Betty Jean Shimmin, 96, of Arnold, NE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Great Plains Health Hospital.

Jean was born on April 12, 1926 in Fort Morgan, CO the daughter of Walter L. and Alice Mae (Pesch) Stevenson.&nbsp; Her parents then moved the family to Sutherland, NE in 1935.&nbsp; She attended country schools through the eighth grade and graduated from high school in North Platte in 1944.&nbsp; She married Roy Allen Shimmin on August 13, 1947 at the Presbyterian Church in North Platte, and together they had six children: Douglas, Connie, Michael, Jerri, Sally, and Scott.&nbsp; The family lived on the Shimmin Ranch north of Tryon for all her married life.&nbsp; Jean was a faithful Christian and attended the Methodist Church in Mullen, Free Methodist Church in Ringgold, and the Baptist Church in Arnold in recent years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Allen; sons, Douglas Allen, Michael Frank, and Scott Joseph, daughter, Jerri Jean, 1 brother and 6 sisters. Those left to celebrate her memory are her daughters, Connie Lynne (Mike) Hernandez of Spring Hill, KS, and Sally Beth (David) Hilderbrant of Arnold; many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Ken Tidyman of Maywood; daughter-in-law, Lori Aldridge of FL; and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at the First Baptist Church, 101 East 7th&nbsp;Ave. in Arnold with Pastor Irv Jennings officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery near Tryon.&nbsp; Visitation with the family present will be on Sunday, January 8th&nbsp;from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.&nbsp;

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the family for future designation.

John Ronald Nutter, 89, of North Platte, NE, passed away at his home on Monday, January 2, 2023.

John was born March 20, 1933 in Gibbon to Harold K. Nutter and Josephine Marie (Scott) Nutter.&nbsp; John grew up and graduated from Gibbon High School.&nbsp; John married Ruby Pauline Loewenstein on October 21, 1951.&nbsp; John enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 with an honorable discharge in 1956. John and Ruby farmed in Gibbon until 1972.&nbsp; After leaving the farm, John and Ruby moved to North Platte. John was employed by the Union Pacific until his retirement. John was a long-time American Legion Member and a Mason for over 50 years.

John is survived by his sons, Gregory (Denise) Nutter and Michael Nutter of North Platte; grandchildren, Dawn (James) Miller, Dustee Renschler, Samantha Nutter, Chance (Cheryl) Nutter and Seth (Elizabeth Knehans) Nutter; eleven great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Gennevieve Robb; one sister-in-law, Betty Loewenstein; and numerous nieces and nephews John was preceded in death by his wife Ruby, his parents, in laws Rupert Loewenstein, Zoe (Loewenstein) Wakefield and Borden Wakefield, brothers and sisters in law Richard and Grace Nutter, Richard and Nancy Bolin, Gordon Robb, Ralph and Hilda Loewenstein, Elbert Loewenstein, and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation was chosen.&nbsp;

John R. Nutter (1933-2023)

Donna Jean Rasmussen, 79, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at the CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska.

She was born on February 19, 1943, in Syracuse, New York, to Arthur Nelsen and Ruby Mrytle (Law) Cole. She resided in New York and was united in marriage to Arnold Richard Sayyeau in 1961. Four children were blessed to this union: Chuck, Dale, Dennis and Bryan. This marriage would later end in divorce. She then met and married the love of her life, Gary Boyd Rasmussen, and they returned to Nebraska and were married on March 3, 1970, in Julesburg, Colorado. Three children were blessed to this union: Samantha, Gary Boyd Jr., and William Earl. In May of 1978, they opened Gary’s Kleen &amp; Shine in Lexington. This was a job she greatly enjoyed, and the entire family was involved. Donna later began working Plum Creek Care Center and Park Avenue Estates before retiring. Donna was a devout listener of KRVN 880 and was a big Paul Harvey fan. She also loved listening to cowboy church music on Sundays and playing cards.

Those left to honor her memory are her children, Chuck (Melanie) Weaver of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Dale (Christy Hatcher) Sayyeau of Shelton, Nebraska, Dennis (Sherrie) Hageman of Overton, Nebraska, Bryan Elafros of Omaha, Nebraska, Gary Boyd Jr. (Pamela) Rasmussen of Foster, Oregon, Willie (Tracie) Rasmussen of Overton, Nebraska; step-children, Deborah (Douglas) Hurley of Phoenix, Arizona, Pamela (Kenny) Patch of Central Square, New York, and Gary L. Thompson of Mesa, Arizona as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Rasmussen Sr., five brothers, Arthur, Douglas, Raymond, David and Jimmy; a sister, Lynda; her daughter, Samantha Rasmussen Rich and infant son, Jonathan.

Donald Leroy Sawyer, age 79, of McCook, NE passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at his home in McCook.

