The public can bid on the items now until 6 p.m. Jan. 20 through the Isabell Auction Service website at:&nbsp;<a href="https://www.isabellauction.com/" target="_blank">isabellauction.com</a>.

Everything from carpet, doors, windows and mirrors to ceramic tile, extension cords and even basketball hoops are up for grabs.

A skid-steer, front-end loader, semi-trailers, day cab semi-truck, mowers, welders, lumber, racks, carts, restaurant equipment and office furniture will also be available.&nbsp;Items will continue to be added to the auction through the end of this week.

Sister Renée Mirkes, PhD, gave remarks on the importance of respecting religious freedom in civil society.&nbsp; Sister Mirkes directs the ethics division of the Saint Paul VI Institute in Omaha.&nbsp; Pastor William Femi Awodele, Executive Director of Christian Couples Fellowship International, shared his insights on the uniqueness of the U.S. Constitution and its guarantee of religious freedom.

This morning, Gov. LINCOLN, Neb. — Ever wondered what a day in the life of a Nebraska Game and Parks Commission conservation officer is really like? Or what equipment the zoologist uses to track tiger beetles? How about how many miles the public information officers hike to get photos for a Nebraskaland story?

Wonder no more. During 2021, Game and Parks will host a monthly virtual Conservation Career Chat featuring one of 12 jobs within the agency. The live interviews will be at 10 a.m. CST on the third Wednesday of each month.

Registration is not required, and the chats are free to join through the unique URLs below. The scheduled chats are:

Participants — particularly students interested in conservation careers — are encouraged to ask questions relating to the career field during the live interview. Presenters will showcase photos, props and other information about their job.

Mid-Plains Community College announces President's, Dean's lists for fall semester

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - An environmental group said Tuesday that it plans to sue the U.S. government over a decision to reclassify a large scavenging beetle as threatened instead of endangered.

The Arizona-based Center for Biological Diversity said it will sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services over its move last fall to list the American burying beetle as threatened. It had been considered an endangered species since 1989, and the location of its habitat in Plains states created issues for the Keystone XL oil pipeline and other oil and gas projects.

"Far from having recovered, this striking orange-and-black beetle is facing dire threats from climate change and habitat destruction," said attorney Kristine Akland with the center. Akland said the rule change was a result of pressure from the oil and gas industry.

Federal officials&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/9609217a228f452db35fc706ea3bfad2" target="_blank">have said that conservation efforts</a>&nbsp;over the past three decades have helped the beetle's population recover, and it can now be found in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Dakota and on Nantucket Island off the coast of Massachusetts. At the time the beetle was termed endangered, it was found only in small populations in eastern Oklahoma and Block Island off the coast of Rhode Island.

Fish and Wildlife Services spokeswoman Lesli Gray said the agency "used the best available science in its decision to downlist the American burying beetle." She declined to comment about the threatened lawsuit because officials haven't had a chance to review it.

The agency has acknowledged that the beetle continues to face threats from climate change and land use changes, but officials have said the beetle no longer meets the definition of endangered.

Over the years, the oil and gas industry has borne significant costs to protect the beetle and other endangered species. The large, black, nocturnal beetle has hardened protective wing covers marked by two scalloped shaped orange patterns. The beetles are scavengers that eat decaying animals. They lay their eggs beside a small carcass that they bury, then feed their larvae from that carcass.

Mallori Miller with the Independent Petroleum Association of America trade group said she is confident the new threatened listing for the beetle will be upheld.

"The beetle's listing was rooted in faulty assumptions about the species' range, distribution, and abundance," Miller said.

The presence of the beetle in Nebraska's Sandhills region - along with landowner concerns - prompted TC Energy to reroute its Keystone XL pipeline through part of the state. And last year, questions about the potential impact on endangered species, including the beetle and a fish called the pallid sturgeon,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/89e3f21d344db86b8743665ea66b892c" target="_blank">led a federal judge</a>&nbsp;to cancel a key permit that would have allowed the pipeline to cross hundreds of rivers and streams along the route.

Construction of the Keystone XL pipeline is underway along parts of its 1,200 mile (1,930-kilometer) route from Canada to Nebraska while officials reevaluate the impact of its water crossings. The Fish and Wildlife Services said last week that Keystone XL wouldn't have a significant impact on the beetle's population, so the project received a permit to move forward with work where the beetle lives in Nebraska and South Dakota.

TC Energy spokeswoman Robynn Tysver said the company is "committed to taking detailed steps throughout the construction and operation of the pipeline to minimize and mitigate any impact on the American burying beetle."

