Doris Wells, age 93 of North Platte, Nebraska was born to Howard and Mabel Beavins in Lewellen, Nebraska on January 10, 1929. She was “the middle of three” having arrived just minutes after her twin sister Dorothy and preceding her sister Fern by a few years. The family lived on a farm and moved to town during her teen years. She graduated from Lewellen Rural High School in 1947 and proceeded on to Kearney State Teachers College. She was a member of Sigma Theta Phi and taught in a rural school house near Lewellen.

Doris later married M. Don Wells, a classmate from Lewellen on December 18, 1949 and they had two children, Bryce and Stacy. The couple lived in several towns moving with Don’s career including Willard, Colorado, Norton, Kansas, Columbus and Omaha Nebraska, before arriving in North Platte in 1977. Together they enjoyed square dancing, the Rock and Roll Dance Group, boating, golfing, and dining out with friends.

Doris was involved in a broad community with many diverse activities. She was passionate about her role with Woman’s Town Hall (not sure if this is the proper name) and served as a board member for many years. She much enjoyed participating in the selection of the speakers as well as the engaging with them and she got a particular “kick” out of introducing them to the crowd. She remained active in PEO, two bridge groups, a Bible study, a Saturday “Wendy’s Lunch” group, a Sunday after church breakfast group, and looked forward with much anticipation a a Friday morning coffee club that came to her home. She loved to make it special with her son by always reporting on the opinion of the ladies about the most recent news stories. She has remained active in the Presbyterian church and her faith was an important cornerstone in her life.

Doris was known for a quick wit, charming behavior, sense of humor (occasionally irreverent) dedication to family, friends, and service. She will also be remembered by her love of retail therapy (Chico’s at the top of the list) and chocolate. And of course, most of all, by her deep love for her family and abundance of friends.

Doris is preceded by her parents, her husband, Don, and sister, Dorothy.

She is survived by her sister Fern Burdick of Richland Missouri, her son Bryce (Vicki) of Omaha, Nebraska, daughter Stacy, Wichita, Kansas, grandchildren Brian (Emily) Wells of Rye, New York, Lauren Wells, of Kansas City, Chris (Rose) Wells of Port Angeles, Washington, Adam (Madi) Biethman, Norfolk, Virginia, Elyse (Seth) Purcell, Fayettville, Arkansas, Sydney Biethman Edwardsville, Illinois. She had five great grandchildren, Gray, Kit, and&nbsp;Ford Wells in Rye New York, and Arthur and Andrew Purcell in Fayetteville Arkansas.

Marion E. Keith, age 93, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away peacefully on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Azria Centennial Park in North Platte.

Marion was born on January 20, 1929 in McCook, Nebraska the daughter of Francis N. and Marion I. (Kling) Weiland. She grew up in McCook and graduated from McCook High School and Junior College.

She married Elmer Lee “Hank” Keith in 1951 in McCook and soon after the family moved to North Platte. Together they had five children, sons, Mike, Allen, Larry, and Doug, and a daughter, Kathy. She worked for a short time at McDonald State Bank in the early 1950’s but spent most of her career with the North Platte Telegraph as a bookkeeper having retired with over 30 years of service. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and participated in several card playing groups. She also enjoyed participating in sewing and quilting groups, as well as crafts and gardening. She was a communicant of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in North Platte. She was a member and enjoyed volunteering with the Eagles, American Legion Auxiliary, Lincoln County Extension, and the RSVP group.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Hank on February 14, 1982; sons, Mike, Allen, and Larry Keith; daughter, Kathy Shimmin; brothers, Francis and Joe Weiland.

Left to celebrate her memory are her son, Doug (Sharon) Keith of Brady, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Mary Keith of Omaha, Nebraska; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in North Platte with the Rev. Joe Kadaprayil as celebrant. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska.

Abby&nbsp;Foster, age 60, of North Platte, passed away at Great Plains Health on December 28, 2022.

Abby was born to John and Dorothy Foster on August 28, 1962, at North Platte where she grew up. Following her school years she moved to Harrison, AR, and married Ken Bliss. They started a family and later divorced.

Abby worked in various jobs in the Midwest before returning to North Platte in 1998. Here she worked as a driver for Armadillo then did custodian work at Mid-Plains Community College and the Rec Center and later worked for the City Parks Department.

Abby enjoyed riding her motorcycle (a hobby she took up after her divorce) and she loved her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dorothy Foster; brothers, John Foster, Jr., Kent Foster, Joel Foster, Steven Kelsey and Gerald Kelsey; and sister-in-law, Brenda Foster.