Don was born March 12, 1943 in Tampa, FL to parents Lorence E. and Dorothy (Offner) Sawyer. He was one of three brothers.&nbsp; The family later relocated to McCook where Don graduated from McCook High School with the Class of 1961. Don married Shirley R. (Simants) Sawyer, his best friend Butch Simants' sister, on April 10, 1965. To this union one daughter was born, Carmen.&nbsp; Don worked hard his entire life, including Sidles and a forty year career at the post office. He raised hogs in his spare time and his evenings were spent working the door at Sports and Overtime where he made many friends. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh. He especially enjoyed playing Santa Claus at Christmas time. Don was a member of the APA Pool League, traveling to Vegas on a championship team, a member of the McCook Eagles and a past member of the Elks Club. Along with playing pool, Don enjoyed fishing and bargain hunting at auctions and garage sales. He will be remembered for his love of a good story and telling jokes.&nbsp;

Don was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Gary Sawyer and Rod (Andrea) Sawyer. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-seven years, Shirley Sawyer of McCook; daughter, Carmen (Joe) Bond of McCook; beloved niece, Susan Henry; brothers in law, Butch (Doris) Simants and Sonny (Mary) Simants, all of North Platte, NE; and numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family members.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; David Rex Bridgmon was born in McCook, Nebraska on April 4, 1949 to Donald Dwight and Ruth Ellen (Brandt) Bridgmon.&nbsp; He graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1967.&nbsp; He furthered his education in Denver, Colorado for two years before being drafted into the United States Army on August 26, 1969.&nbsp; David served in Vietnam; at the time of his honorable discharge in 1971, he had attained the rank of Sergeant and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, the Army Commendation Medal, and a Bronze Star Medal.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; David returned to civilian life and lived in San Diego, California where he continued his education and drove a taxi for many years.&nbsp; David called Denver, Colorado home for most of his life where he was employed by United Airlines and worked mostly at Denver International Airport.&nbsp; After his retirement, David returned to McCook where he could be closer to family. &nbsp; &nbsp; David enjoyed watching sports on TV and was a big Nebraska Cornhusker fan.&nbsp; He was active on his computer and was a regular at the McCook YMCA.&nbsp; David enjoyed fishing and spent countless hours at Barnett Park.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Like so many that served in Southeast Asia, David came home a changed man.&nbsp; He never liked to talk about his time in the military, but the emotional scars were visible to those around him.&nbsp; On Thursday morning, January 4, 2023, David passed away at Community Hospital in McCook and is now at peace.&nbsp; He was 73 years of age.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Lynda Bridgmon; and brothers-in-law, Ron Clark and Walter Fortin. &nbsp; &nbsp; Survivors include his sisters, Donna Fortin of Oberlin, Kansas and Diane Clark of McCook; nieces and nephews: Marla (Leland) Kehler of Loveland, Colorado, Melissa (Dan) Nelson of Syracuse, Nebraska, Ryan (Janene) Fortin of Oberlin, Darin (Cari) Callan of Axtell, Nebraska, Derick (Tracy) Callan of Portland, Oregon, and Dan (Carrie) Callan of Kearney, Nebraska; as well as great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Norma Dilley, 90, of Denver, formerly of Oshkosh, passed away Monday, January 2, 2023 in Denver.

Norma Dilley (1932-2023)

&nbsp; Marilyn Jolene (Rousey) Walker, age 92, was called to rest on January 3rd, 2023 at the WEL-Life Assisted Living in Ogallala, NE Marilyn, the only child of Orla (pronounced Or-lay) and Helen (Ruettimann) Rousey was born October 6th, 1930 at Hamlet, NE. She attended grade school in Hamlet and attended high school at Wauneta, NE, graduating with the class of 1948. Marilyn attended and earned a teaching certificate from Kearney State Teachers College, now known as University of Nebraska at Kearney. She taught 3 years at rural schools in Hayes County. On December 23, 1951, she married Frank Priest in the Hamlet Union Church. Four children were born to this union: Eldon Delynn, Gerald Eugene, Jolene Rose and Orla Jean. During these years they moved often with their work of construction. Living in several towns in Nebraska plus the states of Colorado, South Dakota, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Her husband lost his life in their trailer house fire in 1959 at Bogue, KS. Marilyn and children moved back to Hamlet, NE to be near family and friends. Marilyn married L.E. “Oney” Walker, on February 19th, 1965 in the Methodist Church in Culbertson, NE, making their home in Hamlet, NE. In May of 1971, Marilyn took the position at the Hamlet Post Office and served as Postmaster for 25 and ½ years, retiring in 1997. Also during those years, she and Oney owned and operated the “Walker’s Service” in Hamlet for 11 years. Marilyn was a member of the Hamlet Union Church; A Charter and Life Member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary at Palisade, NE; A member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Wauneta, NE. Served on the Meadow Lawn Cemetery Board for nearly 37 years. Marilyn moved to Ogallala, NE in March of 1999 to live closer to her daughter, Orla and family. Preceding her in death: son, Eldon, being 7 weeks shy of his third birthday in March of 1957; daughter, Jolene Heldenbrand in May of 2007; husband, Frank Priest in January of 1959, her father, O.H. Rousey in February of 1968; her mother, Helen Rousey in February of 1991; her husband, L.E. A very dear Aunt, Rosa Ruettimann, in April of 1980 who Marilyn said was her second mother. Plus, many other Aunt’s, Uncle’s and relatives. She attended grade school in Hamlet and attended high school at Wauneta, NE, graduating with the class of 1948. Marilyn attended and earned a teaching certificate from Kearney State Teachers College, now known as University of Nebraska at Kearney. She taught 3 years at rural schools in Hayes County. Marilyn J Walker (1930-2023)