Environmentalists fight move to reduce beetle's protections

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A decades-old rule designed to promote transparency and accountability in the Nebraska Legislature could be in jeopardy under a proposal presented Tuesday to a committee of state lawmakers.

The proposed rule change would bar reporters from otherwise private "executive sessions" of legislative committees, where lawmakers discuss and vote on bills. The sessions are closed to the general public, but legislative rules allow reporters to attend them and report what happened.

The rule was created in keeping with Nebraska's one-house, officially nonpartisan Legislature, the only one of its kind nationally. Nebraska's 87-year-old system was the brainchild of former U.S. senator George Norris, who railed in the 1930s against closed-door conference committees as a corrupting force in state politics.

Sen. Dan Hughes, of Venango, said he introduced the measure after getting quoted several years ago in what he believed to be a private, frank discussion with fellow lawmakers. Hughes argued that allowing reporters to hear those deliberations has a chilling effect on senators, including himself, who want to freely exchange thoughts on politically sensitive issues.

"We're not trying to hide anything," Hughes said in testimony before the Legislature's Rules Committee. "We're trying to provide a better outcome by allowing members (of the Legislature) the ability to speak freely in an executive session."

The proposal drew criticism from free-speech advocates and members of the news media, who said changing the rule would undermine public trust and make it more difficult for journalists to report accurately on legislative issues.

"Don't tell your constituents that you want to conduct more business behind closed doors," said Dave Bundy, editor of the Lincoln Journal Star, speaking on behalf of Media of Nebraska.

Bundy said transparency helps fight the kind of misinformation and conspiracy theories that have taken root in national politics.

JoAnne Young, a former Lincoln Journal Star reporter who covered the Nebraska Legislature for 14 years, said discussions that take place in executive sessions provide invaluable context and background for reporters, which helps them inform the public.

Young pointed to the Legislature's Appropriations Committee, which plays a major role in determining how billions of tax dollars are spent each year. During executive sessions, lawmakers review proposals in detail and talk openly about challenges that some of their ideas could face.

"Being able to listen to those discussions helps reporters write accurate stories and keep taxpayers and your constituents informed as to what their representatives are doing here in Lincoln," Young said.

The closed-door discussions lawmakers have may be difficult to have in front of reporters, but they're important because the issues they address affect potentially millions of Nebraskans, said Spike Eickholt, an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Nebraska. Eickholt said the coverage sometimes helps lawmakers keep tabs on what's happening in other committees.

Committee members also considered a proposal to try to preserve formal decorum in the Legislature following a series of&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/legislature-bills-dr-seuss-omaha-nebraska-2291e79e1980148dc699f7b1ef12ca15" target="_blank">recent, nasty exchanges</a>&nbsp;during public debates.

Sen. Mike Flood, of Norfolk, proposed a rule that would bar senators from speaking on the legislative floor if they disparage another person, use inappropriate language or disrespect legislative traditions when it comes to interacting with others.

Senators who violate the rule could lose their on-the-record speaking privileges for 30 days, if 33 lawmakers approve the punishment. Flood said he was open to changing the numbers and wouldn't want the rule used as a political weapon, but he argued it should be available for extreme personal attacks.

"It will serve as an important deterrent," said Flood, a former speaker of the Legislature.

The Rules Committee also heard proposals to change legislative filibusters, require racial impact statements when bills are introduced and other measures. Members are expected to consider the proposed rule changes on Thursday.

Nebraska lawmakers may bar media from closed-door meetings

From an operational standpoint, headquartering SPACECOM at Offutt AFB makes perfect sense.&nbsp; The U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM), the 55th Wing, and the 557th Weather Wing at Offutt AFB already play key roles in supporting the military’s space mission.&nbsp; From 2002 until 2019, U.S. space operations were based in Bellevue as part of STRATCOM.&nbsp; The 55th Wing is the Air Force’s premier unit for global intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.&nbsp; The 557th Weather Wing is the Air Force’s meteorological unit.&nbsp; The presence of these complementary, space-related missions is why the U.S. Marine Corps chose Offutt as home for its newly formed space unit this fall.