Survivors include her special friend, Mike Adamson of North Platte; children, David (Taesha) Bliss, Michelle (Herbie) Gipson, Jessica (Robert) Bullington and Teresa Bliss, all of Harrison, AR; grandchildren, Lewis, Matthew, Sydney, Jasmine and Kendra; sisters, Mary (Don) Goosey of North Platte and Anne (Paul) McQueen of Olny, TX; brothers, Mark Foster of Lincoln, Robert (Loni) Kelsey and Tom (Meri) Kelsey of North Platte, and Jack (Susan) Kelsey of Little Rock, AR; her nieces and nephews including Sara Foster and Nathan Foster; as well as many extended family members.

Harold “Ike” Haney age 73 of Oconto, NE passed away December 27, 2022, at the CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, NE.

“Glad you got to see me,” was one of many of Harold Haney’s favorite sayings. Harold, but most friends called him by his middle name “Ike”, was born in North Platte, NE on December 18, 1949, to Roy and Florence (Fox) Haney. He was brought home to their ranch south of Mullen and grew up a strong and talented cowboy. He graduated High School in 1968, then received an Aksarben Scholarship and went to the University of Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, graduating in 1970. Ike married the love of his life Tresa Ann Applegarth in May of 1969.

The couple moved to Oconto in 1974 and raised their four children together on their ranch North of town. His children have many happy memories like when Dad would saddle up a horse and tie a rope to a sled or shovel, and take the kids sledding, or when he’d teach them to drive in the pastures around their home. He had many favorite sayings, such as “Let er Rip Tater Chip”, and “Buck Up Buttercup”. Whenever he was asked how he was, he’d say he was “Finer than a Frog’s Hair,” especially doing the things he enjoyed the most. He loved training his horses, spoiling the grandkids, roping, cracking jokes, drinking coffee, giving his nurses a bad time, and spending time with Tresa. When it was “Too Windy to throw Rocks”, as he would say, he enjoyed watching westerns and rodeo on TV.

After many health complications, Harold went to his eternal rest on December 27, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Florence Haney and brother-in-law Gaylord Porath.

Ike is survived by his wife of 53 years Tresa of Oconto, son Joseph (Carolyn) of Kearney, grandchildren: Ana, Claire, &amp; Georgia, daughter Christine of Dwight, NE, grandchildren: Jessie &amp; Matt, son Thomas (Maci) of Oconto, grandchildren: Tate &amp; Toni, and daughter Michelle (Curtis) of Valparaiso, grandchildren: Aiden, Colin, Ethan, Elizabeth, &amp; Adalynn, and Ike’s sister Bonnie Porath.

The world is poorer for losing such a fun-loving and kind soul. Ike will be greatly missed by all family and friends.

David Patrick Harvill, 58 of Cozad, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on December 27, 2022. David was born March 11, 1964 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Larry and Gertrud (Gericke) Harvill. The family moved to Omaha, Nebraska when David was two months old. There he attended Jefferson Elementary, Willa Cather Elementary and Millard South Junior High. At age 15, the family moved to Cozad where he attended Cozad Junior and Senior High and graduated with the class of 1982. He then attended Southeast Community College in Milford, Nebraska and studied auto mechanics. David moved back to Cozad to be closer to his family following his studies. He worked at Cozad Alfalfa as a mill operator for several years; the majority of his career, he worked at Nebraska Plastics as an operator and quality control technician. He also worked at Orthman Manufacturing in Lexington. David had a private used car lot in Cozad where he worked as a mechanic and purchased used vehicles that he repaired and sold. Later in life he worked at Walmart in Lexington as maintenance and at Cozad Pizza Hut at the time of his passing. He was united in marriage to Ruth Dewitt on August 31, 1990 in Cozad. They had two daughters, Rebeccah “Beccah” and Katelyn “Katie”. David loved the Huskers, working on any car, fishing, camping, Star Trek, John Wayne and the Minnesota Vikings. David was a member of Cozad United Methodist Church, Golden Rod Classic Car Club in Cozad and he was a past Special Olympics Coach. He enjoyed spending time with his family and going on trips. He most enjoyed meeting new people and no one remained a stranger very long. David loved his family more than anything else in the world. David Patrick Harvill (1964-2022)

Zilphia J. (Cook) Branigan was born May 5 1947, to Robert and Betty Cook in Lincoln County, NE, and passed away December 8, 2022.

Zilphia was married to John D. "Jack" Branigan on August 17, 1966. They were married for 56 years and made their homes in California, Colorado and Nebraska. Zilphia was an avid gardener, talented quilter, and artistic beyond measure.&nbsp;

She was proceeded in death by beloved son, Robert "Bob/Rob" Branigan; brother, Clark "Butch" Cook; half-brother, John "Jesse" James; her parents and grandparents.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband, Jack; daughter, Kelly; daughter-in-law, Denise; grandchildren, Devin, Dante, Quinn, Dillon, Dakota and Reegan; her siblings, Marsha Sybert (Charlie), Curt Cook (Connie); sister-in-law, Clara Cook; and other family.

