a foot of snow Monday, promising to disrupt travel and even forcing the closure of some coronavirus testing sites.

The National Weather Service said at least 4 inches (10 centimeters) of snow is expected across most of an area stretching from central Kansas northeast to Chicago and southern Michigan. Parts of southeast Nebraska and western Iowa could get more than three times that much.

Several coronavirus testing sites in Nebraska and Iowa planned to close early Monday because of the snow. More than 6 inches (15 centimeters) of snow had already fallen in parts of eastern Nebraska by midday.

National Weather Service meteorologist Taylor Nicolaisen said 10 to 15 inches (25 to 38 centimeters) of snow is likely between Lincoln, Nebraska, and Des Moines, Iowa, and that it has been at least 15 years since that area received more than a foot of snow in a single storm.

"This is a historic snow," said Nicolaisen, who is based near Omaha, Nebraska.

Many schools and businesses closed Monday as the storm moved across the region. In western Iowa, Missouri Valley Superintendent Brent Hoesing reworked the lyrics of the 1970s hit "I Will Survive" to tell students in his district to&nbsp;<a href="https://youtu.be/X7wTdApPpzQ" target="_blank">"So Stay Inside."</a>

Officials urged drivers to stay off the roads during the storm, especially during the heaviest snowfall in the afternoon and evening. Nebraska State Patrol troopers had helped at least 60 drivers who got stuck or slid off the road by midday Monday.

"Do not travel unless it's absolutely necessary," said Nebraska State Patrol Col. John Bolduc.

Roughly 250 semi trucks pulled off the road to wait out the storm at the Petro truck stop alongside Interstate 80 in York, Nebraska. Celebrate 'National Plan for Vacation Day' with Nebraska Tourism

LINCOLN, Neb. – Gov. Pete Ricketts has appointed Ken Curry of Columbus, a corporate leader in public power and customer care, to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission to represent District 3 (northeast Nebraska).

Curry is vice president of customer services and chief customer officer for Nebraska Public Power District, which sells power to customers in all or part of 86 of Nebraska’s 93 counties.

“My role is to focus on the customer and to do the very best for the customers and to bring them the services they are looking for at a very affordable cost,” Curry said. He sees that translating to his role on the Commission, which he said already provides outstanding customer service, in his ability to continue to improve those services with Nebraskans.

Curry was an Eagle Scout and is now the father of two Eagle Scouts. “I grew up loving the outdoors, and my dad introduced me to all kinds of great outdoor experiences. Growing up in the outdoors is beneficial to our kids and families.”

With an interest in youth outdoor activities, Curry says his new role fits perfectly. “Supporting the outdoors, supporting new generations getting exposure to the outdoors and the youth aspects are very appealing to me,” he said.

Curry’s appointment, subject to approval by the Nebraska Legislature, will be effective through Jan. 15, 2025. He succeeds Jim Ernst of Columbus on the board.

“I’m truly honored to be appointed to this role by the Governor and extremely excited to serve,” Curry said. “The Game and Parks Commission is a great organization, and I look forward to supporting the team and helping move the agency forward.”

LINCOLN, Neb. – The 2021 mountain lion hunting season in the Pine Ridge closed Jan 24 when the harvest limit of four (three males and one female) was met. Season 1 opened Jan. 2.

The harvest of mountain lions allows the population to remain resilient and healthy, while halting growth or moderately reducing the population size. This maintains the population density in the Pine Ridge at a similar level to that of other states that allow mountain lion hunting.