Patricia Ann (Boyle) Grafel, age 92, passed away on January 3, 2023 at the Azria Health Blue Hill Care Center, Blue Hill, NE.&nbsp; Patty was born on February 26, 1930 on the family farm southeast of Trenton, NE to Dan and Esther (Grovert) Boyle. Patty lost her father at the age of 5 and she lived her early life with her mother and sister on the Fred and Cecil (Murtha) Grovert farm and then in their home in Trenton when they moved to town.&nbsp; Patty attended the Trenton Public Schools and graduated with an emphasis on manual training to achieve her life long career as an elementary school teacher.&nbsp; She was also a graduate of McCook College and Kearney State College. During her young life she worked for several area farmers, helping with the chores around the farm, especially milking cows, and also caring for the young children of the families. In high school she was a waitress at the Warrior Café in Trenton. Following her high school graduation, she began teaching in country schools around Stratton and Trenton.&nbsp; She also taught in the Trenton Public School, Culbertson Public School, Saint Patrick’s Catholic School in McCook and finished her teaching career at District 8 School south of McCook. After retirement, she spent many more years substituting in area schools.

Patty was united in marriage to Harry Grafel on August 21, 1951, at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook, NE. They raised 2 sons, Mike and Jim. They enjoyed 45 years together until her husband’s passing.&nbsp; During their life they enjoyed their farming with Harry’s brothers and they also together built a new home in Trenton, NE.&nbsp;

Patty enjoyed many activities in her lifetime.&nbsp; She loved to play cards especially bridge and pitch. She was an avid reader and never went anywhere without a book in her purse.&nbsp; She loved to grow flowers in her garden, especially lilies.&nbsp; She loved the study of history, especially Nebraska, and shared this love with her sons with books and vacations.&nbsp; She enjoyed being a member of several women’s groups in Trenton and was very active in the Altar Society at St James Church in Trenton. She learned from her mom and grandmother how to be an excellent cook and was known for her delicious pies, special chocolate brownies, and fried chicken.&nbsp; She was especially talented in the art of sewing, needle work, crotchet, knitting, embroidery, and especially the many beautiful quilts that she so enjoyed putting together and sharing with her family for special occasions in their lives.

Patty was proceeded in death by her grandparents, in-laws, father, mother, husband, and sister, Dorothy (Boyle) (Frick) Furry. Brothers-in-law: &nbsp;Bud Dack, Leo Crocker, Bill Brown, Ray Grafel, Elmore Grafel, Ted Hoxie, Harlan Grafel, Ken Frick, and Harlan Furry.&nbsp; Sisters- in- law: &nbsp;Norma Grafel, Grace Dack, Gladys Crocker. Refinna Ladean “Betty” Keyes, of Plainville, KS, passed away on 
January 1, 2023, at the Phillips County Retirement Center in 
Phillipsburg, KS, at the age of 75. She was born on February 27, 1947, 
to Levi Bassel and Mary Alice (Reynolds) Hoskins in Enid, OK. She was 
married to Stanley Keyes in 1967. They were blessed with five children: 
James, Jerry, Brenda, Teresa, and Teri.

Betty enjoyed 
crocheting, quilting, sewing, and loved reading novels and playing 
Bingo. She didn’t know a stranger and could sit and talk with anyone.

Betty
 is survived by her children, Jerry Keyes of Plainville, Brenda Henson 
of Gothenberg, NE, Teri Ellenberger of Plainville; brother, Alfred 
Hoskins of Enid, OK; sister, Sylvia Ramage of Enid, OK; four 
grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Mary Alice Hoskins; son, James Henson; and daughter, Teresa Keyes.

William “Bill” James Williams was born August 22, 1933, to Rollie and Gretta (Murray) Williams in Broken Bow, NE. Bill graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1952.

Bill was united in marriage to Bev Fiske in 1953 in Broken Bow, NE. Bill and Bev have three children:&nbsp; Tim, Jo Dee, and Jann.&nbsp;

Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. After military service, he returned home and farmed with his dad. Bill had a yearning to be a pilot and learned to fly from Don Lefler. Jim Ferguson taught him the art of aerial spraying. He worked for Jerry Steggs Flying Service before he and Bev started their own aerial application business, Arrow Aviation, in 1971. Bill was proud to see Arrow Aviation continue under his son and grandson, as both Tim and Casey followed in his footsteps. Bill, Tim, and Casey were honored to be inducted in the 100th&nbsp;Meridian Hall of Aviation Fame for having three generations flying and for fighting fires. Bill was instrumental in fighting grass and property fires by air, saving many homes, buildings, and livestock.