Zilphia Branigan (1947-2022)

Clarence “Larry” Karl Swanson, long time farmer and rancher of Red Willow, Frontier and Hitchcock County, passed away at his home on December 26, 2022, at the age of 86. The loving husband and father of four children was born to parents Frederick Clarence and Ruth Lillian (Bauer) Swanson in McCook, Nebraska on July 29, 1936.

He received his primary education in a rural school in Frontier County. He graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1953. Larry attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for 2 years, then he entered the United States Army on September 20, 1955, where he made lifelong friends. Upon his discharge in October 1957, his love for the land took him back to the family farm. On December 27, 1959, in Orafino, NE he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Donna A. Nickerson. This union was blessed with four children: Debra, Christi, Melanie, and Jon. He was a member of several farm and civic organizations, serving 20 years on the H&amp;RW Irrigation board. He was an active member of the Memorial United Methodist Church. He enjoyed motorhome traveling, spending winters in Arizona and Hawaii, family vacations in the mountains, and checking out local coffee shops to stay current with daily happenings in the community.&nbsp; Larry was always on the lookout for a bargain at garage sales.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Irma Della; great grandson, Isiah Cappel; sister, Fredonna Ruppert; brother-in-law, Dale Ruppert; nephew, Daryl Ruppert. Clarence "Larry" K. Swanson (1936-2022)

Jeanne Kay (Frates) McNeff age 79, of Brule, NE, passed away December 21, 2022, following a brief illness of pneumonia. Her family was at her bedside. She had been visiting her daughter and family in York, NE, and had spent a week doing many of the things she loved, especially playing multiple games of cards (and winning), scrabble, Yahtzee, gambling at her favorite casinos, spending time with her family and keeping us entertained. Jeanne was born on May 29, 1943, to Norman "Tater" and Pauline (Mueller) Frates and shared this birthday with her fraternal twin Joanne. She attended Brule Public Schools, where she made plenty of memories and shared several stories of mischief. Jeanne loved growing up on the farm, enjoying the outdoors as much as possible, and told many stories of mischief and adventure from driving the field trucks at WAY too young of an age, swimming in the "ditch," terrorizing her sisters, and dragging home many pets including a skunk and a raccoon! She attended one year of college in Kearney, NE, where she kept the dorm mother on her toes and made many friends. She married her high school sweetheart, Bruce McNeff, on June 23, 1963, and enjoyed just under 54 years of marriage, filled with many joys and hardships, always teaching us that even though they were seasonal opposites, they would work together to take care of each other and their family. They were blessed with four children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. All of whom she was extremely supportive of and proud. Jeanne spent her life collecting many skills, jobs, and friends of various walks of life. She was, first and foremost, a fierce mother, dedicated farm wife, and strong supporter of all. She spent many years working for the Farm Service agency, measuring fields, climbing grain bins, and testing corn and wheat. She then worked for many years at Indian Hills Manor in different roles as medication aide/laundry and Director of Environmental Services. If there was a need, Jeanne would be called, and she would show up for anyone. Jeanne enjoyed several activities such as bowling, camping, canoeing (even at flood stage in the dark), sailing (which she decided she wanted to learn one day, so she bought a sailboat and taught herself), volunteered on the voting board right up to this year, volunteered for the EMS, taught years of CPR and first aid, taught Girl Scouts how to camp, canoe and survive (believe me, she came up with many obstacles for us to endure), regaled us with many stories of EMT shenanigans, fostered her daughters and granddaughters love for healthcare and emergency/trauma work, assisted with calf 4H, volunteered and worked for the wrestling community and drove car loads of young wrestlers all over the US for tournaments, supported all of her children in their many activities, was a quilter and clothing maker, learned to brew Kahlua and wine, was a spectacular cook, loved playing cards with family, friends and in her community card groups, and showed up for anyone who called in need. I am sure I am missing a thing or two! A friend recently said, "if you weren't having a good time when Jeanne was around, you weren't trying very hard." She taught us to be strong, be present and be your true self. Work hard, and enjoy where you are---it makes it easier. Jeanne had a strong personality, an infectious laugh, a heart of gold, and a sharp wit. She was a great wife, an amazing mom and grandmother, and a terrific friend. She was very loved. She will be missed. Jeanne had very strong thoughts on death, and often said, "when it's your time, it's your time...there is a time for everything". She had strict instructions to not allow us to stand around and cry, but to celebrate her life as she lived it....out loud and in Jeanne style. &nbsp; Rosemary M. Stoker, 88, of Grant, passed away on December 26, 2022, at Regent Park Nursing Home in Holyoke, Colorado. Rosemary was born March 12, 1934, at McCook, Nebraska, to Cecil R and LaVeda (Hill) Hayden. She graduated from Alda High School with a class of 1944 and subsequently earned her teaching certificate at Kearney State College. Rosemary married James McChesney, and their union was blessed with two children: Jim and Mary Melody. She taught school in and around the Ogallala area for nearly 30 years. Rosemary eventually moved to Utah, where she met Jack Stoker. The two were ultimately married and split their time between Utah and Nebraska. They always enjoyed spending time with their families. Rosemary loved flowers and kept beautiful flower gardens over the years. She also had a flair for painting. Rosemary was known to spoil her grandchildren and did so with food; dessert was always served first at grandma's house. She was also known to drop off the occasional pet for her grandchildren, from goats and pigs to dogs. Rosemary was undeniably spirited and will be remembered with smiles by her family for many years to come. Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; sisters, Gloria, Sandy, and Jackie. Rosemary M. Stoker (1934-2022)