Our state also has a track record of completing groundbreaking public-private partnerships on time and under budget.&nbsp; For instance, local investment in the Veterans’ Affairs ambulatory clinic in Omaha saved taxpayers over $30 million.&nbsp; This community support also allowed the clinic to be constructed ahead of schedule even with the disruptions of the pandemic.&nbsp; Private-public partnership also paved the way for the innovative iEXCEL program at UNMC, which uses state-of-the-art simulation technologies to train doctors.&nbsp; Last year, the Legislature and community donors pledged a combined $600 million—contingent on a $1 billion federal investment—for a prospective partnership with the Department of Defense on a cutting-edge disaster response medical project at UNMC.&nbsp; In similar fashion, Nebraska has pledged $107 million in public-private funds to offset the estimated $1 billion of costs to build SPACECOM headquarters in Bellevue.

This spirit of partnership extends beyond our state’s borders.&nbsp; We’ve engaged leaders across the Midwest to recruit SPACECOM to the Heartland.&nbsp; Governors of neighboring states, both Republican and Democrat, have written letters to support SPACECOM coming to Nebraska.&nbsp; Adjutant Generals of the National Guards in a half-dozen states have expressed support of SPACECOM being based at Offutt in Bellevue.&nbsp; President Carter has recruited Kansas State, the University of North Dakota, and Purdue to join with the University of Nebraska to develop academic programs to meet the anticipated needs of the U.S. Space Command.

Nebraskans honor our servicemen and women, and our residents take great pride in hosting strategic missions that protect our nation.&nbsp;In December 2019, Space Force became the newest branch of the U.S. military.&nbsp; Its mission is vital to national security.&nbsp; We depend on spaced-based services for navigation, communication, and commerce.&nbsp; Center pivots use GPS technology to irrigate crops.&nbsp; Airplanes communicate with satellites to chart flight paths and safely transport people through the skies.&nbsp; Satellite technology helps facilitate financial transactions.&nbsp; Satellites relay television signals into millions of homes connecting people to news broadcasts and entertainment.&nbsp; These are just a few of the ways satellites orbiting the planet in space affect our day-to-day lives.&nbsp; Additionally, our armed forces rely on space technology to keep the United States secure.&nbsp; For instance, missile detection systems rely on spacecraft in orbit to monitor the Earth’s surface for activity.&nbsp; The possibility of a foreign aggressor, such as China or Russia, seeking to jam GPS signals or knock out satellites is a real threat. &nbsp;The United States needs to achieve space dominance to ensure our strength on the world stage and to preserve the peace and safety of America.&nbsp;Nebraska has put forward a compelling bid to bring SPACECOM to Offutt Air Force Base (AFB) in Bellevue.&nbsp; Our state is one of six finalists to host the command.&nbsp; We expect the Department of the Air Force to decide on a site this month, and we’ve made a great case for Nebraska.&nbsp; Our state has the talent, commitment, and resources to successfully host SPACECOM. &nbsp;Our central location is also the ideal place for global operations aimed at defending every corner of our nation. &nbsp;Our first competitive advantage for hosting this mission is our people. &nbsp;Nebraskans are patriotic, and we give tremendous support to military families and veterans.&nbsp; Ricketts: Nebraskans want more space

Jackie Reyes is North Platte Community College’s Business Student of the Month for January.

Reyes is originally from Jaripo, a small town in the Mexican state of Michoacán. She graduated from Lexington High School in Lexington, Neb. in 2019 and is currently taking classes at NPCC to become an administrative assistant.

“I moved to Nebraska around five years ago from México, and going to college was a hard decision for me,” Reyes said. “On the first day, I knew I had made the right decision, everyone was friendly and helpful. At NPCC, I can be myself. I had the luck to get the best roommates ever. Staff and faculty are always offering help and resources if I’m having troubles with my education or personal life. If I had to choose a college all over again, it would definitely be NPCC.”

Reyes is on track to graduate in May. Outside of her studies, she works for both the college’s Human Resources department and its Safety and Security department.

“In the future, I plan to work for Human Resources, and I hope to keep helping others and doing my best in everything I do,” Reyes said. “I’m so proud of the person I’ve become, and I plan to keep working on becoming better.”

Her instructors are equally as proud of her.

“Jackie is such a pleasure to have in class,” said Jean Condon, business and office technology instructor. “She is a hard-working, dedicated and focused student. Her positive attitude and contributions to her classes make her a great team player. I look forward to recommending Jackie for the many job opportunities she is qualified to work.”

When not studying or working, Reyes enjoys reading and photography.

She is the daughter of Carmen Reyes.&nbsp;

Reyes named NPCC Business Student of the Month

As are so many schools in the state and country, the North Platte Public Schools Board of Education is facing the difficult task of cutting $2 million from their 2021-2022 budget.