Bill worked as the Fixed Base Operator at the Broken Bow Municipal Airport, a commercial pilot, and a Flight Instructor. Many men and women - some still flying today, soloed under Bill and fondly look back with gratitude for his humor, patience, and expertise during all those flight hours. Bill cut off many a shirttail (a signature tradition for those who solo) and pinned them to the wall in the airport.

Bill served as President of the Nebraska Aviation Trade Association and was named Airman of the Year in 1985. He was one of three pilots to pioneer aerial application of coal ash on the frozen Platte River to break up the ice and prevent further flooding. Bill retired from flying in 2003.

Bill was a member of the United Methodist Church, past member of the Elks, Chamber of Commerce and One Box – serving as a Past Chairman.

Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising and tending various domestic birds, and housing Martins. His grandkids and great grandkids were the apples of his eye and Grandpa Bill was always at the table for Easter egg dyeing and carving Jack O’ Lanterns. Bill loved to travel and was known for his favorite part; “Where are we going to eat?”

Bill’s friendliness and sense of humor touched everyone he met. All who knew him would say he was famous for his big grin, quick wit, and love for “kidding” people.

Bill is survived by his wife Bev of Broken Bow; children: Tim (Marlene) Williams of Cozad, Jo Dee (Perry) Adelung of Merriam, KS, and Jann Rouzee of Scottsbluff; seven grandchildren: Casey (Melissa) Williams, Wade (Rachel) Williams, Mitch (Megan) Williams, Jo Ella (Brian) Hoye, Ann Dee (Ben) Tucker, Elizabeth (Joe) Linford, and Cady (Brady) Hubbard; eleven great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jerome Reinert (The Can Man) passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at the senior living choices in Curtis, Nebraska on Monday, December 12, 2022.

Jerome was born February 16, 1967 in Faith, South Dakota.&nbsp; He graduated ESU 16 in North Platte in 1982. He enjoyed gathering cans from local businesses, where he was then nicknames "the can man." Jerome never met a stranger, every person to him was just a friend he hadn't met yet.

Jerome will be missed by mother Anita McMurry of Maywood, Step-Father Robert Wayne McMurry of North Platte, sister Donna Benell, niece Lacie Benell, nephews Jesse Benell all of Maywood and Brett (Molly) Benell of Brady and two grand-nieces, Ashten and Willow Benell as well as other friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Helen Reinert and sister Diane McMurry Cleveland Evans.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Saturday, January 7, 2023, at St. James Catholic Church with lunch reception to follow.

&nbsp; On January 1, 2023, at the age of 79, Donna Jean (Moorhead) Arnett peacefully passed into heaven while comforted by her family at Linden Court in North Platte, NE. She was diagnosed with Parkinson's and Dementia approximately 10 years ago and never let her illnesses define her. Donna was born to Olga and Homer Moorhead in North Platte on November 27, 1943. She grew up on a farm south of Hershey and attended Hershey Public School.&nbsp; Donna graduated as class Valedictorian in 1962, then attended Kearney State College. On August 21, 1964, Donna was united in marriage to Charles William "Bill" Arnett at the Hershey Methodist Church. They moved to California where Donna attended Sonoma State College. After graduating with honors in 1969, they returned to Nebraska to be near family. They settled in Wallace where Donna established and taught a K-12 Art Program for 35 years.&nbsp; Her students excelled in many local and statewide art contests and Donna received the outstanding Aviation Art Teacher Award and was honored with Art Educator of the Year in 2007. Donna was a dedicated and loving Christian, active in the Wallace Methodist Church and later First United Methodist Church in North Platte.&nbsp; She was also a member of P.E.O., N.P. China Painters, and a Charter Member of the Wallace Community Lions Club. She volunteered to help her community and church in any way possible. Wallace students remember Donna as a kind, gentle, caring, professional teacher who helped them develop their talents and self-esteem. Her husband, children and grandchildren, along with other family and friends, will miss her kind, giving, caring spirit.&nbsp; She will be remembered for her helping hand, respect of others, and her love of family, friends, her students, and the Class of 1962. Donna Jean Arnett (1943-2023)

Margo K. McCance, 74, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at the Lexington Regional Health Center surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on November 24, 1948 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Karl J. and Frieda R. (Shanholtz) Keesecker. Margo attended school in Cozad and earned her GED in Lexington.

Margo lived the majority of her life in the Lexington/Cozad area where she kept busy raising her children and working. Margo worked in the kitchen at the Cozad Care Center before she spent almost twenty-five years working at Monroe Automotive in Cozad. She also worked in Lexington at Del’s Country Store working the night shift with her son, Mike. Margo then worked at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington before retiring and taking care of her grandson, Kaleb.