&nbsp; GERTIE JO LEWIS, 95, of Holyoke, CO, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2022, at her home. Gertie was born December 31, 1926, in Daykin, NE, to Emil H. and Elnora T. (Krueger) Fisbeck. The family moved from Nebraska to a farm southwest of Holyoke, CO, when Gertie was six weeks old. In 1930, then moved to Paoli, CO, where her family owned a filling station. She attended grade school there before graduating from Haxtun High School with the class of 1944. After graduation, Gertie had various employment in Holyoke and Paoli, doing clerical work with the Phillips County Clerk and Recorder, REA, Phillips County ASCS office, Paoli Co-op Elevator, and Holyoke Grade School. On October 10, 1948, Gertie was married to E. Pryor Lewis. They resided on the family farm until 1965, when he became an agent for National Farmers Union Insurance Co., moving them to Monte Vista, Denver, and then Fort Collins. After retiring, they moved back to Holyoke in 1991. Gertie was a long-time member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke. Gertie was preceded in death by her husband, E. Pryor Lewis; parents, Emil and Elnora Fisbeck; brothers, Billy Ray Fisbeck, Herbert Fisbeck, and Leo Fisbeck; sisters, Darlene Vorce, Lorena Fisbeck, and Doris Fisbeck; sister-in-laws, Barbara Fisbeck, Elsie Fisbeck, and Charlotte Thompson; brother-in-laws, Gene Vorce and Paul Thompson. She attended grade school there before graduating from Haxtun High School with the class of 1944. After graduation, Gertie had various employment in Holyoke and Paoli, doing clerical work with the Phillips County Clerk and Recorder, REA, Phillips County ASCS office, Paoli Co-op Elevator, and Holyoke Grade School. On October 10, 1948, Gertie was married to E. Pryor Lewis. They resided on the family farm until 1965, when he became an agent for National Farmers Union Insurance Co., moving them to Monte Vista, Denver, and then Fort Collins. After retiring, they moved back to Holyoke in 1991. Gertie was a long-time member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke. Gertie was preceded in death by her husband, E. Pryor Lewis; parents, Emil and Elnora Fisbeck; brothers, Billy Ray Fisbeck, Herbert Fisbeck, and Leo Fisbeck; sisters, Darlene Vorce, Lorena Fisbeck, and Doris Fisbeck; sister-in-laws, Barbara Fisbeck, Elsie Fisbeck, and Charlotte Thompson; brother-in-laws, Gene Vorce and Paul Thompson. She is survived by a brother, Donald Fisbeck of Fort Collins, sister-in-law, Vicki Fisbeck of Fort Collins; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Breydon “Scott” Robirds, 65, of North Platte, passed away December 25, 2022 at Great Plains Health.&nbsp; He was born June 24, 1957 to Edward and Sharon (Farrell) Robirds in Las Cruces, NM.

Scott graduated high school in Savannah, IL with the class of 1975.&nbsp; He moved back to Nebraska where he worked for Municipal Light and Water.&nbsp; In 1990, he began a hog farm north of North Platte and then went to work for Shaben Sanitation.&nbsp; Most recently he had been working for Ag Valley.&nbsp; He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, cutting firewood, water sports, being by himself in nature, and was constantly working.&nbsp;

Norma Jeanne Cole, age 101, of Culbertson, NE, passed away at the El Dorado Manor in Trenton, NE, on December 19, 2022.&nbsp; She was born in rural Hitchcock County on October 25, 1921, to Eugene and Florence (Houser) Walters.&nbsp; Norma attended and graduated from Trenton High School taking classes for Normal Training.&nbsp; She taught at a rural school south of Trenton.

On December 19, 1941, she was united in marriage to Orlan C. Cole in Trenton. He preceded her in death on February 19, 2008.&nbsp; The couple made their home in Trenton from 1946 until 1949 when they moved to Minatare, NE.&nbsp; They ran dairies in Minatare, Trenton, and Benkelman. Norma was involved with all the aspects of the operation, from milking several times a day to managing the office. &nbsp;The couple returned to the family farm in Hitchcock County in 1958.