The board held its regular meeting on Monday and it began with the expression of frustration.

Board member Ivan Mitchell opened the meeting by expressing some concern and frustration about information regarding possible options for budget cuts that had been released to the public last week.

Mitchell was referencing an email that was sent to the parents of students at Osgood and Lake Elementary Schools by North Platte Public School District administration.

In the email, there were several options that administrators and the board were looking at in order to cut the necessary funds. One of those options was to close Lake and Osgood Elementary schools and merge those students into the remaining elementary schools

Prior to Mitchell's comments, Board President Skip Altig made it clear that, at this time, the Board and administration are only exploring and discussing options.

Mitchell, who serves on the finance sub-committee, was frustrated that the communication went out to the public before it was checked for errors and discussed further by the board.

"On January 5, I actually did not check my personal email, but started getting messages on social media," said Mitchell. "Communication went out to the Lake and Osgood parents about the different options to reduce the budget."

Mitchell said that the administration made the decision to notify the public before notifying members of the board.

"I think we have some confusion about the hierarchy and about the appropriate process for taking this out to the public," said Mitchell.

In response to Mitchell, board member Jo Ann Lundgreen noted that she had indeed received an email from Superintendent Ron Hanson in mid-December and encouraged Mitchell to recheck his email. Mitchell indicated that the email said nothing about releasing the information to the public.

Hanson spoke next and indicated that the District was making an effort to be as transparent as possible when making decisions that impact patrons.

Hanson noted that he did update the board on both December 11 and December 18 and that administration had decided to wait to notify staff and parents of the options until after the Holidays to avoid anxiety and stress.

"I pulled the cabinet team together and we decided to hold this information from our staff and our principals because we wanted them to go into the Holidays with no anxiety about a budget deficit," said Hanson.

Next, Executive Director of Finance for the District Stuart Simpson spoke and, after a lengthy review of the reasons the cuts need to be made, stated that he and the administration would like to take any school consolidations or mergers off the table.

Simpson said after a Zoom meeting with parents from Lake and Osgood, it was clear that they needed to move away from options that involved closing those schools.

Instead, it was recommended to the board that they pursue an option that doesn't involve the closure or merger of any schools but would require some staff cuts.

"Examining the multiple options, the District would like to create a one-year option of accessing the building fund levy of .01 cents, reduction of 10 non-essential staff, eliminate Adams and Madison busing, administration reduction, savings in staff hiring and program efficiency PK-12. This will save $915, 000, and the District for one year uses reserves of $1,085,000."

Mitchell then spoke again and urged the Board to discuss the options further and asked that other options be considered, including the closure of the Madison building which now houses only sixth graders, and returning sixth-graders to the elementary schools while returning Adams Middle School to the Junior High model.

At this time, numerous parents of Lake and Osgood addressed the board and all had a common theme, closing Lake and Osgood should not be an option.&nbsp;

Parents cited numerous reasons for this, including the recent reconfiguration of the schools and the stress that causes on students as well as the inconvenience of transporting students to schools throughout the city.&nbsp;

Another common concern among the parents was students who are opting out of the District by attending local private schools or other schools in the area. The Board noted that this is a concern and that Dr. Hanson and the administration were working to get these students back into the district.

In the end, the board decided that they will discuss the options further and vote on the matter at a later meeting.

North Platte School Board weighs options amid budget cuts, parents voice concerns

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - More than 40% of Nebraska's 90,000 health care workers have received the first of two doses of the coronavirus vaccine as the state continues to ramp up distribution.&nbsp;

State health officials said 78,074 of the 144,363 doses Nebraska has received so far have been administered so far - primarily to health care workers. Residents and workers at long-term care facilities have also begun getting vaccines.

About 10,000 people in the state have received both doses of the vaccine.

Nebraska said 1,197 doses of the vaccine were administered on Sunday, which is typically a slower day. The state administered an average of 5,811 doses each day last week.&nbsp;

The state reported 644 new cases of the virus and 12 deaths Monday to give Nebraska a total of 176,670 cases and 1,772 deaths since the pandemic began.&nbsp;

The seven-day rolling average of daily new cases in Nebraska has increased over the past two weeks from 798.86 new cases per day on Dec. 28 to 1,003.71 new cases per day on Monday.

The number of people hospitalized with the virus in the state increased Monday to 484 from Sunday's 475, but it remains less than half of November's peak of 987.