Margo was a faithful member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Lexington. She was part of a Pro-Life Group in Lexington where they did lots of crocheting which she thoroughly enjoyed. She also always looked forward to the “Not so young Adults” church group where they would get together for barbeques. Margo loved spending time with her family, making Latch Hook Rugs, and playing board games with children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Lori (Steve) Erikson of Grand Island, Mike McCance of Lexington and Tammy (Ricky) Wescott of Kearney; six grandchildren, Julie Encinger, Nicholas Morse, Kevin McCance, Christian (Jessica) McCance, Holly Cook and Kaleb McCance; two great-grandchildren, Ayden Encinger and Lillie Encinger; her sisters, Karla (Larry) Eggin of Gering and Toni McGrath of Gering and a brother, Tim (Theresa) Keesecker of Lincoln; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides her parents, Margo was preceded in death by her son, David and granddaughter, Crystal Crowe.

A Celebration Of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Calvary Assembly of God Church with Pastor Rex Adams, officiating.

Sandra K. “Sandy” Meyer, 78 of Lexington passed away Sunday, December 18, 2022 at the Lexington Regional Health Center.

Sandy was born February 27, 1944 in Lexington, Nebraska to George and Sophia (Burr) Mazanec. She graduated from Lexington High school and then attended and graduated from the Kearney State Teachers College.

Sandy was united I marriage to Merle “Mike” Meyer on June 1, 1971 in Denver, Colorado. The couple moved to Ames, Iowa and later to Sacramento, California before returning to Lexington in 1976. Sandy had always wanted to be a teacher in Lexington and worked for the Lexington Public School system for over forty years. She also worked at Orschelins for many years.

Sandy loved teaching and raising her horses.

Survivors include one sister: Georgialee Rodgers, one brother: Terry Mazanec as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister: Dea Boersen and a brother: Larry Mazanec. A memorial service will be held Monday, February 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Sandra "Sandy" K Meyer (1944-2022)

&nbsp; Harry Keith Jaeger was born October 17, 1925, in Imperial, Nebraska, to Lola M. (Nedrow) and Samuel M. Jaeger. Keith grew up and attended grade school in Imperial and graduated from Chase County High School with the class of 1943. In September of 1944, Keith enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in the Asian Theater during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946. Keith was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals for his actions in combat. Keith returned home from his service in the Army, and married Marcheta Ann Pribbeno on April 4, 1946 in McDonald, KS. He continued farming and also became a U.S. rural mail carrier for many years. Keith was a member of the Imperial VFW Andrew Kinder Post #4688 and the Imperial Eagles Club. Keith enjoyed fishing and dancing. He especially loved spending time with his family. Keith passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home. He was 97 years of age. Harry "Keith" Jaeger (1925-2022)

Larry Hugh Wilson, 77, of Paxton, Nebraska passed away Friday, December 30, 2022 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE, with his daughters by his side.&nbsp; &nbsp;Larry was born December 30, 1945 to Manny and Irene (Krug) Wilson. Larry grew up in Benkelman, Nebraska and Bird City, Kansas. Larry graduated from Bird City High School with the class of 1964. He proudly joined the U.S. Navy on October 10th, 1966.

He married Penny Louise on May 26, 1972. They welcomed Taunya (Joel) Woodward and Tammy (Jory) Higgins into this world. Sadly on July 2, 1979 they lost Penny.

On March 26, 1988, Larry married Judy Kay and the family grew to include Doug (Lyn) Morrow, Henry (Val) Morrow, Richard (Alta) Lowe and Teresa (Walt Crofutt) Hehnke. Larry lost Judy in 2006.&nbsp;

Larry proudly worked for Union Pacific Railroad, retiring after over 30 years of service. He started out on a track gang and ended his career driving his beloved semi for them. Larry was able to travel all over the United States hauling equipment for the Union Pacific Railroad and providing for his family. Larry loved driving his semi in the Cheyenne Frontier Day’s parade, hauling the Union Pacific Band every year. Retirement didn’t slow him down, he continued to drive semi for several local farmers hauling grain. His favorite pastime was helping Brent at the Windy Gap recycle his cardboard. Personally, us girls think it was just an excuse to go visit with the people at the Gap.&nbsp; &nbsp;Larry loved going for long car rides listening to Willies Roadhouse, going to Kansas every year with Brian Nielsen to get a bull, and moving and branding cows at Brian and Jans. He also loved going and staying at Taunya and Tammy’s in Gothenburg and Kearney, and hanging out at the Windy Gap with his friends. Larry moved to Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg as his dementia became too much to live on his own in Paxton. While at Stone Hearth, he continued going for his rides with his daughters and especially loved it when the twins, Abbi and Andrea, would break him out to go get ice cream and drive around with their friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Larry is survived by his much loved daughters, the 3 T’s, Taunya (Joel) Woodward, Tammy (Jory) Higgins, and Teresa (Walt Crofutt) Hehnke, as well as sons Doug (Lyn) Morrow, Henry (Val) Morrow and Rick (Alta) Lowe. Larry had 19 grand children and 19 great grandchildren, as well as his sister Shela (Richard) Seals.&nbsp;

Larry was proceeded in death by his parents Irene and Manny Wilson, wife Penny (1979) and wife Judy (2006), several favorite Aunts and Uncles, as well as his favorite sister-in-law Nancy Chada.&nbsp; He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 3rd, 2022 at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala, NE from 1-6 p.m. Family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m.