Norma loved to bake dinner rolls, beef and noodles for family get togethers. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and canning her vegetables.&nbsp; Norma was an avid reader.&nbsp; She was a member of the New Life Fellowship Church of Culbertson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Florence; husband, Orlan Cole; three grandsons, infant, Michael Casey, Michael Allen; seven siblings: Marjorie Walters, Robert (Irene) Walters, Abby (Don) Dilyard, Myrna (Charles) Morrison, Alma Lou (Don) Moffett, Eunice (Clarence) Evans, Ellen (John) O’Leary; son-in-law, Albert Channel.

Norma was survived by her three daughters, Marge and husband, Cermit Brown of Culbertson; Joyce Channel of Fairmont, NE; Linda and husband, David Qualls of Choctaw, OK; two sons, Richard and wife, Anita Cole of Pueblo, CO; Bill and wife, Kimberly Cole of Trenton; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

&nbsp; Tyson William Bardsley was born March 13, 1981, to Bill and Kay (Brogan) Bardsley. Tyson graduated from Wauneta-Palisade High School in 2000. He then attended Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland, Kansas. He graduated in 2002 with a degree in Engineering Technology. After graduation he moved to Lakewood, Colorado and worked at Burns and McDonnell engineering firm. Tyson married Sara Todd on September 4, 2004, they moved back to Wauneta and Tyson started working at Miller and Associates Consulting Engineers in McCook, NE. Tyson and Sara welcomed their first daughter, Halle Marie into the world on November 25, 2004 and their second child, Kenzie Mae on December 16, 2008. Tyson was a member of the Wauneta Volunteer Fire Department and active in the community. He loved music, golf, hunting, his dog Raven and being with family and friends. He was very athletic and loved sports and watching his daughters as they grew to love sports too. His daughters were the loves of his life. In 2019, Tyson started working at Oak Creek Engineering in Kearney, NE. He had a satellite office in Wauneta, until he suffered from a stroke in January 2021. He never gave up trying to recover from his stroke, while still working part-time at home and going to his daughter’s sporting events. Tyson passed away Thursday morning, December 22, 2022, in Wauneta, Nebraska. He was 41 years of age. Van worked on the family ranch north of Lewellen the majority of his life, at Vics Supper Club as bartender and bouncer, and day worked at Oshkosh Feedyard and Lewellen Elevator.&nbsp; For the last 23 years, he was a rural carrier for the USPS.

He was an avid sports fan from high school, colligate, to pro sports.&nbsp;&nbsp; He also enjoyed reading, spending time with his family, and attending his grandkids’ activities.

Van is survived by his wife, Debbie of 52 years; children, Chris (Susan) Delatour of Big Springs, NE,&nbsp; Colby (Tammy) Delatour of Tryon, NE, Joleen (Matt Merkt) of Oshkosh; 8 grandsons, 1 great-grandson and expecting a great-grandson in March; sister, Jackie Delatour of Harrison, NE; father-in-law, Ted Fiesterman of Lewellen; faithful companion, Duke; along with a host of nephews, nieces, in-laws, cousins, and friends.

Rodney LaVerne “Rod” Snodgrass, 82, of North Platte, passed away December 25, 2022 at Linden Court.&nbsp; He was born September 24, 1940 to Leslie “Jake” and Lena (Shoemaker) Snodgrass in Omaha.

Rod was raised at Chadron State Park where his dad was superintendent.&nbsp;&nbsp; He graduated from Chadron Prep in 1958 where he loved playing basketball.&nbsp; Rod married Virginia Maiefski on September 16, 1961 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Hemmingford.&nbsp; The couple made their home in Chadron then moved to Grand Island, where Rod worked for the state as a roads inspector.&nbsp; They moved to Casper, Wyoming where Rod worked for the State Roads.&nbsp; In 1968, they couple moved to North Platte where Rod worked at the Weigh Station and later went to work over the road trucking.&nbsp;

Rod enjoyed basketball and coaching basketball.&nbsp; He loved to play his guitar and sing.&nbsp; He enjoyed working on cars, hunting, fishing, camping, and following his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.&nbsp; Rod loved and worried about his grandchildren.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Survivors include wife, Virginia of North Platte; children, Robyn (Rudy) Perez of North Platte, Rhonda (John) May of North Platte, Jason Snodgrass of North Platte; grandchildren, Jacqueline Perez, Carissa Perez, Ashley May, Shelby Hawk; great grandchild, Avery May; nephews, Rance Beem, Troy Beem, Paul Beem; best friend since high school, Glen Grey.

Velma Florence (Schulz) Fox, age 89, of North Platte, formerly of Bertrand, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Linden Court in North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp; Velma was born July 23, 1933 to George and Lillian (Cunningham) Schulz in Litchfield, Nebraska.&nbsp; Velma grew up and graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1952.