Over 40% of Nebraska's health care workers receive vaccine

As the number of virus cases and hospitalizations continue to decline across the state, the West Central District Health Department has reported more positive cases in their jurisdiction.

Since last Wednesday, WCDHD says there have been 68 new positive cases of COVID-19.

There are currently 539 active cases of the virus in the WCDHD jurisdiction.

WCDHD reports 68 new COVID-19 cases over last week

LINCOLN, Neb. (NSP)-Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) have arrested three people and seized 177 pounds of marijuana and one handgun during two separate incidents on Sunday.

At approximately 10:10 a.m. a trooper was at a gas station at the Milford interchange of Interstate 80, at mile marker 382, when he began speaking with the driver of a Ford Expedition, who had also stopped at the gas station. During the encounter, the trooper detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle revealed 163 pounds of marijuana, contained in duffel bags in a rooftop luggage carrier. The trooper also located a handgun in the possession of a passenger.

The driver, Richard Hunter, 55, and passenger, Jack Skinner, 45, both of Medford, Oregon, were arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound and possession with intent to deliver. Skinner was also arrested for possession of a firearm during a drug violation. Both were lodged in Seward County Jail.

Approximately one hour later, at 11:15 a.m., another trooper performed a traffic stop on an eastbound Nissan Altima for speeding at 95 miles per hour on Interstate 80 near Kearney, at mile marker 267. During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered that the driver had a suspended driver’s license.

The trooper performed a search of the vehicle and located 14 pounds of marijuana. The driver, Davon Canada, 35, of Des Moines, Iowa, was arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to deliver, and driving with a suspended license. He was lodged in Buffalo County Jail.

Both were lodged in Seward County Jail.Approximately one hour later, at 11:15 a.m., another trooper performed a traffic stop on an eastbound Nissan Altima for speeding at 95 miles per hour on Interstate 80 near Kearney, at mile marker 267. During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered that the driver had a suspended driver’s license.The trooper performed a search of the vehicle and located 14 pounds of marijuana. The driver, Davon Canada, 35, of Des Moines, Iowa, was arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to deliver, and driving with a suspended license. He was lodged in Buffalo County Jail.

North Platte police are asking the public for their assistance in locate if the suspect in a stabbing.&nbsp;

According to police, on January 1, at 10:19 p.m., Officers responded to the 1100 Block of North Walnut for an assault.&nbsp; Upon arrival, Officers made contact with a 32 year old male victim, who had an apparent stab wound to the abdomen.&nbsp; During the investigation, Officers learned that the victim and 53 year old Nick Cooper, got into an argument outside the residence.&nbsp; During the argument, Cooper stabbed&nbsp;the victim one time in the abdomen.&nbsp; The argument continued briefly after the assault and Copper&nbsp;then&nbsp;fled the scene prior to Law Enforcement arrival.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The victim&nbsp;was transported by the North Platte Fire Department to Great Plains Health where he was treated for his injuries. &nbsp;The victim suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries from the assault. &nbsp;Cooper has not been located at this time. &nbsp;Cooper is wanted for 1st&nbsp;Degree Assault and Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony. &nbsp;If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of Nick Cooper, please contact the North Platte Police Department or Lincoln County Crime Stoppers

The proposal by Sen. Tony Vargas, of Omaha, would require meatpacking companies to provide masks and adequate space for social distancing to keep the virus from spreading. Companies would also have to pay sick leave for workers who test positive for the virus, separate from any other paid sick leave.

Vargas introduced a similar measure last summer, but the bill failed to advance. His south Omaha district has a large number of meatpacking workers, and his father died from complications of the coronavirus last year.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska will take steps to ensure public safety at the state Capitol on Inauguration Day, Gov. Pete Ricketts said Monday, although he noted that last week's rally in Lincoln to support President Donald Trump was peaceful.

Ricketts made the comments as supporters of the outgoing president prepare for protests at state capitols throughout the country. A violent mob stormed the U.S. Capitol last week to try to stop Congress from certifying that President-elect Joe Biden had won the race.

"Certainly, we will take appropriate precautions," Ricketts said at a news conference.

Last week's gathering at the Nebraska Capitol drew about 400 protesters, but the event remained peaceful and ended after a few hours. Ricketts, a Trump supporter, said the protesters have a right to make their voices heard, but he condemned the violence at the U.S. Capitol.

Trump won four of Nebraska's five Electoral College votes in the election, while Biden claimed one after winning the 2nd Congressional District.