Funeral Services are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 4th, 2023 at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel with Ron Jay officiating. Interment will follow services at Ogallala Cemetery. Military Honors by Paxton American Legion Post 303 and the United States Navy Funeral Honors Team.

Larry Hugh Wilson (1945-2022)

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Larry Kubik, age 84, of Cambridge, passed away at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital on December 28, 2022.&nbsp; He was born in Furnas County near Wilsonville, NE on February 19, 1938, to Francis and Irene (Witte) Kubik.&nbsp; Larry attended grade school in Hendley. The family moved to a farm near Cambridge, where he graduated from Cambridge High School in 1956.&nbsp; Larry served his country in the Nebraska Army National Guard for eight years.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; On August 13, 1957, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Harding at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The couple celebrated 65 years of marriage last August.&nbsp; To this union three children were born: Michael, Joyce, and Julie.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Larry farmed his adult life.&nbsp; He served on the Cambridge Coop Board of Directors, Twin Valley REA Board, and the Cambridge Rural Fire Department Board.&nbsp; Larry enjoyed playing town team softball and basketball into his 40’s.&nbsp; For the last 10 years he was a member of the Tri Valley Wellness Center, not missing many days.&nbsp; He and Marilyn enjoyed square dancing and card club.&nbsp; Larry could be found at the Heritage Plaza in Cambridge playing pinochle.&nbsp; Larry rarely missed any of his children or grandchildren’s school activities or sporting events.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Irene; brothers- in law, Joe Langan and Bob Phillips; and sister-in-law Carolyn and husband, Don Sayer.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Larry is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Cambridge; son, Michael and wife, Gretchen Kubik of Cambridge; two daughters, Joyce and husband, Dr. Lennie Deaver. of Cambridge and Julie and husband, Shawn Jones of Benkelman, NE; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Morris and wife, Cathy Kubik of Cambridge and Doug and wife, Cindy Kubik of Atkinson; two sisters, Phyllis Langan of Kearney, NE and Carole Watton of Derby, KS; sister-in-law, Judy Phillips of Cambridge; and brother-in-law, Donnie and wife, Anne Harding of Cambridge.

Larry Kubik (1938-2022)

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; On December 29, 2022, Shirley Louise Day McCullough passed away at Country House in Kearney, NE surrounded by her family. &nbsp;Visitation will be held at Govier Brother’s Mortuary on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, from 10 AM-6 PM with the family present from 4-6 PM. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Funeral services will be held at the Berean Church, Broken Bow on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at 1:00 PM with Pastor Tyce Jensen and Pastor Larry DeMoss officiating. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Shirley was born on October 23, 1925, at home in rural Miller, NE with Doctor Laughin from Elm Creek in attendance. She attended elementary school 7.5 miles Northeast of Miller at Grandview School, District 82, Buffalo County, where she developed a love of learning. &nbsp;She was characterized by boundless energy described by her mom with the ability to wear out two pairs of shoes while others wore out one.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;After graduating Miller High School, she attended summer school at Kearney State Teacher’s College and began her career in September 1943, at District 67, Upper Cat Creek in Custer County. Before her marriage, during the week, she boarded with patrons of the districts where she taught and made her way home for the weekend.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In the early days, Shirley carried all the water for the day to the building, started &amp; maintained the fire, and rode her horse cross country in order to start school on time, and snatched a shot gun from a nearby house to kill a rattlesnake that had invaded her school. She loved her students, not only diligently teaching them, but also playing games with them, and reading to them after noon recess.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In 1945, while teaching at Ash Grove, District 226, Shirley met Alfred E. McCullough while he was home on furlough from the navy armed guard. Her sisters teased her by singing, “Bell Bottom Trousers” to the couple.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; On June 8, 1947, Shirley and Alfred were united in marriage at the Emmanuel Missionary Church, in rural Buffalo County. A partnership began with Shirley teaching, Alfred renting farmland, and pouring resources into buying land for their farm. They labored side by side in the fields and with the cattle to meet expenses.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Building the farm coincided with building a family.&nbsp; From 1951-1954, three little girls were born. In the early years, many times Shirley sewed matching dresses for her trio. When weddings began, she sewed her dresses &amp; the entire bridesmaid party's dresses for 3 weddings.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The family attended many area horse shows and parades with Alfred &amp; Shirley teaming up with fellow members of Muddy Creek Saddle Club to compete in events. On many occasions, the prize money won from the competitions would buy groceries for the following week. In later years, Shirley acted as pit crew while Alfred entertained parade crowds as his horse returned a dropped hat to his hand.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Hunting pheasants along roadsides as she went to school and bagging a deer during season were inexpensive ways to bring food to the table. She raised chickens, planted gardens, canned the produce, and packed away a year’s supply of potatoes in the cellar.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Alfred and Shirley loved to travel, see sights, and visit relatives across the country. Twice, they drove to Canada, tying moose horns to the top of the Ford Escort for the return trip.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Many family members and neighbors received quilts and pillows lovingly made by Shirley. &nbsp;She skillfully crocheted doilies at night when the other work was done.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; While teaching, Shirley continued to take college classes in the summer and at night until she was able to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 1969.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In 1966, Shirley accepted a position at Anselmo-Merna Public School, moving on to Broken Bow where she retired from in 1987.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Shirley proudly provided a welcoming home for friends and family. From the year she was married until 2020, she hosted family &amp; friends to Easter dinner and the much-loved Easter egg hunt.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In our family, she was always the first to rise, the last to go to bed, the first to start a task, the last to quit. She instilled in her progeny a love of God, country, and a loyalty and service to family and friends. Right was right and wrong had consequences. We never wanted to disappoint her; we wanted to make her proud. She was the backbone of our family and her passing leaves a void we struggle to fill.