She met Dale J. Fox in Kearney, NE on a blind date, and the two of them eloped to North Platte and were married on September 27, 1957. The two of them welcomed their daughter, to much surprise, after being married 11 years, Linda Marie on August 26, 1968.&nbsp; While living in Kearney, Velma worked as a seamstress at Bear Brand Hosiery Co. They moved to Bertrand in 1963 where she would run the scale at the elevator in Smithfield with her husband, Dale. From dressing chickens, laying out irrigation pipes, or being with the cow and calf operation she embraced the farm life.&nbsp; After the move to Bertrand, Velma was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Smithfield, Nebraska. She served in many positions of the Altar Society &amp; helping teach Catechism classes. She was a charter member of the building commitee at the Bertrand Community Center. Velma loved farming and was a devoted mom to her daughter, Linda.&nbsp;

In 2015, she moved to Sutherland to be closer to Linda and her beloved grandboys, Dalton and Landon. She moved into Linden Court in 2019 where she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. She &amp; Dale enjoyed dancing and attending country concerts &amp; stock car races around the state. Her “Calico” friends (cats) were many and such great companions through many years. And she always had time to enjoy a red beer with those dear “Fox/Hanson” family members. She loved to sew, embroider, and knit. If you were one of the lucky ones, you have a special remembrance to keep you warm. She had a zest for life, being a mom, and loved being “Fox Grandma” to the boys.&nbsp;

Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, and her brothers; George “Arthur,” James, and Virgil Schulz. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Doug) Drews, of Paxton, NE; grandsons, Dalton, of North Platte, and Landon, of Paxton; godchildren, Sharlyn Bogner, of Kearney; Chuck Hanson, of Lincoln, NE; a sister; Donna (Bob) Henry; and brother, Donnie Schulz, all of Kearney; and special friends; Kirk, Kaylea, Avery, Seaver, and Gentri Goldfish, of Bertrand. There will be no visitation. The family has chosen cremation.

Velma F. Fox (1933-2022)

Nichollette Kay 'Nikki' Coleman Meyer, of North Platte, unexpectedly passed away at her home on December 26, 2022, at the age of 73. Nikki, the daughter of Dewain Robert Jr. and Shirley Jeanne (George) Coleman, was born November 25th during the blizzard of 1949. The story of her birth was a rather grand one of how they battled snow to get to the hospital.&nbsp; Nikki was the second oldest of 8 children. She grew up in North Platte until the 7th grade when the family moved to Thorton, CO. Nikki graduated from Thorton High School in 1968. On December 26, 1970 , Nikki married the One and Only Love of her life, Ronald O. Meyer, at the Berean Church in North Platte. Their love story was special, they had been friends since she was 9 and he was 12.&nbsp; Nikki was so proud to be his bride. They made their first home in Thorton where Nikki worked retail at Sears and Ron was a truck driver. He hired on with the UPRR and they moved back to North Platte in 1973.&nbsp; Their love story blessed them with two daughters: Rebecca Jeanne in 1975 and Jennifer Rae in 1977.&nbsp; Nikki was a full-time momma and homemaker for the most part, as she and Ron raised their family.&nbsp; Over the years she did have a few jobs outside the home, including Gibson's, North Platte Public Schools as a para, managing a car wash and secretarial jobs.&nbsp; She took great pride in serving her church family over the years, coordinating and planning many funeral dinners at the North Platte Berean Church. Nikki had a great love for Jesus, her husband, her daughters, grandchildren and those precious great-grandkids!&nbsp; She loved to read her Bible and go for long car rides while holding hands with her sweetheart and reminiscing about their past. She also loved playing cards, especially when she could "beat the boys". Nikki will be forever treasured in all our hearts, knowing she is home in Glory now. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewain and Shirley Coleman; two infant siblings; and her brother-in-law, Marty Burk. Blanca Delia Meraz de Parra(63), of Ogallala, NE found eternal rest on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Blanca was born on January 1, 1959 in Teporachi, Chihuahua, Mexico to Leopoldo Meraz Escarcega and Reynalda Martinez de Meraz.&nbsp; She was the oldest of 8 kids.&nbsp;

She married her first love Roman Parra Chavez on February 11, 1979. They quickly began to grow their family, having four children: Selene, Edgar Lenin, Lesly and Betsy Larissa.&nbsp;

They lived in many places throughout their life but eventually settled in Ogallala where they opened their business, Mi Ranchito Restaurant in 2003.&nbsp; She enjoyed cooking, learning new recipes and baking with her children, gardening, and listening to music. She loved spending time with her 6 grandchildren: Uriel, Kairo, Alison, Linken, Max, &amp; Mia.&nbsp; She especially enjoyed long phone conversations with all her loved ones. She loved traveling, especially when her family joined her.&nbsp; &nbsp;She had recently found her happy place in El Paso, TX, where she hoped to live the rest of her life.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband Roman Parra Chavez, Daughter Selene Parra(Sergio), Son Edgar Lenin Parra (Veronica), Daughter Lesly Parra (Isaiah), and Daughter Betsy Larissa Parra.&nbsp; Her grandchildren, Uriel Lozano (19), Kairo Trujillo (11), Alison Lozano (10), Linken Trujillo (6), Max Parra (3), Mia Trujillo (3 months.)&nbsp; &nbsp;Her loving mother, Reynalda Martinez de Meraz. Blanca D. Meraz de Parra (1959-2022)

Dennis John VanOverbeke, of Gothenburg, NE died on December 22, 2022 at the age of 80 at Kearney Regional Hospital in Kearney, NE.