Nebraska Capitol preparing for inauguration protests

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska appears to have avoided a post-Christmas spike in coronavirus cases that many had feared, although it's not entirely clear why, Gov. Pete Ricketts said Monday.

It may be because people followed virus safety guidelines warning against attending holiday gatherings, Ricketts said during a news conference.

"I think a lot of Nebraskans made modifications to their holiday get togethers," he said. "I'd also say, there's also a lot of we don't know about this virus."

The Republican governor said the decision not to impose a statewide lockdown may also have played a role because it helped avoid pandemic fatigue that leads some people to break the recommendations. Other states,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/california-coronavirus-pandemic-b7f064ee30979fae67170b229db1c6b9" target="_blank">such as California</a>, have reported large increases in cases in December.

"We tried to strike a balance in Nebraska," Ricketts said.

Nebraska has imposed restrictions on crowd sizes and public spaces, but has never imposed a stay-at-home order or a statewide mask mandate.

The state saw&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/pete-ricketts-nebraska-coronavirus-pandemic-21451c9fa0bff2112ce64573fc327a58" target="_blank">a sharp increase in virus hospitalizations</a>&nbsp;in mid-November, raising concerns about bed space and burnout among hospital workers. The numbers have since declined, although public health officials say it's important for residents to continue following social distancing safety guidelines.

The state said 475 people were being treated for COVID-19 in Nebraska hospitals on Sunday, up slightly from the previous day but down from 517 at the start of January. The number of hospitalizations is less than half of the November peak, but it remains more than double where it was at the start of October.

Nebraska reported 406 confirmed new virus cases Sunday to give the state 176,026 in total. That is significantly below the average of 1,051.14 new cases per day the state has been reporting over the past week.

The state reported 1,760 deaths on Sunday after an error in the data was corrected over the weekend. That is 57 higher than it was last Wednesday.

Across the state 3,079 virus vaccines were administered on Saturday. The state has administered just over half of the 141,428 vaccine doses it has received.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson did not have advanced knowledge of robocalls issued by a Republican group of attorneys general urging supporters of President Donald Trump to descend on the U.S. Capitol last week, his office said.

Suzanne Gage, spokeswoman for Peterson's office, said he first became aware of the calls made by the fundraising arm of the Republican Attorneys General Association on Thursday, the Omaha World-Herald&nbsp;<a href="https://omaha.com/news/state-and-regional/govt-and-politics/state-senator-seeks-answers-on-whether-nebraska-ag-had-role-in-urging-capitol-protest/article_12fe4780-5396-11eb-a2c2-b732f2372860.html#tncms-source=login" target="_blank">reported</a>. Peterson is a member of the association.

Peterson did not condone or agree with the robocalls, Gage said.

The comments came in response to questions posed by state Sen. Megan Hunt, of Omaha, who is asking for information about Peterson's membership in the group and whether public funds were used to help pay for the robocalls. Gage said no state funds are used for Peterson's membership in the group.

Alabama's attorney general has&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/election-2020-joe-biden-alabama-elections-electoral-college-eea5696db786e3a453b2268589e089ef" target="_blank">called for an investigation</a>&nbsp;into who may have authorized the Rule of Law Defense Fund - the Republican Attorneys General Association - to promote the pro-Trump rally in Washington on Wednesday that preceded a deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Peterson was among several Republican attorneys general who supported a lawsuit filed by the Texas attorney general to overturn the presidential election results in four battleground states in hopes of making Trump the winner. The U.S. Supreme Court dismissed the lawsuit.

Nebraska AG's role in DC Trump rally robocalls questioned

At approximately 7:03 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9 the Alliance Police Department responded to the 1500 block of Toluca Ave. regarding a juvenile male with a gunshot wound. 

&nbsp;APD said it appears to have been an accidental, self-inflicted shooting from recounts of numerous witnesses at the scene.&nbsp;

&nbsp;“The Alliance Police Department and the community as a whole are deeply saddened at this tragedy," said Philip Lukens, Alliance Police Chief. "Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the family and the children of our community as they endure the days to come. Our officers have coordinated with the schools, the Crisis Response Team and the Native Futures Leader to provide support across the community.”

The case remains under investigation at this time.

The Commission allocated $1.5 million from the Nebraska Universal Services Fund (NUSF) for the Nebraska Telehealth program for fiscal year 2021. Applicants will be required to demonstrate participation in the federal Healthcare Connect Fund (HCF) in order to be eligible for state NUSF Telehealth program support.

The application window runs through April 15.