&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Shirley was proceeded in death by her husband, Alfred E. McCullough; father, Harold R. Day; mother, Mabel (Keyser) Day; brothers: Jack and Norman Day; sister: Jeanne Stevens.

He continued to work as a contractor with the district until his passing. Leonard was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg.&nbsp; He enjoyed golf, bowling, working, and fixing anything that didn't work just right.&nbsp; Leonard loved traveling to watch his granddaughter dance, and grandsons play baseball, golf, and lacrosse.

Linda Dormann, 73, of Oshkosh, passed away Thursday morning, December 29, 2022 at her home.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Oshkosh with Pastor Scotty Ray officiating.&nbsp; Services will conclude at the church.

Per Linda's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Linda Dormann was born on April 27, 1949 to Albert and Helen Bentley. After a courageous battle with both illness and cancer, she left this world and travelled to her final resting place just as snow began to fall and the sun rose, surrounded by family on December 29, 2022.

She was born in Bridgeport, Nebraska and lived in Lisco, Nebraska until 1988. During that time, Linda attended school in Oshkosh, Nebraska and graduated with a high school diploma. She also underwent schooling to become a stewardess shortly thereafter. She acquired a license to be a stewardess, but life did not allow her to see the world in the way she had originally intended. She never dwelled on her past but rather looked for more opportunities for the best possible experiences.&nbsp;

Linda was united in marriage with Thomas Cooper in 1968. This union was blessed with four children: Greggory, Dagny, Nathan, and Nickola. She concluded her marriage to Thomas in 1983.

Linda was a hardworking woman who dedicated her life to being a mother, friend, and neighbor. Her door was always open. Nothing made her happier than to sit down and share stories as well as get filled in on all the tribulations or triumphs that life brought her friends, family, and neighbors. Linda was strong, caring, understanding, smart, courteous, just a hair stubborn, and above all else, humble.&nbsp; She believed in people, creating a home where everyone could be welcomed, and always gave everything she could give.

Linda later became married to Ron Dormann in 1987. She moved to Oshkosh, Nebraska in 1988 and lived out the remainder of her life on the Dormann ranch.&nbsp; She spent most of her life working and being a caretaker for her friends and family. Linda had as many jobs as she could manage to provide for those she cared for. She also spent a good amount of her time helping others get their own work done. Her marriage to Ron lasted until 2003 when she was preceded in death by her husband.

Linda had one sister and four brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Helen Bentley, and her brothers Duane and Rod Bentley.&nbsp; She is survived by Don (Peggy) Bentley, Diana Fetters, and Fred (Barbara) Bentley. Linda is survived by her four children: Greggory (Amy) Cooper, Dagny (Dirk) Bogaard, Nathan (Cherry) Cooper, Nickola (Jennifer) Cooper, and her step-children Christy Amen, Kerri Gortemaker, Chad Dormann, and families.&nbsp; She was a proud grandmother of ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren who all survive her. Her grandchildren are Veronica (Caleb) Harris, Martha (Henry) Fowler, Cora Cooper, Luke Bogaard, Max Cooper, Chance Cooper, Aaron Cooper, Sydney Cooper, Sunnie Cooper, and Sugar Cooper. Her two great grandchildren belong to Veronica and Caleb Harris, their names are: Validiana Harris and Virgil Harris.

Shirley Larson, 90, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born on July 2, 1932 in Omaha, NE the daughter of Clarence Albert and Pearle Minerva Josephine (Johnson) Holsten.&nbsp; She graduated from Central high school in Omaha, NE and from the Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse.&nbsp; She met and married the love of her life, Dr. Dwight Larson, in Omaha on December 12, 1953, and together they had three daughters: Leanne, Jane, and Sandra.&nbsp; She worked alongside her husband Dwight in his medical practice as his surgical and obstetrics nurse for many years.&nbsp; Shirley was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte.&nbsp; She was a past president and senior emeritus of the Chamber Hostesses, 50-year member and past president of the Chapter AK PEO, 30-year member and past board member of Heartland Singers, and a past president of the Monday Musical.&nbsp; She was also active in the following organizations over the years, Rainbow Girls, New Beginnings, Lincoln County Medical Alliance, Aquacise group Water Lilies, and the Red Hat Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; niece, Stacy Hutson; and nephew, Jim Plate.