He was born and raised on the family farm in Marshall, Minnesota. He graduated from a private Catholic School in Marshall, continued on with a college degree at Mankato State College, graduating in 1964. His teaching career began in Owatonna, Minnesota. After four years there, he went to the University of Wyoming in Laramie. While obtaining a Master of Arts degree in French, he was a teaching assistant.

In 1969 he and his family moved to Gothenburg, Nebraska, where he taught until 2004. He taught a number of subjects including French; Spanish; English; American History; World History; Modern Problems; U.S. Government; and Psychology. After retiring from teaching in 2004, he continued to substitute teach in the Gothenburg School System, and dedicated more than 50 years to a career as a full-time and substitute teacher. He then worked assisting with funerals for Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapels and Monuments in Gothenburg.

In 1966 Dennis married Carol (Miller) and to this union three sons were born.&nbsp; He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on many boards there. He enjoyed playing cards (especially with all the Larry Peterson Family), gardening and lawn work, and reading, and traveling throughout the United States and abroad. He was involved with the Gothenburg Library Board and the Library Foundation. Dennis was a member of the Community Playhouse for several years. In 1996 he and his wife, Carol, received the Nebraska Aksarben Good Neighbor Award for starting and sponsoring a cancer support group.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Jon (Jill), Marc (John Smagner), and Eric; and two grandchildren, Thomas Alexander and Abbygail Elizabeth. He is also survived by two sisters, Jean VanKeulen, Pat (David) Zwach, and many nieces and nephews. Survivors also include the special family of Larry and Carolyn Peterson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Martha (DeVos) VanOverbeke; his in-laws, Albert and Lucille (Paul) Miller; brother-in-law Dick VanKeulen; and brother- and sister-in-law Greg and Linda Miller; and special family friends, Larry and Carolyn Peterson.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Wednesday, December 28, 2022, 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Thursday, December 29, 2022 at 10:30 am with Pastor Grace Gichuru officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He graduated from a private Catholic School in Marshall, continued on with a college degree at Mankato State College, graduating in 1964. His teaching career began in Owatonna, Minnesota. After four years there, he went to the University of Wyoming in Laramie. While obtaining a Master of Arts degree in French, he was a teaching assistant.In 1969 he and his family moved to Gothenburg, Nebraska, where he taught until 2004. Dennis VanOverbeke (1942-2022)

Ronald Lee Werkmeister, 80, of Curtis, passed away on December 22, 2022, in Lincoln, NE.

Ronnie was born on September 2nd, 1942 in Maywood, NE to Albert and Mildred (Kugler) Werkmeister. He attended grade school at Valley in Hayes County; he graduated High School in Maywood with the class of 1960. Ronnie met Linda in High School and they were married May 10th, 1964. They had two children: Vickie and Bryan.

After High School, Ronnie went on to work at Valley Coop, the work crew that built the Red Willow Dam, afterwards Ronnie and his friend Joe Banzhaf started a gravel hauling company, which eventually lead Ronnie into working for the State Department of Roads until health complications. Shortly after the loss of his leg, a group of Curtis Business Leaders came to Ronnie and Linda’s home and asked him to run for Frontier County Judge. He was elected Nov. 5 th, 1968 and took office in Jan. of 1969, at the age of 26, being the youngest person to hold the position of Judge in Nebraska.

Ronnie proudly served in the position of Judge and Clerk Magistrate for 52 years until retiring in 2020. Ronnie retired as the last elected county Judge in the state. Ronnie was a dedicated member of the Methodist Church, where he was a member of the church choir and often performed solos for the Easter Pageant. Ronnie had a well known love for Polka music and watched Molly B every Saturday night at 9pm.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother in law John Ralston, sister in law Mary Littell, sister in law and brother in law Tiny and Bill Ruby. He is survived by his wife, Linda Werkmeister of Curtis; daughter, Vickie (James) Harpst of Lincoln, NE; son, Bryan (Sarah Martin) Werkmeister of North Platte, NE; grandchildren, Marika (Clint) Sedlacek, Kylie (Patrick) Skwara, Reilly Martin, Nevaeh Martin; great-grandchildren, Carter and Brody Sedlacek, and great grandson Skwara due in April 2023, sister, Janie Ralston of Maywood, and brother, Troy (Lisa) Werkmeister of Maywood..