Those left to celebrate her memory are her husband of 69 years, Dr. Dwight Larson; daughters, Leanne (Bruce) Elder of Kearney, Jane (David) Kwiatkowski of Kearney, and Sandra (Dirk) Gray of McCook; grandchildren, Chad (Ashley) Elder, Sarah Polter, Jared Polter, Kade Gray, and Joel Gray; great-granddaughter, Emma Elder; brother, Robert “Bob” (Mary) Holsten of Carmel, Indiana; nieces, Becky Plate, Sara Clark, and Alison (Rick) Bond; nephew, Jeff (Donna) Holsten; along with other extended family and friends.

construction with his grandfather at Sandoval Concrete and installing 
sprinkler systems with his uncles in Georgia. Chris loved to spend time 
with his family, friends; listening to music, having a good time, and 
making people laugh. He had a huge heart, a contagious laugh, and was a 
welcoming person. His family loved him dearly and he will be deeply 
missed. 
He is survived by his Sons-Damian and Xzavyer Trejo; Parents-Norma and 
Crescenciano Trejo; Sisters-Irene Velazco of Kenosha, WI, Christina

Crescenciano 'Chris' Trejo Jr. (1990 - 2022)

Mary Agnes Patterson Thornburg, age 84 of North Platte, Nebraska passed away December 29, 2022 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Mary Agnes was born May 7, 1938 and was the 5th child of Louis and Agnes Greenwood Cooper. She graduated 8th grade from Echo District 24 County school. She attended St. Patrick’s High School graduating in 1956.

She married Earl Smith Jr. June 7, 1957, and the couple had 4 children, Debra Agnes, Earl John III, Christopher James, and Jerald Louis. They divorced about five years later and Mary Agnes moved back to North Platte, NE from Lincoln, NE. About a year later the family moved to Cozad, NE.

In Cozad she went to work at Monroe Auto Equipment. During this time, she met the love of her life, Jim Thornburg. They married and lived in various locations throughout their marriage due to Jim’s job as an electrical contractor and Mary Agnes found employment as needed. Jim suddenly became ill and died September 25, 1990.

She married Dale Patterson in 1999 and he passed away October 2001. After Dale’s passing, Mary was active in the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and enjoyed many years as president.

She enjoyed being a member of a lip sync group “The Misfits” sponsored by the Eagles. She also enjoyed reading, crosswords, and being with family.

Mary Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Earl Jr, Jim, and Dale; sister, Jeanne Anne; brothers, Ralph and Keith; sisters-in-law, Beulah, Pye, and Cindy; and brother-in-law, Bernie.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with the Reverend Jon Sorenson as celebrant. Burial will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Visitation will be noon – 5:00 p.m. at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

 </figure>Mary Agnes Patterson Thornburg, age 84 of North Platte, Nebraska passed away December 29, 2022 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.Mary Agnes was born May 7, 1938 and was the 5th child of Louis and Agnes Greenwood Cooper. She graduated 8th grade from Echo District 24 County school. She attended St. Patrick’s High School graduating in 1956.She married Earl Smith Jr. June 7, 1957, and the couple had 4 children, Debra Agnes, Earl John III, Christopher James, and Jerald Louis. They divorced about five years later and Mary Agnes moved back to North Platte, NE from Lincoln, NE. About a year later the family moved to Cozad, NE.In Cozad she went to work at Monroe Auto Equipment. During this time, she met the love of her life, Jim Thornburg. They married and lived in various locations throughout their marriage due to Jim’s job as an electrical contractor and Mary Agnes found employment as needed. Jim suddenly became ill and died September 25, 1990.She married Dale Patterson in 1999 and he passed away October 2001. After Dale’s passing, Mary was active in the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and enjoyed many years as president.She enjoyed being a member of a lip sync group “The Misfits” sponsored by the Eagles. She also enjoyed reading, crosswords, and being with family.Mary Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Earl Jr, Jim, and Dale; sister, Jeanne Anne; brothers, Ralph and Keith; sisters-in-law, Beulah, Pye, and Cindy; and brother-in-law, Bernie.Mary Agnes leaves to celebrate her life Debra (Dave) Meter of Lincoln, John (Jeanne) Smith of Omaha, Jim (Terri) Smith of Texas, and Jerry (Laurie) Smith of Oregon; 12 grandchildren, Rachel (Kevin) Klahn, Janice (Scott) Burman, Stuart (Sara) Smith, Christina Smith, Taylor (Cassie) Smith, Tara Smith, Gabrielle (Parker) Niles, Tanner Smith, Spencer Smith, Lauren “Ryan” Meter, Alaina Meter, and Amanda Smith; and 12 great grandchildren.Memorials have been established in Mary’s honor and kindly suggested to the family.