Dorothy Lucille Mason, 108, passed away December 20, 2022, at Seneca Sunrise Assisted Living Facility in Ravenna, NE.&nbsp; She was born to Ernest and Nora (Parkhurst) Ummel on September 11, 1914, at the hospital in Mason City, NE.&nbsp; She thought, at her advanced age, that it was remarkable to have been born in a small-town hospital during a time when so many were born at home.&nbsp; Dorothy graduated in 1932 from Mason City High School, and later attended Nebraska Teacher’s College in Kearney, NE, where she earned a teacher certification degree.&nbsp; She started teaching in a one-room school in Cumro, NE, next took positions at Happy Hollow Districts near Berwyn and Mason City, and later taught fifth and sixth grades for Mason City Public School, totaling nine years of teaching.&nbsp;

Dorothy married Lauren Mason December 25, 1937, at her parents’ home near Mason City, a convenient time for family and friends to gather for a celebration.&nbsp; During their first 18 years together, they farmed, and their son Charles (Chuck) was born in 1945.&nbsp; In 1955, the family moved into Mason City, where they had a service station for many years.&nbsp; They enjoyed 62 years together until Lauren’s death in 1998.&nbsp; In addition to her bookkeeping and management work at the gas station, Dorothy took up a new career of cooking school lunches—you guessed it—at Mason City Public Schools.&nbsp; For more than two decades, her delicious entrees and baked desserts fed students from kindergarten through eighth grade, and she retired in her mid-seventies, only because she’d broken her arm.&nbsp;

Dorothy’s level of energy and enthusiasm were admired by many.&nbsp; She was active in Rebekah Lodge, Mason City annual Homecoming, community organizations, and Mason City First Baptist Church from childhood on.&nbsp; She loved music and was an accomplished pianist, performing at church, school functions and many other events over eight decades.&nbsp;&nbsp; Dorothy belonged to a variety of card clubs, all of which delighted her.&nbsp; She bowled for decades as long as her health allowed and even held “special” honors with WII Bowling later, when she frequently rolled strikes. At the age of 98, Dorothy decided living alone wasn’t as enjoyable or easy as it had been earlier, so she made the decision to live at Seneca Sunrise Assisted Living Residence in Ravenna where she spent the rest of her earthly days.&nbsp; Here, she was able to adopt a much-loved new family, and decorate the lives of staff and other residents with her charm, wit, talent and fun. Dorothy’s most frequent expression was a huge smile and hearty laugh.&nbsp; She loved cooking, entertaining, having fun, bingo when she won, playing cards, Seneca Sunrise and Mason City.&nbsp; But especially, she loved her Lord and people.&nbsp;&nbsp; Though she will be greatly missed, she leaves a legacy of wonderful memories.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband Lauren, her parents Ernest and Nora Ummel, her brother Clarence (Ick) and sister-in-law Sylvia Ummel. Family left to remember her specialness include her son Charles (Chuck) and daughter-in-law Jackie Mason, grandchildren Bryan Mason and Lindsey (Matt) Ansbach, three great-grandchildren, four step-grandsons, five step-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.&nbsp;

Dorothy L. Mason (1914-2022)

Norine Veryl (Bayne) Stewart, 90, went to be with her Lord on December 25, 2022 in Grand Island, Nebraska where she had been living for the past year at CountryHouse Residence for memory care.

She was born January 14, 1932 to Louis and Bertha (Williams) Bayne in North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp; She was raised in the Sandhills near Stapleton, Nebraska where she graduated high school in 1950. On October 7, 1951, she married the love of her life, Chester A. Stewart.&nbsp; To this union six children were born: Glenn, Dale, Dianne, Carol, Peggy and Rod.&nbsp; Chester and Norine began their life together in Atlanta, Georgia, returning to the family ranch near North Platte following Chester’s discharge from the U.S. Army.&nbsp; In 1968, they moved to McCook, Nebraska where they owned and operated the Chief Motel and Restaurant for many years.&nbsp; After retiring, they returned to North Platte.&nbsp; The greatest priority of their life was to raise their children to have a relationship with Jesus Christ and to be a witness to everyone they met as to the glory of God.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Chester on May 23, 2000; grandson Cody Calvin on January 7, 1993; brothers, Merrill Bayne and Floyd (Gene) Bayne; and sister Gertrude Stewart. Left to celebrate her memory are her children, Glenn (Donelle) Stewart of Almena, Kansas; Dale (Joan) Stewart of McCook, Nebraska; Dianne (Dan) Allen of Greeley, Colorado; Carol (Mike) Schlegel of Culbertson, Nebraska; Peggy (Rod) Calvin of North Platte, Nebraska and Rod (Nitaya) Stewart of Demorest, Georgia; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; Two sisters, Luetta Millheim and Bertha (Elaine) Thomas and lifelong best friend and sister-in-law Donna Keithley along with nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Bruce Lester officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.&nbsp; A light reception will follow the burial in the Carpenter Memorial Chapel reception room.
